The 38 Best Restaurants in Sydney, Australia | Eater

"Co-owner Sam Luo is from Shunde, a Chinese town with a significant history of Cantonese cuisine that earned UNESCO status as a city of gastronomy. The menu at Taste of Shunde features dishes that aren’t so regularly seen in Sydney. For instance, fried milk (which tastes like a snowy egg custard) can be served savory with fish cakes, roe, and pine nuts, or sweet with mango, while the fried milk rolls are like a coconut-laced hybrid of spring rolls and cannoli. The restaurant is located in Hurstville, one of the alternative Chinatowns that thrive across Sydney (like Chatswood and Eastwood in the north, the Little Shanghai strip of dumpling shops in Ashfield, and the neon-lit Burwood Chinatown in the city’s inner-west). Must-try dish: The blockbuster item is the lavish roast goose (sometimes made with duck)." - Lee Tran Lam

Not a bad yum Cha place in eastwood , my view it is better than the other options in Eastwood . However it is not cheap , it is in line with the fancy places in the heart of Sydney. Overall service is good for a weekday, good tastes ok, the fillings in the football is pretty light as shown in the photo, taste ok. Didn’t have to wait for a table on a weekday lunch.

Not bad for a yum cha experience. Hidden in the old supermarket building, Taste of Shunde reasonably decorated. There was a small moving queue for yum cha on the Saturday lunchtime we visited. Orders are placed online through QR code scanning like many places do nowadays. Kitchen turnaround speed was good. The dishes are well prepared. Tastes are slightly heavy but manageable with hot tea. There were bonus dishes for large orders available.

A restaurant focused on Southern Chinese cuisine. We booked for 10 people and we ordered 6 dishes : 1. XO sauce pipis with handmade rice noodles 2. Pan fried green chillies stuffed with dace fish mince 3. Dice wagyu beef with garlic 4. Salt and pepper squid 5. Sunde roasted goose (Whole) 6. Steamed fish cooked in 3 styles coral trout But actually we came for the 星班三味鱼 seafood platter ($318 with medium size coral trout) - it's a beautiful platter of seafood steamed on a giant lotus leaf: there's a live coral trout filleted and steamed 3 ways (green peppercorn, Chinese olive, red chilli), alongside some prawns and pipis. Under the seafood is a layer of silky 陈村粉 Chencun rice noodles. It was pretty good - the fish was 爽 firm, bouncy, flaky, fresh-tasting. The prawns were OK - large but not very 鲜. The rice noodles aren't as full of sweet, fragrant seafood essence as you'd expect - I think because coral trout doesn't have much by way of juices, and these particular prawns for some reason weren't very juicy either. Still tasty though. This portion was perfect for 10 people with 5 other dishes. The 蒜香和牛粒 wagyu beef cubes with garlic, capsicum, mushrooms was delicious - tender, juicy beef stir-fried in a moreish sweet and salty sauce. Lovely and colourful too. Pricey though at $63.80. Roasted goose is Crispy and more lean than duck. Highly recommend this dish. Pipis were nice and came with wide flat rice noodles but I prefer vermicelli noodles because if you don’t eat it quickly, the noodles get swollen and just stick together. Service is good and friendly. The place is compact because is a holiday and people are coming to enjoy dinner with family and relatives

A restaurant focused on Southern Chinese cuisine, a group of 5 of us decided to give place a try. Staff were attentive and kept checking in for our tea. Food also came out in a reasonable pace. I recommend the the double steamed milk dessert and the Coral Trout Seafood Platter. The seafood was fresh, and the noodles beneath it soaked in the various flavours. The roast goose though, wasn't as good as the other store. The dish size are very generous. A good addition to the Eastwood Chinese restaurant scene. Will be back in the future 👍😋

Incredibly kind and helpful staff. Manager Sue is very professional and thoughtful. Food was of a great standard and preparation areas very clean. Definitely recommend this restaurant for authentic but quality dining experience.

Excellent quality and decent portions. Waiting time after ordering was acceptable. However, the wait staff feel overloaded or very forgetful. Had to request water three times. The goose is amazing, and not common to find a place that also roasts it well. Highly recommend this dish. Bathrooms are surprisingly clean.

A unique Chinese place tucked in an alley. They offer variety of shunde style dishes as well as dim sum. We especially liked their pastry as it was crispy on the outside but pillowy soft on the inside. The fried fish cakes lacked texture and flavours, maybe it’s just not our taste. The roasted duck was good, the chicken feet had perfect texture and the shumai tasted fresh. The green bean was not as crunchy as we had hoped and the dumpling was soggy and wet.

We came here over the christmas holidays, for five people but were seated at a 4 pax table. When asked the waiter if we could move to a bigger table response was going to be a busy day we gotta make more money. Already the mood was off but we had elderly people so we decided to eat there. General flavours are okay, nothing special for the price - you could get the same dishes at other shops in Eastwood for alot cheaper. Service was mia, we had to get the menus ourselves from the cashier, even though the lady boss was there. The restaurant didnt even get full in the end. Overall and average experience at an average restaurant.
