At Tartine's Santa Monica outpost, formerly a mortuary, enjoy the Bay Area's renowned pastries, delicious sandwiches, and beautifully crafted brunches in a cozy, sunlit garden setting.
"We were pleasantly surprised by the delicate, flavorful, browned-but-not-burnt croissants from this bakery chain from San Francisco, though maybe we shouldn’t have been. Tartine is a household name in the Bay Area (and its six LA locations) for a reason. Their plain croissants have several attributes we enjoy—caramelized bottoms, buttery layers that somehow taste warm even when they’re not, and flaky shards that get all over your shirt—but if you’re open to a savory breakfast, the one filled with ham and gruyere is on another level." - sylvio martins, garrett snyder, brant cox
" Preorders for Thanksgiving pies are now live at all Tartine locations, and according to their website, quantities are limited (so place your order ASAP). The current selection includes a classic pumpkin pie, an apple pie with a dutch crumb topping, and a chocolate rye pecan tart. Orders are available for pick-up starting November 22nd. " - sylvio martins
"The first word that comes to mind, when stepping into Tartine's Santa Monica location, will probably be "grand." It's a sprawling estate with soaring arched ceilings, an idyllic lawn to lounge on, and European architecture. It was once a funeral home. We're obligated by law to tell you that. But it's also home to fantastic sourdough breads (some of the best in the city), pastries, and a turkey club with crispy chicken skin, avocado, pickle mayo. It’s crunchy, creamy lunchtime bliss." - brant cox, kat hong, arden shore, nikko duren
"The Santa Monica outpost of SF’s excellent Tartine bakery somehow managed to open in the middle of the quarantine. And (unique among their LA locations) they’ve got a burger on the menu. It’s served with house-made American cheese, and lacto-fermented pickles, on (maybe the best part, considering how good this bakery is) a house-made yam bun. Pick-up in-store, or delivery via apps." - brett keating
"Truth be told, it’s a gutsy move to open a restaurant during quarantine. But Tartine, the famous Bay Area spot known for their house-baked loaves, did exactly that in Santa Monica in March. And if you’ve consistently failed at getting your sourdough to rise, Tartine will make you feel better - because as soon as you taste their tremendous toasted sesame loaf, you’ll know that you never could have made anything this good, anyway. They’ve also got pastries and cookies, too, if you want something sweeter. Pick-up or delivery via apps 8am-3pm Mondays and Wednesdays (8am-4pm Thursday-Sunday)." - brett keating
