The 13 Best Cancún Restaurants | Eater

"Taste of India specializes in South Indian cuisine, and thanks to founding chef Gulab Singh, the restaurant has established itself as a favorite among locals for years. The menu includes a variety of curries—including vegetarian, seafood, and lamb—as well as dishes like salmon tikka or mixed grilled meats. Platters include mains along with saffron rice, garlic naan, and gulab jamun for dessert. Try a bit of everything during the weekend buffet. [$$]" - Wendy Pérez

I went to Taste of India Cancun on a Sunday to experience the Indian buffet. The Indian buffet is only once a week, every Sunday, from 1PM to 6PM. The buffet did not include any water or drinks. The total cost of the buffet was $298 (for the food) + $50 (service charge) + $36 (for a water bottle). I was surprised by the cost of the water and the service charge. But, the staff was very friendly, the food was delicious, and I recommend the restaurant. 4 stars.

I recently visited Taste of India in Cancun with high expectations, but my experience was a mix of disappointment and unrealized potential. Food Taste The food was average. While some dishes were flavorful, others lacked the authentic Indian spice profile I was hoping for. The taste didn’t leave a lasting impression, and the overall experience felt underwhelming. Service The service requires significant improvement. Communication was a challenge as the server’s English proficiency was limited, which led to confusion in understanding the menu and our requests. A more fluent English-speaking staff would greatly enhance the experience for international customers. Food Quality The quality of the food was not up to standard. Ingredients didn’t feel fresh, and the presentation could have been better. Attention to detail in both preparation and serving is crucial to making the dining experience more enjoyable. Overall While Taste of India offers a slice of Indian cuisine in Cancun, there’s room for improvement in both food and service. With better-trained staff and a focus on enhancing taste and quality, this place could reach its true potential. Until then, it might not be the top choice for Indian food enthusiasts.

Google
One of the good Indian restaurants in Cancun and somewhat cheaper of the lot. I wouldn't say the food was great but it was ok considering Indian options in Cancun. The service was good.

Google
The malai kofta and Naan were decent but the kofta balls had little spices or texture and the rice was extremely bland for being Indian rice. The prices were also not great for what we got. That all being said, garlic naan had a good texture and richness and the malai kofta sauce was good. Probably not one to go out of your way for.

Google
Do not waste your money here. I ordered a couple of items, and everything was terrible. The aloo parantha hardly had any filling, and the dal tadka did not taste like dal. If google allows negative rating then it should be -5 for this restaurant.

Google
Not an avid reviewer, but felt the need after seeing reviews saying "tasteless" or "lacking spice." As a Mexican, I can say it did not lack. As an American who visits Indian restaurants often and is a fan, this was up to par, if not better, than ones back home. Wait time was appropriate for our order. Group of 8: appetizers for all, each had a dish, tried 4 types of naan. 3 vegetarians, 1 child. Everyone was satisfied. Newbies to Indian food enjoyed it, and regulars weren’t disappointed.

Google
Very few halal options in Cancún when it comes to Indian food. Glad we decided to stick with Taste of India. We were more than happy with the food which was reasonably priced and definitely fulfilled our craving for some spicy food. Visited a second time as ww enjoyed the food so much. Home style flavours and very reasonably priced. We're from Birmingham, UK and the the food here was on par if not superior than some local restaurants.

Google
I had great food and service. I saw the staff deal with a difficult customer gracefully. Pro tip for those traveling in Mexico. If you want something from the waiter, flag them down, otherwise they will leave you in peace. I appreciate them for that.

Yelp
The place has a nice ambience. The staff was very kind and helpful. We walked in and they were just opening. We showed up to enjoy a nice lunch around 3 o'clock. We ordered quite a few things. We started off with the Samosa, which was two. The flavors were good. We got the papadum and they were tasty. We both got lemon and iced tea. She ordered the vegetarian biryani and I ordered the lamb korma. I'm very glad I asked because she said that rice was not included with the dish. I was even more shocked to see that it cost me 89 pesos for rice. My friend enjoyed her rice dish. The Naan with all that garlic did not taste or have a bunch of flavor. The portion was extremely small. As for my lamb korma, it was very large pieces of lamb that weren't cooked long enough to be soft. It was a lot of chewing. I did enjoy the sauce plus the mango pickle that they brought. However a 1300 peso lunch?! I asked for a three on my spicy, and there was no spice whatsoever in the korma nor in the mango pickle. I'll stick to the other restaurant in the area. It was closed under maintenance. I don't expect to spend $56 even in America on lunch.

Yelp
This was just okay. They have vegetarian options. The Malai kofta was about $300 pesos and didn't taste the way we are used to. The rice and garlic naan were also just okay. Some of the staff was nice, but some of them didn't seem too happy to be there. Prices were too high. Ambiance is pretty good with good Indian music playing. I would rather try a different Indian restaurant next time.

Yelp
Great Indian food. Spicy is best! I ordered naan , chicken Taki masala, and another spicy chicken kabob , and chicken with spinach. The waiter was very professional and gave us recommendations & brought us some extra spicy chilly sauce. Waiter knew both English and Spanish.

Yelp
I don't understand the bad reviews. Just had dinner here and it was amazing! Tasted super authentic, just like the food at some of my favorite restaurants in India and the US. I can only compare it to Patravali, the other well known Indian restaurant in Cancun. Felt like Patravali was trying too hard to make their dishes "gourmet" and I didn't enjoy that experience. Whereas Taste of India just serves the classic Indian dishes that everyone loves, with no frills but super clean and delicious ingredients. The garlic naan was phenomenal, buttery and garlicky and the perfect texture. The chana masala was also amazing- not watery, super flavorful, and the chickpeas cooked perfectly! The portions were also the perfect size to eat the chana with the naan, and I left full but not uncomfortably stuffed. I can't wait to go back. 100% recommend for vegans and vegetarians.

Yelp
A wonderful authentic cuisine. We had shrimp marsalla, tandoori shrimp, lamb biriani, garlic nann. Everything was delicious. The absolute best was the lmb. I almost ordered another, but I am sooo full I really couldn't swallow another bite. The service was very good, very attentive. The restaurant is very clean and follow the CV-19 protocols. Highly recommend by this reviewer

Yelp
I ordered the chili chicken Marsala which was very spicy but there also was not very much chicken in the dish; maybe, 1/2 of one chicken breast? The rest was only sauce, onion and jalapeño slices(half of the small bowl it was served in). The hot and spicy vegan soup was tasty but again more liquid than vegetables! Both dishes served with no napkin and I had to ask them for one! The servings were not that large at all! I would give MAYBE a 2.5 star rating? Also, don't sit at the lone, round table, nearest the door. It rocks on the floor 1/2" or more as well as the table top itself rocks that much on the pedestal! I moved to a different table, but, they seated someone else there 5 min later, rather than try to fix it!

Yelp
Omg authentic indian!!! It was so good. Everything tasted great and the service was good and it was cheap too (everything in mexico is cheap) Garlic naan, chicken fried rice, garlic tikka, and chicken makhani is what we had and i highly recommend all of it!!!

Yelp
I will only give this place three stars. The place is clean. The waiters are friendly and service oriented. The waiters being local still know Indian food reasonably well. The reason for the low stars is because the food itself is not very high quality food. The food is of the street vendor quality - VERY oily and very salty. We orders some normally non-oily dishes like paneer tikka masala - and that too was oily. The food was well cooked but did not meet the standards of a good quality restaurant. If you are craving Indian food - it is definitely passable.

Yelp
I love Indian food & of course this was about a 5 mins drive from our hotel. Don't underestimate the scenery it's authentic and flavorful just as you would get anywhere in the states . My boyfriend and I came here two nights in a row because it was so good!

Yelp
If you are a bride thinking of getting married in Cancun and looking for Indian food in the area this review is for you! We went to taste of India for our wedding tasting. We opted to go to the restaurant because it was much cheaper to do the tasting this way rather than having them come out to the resort. We tasted a wide variety of items: Chicken Tikka Masala- This is NOTHING like it is in the states. It seems like that all around Cancun. The Tikka Masala is an onion based gravy and not a cream heavy cream. However, the butter chicken does have a creamy gravy. Butter chicken- Delish! Narvrathna Korma- So we are not the type to like sweet Punjabi food so we asked the chef to make it spicy and not sweet he was able to quickly remake it and it was actually very good! Chaat Papdi- was really good, tasty, spicy and the chutney was just right! Lamb kabob- OMG! PHENOMENAL! We actually had the tandoor chef come out to talk to use and we complimented him many, many times on this dish! MUST TRY!!!! Chili Panner- Not bad for Cancun. I was a little hesitant because of the paneer but it actually wasn't bad. Naan- nice and fluffy! Vegetable Biryani- SOOOO good. It's almost like they slow cook it for ours the flavor is so rich! I love this place and the staff they are very friendly. We are still debating who we will be using for our wedding but this is definetly a good place to check out if you're in Cancun and want Indian food...however, it a bit far from the Hotel Zone and it doesn't feel like you are in Mexico they are located next to a office depot. If you are looking for a nice environment check out Elefante!

Yelp
This is food is so amazing. Would highly suggest going here if you are sick of all the Mexican food because I know my family and I were. Amazing flavor and true Indian food. Wish I had this back home. Super great

Venkat S.

Yelp
Awesome food.. we went as a family for vacation and were surprised to find authentic Indian food as against customized Indian food that you normally find in tourist locations. The owner was very helpful and the price was not that expensive. Overall I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great Indian food in Cancun

Yelp
Awesome food on New Years full of desi flavor! The highlight of our trip. A must try in cancun.

Rushil S.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing comfort food in a place you wouldn't expect. All the food tasted like proper Indian-spiced cuisine. We liked it so much the first time that we decided to go a second within the same week. If you are looking for a flavorful Indian dining experience, definitely recommend!

Meena B.

Yelp
Taste of India is located in downtown Cancun. Big place, decent food but it was empty. They were playing all Bollywood songs. It is a good place for people who are looking for Indian food. They serve vegetarian food as well. People don't seem to use Yelp in Mexico much, you will find very less reviews for places, so check for google reviews. We had ordered veg kofta, daal and Naan. Everything was decent. People traveling from Bay Area SFO will agree with me. They charged us for water and onions salad. Well this is not what Indian restaurants do in India. This should be made complementary.

Tulip N.

Yelp
The one star is for a decent Gulab Jamun (dessert). The buffet was absolutely horrible. On one end you have elefanta which serves the best North Indian food and the other this restaurant which is seriously not worth serving Indian Food. The fritters were cold and refried, the vegetable was cold and tasteless. The dal makhani was decent but no where close to average standards. The staff was least interested in filling the empty trays. Ambience was bad with some torn out sofa. Never visit again.
google avatar

Vaishnavi S.

Yelp
Visited TOI for dinner. Ambience is nice and staffs are friendly. We had a mix of vegetarian and non vegetarian food. Tomato soup and fish Tikka was good. Vegetarian food(veg kholapuri) was average. There was lot of oil in veg kholapuri and taste was average. Chicken tikka, naan and rice were good. You can give it a try if you are not a vegetarian and looking for some good tandoori options.

Yelp
Great food and excellent service from start to finish. We called ahead for a 12 person reservation and everything was on time. Food is great.

Gaurav P.

Yelp
Awesome indian food, reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend the place if you want to have some indian food.

Yelp
Amazing Indian food. Had the Thali which was great and got a bit of everything. Good service. Decent prices. Food was very very tasty.
google avatar

Supriya M.

Yelp
Bad bad bad food.. how can one mess up something as simple as aloo gobhi?! The paneer Kulcha and samosa were quite tasteless too.. this is not indian food it's something else only. Would have given 1 rating but gave 2 for the pleasant staff
google avatar

Pramod G.

Yelp
Firstly I wasn't expecting to find an Indian restaurant in Cancun. The food is pretty tasty

Nik D.

Yelp
Undoubtedly the best place in Cancun for Indian food that is closest to authentic. Service can become reasonably inconsistent though depending on what day and time you visit. Buffet is good value for money. Tandoor dishes are tastier than many other places
google avatar

khurram z.

Yelp
Ordered Tandoori Chicken (full) and Chicken Biryani. Biryani was so so and a little disappointing. However, the tandoori chicken tasted fresh and cooked tender from the tandoor. The naan were not very thick, but still pretty good. Had dessert Mango Kulfi - which even showed mango hair in it. Seemed that they made mango lassi and then froze it to make mango kulfi - not that great. Anyway, not much options for Indian food in Cancun. Service was good.

Yelp
After four days in Cancun, I wanted something different. Being from the bay area, Indian food was a good choice. I regret to say that the food was OK, but if you don't often eat Indian food, this place might be interesting. Also, the price was a little high considering other choices in Cancun, specially if you eat local food.

Judgmental B.

Yelp
Not good not good. I'm visiting cancun and went to taste of India all the way from westin resort and spa. It is really far . I'm of Indian origin and North Indian on that. So I know this food really well. We ordered dal makhni and paneer, pudina parantha, naan and veg rice. Dal makhni was not the correct dal makhni. Dal makhni is the black urad dal and it seems the chef conveniently used masur dal which is obviously cheaper and inferior In taste and quality. Paneer was really below average not the kind of nice gravy you will expect in a restaurant. Naan and parantha was okay, rice was okay. We order almond kulfi which was too sweet served in an outdated cup. Let me add this now it is very easy to make meat and chicken tasty and yummy but you pass the test when you make a vegetarian dish delicious. Sorry to say that does not stand true for taste of India. Now I want to compare this to elefenta, where the food was amazing and the location was amazing, we ordered 3 entrees 1 appetizer naans and rice and the bill was $50. We ordered 2 entrees no appetizer and naans 1 tiny dessert at TOI and our bill was $40. Go figure!!!!!!

Manish S.

Yelp
Went on a weekend evening. place was empty. very expensive for the quantity and quality of food. some of the food tasted like the pre-packaged frozen items microwaved. 2 stars for the fact that it was open, the food was warm and edible.

Yelp
If u crave for authentic Indian food, this is the place.. I dnt remember the dish I had but it was lamb and some onion bhaji for starters.. Delicious..I ask for extra spicy just the way I like it... Marvelous! Best Indian food in cancun

Sam C.

Yelp
Very mediocre and prices much higher than you would find even in the states. Chicken Tikka Masala, rice and nan cost over $20.00 (Rice is extra) The quality of the chicken was really subpar. In fairness, I only had the one dish.

Jaywant A.

Yelp
Fried fish is delicious !!! They charge for water !!! The most ridiculous thing I've ever came across in my dining experience.

Deval P.

Yelp
It was our first Visit in Cancun. We were looking for good Indian Restaurant. We travelled 30 mins from JW Marriott to Restaurant and we were very excited to eat Indian food. But our experience was not at all what we expected. Waiter was having trouble understanding the food we were trying to order and inspire of clear instruction brought us Very spicy food. Staff was not friendly. Food was not that impressive as well.

Rodrigo C.

Yelp
If you want to try something different , this is the place the atmosphere and the scents take you straight to India. The food is good and they told me there is a buffet that definitely I am going to try

Mr D.

Yelp
Probably the best & most authentic indian food in cancun!! Tried mattar paneer, dal makhni, chicken cray, fish kolibada. All of them were super awesome in taste. Very hygienic & good service too. In short if u like indian food, u shud give it a try for sure! & this is coming str8 from an Indian!

Anand S.

Yelp
Best Indian restaurant in Cancun. Visited this restaurant many times. The food was very good and tasty. Highly recommended. Great service too.

Pier B.

Yelp
Average to mediocre food which lacks flavour at not so average prices. It felt like eating mediocre street vendor food. Service was distracted and there were literally more waiters than occupied tables.

Ray S.

Yelp
Very nice authentic Indian food. I am a vegetarian and found enough options for my family here. Sweets are very good
