Taste Of Sichuan

One of the most tasteless Chinese meals I've had in a very long time. The flavor was truly awful and price high, Low-quality ingredients in the hot and sour soup; instead of seaweed, they used cabbage—wow, that's incredibly cheap. They charge you for hot oil. The service leaves much to be desired, as some of the people who bring the food to your table don't speak the language and don't understand you. And to top it all off, the cashiers were very dishonest. They told my mother she was short on money, even though I had checked the money myself before paying, and it was correct. I wouldn't be surprised if they do the same thing to the restaurant or the waiters' tips. I would be very careful when paying, especially with cash. What's wrong with these cashiers? Are they not paid well enough that they feel the need to take advantage of elderly people? I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE AND I WILL NOT BE RETURNING.

To be honest, I don't know what this place is as popular or the hype around it is as big as it is. Everything here was good as far as the food, but other than that I don't know why people are going crazy for this place. Pricing is pretty high. It's not cheap Chinese food. The service here was very mediocre and the atmosphere here was not even that pleasant. They do have awesome large round tables with huge lazy season which you do not see often if at all. So I do like that as far as seating where you can have a table that accommodates 12 plus people. You don't have restaurants or anywhere else in the area that can do such a thing so I understand why this would be good for a party or something like that. But beyond that nothing was exceptional. The food was good. The portions were fine. Pricing like I said was pretty high but again service was really terrible. While we did yet a table relatively fast, we were there probably for over an hour waiting for our food and in our 2 and 1/2 hours of us being there. The weight stuff only came by three times. They didn't refill our water and they took a long time just to take our order. Then when they brought out their our food they continued bringing it out within 20 minute increments. Nothing came out together. I can understand that they are probably overwhelmed with business and they might not have enough staff. But again I'm not sure then why the hype here is so big. To be honest I probably will not come back here again just because of my experience. It probably is worth trying and maybe in a few months when the hype dies down I can reconsider but for now I was not that impressed

2nd visit on a Saturday. I remember I got the ma po tofu and the stir fried chicken last time. I thought there was nothing special about them. This time I got the steamed dumplings to share, hot & sour soup and hand shaven noodles. The dumplings were good, but most of them were stuck to the bottom. When I picked them up, they were torn and I didn't get to taste the soup inside..... The hot and sour soup and hand shaven noodles were both tasteless. I was hoping the shaven noodles were going to be chewy like Tasty Corner's, but it wasn't. The place looked clean, but there were some food debris here and there on the seat, and the floor. The service was fast and attentive. Be aware of the tight parking lot.

The hand-shaven noodles had a nice chewy texture, the orange peel chicken was flavorful with a good balance of sweet and savory, and the string beans were a standout—savory, black bean sauce, and hard to stop eating. Service was good, and it’s a solid go-to when you’re craving bold Sichuan food on the West Side.

My family and I could not be happier to eat here again for the first time in two years after their unfortunate closure due to a kitchen fire. It’s like nothing ever happened. It was packed with people, but we hardly had to wait. Food came out quickly and tasted exactly as we had remembered it - being the best Sichuan Chinese food in the PNW. It has quite the following with hundreds of people who will say the same. We ordered twice cooked fish, Kung pao chicken, bbq pork fried rice, and dry cooked string beans. Some of our all time favorites! Our waitress Michelle was also wonderful! Congratulations on the re-opening and welcome back!!

Delicious authentic Sichuan cuisine with good taste and affordable price. The chief is still the same chief before the remodeling after fire. Good to see them back in business.

Fantastic food overall, with some real standouts. The Stir-Fried Lamb with Green Chili Peppers was easily my favorite dish of the meal. It was delicately prepared, deeply flavorful, and beautifully balanced in both spice and seasoning. Rich without being heavy, it had the kind of depth that makes you want to keep going back for more—I could honestly eat this dish every day and never get tired of it. The Kung Pao Chicken was enjoyable but more on the familiar side. It tasted good, but the flavors felt more generic compared to the lamb, lacking the same level of complexity or memorability. The Chopped Pepper Hot Chicken, on the other hand, was excellent and absolutely worth ordering. Bold, well-seasoned, and satisfying, it stood out as another highlight of the meal. The Mapo Tofu was also very good, with great flavor and an authentic taste profile. It was, however, quite oily. The richness worked to a point, but the dish could be even better if the same depth of flavor were achieved with a lighter hand on the oil. Overall, a very enjoyable experience with several dishes I would happily order again, especially the lamb and the chopped pepper chicken.

My favorite Chinese food spot in the area! They have the best quality food and a huge selection with very reasonable prices. I love the lunch special because it comes with hot and sour soup which is so yummy. Their hot and sour soup is the best. If you're new here and like spice, my favorite dishes are the cheung du dan Dan noodles (hand shaven) and the Chong Qing chicken. It has a bit of the mala flavor which gives the numbing sensation but the heat level is also very nice! I love how big the restaurant is and appreciate that they're open on holidays. So glad they've reopened!

Still my favorite authentic Chinese restaurant in the PDX metro! We've been coming here for years, and it's always been our go-to spot for birthdays and holidays. My family and friends were so sad when they closed for a couple of years, so I'm beyond happy they're finally back. We ordered the walnut shrimp, cashew nut chicken, Sichuan style fish, pork fried rice, Chinese broccoli and my all-time favorite, the eggplant tofu. Rice was cooked perfectly. We were starving so I didn't capture every dish. Everything was delicious as always. Since they recently reopened, the wait can be a bit long. We went on a Sunday and lined up before they opened at 4:30, and it was totally worth it. Prices are the same.

Food is good but good luck getting served. We sat down and ordered. Table next to us sat down, they ordered. They got food. Table next to them sat down, they ordered, got food. 6 to 10 more tables swapped out and new folks sat down and ordered. They all got food. One of the tables even got the exact dish we ordered and we still had not got our food. An hour later they brought food after we complained and they couldn't care. No sorry, no oops, just, oh well, that's how they operate. I even asked why it was that way and the lady said, "we not know order, order out there table 1, table 2, no order, just next dish done, we send it out." WTH does that even mean? I took it as LIFO. Kind of a no win model for customers. Place was clean.

After a very long two year wait they are finally reopened! Their remodel looks great and very stylish. The chair was as comfortable as it was good looking. I came early to lunch service, (11:06) and it was already busy. As expected everything was $2 more expensive on the lunch menu. Service was better than I remembered and the food was generally excellent. My Hunan Fish was great, but the fried rice was pathetic. No big deal, but a slight detail they need to fix. I'm glad they're back!

I've been eating here with my family my whole life, so when I heard that they were reopening, I knew I had to gather the family. Everything is still just as delicious as before, if not better. The menu prices are about the same and the lunch special is such a good deal in today's restaurant climate. My absolute favorite dish has always been the Chong Qing Chicken and it's still the best. I've tried the same dish from other establishments and no one can make it like Taste of Sichuan can.

The welcome back crowd on a Saturday afternoon was a sight to behold. Streams of people filing into a packed restaurant from adjacent parking lots. The new decor inside, a nice refresh from the dated Marie Calendar interior of the past. Service was exceptional and calm considering the mob of hungry diners. We enjoyed some old favorites of numbing goodness, those Sichuan peppercorns did a fabulous job of making my mouth both spicy and numbed. Happy we returned after their long closure and got there early, not sure if I would have endured a two hour wait for a table. Congratulations Taste of Sichuan on a glorious re-opening, better than ever.

Husband and I went the day after their re-opening. Went arrived when they opened for dinner at 4:30. We were served quick. Food was fresh and delicious. Placed was packed within the hour. The portions were very large, perfect for family style and large gatherings.

We arrived about 50 minutes before closing and were turned away because the staff said they needed to start cleaning. It was disappointing, as we made the effort to come well before closing time and expected to be served. If the restaurant isn't able to accommodate guests close to closing, it would be helpful for that to be stated clearly so customers don't make the trip for nothing.

Love this place, all dishes we have tried have been great, the fish in light sauce, shrimp in a basket, all the fried rice, Orange chicken and Mongolian beef are our favs...

First day of reopening! Waiting is long, service is understandably slow but the food is great!

My wife and I were there yesterday & looking forward to a great eating experience that did not happen! The restaurant was very cool, needing a jacket to stay warm, our service was very slow, one dish actually cold & sent back. This is only the 2nd time in my life I did not leave a tip! I am not sure I would ever go back! JP

I am so excited you are back after nearly 2 years, I didn't think I was going to survive without you! Since you have reopened a week ago I have eaten here 3x and you are still the best around! The Kung Pao Chicken is still AMAZING, new servers are nice, and the place looks great! I'll be back again for lunch tomorrow...

They're open again! Cancel all your other plans. THIS is the restaurant you need to visit. Excellent food great service. Don't worry if they take a bit to get to taking your order. Food service is speedy- even when they are busy. We had Sichuan fish and sweet and sour chicken. Fried rice, spicy green beans. Yum!

11/8/2025. 2 PM. Just left Taste of Sichuan. Waited in line. Requested a take out order. answer was, "No take out" . They are no fun any more. 0 rating. Henry

The food in Taste of Sichuan is as delicious as before . The Appetizer served cold plate is fresh and delicious too .

Came here with a group of four at 5 PM on a Tuesday night. The restaurant itself was not very full but they sat all of the patrons in one section so it felt crowded. Service was quick and food came out quickly. All of the dishes we ordered were great and prices were fair. All in all, a great dinner option.

Pro-tip: Some of the spicy dishes can be very spicy! Highlights: I thought the prices were above average for a Chinese restaurant, but it's definitely justified when you see how large the portions are. I really enjoyed all the dishes that we ordered and weren't too spicy. Their vegetables in particular are so fresh and big! They also have incredibly quick customer service. Lowlights: They don't ask you for the spice level, so the Dan Dan noodles were so spicy they were inedible for me.

Packed restaurant for lunch. Sichuan or Szechuan or Schezwan, this peppercorn is not for the weak. Our forgetfulness & underestimation had us burning our entire lunch and thereafter throughout the day. Dishes authentic and true to taste. But again, if one is not used to the eternal burn, there is a point where fire overcomes water or tea or diet Coke. Stuffy humid inside, tables & serving utensils not the cleanest. Ants trooping along the window-side was a concern but not apparently enough for the staff to move us in the busyness of lunch. A momentary pause by the server, then walking off to never come back. Hmmm.

This place was quite busy and it definitely had a reason for it! The food was amazing! We ordered the scallion fried chicken which had the perfect crisp and beef and string beans which had a sweet and savory sauce coated very well every bite. The Dan Dan noodles were a bit too spicy for me but every bite I was able to get in, it was well worth the burn. The staff is friendly and the environment is welcoming. Love this place.

My guilty pleasure- love the tongue and lip numbing food at this restaurant. Unfortunately it's temporarily closed due to a fire and remodel with no date given for reopening.

My favorite Chinese restaurant, and heartbroken that they have been closed since December due to a fire. But I will keep checking faithfully, and when they eventually reopen, I will be gorging myself on hand shaved noodles with beef and kung pao chicken!!!

This is your classic Chinese spot. Honestly good food, good flavors. The lunch prices seem mostly in line with what to expect these days. I ordered the Generals chicken with sweet and sour ginger sauce. Admittedly I didn't exactly know what all was included, but turns out it's basically all chicken - if you want something with veggies, try something different. But the flavor was good! We also ordered this to go for a work lunch - good portions in their to-go containers, and they did well keeping all the orders straight!

Drive by yesterday and there was definitely some contractor trucks with tailgates down in the get er done position. Saw workers moving about, too! I don't want to spread too much hope since I really don't know what's happening, just reporting what I saw.

Good news! They're scheduled to re-open in April 2025, according to their website. Soooo... they are not "closed permanently"

I love this place. Such a large and diverse menu. I am a little scared to try some of their foods, just unfamiliar. I'm not as courageous yet. The best freshest spring rolls I've had around. I had a drink called red lotus and it was terrible. Their drink menu doesn't have a description of the drink, so I didn't really know what I was getting. But the name sounded pretty. Yet, still, I highly recommend this place.

We got take out because we were feeling a bit too lazy to cook. Ordered some classics: chicken chow mein, orange chicken, scallion pancakes and cream cheese wontons. Although the flavors were there and portions were great, the pancakes and wontons were soggier than I'd like. I get it, I ordered take out. And it probably sat for a while before I got there. But they also packaged the wontons on a bed of lettuce. The chow mein was absolutely fantastic and the same can be said for the orange chicken. Had some preserved orange peels which was a nice touch. Would love to dine in, but for takeout, avoid foods that should be crunchy!

Since we've moved in Oregon from Hawaii 2 years ago, we have no luck finding the great Asian foods ( Thai, Vietnamese, Chinese and Japanese). My friend who comes from Hawaii recommended us this place and other friends from Japan recommended this place as well. We know we should try this place, asap! We ordered steamed dumpling, Cheung du Dan Dan noodle, Kung pao shrimp, lemon crispy chicken and baby bac Choi stir fry. All dishes were big portions, super garlicky and fresh cooked. We definitely will go back again soon! You should try!!!

I loved this restaurant before they closed due to fire. It seems that something weird is going on because they never seem to know when they are reopening. The latest version of the website says June 2025. Unless they are opening tomorrow they aren't going to make it. I drove by the other day and they didn't appear to be close to reopening. The phone number on the website is disconnected.

Legit favorite Sichuan restaurant ever. Can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Authentic.

We've been here a couple of times, the food is good, wouldn't say its the spice level that we expect for Sichuan cuisine, but a normal level. Wide variety of sides to choose from, also try their Steamed Dumplings.. Service wise they are always good.. And the ambiance is nice for family dinners and with friends

I know they are closed right now but hoping they open soon because I love taste of sichuan. Been going here since it opened so many great memories and great food. Feel like I've grown up eating here, always a staple for us. Only downside it that It has gotten so expensive recently, prices have increased significantly. But the best Chinese food in Beaverton.

I have been coming here for years. They have the best salt and pepper prawns in the area. The serving portion are generous. I love the fresh peppers and jalapeño and onions they add. My other favorite is the classic fried rice that has beef, chicken and shrimp in it. There are so many other amazing dishes on the menu but these our my go tos. The service has greatly improved even compared to pre pandemic. I held back a star only for aesthetics. The interior looks a bit tired and could use to be cleaned and or updated. We will continue to dine in and order take out.

The establishment closed due to a fire. We are hoping it will reopen. This was our go to place for Chinese food.

Green beans with beef are winners!! Cake noodle was a bit dry for my liking. Eggplant tofu was tasty. Takeout service was prompt. Location is easy to access & interior dark but soothing. Ate too quick to remember to take pics!

Hand shaven noodles and spicy chicken are my new favorites at the Taste of Sichuan. Although the lobby and entry way will not impress you and the restaurant needs some TLC the I believe the food is deliciously spicy. The menu has plenty of variety and the servings are large, we easily took home leftovers for the next night. The service is prompt and efficient, they do have a bar but keep in mind I dont think they have a professional bartender so I would keep it as simple as possible. We will be back, we can pass up good Sichuan food.

Hot and sour soup was delicious. Chow Mein was delicious. Deep fried tofu with stir fried vegetables was delicious as well. There were so many people working, serving, bussing, etc. However, our server brought out our food and then never came back. Ever. Not to ask us how the food was, if there was anything else we needed (did we want dessert? Guess we'll never know). In fact, we had to hunt him down for our check. We gave him our credit card and someone else came to us with it to sign. Also, why on earth would you leave out the disgusting dirty dish cart for your guests to have as a view during their dinner? Gross.

4 stars for Portland (would probably be 3 in California) I wasn't really expecting much from Chinese food in Portland, but the food here wasn't bad. Not the most refined version of Chinese food, but satisfies your cravings. And the loofah here was standout delicious (on an absolute scale) - super incredibly savory. The stir fried lamb with scallions came with onions instead of scallions and the lamb slices where cut pretty thick, so if you're like my parents and looking for an authentic version, this isn't it. But hey the lamb is tasty. The bamboo shoots with pork dish I found too oily and some of the bamboo a bit tough but again it's still tasty. Fu qi fei pian was underwhelming, I'd skip it. Portion sizes here are massive - we completely over ordered expecting smaller portion sizes, so be conservative with your estimates of how much food you'll need.

I had the Crispy Chicken with hot garlic sauce with fried rice. The crispy chicken was delicious. Very moist which somewhat surprised me. Generous amount of hot garlic sauce that they cook it in. Great flavors but didn't seem that spicy which is perfect for me. The fried rice....was mediocre in flavor and taste. It tasted very fresh which is always nice, but something was missing. I would recommend this place and I will probably go here again.

So sad that our favorite restaurant is slated to be closed until someone in 2025, but we are loyal clients who would wait until the ninth Tuesday of the eleventh year of this decade off necessary. We LOVE this restaurant! Wishing them all the best in their rebuild and remodel. I can only imagine that the new improved T O S will be an even better dining experience once rebuilt/redecorated as they like. We will be some of the very first to return upon reopening, that's guaranteed! Bringing the whole family to enjoy the finest authentic Sichuan food in the northwest again, in their new, lovely dining room at a big family table. Making my reservation over a year in advance!

We can't wait for them to reopen. The chong king chicken, Kung Pao chicken and the green beans are all amazing. The food was tasty and perfectly seasoned/spiced. Service was ok, not terrible but not amazing. Even with that, we will be back.

Came here for Sunday lunch and it was packed. We didn't have to wait long to be seated though, which was nice. I was pleasantly surprised to find that they offer lunch specials on weekends as well! We got an Eggplant with Hot Garlic Sauce and a Kung Pao Chicken, both came with soup, salad, and fried rice. The portion was quite a lot, it was enough for us to bring some home afterwards. Each dish was 12.95, so it was well worth the money! Overall the flavor was pretty good, it was quite heavy on the oil though.

Our family is so glad we found this place. The Chinese restaurant we've been going to for 20 years closed down, so we needed to find a new one. Literally everything we've ordered from here is great, and the people that work here are awesome. The fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, and the cashew nut chicken are some of our favorite dishes. We have only ever ordered to go, but when we pick up the place is always solidly busy, and the workers are great. Clean and nice on the inside. This is where we are ordering our Chinese from now on.

Amazing food and great service. I have to say I'm very impressed with my experience eating here. Not only were the staff extremely friendly and knowledgeable, but I also had so many vegan options to choose from! If you're looking for great authentic Chinese food with plenty of options for everyone I would highly recommend checking Taste of Sichuan out. I will definitely be returning in the future!

Classic chinese food in Hillsboro. Came here for lunch and it was packed. They offer lunch specials that are made to be served individually vesus the traditional family style. Each lunch special comes with one entree item, a soup, salad and white or fried rice. I actually love how they do this for lunch since weekdays I can come get a filling meal without it being just a large portion of one entree. The food is pretty good for the price. The dan dan noodles are superb here! They have this thick spicy sauce with a peanut taste that goes so well with the noodles. My favorite by far. Food comes out pretty fast as well so this is a good option if you want food thats more flavorful than your standard fast food.

We ordered the usual except one dish so I will talk about that one dish. You can check my previous reviews. However, the seafood stew pot was extremely salty this time around. We diluted it because it was overly salty. The new dish we tried was the rice cake with pork. It was a bit risky because it's take out and if they don't cook it well the rice cakes may be hard as a rock or as mushy as a pea. It was surprisingly good. The texture was a bit soft and chewy-like rice cakes should be. The flavor was more on the lighter side. The pork was very tender and wish there was more. To my surprise, there were also mushrooms, snow peas, and also Chinese broccoli, as well as bean sprouts. Therefore, it made the dish have various textures! I enjoyed it very much and glad that the quality was still good, even if it was take out.

It was great! My go to Chinese order is General's chicken, and theirs was really good. Also, despite the little pepper symbol that most places put next to it, this was the first time it actually was spicy. (To my very plain tastes, I'm sure it's still barely noticeable to regular spice hunters, but it was delicious and a little more heat and flavor than most restaurants put on it.) I was really sorry to find out the night after trying this place for the first time that there was an after hours kitchen fire- but no one was hurt, and they seem to be working on repairs already, so fingers crossed it will be open again soon!

Is it a yes or a Pan* Express? Don't let the shape of the building (it was once a Marie Callender restaurant or something) or the fact that they offer Orange Chicken fool you; this place is a yes. This place even has the typical 3.5 star average rating that I look for on Yelp. The one that says lots of people liked the food but some people didn't like the service or were picky about the interior design. Y'all. I rate food only for it's flavor and texture and skill. I could eat dim sum in a ditch and be happy as a clam, but give me a cold cardboard pizza in a palace and you'll still get 1 star. Pro-tip: 3.5 stars is the sweet spot where you're paying for taste and not for frills. You can bring your Mandarin-speaking-only grandparents here for Sichuan cuisine. The portions are massive, and there's even a Lunch Specials menu. Glasses of ice-less 茶温 water are served automatically without a waitress asking you to spend more money on a beverage when you're there for the food. They gotchu. All the yum cold appetizers like 夫妻肺片 and pig ear are on this separate page and preceded with this long paragraph inviting people to try the "wild" stuff (including the cucumber salad, hah)--if you're reading this, give it a go! this is the real stuff. \\ 水煮鱼 (Sichuan boiled fish) - less liquid than I've seen at other places; I like it because the fish isn't swimming in a pool of red oil - so many slices of soft white fish fillets (tilapia?) - also some celery and Napa cabbage (classic) to attempt to cut through the oil - the numbing flavor wasn't the strongest I've had but still captures some of the essence, so it could make a good intro version of the dish to someone who isn't used to the classic Sichuan peppery numbness \\ 宫保虾 (kung pao shrimp) - the shrimp is bite-sized and clothed with a sweet and crispy coat - so many peanuts! - a little spicy but not very peppery \\ 干煸四季豆 (green beans) - each green bean was juicy and crunchy - a little spice - also a massive portion and one of the freshest versions I've had of this dish - as they cooled, the green beans took on the classic wrinkled appearance Rice is not included, so we ordered two people's portion which was way more than we ate even for two meals. Yay for takeout containers. The food reheated well and made for another fantastic meal. At the tables next to us, some people opted for lunch sets that had a main dish and some fried rice or something all on one plate. If you're there by yourself or if people don't want to share, that can be an option, too. Overall, this is a place I could see myself going to regularly for my Sichuan boiled fish cravings! There's lots of parking, and the food is perfect for sharing family-style with friends or, well, family.

My husband and I love this place even though we have to drive at least 45 mins to get there. We order Togo many times and dine in once for a while. He usually orders in Chinese so I'm not sure exact name but here are our favorites, green beans, brisket soup, stir fried lamb, tofu and seafood soup and tendon and brisket cold dish. It costs about $80-90 totally but we eat at least 2 meals. Service for dining is so quick for many dishes. Green beans are stir-fried with chili oil and they are the best. Brisket soup comes with bok choy and bamboo roots. The meat is so tender and the broth is tasty. It's perfect for a cold day with a bowl of rice. Seafood soup is another choice for soup without spicy. It comes with tofu, seafood like fish, shrimp and squid and a lot of veggies. If you are craving some authentic Chinese food, this place won't disappoint you!!

A place that serves good, spicy Chinese food. Portions are typically generous too! I always stop by here when visiting Portland.
