24 Sweet Tooth–Satisfying Bakeries in Denver | Eater Denver

"Strudel, kringles, and waffle cookies count among the key specialties of this quaint little Lakewood longtimer — along, of course, with light and flaky danish filled with jam and custard (try the apricot). But the list goes on, encompassing cinnamon rolls and twists, bear claws, coffee cake, and much more." - Eater Staff

This place is a hidden Gem! The bakery is top teir and finding out that it supports it's community is such a blessing. The bred is amazing! Pastries and baked goods are incredible! And the coffee is perfect! Don't waste your time wondering is you should come in or not... just come and enjoy the confectionery.

Google
Always a great experience! Ordering the pastry online was easy and efficient. Picking up was more difficult...in that there were dozens of beautiful items begging to be admired and eaten!

Google
This is such a cute bakery that is filled with so many amazing delights. The bakery cases are full of "ooo, what is that" pastries and "we gotta get one of those" cookies. Everything we decided on was amazing (giant coconut macaroon, apricot danish, massive raspberry cream puff, French waffle, blueberry mini pie). And there were loads of temptations that we left for our next visit. Plus, we got the chance to see a very impressive and delectable Princess Tart Cake that was being picked up by another customer (I believe this cake needs to be ordered 24+ hours in advance).

Fantastic pastries and baked goods. It's packed on the weekend mornings for good reason

A hidden Gem. Great baked goods and beautiful custom cakes. The French bread is also delicious.

I got a traditional blueberry pie from this bakery today, and it was amazing. The crust was very good, toasty, and with sugar sprinkled on top. So yummy. I've only eaten pie a few times in my life, and pumpkin was the most tolerable one. I got the blueberry pie for a co-worker's B-day celebration and this was the clear winner out of the two pies I got from two different bakeries. and the price was only $18! I put in the order the night before and it was ready even before the scheduled pick up time the next morning. Incredible! Did not disappoint! I got cream puffs for myself and those were fluffy and good too.

Google
Wish they had wifi like a coffee shop, but this place is incredible. Upbeat music and friendly employees that seemed happy to be there. The sesame twists and cinnamon strips were delicious and I can't wait to come back and try more. This is a high quality bakery that's not pretentious.

Google
Just hands down amazing. Can't go wrong with any of the pastry and bread selections. They added the patio to enjoy the outdoors. Does not disappoint one bit. Also, they are really quick and hard working! Pastry making and customer service skills are top notch 👌

Yelp
My friend Steve turned me on to this place. The line was long but went quickly. The lady in front of me spent over $160.00. Everything was insanely delicious!

Yelp
I had stopped by a few weeks ago, and there was a line forming before they opened. I was greeted by the staff who were incredibly nice! Plenty of seating outside and inside, restroom conveniently located in the corner of the cafe. I travel a lot for work and this was requested. Honestly the best sweets I have ever had in my whole life! Highly recommend! 10/10, wish I got a picture, but next time I will!

Yelp
Please be conscientious it is the Holidays! The Taste of Denmark is very special and SUPER BUSY, laugh off these type of moments. This past week, I had to order $52.00 for my car's mechanics, Midas on Broadway, and one gentleman has 3 little girls. I ordered for the entire group of men and especially for his family some Rum Balls (yummy mouse chocolate) plus some petite cheesecake. "I do not approve of buying Rum Balls for children" was a retort I heard. Laugh this moment off Please. Taste of Denmark is super super busy, sometimes employees are overworked and say things we must not pay attention to!! This place is awesome Please note! Friday through Sunday during Holidays they are lines to get in, meandering people inside, some drooling, some a bit huffy due to this is a True European Pastry - Natural Breads and more place. Come back after the holidays if some statements twist a bit hahahahahahahah I get the giggles!!!! And RUM BALLS are incredible for everyone!!

Yelp
Have not had a single item in this bakery that was less than delicious. Cannot get enough of this place!

Yelp
Super amazing bakery. Never knew this place has been here. Cute patio. Definitely a must try. Very friendly and quick service. Be prepared for a little bit of a line as this place is quite popular. They have a wide selection of pastries and other bakery items!

Yelp
Still delightful- nice service, great selection, clean shop. I've been thinking about my chocolate croissant pretty much every day since we were last there I can't wait to go back. I wish this place was closer to my house because then I'd be there every day. But maybe it's actually better that it takes a while to get there!!
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
Can't get enough! Absolutely love this bakery!! The service is incredible - every single day! I love sitting outside and eating our yummy pastries! Everytime my daughter and I visit we try something new and it is always so delish! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

Yelp
This place is great. You might see the croissants, and while they are good (almond is my favorite), the long twisted cinnamon pastries are not to be missed! Also, the variety of danishes should not be overlooked. It looks to be a little converted house with a parking lot in the front that turns over quickly. It is a great spot for those Saturday morning sugar cravings.

Yelp
Oh mannnn this place is good. Better than good. Excellent. My fiancé and I just moved to Lakewood and a friend of ours recommended checking out Taste of Denmark. Thank goodness for her. As croissants are my fiancés favorite, I decided to stop by this morning to pick up some for his birthday. I left with two croissants - chocolate and ham & cheese- the almond kringle, a hand apple pie, and a cinni roll. Each bite was better than the next. I highly recommend trying them all and anything else Taste of Denmark has to offer. We definitely hit the jackpot by having this spot in our new neighborhood!

Dan W.

Yelp
This is worth the drive, I live in Centennial but the have lots of different pastries very delicious.

Lauren S.

Yelp
This place still satisfies! It feels like things have changed a bit since the pre-COVID days when it was a solid 6 stars--back when the croissants were packed with more meat and cheese. Still, it's better than most spots around.

Yelp
Kørte en god løbetur og blev så sulten. Gik til Taste of Denmark og fik rigtig mange danskere. det var helt fantastisk. Jeg vil helt sikkert spise her igen og igen og igen. Gud velsigne.
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
This place is great with a variety of pastry selections with really fast service and nice staff--but it's super overpriced. We paid $25 for 5 pieces. Also--place inside to order is super small and typically overcrowded. Overall- would come back for a special occasion only.

Yelp
Stop here everyone we go to my uncles house for thanksgiving. Pies and pastries, always a hit!

Queen F.

Yelp
I would join this place if it started a religion holy twisted croissant, so so so so so good

Yelp
This is such an amazing little gem in the neighborhood. Ham and cheese croissant with jalapeño is my favorite breakfast.

Yelp
My mom is Danish. We have traveled to Denmark at least 15 times. The almond weinerbrød (kringle) here is amazing and the most authentic to what I have eaten in Denmark. Earlier this year I went to Racine, WI and did a Danish Kringle tasting tour to several of the famous bakeries, and Taste of Denmark was better than all of them and the most authentic. This place has amazing and knowledgeable staff. Plenty of parking A wide variety of pastries including gluten free options I highly recommend this place. The Danes make excellent food...especially pastries.

Julie A.

Yelp
The food is good but very expensive. The staff is friendly. I think adding the patio and the coffee bar will be great for them this summer..

Rosabelle B R.

Yelp
I have never had a bad experience. The apricot danish had real pieces of tart and juicy fruit. The almond and chocolate croissants were absolutely sublime, crisp and soft in the right places. Quality ingredients!!
google avatar

Kristin ..

Yelp
Love this place. Honestly I usually avoid it because I want to but everything. Wanted a nice loaf of bread though so stopped by for that and a couple of treats.

Jocelyn C.

Yelp
I have a hard time driving by without stopping in. Everything I've tried is fantastic. The employees are always friendly and welcoming, making each visit enjoyable. Their new covered patio with great seating is a wonderful addition. Plus, the coffee is great! Highly recommend Taste of Denmark for delicious baked goods and a pleasant atmosphere!
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to Denmark and this tastes like what I ate there. Honestly, I think that's the most generous thing I can say. We stayed with friends there and my friend's husband brought home breads and pastries. We ate them and they were incredible. When my friend got home, she scolded her husband for getting the lower quality stuff from the supermarket. If that's low quality, wht do we have here in the US? We did try the stuff she wanted him to get and it was even more incredible and our minds were blown. This was on par with that and I feel that should give you all the information you need to know that you should try this!

Pati M.

Yelp
Everything is wonderful, no matter what you order, your tastebuds will thank you. The staff is so helpful and so sweet. One of our favorite places.
google avatar

Yelp
The cutest, freshest, most amazing little gem in the Denver area! Such fresh pastries and unique delicious treats. My boyfriend has family from Denmark and loved the nostalgic treats for his birthday. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Diego P.

Yelp
Great pastries. Croissants are top notch - chocolate, Ham and cheese, whichever. Danishes are amazing: they have cherry, blueberry, apple, and raspberry and they're all incredible. Same goes for the cinnamon roll. Employees seems to enjoy working there so seems like they're treated well. Will keep coming back.
google avatar

Veronica B.

Yelp
I'm so happy I could cry. I've been living in Denver for over for years now and have been search for fantastic pastries that aren't just muffins and cookies. My favorite pastries are Argentinean but that's been missing in my life out here and finding Taste of Denmark brings me closer to my favorite. They have quite a pastry selection and their pastries are so fresh and tasty! We couldn't decide pajar to order and ended up with a dozen items. The pastry cream, the cinnamon roll, the apple strudel, my goodness the list goes on which ones were my favorites! Fortunately I visited on their last day before their summer break and now I'm in withdrawal. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Just got back from a fabulous trip to Denmark not too long ago and finding this little gem in the random middle of Denver on my most recent trip here was the best surprise EVER!!!! Asked the owner's son what his favorite ones were in the showcase and of course had to grab one of each that he recommended. Guys, literally, every piece of pastry and cookie in that bakery box was delicious and worth every calorie consumed. I liked that it was none of the baked goods were not American style crazy sweet but just sweet enough like the Danes do it! Eat local! Support local!

Yelp
A family favorite we've been going to since the union location back in the 00s, with pastries familiar and new. Try the kringle, you'll find a new love for almond paste! My faves are the sesame twists. Go early before they sell out of your new found faves too!

Yelp
Hands down best ever from the pastries and fresh bread to the experience love , love , love everything about this bakery! Miss working and seeing all the daily customers faces! Danielle
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Everything is delicious and the customer service is even better, even if you got in MINUTES before closing or come in right after opening. Love this placez

Yelp
Used to be THE BEST danish place. They must've sold it or changed management because the recipes have changed: pastries are tougher now, not as buttery or soft. Like with the chocolate croissants Kinda feels like they use French bread dough because it has the same hard shell feeling as the hard shell of a loaf of French bread; and they're puffed out more like smooth rocks, less like croissants. Ya just really disappointed; this used to be my FAVORITE bakery and now it's just 'eh' at best, no big whoop anymore.

Karl G.

Yelp
If greek philosopher Plato was alive and looking for a bakery to describe as ideal, he would choose Taste of Denmark. Their baked goods are extremely fresh, and they use high quality agreements, and have a wide variety of baked goods to choose from. There is often a long line, so its best to go at 7 am or early enough to beat the crowds. Even with crowds, the bakery runs smoothly and often smells good, so as far as ambiance is concerned, its basically what you want in terms of a bakery.

Jana M.

Yelp
I am so sad to feel so completely ripped off by the kransakage I ordered for my mom's 80th birthday. The minimum size cake they will make is supposed to be for 15 people, $134.25 base price. With tax and tip I paid $160. The cake is tiny and in no way ever could you say it would feed 15 people. It might feed 5 to 6. It's tiny. My mom immigrated from Denmark and I really wanted to get something special but this is not special. What a rip off! I'm very sad as their pastries are good, but I will never ever be a customer of this establishment again. I even begged for 8 rings a ring for each decade and they couldn't even do that. Hopefully my mom will like her tiny cake. I really should not have tipped as this cake isn't even worth $40.

Yelp
Once again, this place proved it was the "go to" bakery on the west side of town. Not only are the baked goods absolutely wonderful, the staff is friendly and helpful. Not to mention that the building is super clean and well maintained. I enjoy the quaint little outdoor place to eat and drink my coffee. I love stopping in on Sunday mornings and picking something new to try. This small business is a local treat.

Yelp
All their pastries are delish!!! I will give 5 stars Customer service. I keep coming back if I'm in Lakewood.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place - have gone twice now. The husband and wife owners are very kind (they have come out before to speak with us during our meal). The food is delicious and I doubt you will be disappointed by whatever you try. Food takes 15-20min. We have come with our toddler and there are usually only 1-2 tables that are also taken when we are there, but we never worry that we are being too loud compared to other people.

Dorothy S.

Yelp
What can I say this place is phenomenal. It a must visit when in the area. Everything is delicious, staff is friendly. There usually a line but it moves fast, don't let that stop you from trying the best bakery in the area. Possibly the best bakery in Colorado

Yelp
I have always loved a Danish Pastry, literally my experience up until eating them here has been king sooper or safeways. So you can only imagine how blown away I was when I had one here. They are fantastic. Such a treat. I moved into the neighborhood a few years back and drove by it a few times and almost swerved lanes looking at it. As a big King Diamond/Mercyful Fate fan, just seeing a Danish flag and the sign completely mesmerized me. Also a big fan of the pastry. So the first time I came early enough that it was open as all previous times were late in the day after it closed it was, very exciting. It did not disappoint! The normal pastry is my favorite but I've pretty much had all the stuff here from savory to sweet it is all made with love and they are so so amazing and a total treat to yourself. Pop in a grab something, you deserve it.

Family F.

Yelp
This place brings me back to my mother land in Sweden where pastries are an art. There are bar none no competition for this place be prepared to wait for the chance to order as the place is not a secret. Also expect in true Europe fashion there will be a summer vacation where they are gone for a few weeks. Much love for your values on life not just dollars. If one chances to visit at slack time there are a few tables and a patio to sip coffee and get an immediate fix of almond paste and sugar. Don't change a thing.

Yelp
They made the cake for my engagement. I proposed to my fiance on 26 December 2023 and they did such an amazing job and played such a pivotal role in this engagement. I am forever indebted to Taste of Denmark as they will always hold a special place in my heart! They also have amazing Ham and Cheese and Jalapeno Croissants. 10/10 recommend.

Vern B.

Yelp
Great pastries. Local Lakewood and convient location. Busy on weekends. Goodservice

Julie A.

Yelp
Fabulous Kringle. We send it to my Danish mom every year! Only downside is the long line, especially at holiday time. But it's worth it!
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
Finally went back after a while and it was awesome as always! Great quality stuff that's so tasty! We had the cream puff with caramel apples that was great and I have a huge sweet tooth and love pastries but I really loved the spinach and cheese croissant! It was so flaky and good. I also loved the raspberry chocolate cake with layers of puff pastry and custard cream. The almond twist with poppy seeds and I don't even know what else is our good to that we love a lot! It was pretty busy with a line on a Sunday morning around 11 and they were out of the chocolate croissant but it was still worth going! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Laleña J.

Yelp
This place has the best pastries in the area. If you get there right as they open and get a warm croissant, you're in for a good day. My favorite items include the jalapeño, ham, and cheese croissant, the cinnamon strips, and their cream puffs. No matter what you get it'll be good. I haven't had anything I disliked yet. If only they had peach in the summertime!

Christian S.

Yelp
We flew in for a wedding. Taste of Denmark was featured after dinner. The cakes were so great that I felt compelled to give them 5 stars.
google avatar

Renaye V.

Yelp
What a gem to find authentic Danish pastries and breads in my backyard. My friends family is from Denmark and she could not believe how much the "waffle" tasted like her grandmother's. We got there a little too late to take advantage of the breads we wanted, they sell out fast so get there early if there is something specific you are looking forward to. The staff were helpful and knowledgeable and didn't rush us at all. I will be going back for the rye bread and huge cream puff shaped like a pretzel!
google avatar

Elise M.

Yelp
Taste of Denmark has the best pastries in town. I have never gotten something there that wasn't absolutely amazing
google avatar

Christine B.

Yelp
Almond Queen - that should be my nickname. So I was thrilled to see this bakery bursting with almond items. I chose an almond raisin roll, my husband and I decided to split an almond bear claw later, and we purchased an almond Kringle for my brother-in-law, knowing he would share a little! My husband also purchased a raspberry Berliner. The almond raisin roll was delicious but (if you can believe it) maybe had too many raisins. Weird comment, right? It was just overloaded and lacked balance but I still loved it. The bear claw was terrific. Their almond paste is tops. Surprisingly, the Kringle I obtained from my brother-in-law wasn't quite as good as others I've had. The raspberry filling in the Berliner was perfect, but the pastry itself was unremarkable. So, kind of a mixed bag but still an outstanding bakery overall compared to what's out there these days.

Mitch

Yelp
they are never open, don't waste your time going by. Never mind their business hours, they don't matter. They close up and take vacation all the time. Poor business practice. Hire some help.
