The 10 Most-Read Eater Stories This Year | Eater

"A national big‑box retailer where a limited‑edition Stanley x Starbucks tumbler sparked chaotic rushes of customers; the coverage described how the product "caused rushes of customers to trample each other" and dug into why people go so crazy over Stanley cups. The frenzy was treated as a cultural moment — with gawking interest in the fervor around Stanley cups — and pop culture amplified it as Saturday Night Live embraced "the big dumb cup." - Monica Burton

Google
Great store. Always has lines open and helpful staff.

Yelp
Clean and not too busy, grocery and shelves had a few selections that were out of stock. Outside, pickup area with a tent for the folks waiting in the heat, so that's good. Inside was a Starbucks, returns upfront, and then the standard cashier spots. They had a good number of self-service stations active but full-service only had two lanes open at the time.

Yelp
I was at Target Sterling and I need help! Very nice lady was working August 25,2025. Her name was Vicelva Benita helped me excellent. I am very appreciate of her and store management. Shirin Shajiee

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to stop by. This was my first visit to this store, so I was eager to see what they had available. The general selection was plentiful and I was surprised to see how many dvf (Diane von Furstenberg) for Target items were still in stock. I grabbed a few things, of course. As time progressed, the customers poured in and were rowdy...so that's always my cue to get out of the way. Will definitely return the next time I'm in that neck of the woods. __ I thrift. @DCthriftish I eat. @f.hux

Yelp
Only self checkout open line all the way to cosmetics and no manager in sight. When I asked for a manager her response was what was it regarding, no I'm dealing with something be there shortly. The lack of care this store shows for customers is astounding!

Yelp
Oh Target... GIRL!! For the past month, your shoe section has been looking like a tornado went through it!! How am I suppose to enjoy my weekly Target fix when it looks like this!

Yelp
Terrible customer service and the manager is rude to the employees Take your time to train your employees instead of talking to them like they are trash

Yelp
Unbelievably disappointed in this Dulles and I thought this one would be considered the "nice" one!! The customer service was absolutely lacking. This review is strictly about the team members. Came in with my children (ages 2 & 4 months) for a new vacuum and to buy some PJs I saw online for my daughter. Grab the PJs (EXACTLY the ones in the ad) and head for the vacuums. The boxes are completely out of order. I'm not sure if they were restocking and left or if other customers made the mess in a search but the little area was wildly messy. I asked a team member for assistance in finding the one I was interested in. Kindly, the team member searches on his scanner and sees there are 5 listed on the floor but none we can find. We advises that I head to customer service and get one shipped to the store for free. I say great. I head to customer service and their are 3 young girls there. Two of them are assisting other and a 3rd is organizing merch. When 1 of the 2 becomes available she walks over to the third and starts giggling and gossiping about something. And stand for a little longer until my 2 year old says hello for attention. She returns to the register and calls for us to come. We head over and I tell her the situation. she tells me she cannot help me with online orders. I said it's something you're out of stock in but I wanted it ship to store... She tells me to " Figure it out myself" because they don't do ship to store!!!! Figure it out myself? She said yeah, you can download the app or go on their website but they aren't there to make orders for us. She repeats, figure it out yourself. I had a lot I wanted to say to her but frustrated, I walked away. I decide I was done shopping and head to the register to pay for the PJs. The team member at the register seemed new because she was frazzled with any question asked to her. I place my items in the belt. The PJs were ringing up as 11.99 but I show her online it says 5.99. she said oh. Then continued scanning my items. I asked if she was gonna change the price she said b"do you want me to take them off so you can order them online?" What? I just said can't you just changed the price,? She said I don't think I can. So I requested she call a manager. Juan comes, presumably the front end manager. I explain the situation and he asks ,"do you have any proof its a different price online?" I show him on my phone. He ROLLS HIS EYES and IN FRONT OF ME tells the cashier "she probably didn't even get the right ones" as if I wasn't standing there. Also, ITS THE EXACT SAME AS THE PHOTO. He begins to compare barcode and begrudgingly, says, I'll change it JUST THIS ONCE. When did Target stop price matching especially from their own website? If Juan was a manager, I understand why the other front employees lack professionalism and manners. Reston location has never given me an issue. Despite convenience, I don't think I'll return to Dulles location.

Yelp
The convenience factor (being a few miles from my home) keep me coming here along with using my target card. I find items easy to find in certain sections (the health/bathroom/grooming) more organized than others (home improvement/kitchen). Also for fragrances, you'll need to find someone who has the key to open it. Unfortunately not all the employees have them so you may be waiting around for someone who does. The grocery section is a nice addition but could be more expansive. But with Wegmans nearby, you can't gripe too much unless you're too lazy to go across the street. I recommend going there for groceries instead of here due to pricing and selection.

Yelp
This is my first time ordering online and picking up in store. It was a very effortless experience. We went to the customer service desk and they were able to locate our order right away. She didn't need to scan my information, she was able to find it with my name. They were able to get our order to us in no time. I had to use their restroom which was very clean and well-stocked. By the time I got out, they had our stuff ready to go. It's a newly renovated store- they had everything very organized and they had all the holiday decorations out. Although, it's not a very big store, they carry pretty much anything you need to get at the store which I think makes shopping much easier. It made the experience quite nice. Since we were pretty much in and out, we got a couple of drinks at Starbucks which was located right as you enter the building.

Yelp
I love target but I hate this Dulles store. Every time I order a pickup it takes forever and later once you are outside the store you can wait for another 10-15m. Waste of time. I would rather go to sterling or Leesburg but sometimes I get stuck with this one if they are out of stock. I am always willing to drive further just to get better response time and service.

Yelp
TIP: MAKE SURE A WORKER IS AT SELF CHECK OUT This might be just me and this one incident... but one of the worst target I've been to. People go to self check out because they tend to want things done quickly, far from it in this case. I only had like 6 items so thought okay 5-10 minutes at most! Had an issue with drinks and was waiting for a worker to resolve it. There should be ONE worker attending the self checkout but nope. Waited and waited... And now there's 3 shelf check outs that needed help with their blinking lights and the machine reassuring me someone was coming... pshh! Then I was over it and just went to ask someone that seem to be the manager and told her people need help at self check out. She told me "I'm with this person right now!" and gave me the hand signaling stop - umm okay. Also, I set a timer on my phone to see how long it took for someone to come and it was 11 minutes (probably more). People were looking at me asking if someone was coming at this point since I kept coming back and forth. All I could say that "They said they sent someone". Finally my knight in a red polo shirt came and enter their store code stuff and took him 2 minutes fix our problems.

Yelp
I usually go to the Leesburg location. After today I know why. Today I came with my son because he wanted a Pizza Hut pizza. Nope, the cafe is closed. No pizza, No popcorn, No slushees. Fine, we had birthday money to use, So we went searching for a Nerf Gun that he has been wanting. While strolling around I noticed that this store is TRASHED. I heard another couple comment that the toy section looked like a yard sale. Actually, I've been to yard sales that were more organized than this store. I love target, I really do, but a clean, organized and very well stocked Walmart is about a mile away. If given the choice-I'll go to Walmart any day over this target location.

Yelp
The Dulles target is an okay store, but I do think it could use some improvement. I come here very consistently, almost daily, because I work across the street. The store is not clean, not well stocked, but there's always an employee around that's more than happy to help out with anything you may need. Most of the time, there's no issues, and I'm able to find what came in for, no questions asked. Sometimes I walk out with some other goodies too! The gentleman who works at the in-store Starbucks always has a smile on his face and is wonderful to work with. He always is happy to help! Like I mentioned before, this is a decent Target location, but there are a few errors that if I believe, are fixed, would make this location truly exceptional! A lot of times, the candy shelves up front are not consistently rotated and checked for expired food. There's been a few occasions where I've bought some candy (Reese's Cups and Reese's Sticks, to be specific) and the date reads EXP 09/19 and we're in January 2020 now. What is even more unacceptable, and frankly, blows my mind, is this location thinks it is perfectly acceptable (which it is NOT) to place expired merchandise on clearance. In all the stores I've worked in, expired food and other merchandise either gets disposed of in an appropriate manner, or is returned to the vendor, for partial credit, no exceptions. Target advertises a "price match guarantee". They state, if you find a lower price at a competitor, bring in the ad, and we'll match the price. Simple, no hassles. I've done this on multiple occasions. Usually I have no problems. About a week ago, I went to purchase a flashlight to keep in the glovebox of my truck, in case I need some extra light or have an emergency. I found an Energizer Industrial Hard Case flashlight at Target, and really liked the design and durability. I saw it was $15 and I thought, great deal! I pulled one off the shelf, and headed up to checkout. Upon arrival to the self-checkout counter, I politely asked the gentleman who was assisting customers at the self checkout counter, if I could have a price match with Amazon. I found the same exact model of flashlight on Amazon, for only $10. I know $5 isn't a lot, but I try to save money where I can, I'm a 20 year old college student on a budget. When asked for a price match, The gentleman responded with: "I don't have time to go get a manager to price match that for you, go to the other Sterling Target, and they can do it. I don't have time." So let me get this straight. You want me, to go fifteen minutes to another store, because you are too lazy to do your job? I thought that was ridiculous. If you can't stop what you're doing (which was nothing, just on his phone), for just a minute, and help with a simple task, why are you working here? So, off to Sterling Target I go. I walked right in, the woman at the customer service desk happily refunded the difference between Target and Amazon and apologized for the poor experience at the Dulles Target location. At this point, I'd happily drive the extra 15 minutes out of my way to get better customer service. To close, Dulles Target excels in some areas and is lacking in others. If they'd correct their issues, Dulles Target would earn an A in my book.

Yelp
Store is trashed. Boxes everywhere. It looka like toys r us before it closed! Had to look through boxes to find product. Most of the selves were empty or disorganized! Never seen it like this. I think they are closing. 4th time... went to store to find a product that the internet says they have but they dont! They really need new management. 4th time a charm.. done with this store

Yelp
We've been to this location a few times. Their restrooms aren't the cleanest. They have a Starbucks in this location. Their clearance racks and dollar spot are always organized and easy to navigate. We've always received excellent customer service!

Hali P.

Yelp
I LOVE Target, but NOT this Target. When I'm trying to shop around and enjoy my morning with a coffee and a podcast playing, the AT&T employees walk through the store trying to get you to sign up for their "amazing deals". If I wanted to sign up for AT&T, I would ;) but I DO NOT. Why are you pestering me about my phone plan when I'm shopping for $3 plush elves in the dollar section? When you politely try to say "no thanks, I'm not interested today," they will try and bargain with you to sign up for a phone plan. It's so weird and kind of rude and ruins the Target experience.

Yelp
Worst customer service ever. Dude was definitely high and couldn't care less. I know working customer care at Target isn't the best job, but come on dude. Have a little pride. I shop at Target because they are consistent (been to several across the US) and take returns. Targets are always clean and can usually find a good deal. Don't forget to price shop!

Yelp
Sunday before back to school and there were lots of customers but no waits in line. That is impressive. Its rare I go for a sale and the items not in stock so that too is awesome. Today was Harry's shaver and blades at a great price I can't even get on Harry's website!! IN and out very quickly and always plenty of parking. Now that Gloucester Parkway is open off of Loudoun Parkway, I avoid lights and traffic. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Sheila J.

Yelp
Bad experience here. Slow lines, Rude managers, employees who don't care about their job, overall horrible experience. Items that appear in stock online, are never in stock at the store. I came here once, and I will not be coming again. Please please please, shop elsewhere.

Yelp
Clean, hard working people who were very helpful. I was able to get a variety of things, including groceries, at a fair price and very efficiently. Love this store!

Yelp
I am generally a big fan of Target. Today's experience was more than annoying. However, I will say that it is annoying that they run a promo on Target.com but will not honor it in store. Today I tried to purchase two pairs of boots for my kids and while shopping I looked at Target.com to find out they had boots for buy 1 get one 50% off. So I go to the register and they did not ring up buy 1 get 1 50% so I show her the Target.com online price and they said they don't honor percentage promos. She did tell me I could order online and do the in store pick up and they honor the price that way. So I go home and tried, but one pair I was trying to buy was "limited availability" and wouldn't allow me to purchase. Annoying since I was in the store and I knew that they had the boots in my daughter's size. I simply don't understand why they don't match their own online promos.

Yelp
The customer service crew is always so helpful and sweet. My favorite target for sure!
google avatar

Christine T.

Yelp
I don't go to this Target as often as its other store in Sterling, mostly because I'm not often out that way and if I am I'm there to go to Wegmans. I have to say although this one seems to be smaller than its sister store on the other side of town it still has a good selection. They also seem to have more cashiers at the check out generally compared to the other store. This store also has a few self-check out lanes which I've used a few times and they are actually pretty user friendly. The staff overall is super nice too. Which was a much better experience as compared to the other Sterling store a few weeks ago.
google avatar

Nick B.

Yelp
Have things gone down hill since all of these other reviews were posted? It looks like it. As far as the layout of the store is concerned, its your standard Target. The parking lot isn't too bad, and this is in a pretty convenient location with Wegmans nearby. However, checkout was a serious hot mess here. It's enough for me to say, I'm not going to even try this location again.

Enie M.

Yelp
I always always end up buying more than I go in the store for! So yes, control, control yorself my dear soul!! But well, this store happens to meet all my basic human needs, like clothing for kids and I, shoes, jewellery (the basic ones) and of course grocery stuff :-) The staff is helpful almost always, sometimes newbies are training so stuff happens, but overall great store to meet your immediate needs. Not to forget, the shop online and pick up in store is great! The only issue I sometimes face is not finding shelves filled enough, like now for back to school.

Dom A.

Yelp
Just purchased half-and-half with an expiration date of "Sep 07"... and it's spoiled and chunky. Purchased at 9:45pm. Store closes at 10pm. Called the store at 9:57pm and it took 3 minutes to get through to the operator. She answers the phone, "Hello?" When I explain my problem, her response is, "can you call back in the morning 'cause we're closed." ...you've got to be kidding me...
google avatar

Wai T.

Yelp
This target store just opening in the last months, and is big and clean. They also seem to carry a wider selection of women clothing. I enjoying coming here to have a stride with my baby. She has a thrill every time.
google avatar

Anson P.

Yelp
I had to run in and grab a can of bug spray. However, what made my day was the group of kids who were sulking with looks of depression on their faces. Now that can only mean one thing. It's back to school time. Thoughts immediately turn to the Staples commercial with the song playing in the background, "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year..." I hear maniacal laughter and see a finger pointing at the kids...oh wait, that's me pointing and laughing. That's what you boogers get for taking over the movie theaters, the mall, and the amusement parks. Muahahahahahaha. Anyway, this Target has pretty much everything you could need in one location. Plenty of parking, it's clean, and none of those annoying receipt checkers. They also have a Starbucks if that floats your boat. More importantly, there's a Wegmans across the street.
google avatar

Vishal S.

Yelp
This is a super big Target (that I like), but service is A-OK at best. Also most employees had no clue on where stuff is - which is a shocker since employees at other Targets are really good with helping me around!
google avatar

Ruth C.

Yelp
Two and a half stars. Excessive amount of parking. I've seen other Targets better staffed and better inventoried. The jewelry section looked like a herd of shoplifters had come through: empty earring sheets, ripped bracelet sheets. Love the dollar bins at the front of the store and in the travel section by the pharmacy, for all my bobby pin and hand sanitizer needs. Indifferent about the brand organization of the beauty department; having to walk two aisles to compare products gets to be a pain. Only some of the flat irons were chained out for handling, but I just couldn't resist the Remington on sale. Shoe section carried a boring selection and could have been better labeled. In general, signs could be posted in more visible, helpful places.

George R.

Yelp
I like this store. Clean, easy returns, good variety of things. I like their electronics section, furniture section and clothing section. The food section is ok too. Food section is about medium sized, not like a super store, not like Walmart, but just enough so u don't get overwhelmed. Would be nice if they had something different like a pet section with live fish and animals, but, u can't have it all I guess. Then again, they do have a Starbucks and a hotdog stand, that's pretty amazing and nice to be able to get a snack without having to leave the store.
google avatar

Sean P.

Yelp
It's Target. Big box store, big red bulls-eye. The staff at this location have always been top notch and friendly. Unlike certain rivals, the shelves are always stocked, well organized and there's a great selection to choose from. It's clean, vibrant and well lit.
google avatar

Colleen M.

Yelp
A solid Target. There are rarely long lines at the registers, and it's fairly well stocked. (Although I was a bit annoyed they had ZERO in the way of Chanukah decorations, supplies, wrapping paper, etc. ZERO.) The store is clean and the staff is usually helpful. You know how when you go to, like, Home Depot and ask an employee "Where can I find X?" and they look at you like you just asked them to recite the quadratic equation? Well, at this Target, most of the time, they just rattle off the exact aisle location of what you need. That's awesome. The parking lot is, yes, sort of a free for all. But I've survived Pentagon City Costco on a Saturday afternoon. Bring it on, suburbia!
google avatar

Matt H.

Yelp
The Target is nice, clean, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the restrooms are fairly clean. Traffic getting out of this area isn't the best from Pacific Blvd to Waxpool. That's why I really don't go to this location more often.

Robert C.

Yelp
Targets are generally very good. However, just as other national retailers in our area. the Sterling Dulles area has seen a deterioration of store maintenance, limited parking, more RUDE customers than ever. Got the time...HEAD out to LEESBURG. Far more parking, less customer traffic, and a far more CIVILIZED customer. I find it worth the drive from the Herndon Reston area. Especially on a weekend. AVOID the Costco-Target area of route 7 .
google avatar

M W.

Yelp
The target itself is a pretty good one. Nice parking lot, good selection, clean store. However... it loses stars for the restrooms. NASTYYYY!!!! Flies landing on you, moldy floors, broken doors on the stalls, muck all over the walls and stalls... YUCK!!!! NEVER pee here. Might as well be an out house.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
Very clean Target and they are super fast at the registers. Not a fan of getting out of this parking lot on the weekends though.
google avatar

M B.

Yelp
This Target location is okay...it's the closest to my home, but it's definitely not the best in the area. I have found that the shelves at this store are not very well stocked. I will go there needing cosmetics or shampoo or something, and sometimes I'll walk out without what I need. So I would like to warn everyone that this could happen. I'm not sure if they are understaffed or maybe they don't have their priorities straight. But it would be nice to be able to come there confident that I didn't have to go elsewhere to find something. It's nice to have this location though instead of having to drive to Leesburg or Sterling...or...Walmart (ew). The good thing about this store is that you usually don't have to wait in long lines, as it is never really over crowded. It's a clean store with nice people working there, they just need to do a better job making sure the shelves and racks are full. Also, the clothing and shoes sections always look like they could use some attention.
google avatar

Andrea O.

Yelp
Closest Target to where I currently reside. They are really pushing impulse buying of bananas and I can't decide if that's good or bad. Their dollar spot is almost always full of the stuff I don't want - this means it's not the stuff on instagram that I wish I could find. I guess I could go to another Target but that's not the point. As far as the clearance end caps? I really don't know. I guess other people beat me to getting the good stuff. Maybe I need to just cave and go to another Target already.

Darryl G.

Yelp
Unbelievable amount of empty shelves in the aisles. Hard to believe that this is the"newer Target" in the area, as it usually seems like a store going out of business.

Jen S.

Yelp
I had a really great experience at this store thanks to Karina, Robert, Jesse, and Jonathan. I left a shirt that I purchased at the store earlier today, and each member took the time to help me try to find it when I returned to the store. This is the best customer service experience I've had at any Target location, and I am so grateful and very impressed that each member really took the time to try help me. I felt satisfied that each team member tried to help me the best that they could. Each member was patient, understanding, and offered solutions. Customer service is not always an easy job and is oftentimes thankless, so I just want to take a moment to recognize these individuals. Thanks again for trying your best to help me.

Yelp
So unhappy. I browsed online early this morning for a special toy. Instead of order it online I decided to go and pick it up. I wanted special color for my son so I had to drive far from home to get the color he wanted.. in the morning traffic. So when I came into the store, it was priced 34.99 or something - I was surprised and scanned it with my phone.. the price came out 16.49 just like at home.. so I was quite happy and went to the register.. but no.. it was not possible to get the price matched because Target and Target online are totally different company.. but she could give it to me for 25.69. Price-match what ?.. It´s so easy for them just to raise the shelf price vs cheap online. I have really lost my trust in Target. It´s always like that.
google avatar

Noelia L.

Yelp
The people are very rude here I asked one employee there for a small size in something and she responded by snapping at me and saying what they have is all on the floor and when I asked if she could check the back she said no
google avatar

Cameron H.

Yelp
Pretty cool store with above average customer service. The starbucks inside also is very good!
google avatar

Pamela V.

Yelp
Dangerously addicting! Love the clothing options for women.. And the shoes..! Lines are also never long.

f s.

Yelp
I have been shopping at this store since they opened. Spending $1000 of dollars yearly. The guest service (or the return desk) is extremely experienced and rude. They are happy and nice when you buy and when you return a defective item, they are rude and ask you to mail it to manufacturer. Next time I will be buying my items online directly from manufacturers and if in case something dose not work out and go back to them. Unbelievable

Yeah R.

Yelp
So I went to Starbucks at target to get one of the limited edition drinks. It was the last day it was available. The barista was clearly rushing g through when making the drink. She gave me the drink with straws already place into the drink. When I took a sip, there was a foul taste but slowly went away as I drank the rest. When I got to the end of the drink the only thing left to drink was the whip cream. I used the straw as a spoon and tasted the whip cream. The taste was awful. Turns out whatever milk was used to make the whip cream was expired!! :((((((

Yelp
Seemed like a typical Target to me, a little bigger than some of the other ones I've been to so you know it will have more things in stock than the smaller ones. Really no complaints except that the parking area seemed a little congested.
google avatar

M D.

Yelp
Decent sized Target that have a Starbucks cafe inside. Fairly clean and usually well staffed with friendly, helpful people. The Starbucks staff is usually friendly and very good but, sometimes the happy faces aren't here, nevertheless they usually attempt to stay upbeat! As far as inventory, it's on par as any other location minus the grocery section.
