Google
Came here for the first time with my friends and it was delicious! I love the wide variety of options on the menu! We had a really long wait time before getting our food but the place is definitely worth a try!

Google
The food is absolutely delicious every single time I am coming back here. I'm not a fan of seafood, but their dishes are flavored and savory. Best place if you love delicious spicy food. Always coming back to this place whenever I am in town. 11/10 ⭐️

Google
The place was disgusting it looks like it had been cleaned in weeks. There was a lot of grime and buildup in there. I was really gross. I felt gross being in there. The food was gross. Although the orange chicken sauce was nice spicy. I did not finish my plate at all, and I didn’t even want box to bring it home. The rice was stale taste like it was five days old and the chicken was plastic tasting with orange sauce on it. The eggroll tasted like a rotten rag. It was disgusting I almost threw up, very high hopes this restaurant is complete utter letdown

Google
I would give a one star because COVID protocols were not followed. One of the waiters was reckless, unmasked, and next to our faces. However, I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt as he was truly just trying to be friendly. The hot pot was very average and not at all worth your money (unless you want the “experience”). However, the braised beef and potato was very tasty. I will be going back to try their other traditional Chinese dishes.

Google
As someone from China, I can guarantee you that this restaurant is very authentic. All my Chinese friends agree it’s the most authentic Chinese restaurant in CoMo. I ordered braised chicken 黄焖鸡, which was stewed and came in a stone pot. The ingredients were very fresh, presented and cooked to perfection. The portion is also huge—enough to feed two people! Reading the reviews, I find many American customers probably did not have the correct expectation about authentic Chinese food. It’s normal to find slices of pork fat, whole garlic cloves, and large chunks of ginger in the dishes. Please be more open to trying new things when you order from the authentic menu. Otherwise the American Chinese menu is also not bad!

Google
Simply and authentically amazing! Easily the best Chinese restaurant in Missouri (perhaps Midwest). And I have frequented many! Ask for the traditional menu and ask what’s good. Chicken with cumin. Dandan noodles. Eggplant, Potato, and Pepper dish. The best eggplant I’ve had in the States. Was nice and crisp on the outside with the soft eggplant texture inside. These guys do it right. Will come here again!

Google
Food here is always good when I eat in the restaurant but I've had nothing but bad experiences when carrying out. Today when I got my food the pork was half raw. Unfortunately after this I won't be back.

Google
I’ve been a long-time customer and used to love this restaurant for its authentic Chinese flavors. However, since the change in ownership and chef, the food has completely changed. The dishes no longer taste the same—what used to be rich, traditional flavors have been replaced by something very different. It’s disappointing to see such a drastic shift, and unfortunately, it no longer feels like the Chinese restaurant I once enjoyed.

Yelp
When it comes to take out Chinese food in Columbia, this is one of the better ones around. I am a beef and broccoli guy or a triple delight. I do also recommend any of the fried rices. They are typically very good. If I have 1 complaint, I wish they would put more filling in their crab Rangoon. They make a very good blend of the appetizer, but it get swallowed up by an overly large wonton. The filling is the best part, let it shine! Service is always good. Food is hot and ready to go exactly when they say it will be ready. It is in a nice shopping mall with Dicks, Pet Smart, Old Navy, and others. I think they have a 100 score from health dept, so restaurant is always clean. If your shopping and get hungry, I recommend this one.

Yelp
First time I tried this place it was really good, 2nd time not so much but they were totally different meals so maybe I just didn't like the 2nd one as much. The place is really dark, lightening it up a bit would add a lot to the atmosphere. I will try them again.

Yelp
Took them 1 hour and 20 minutes to make one entree to go order and then when I finally sit down to open it I didn't get half of the food I paid for. The food I did get was chicken that was hard/chewy and extremely disappointing. Will never order here again.

Yelp
This definitely one of the better Chinese restaurants in Columbia, their food always comes out piping hot and tastes delicious. They have a wide variety of menu options and have a second menu with some hotpot style foods. The restaurant is very spacious and has a decent amount of seating, the wait staff are overall very attentive but can definitely get overwhelmed when busy.

Yelp
Came in on a weeknight for dinner and were seated right away. Typical Chinese restaurant, service was okay. We had heard good things about this place so were excited to try. The food was good, but a bit greasy. - Crab rangoon (4/5): always a go to. Pretty good, the sauce was a bit too sweet for our liking though. - Chicken and mushroom (3.5/5): This dish was tasty, pretty standard Chinese food. Fried rice was good, nothing special. I thought it was bit salty - Beef stir fry (3.5/5): also pretty basic, lots of veggies. We were looking for some authentic Chinese food, but were a bit disappointed. We are willing to try it again though, maybe we just ordered the wrong things.

Yelp
The chicken is so tough. I can barely chew it. The pieces are also so big you need a steak knife to cut them with. I'm not impressed.

Yelp
Hidden Gem. I have ordered take out from here many times. This is the first time I decided to dine and and it won't be the last! It's a fun experience and delicious food! We may have ordered too much we were stuffed! It's a fun date night or family dinner night(just keep the little ones away from the boiling broth. SAFETY FIRST!). Server was very helpful. I didn't know how long to leave everything in the broth too cook for, she gave me some pointers.

Yelp
Their Yang Chou fried rice is wrong. I am Chinese. I know what Yang Chou fried rice should be. The dish from this restaurant is nothing like what I wanted. No bamboo shoots in it. It has soy sauce - it should not. They had sweet tasting sausage - totally wrong. We also had chicken with mushroom. That dish is Okay. Also ordered hot sour soup- not great. They may have other dish that's good. But we are disappointed in today's order.

Yelp
I've had my fair share of Americanized Chinese food across the Midwest, and I can't say that I've ever been particularly impressed...until coming to Taste Place. I stopped by with a friend for an early Saturday dinner, and we were seated immediately, with our steaming plates of wonderful food arriving shortly after. My friend got their sesame chicken dinner combo, which she said was perfectly seasoned and had just the right levels of crispiness and crunch. She subbed out the eggroll that comes with the combo for their hot and sour soup, which she greatly enjoyed along with the fried rice. I went for one of their "special diet" menu items (which I appreciated that they had), and it was pretty standard -- steamed tofu with a heaping helping of vegetables, as well as what seemed like a giant bowl of oyster sauce on the side. The true star of the night, though, was their sesame balls. I'm usually really picky with sesame balls, but they did a phenomenal job at this place. Fried to perfection, but not overly greasy, with the perfect level of crispiness and minimal sweetness. Also, at $6.99 for 10, the price is really unbeatable. I definitely wasn't expecting to get dim sum-quality sesame balls at the Columbia Mall, but Taste Place really did not disappoint.

Yelp
Food was awesome. Got the Generals Chicken with egg roll and fried rice and Garlic Chicken with egg drop soup and steamed rice. Everything was piping hot and made fresh. The generals chicken was a little sweet for my liking Service was ok...not great...but not bad either.

Jack F.

Yelp
Very good food. Best hot and sour soup in town. My order was quick and the staff was pleasant.

Yelp
I ordered takeout for lunch. General chicken lunch special with 2 crab rangoons $9 plus an egg roll $1.50. Great deal for $11. The food was ready in 10 minutes and was on par for what I would expect. Definitely will be going back.

Yelp
Our family's go-to for Chinese food in Columbia. To us has the best combination of taste, volume of food, and price. I have not had anything on the menu yet that I dont like. Our usuals are the chicken fried rice, chicken lo mein, pot stickers, orange chicken, mu shoo pork, and egg drop soup. The first time we brought my parents, they wanted to come back the next day to have it again, which is quite unusual for them to want the same thing two days in a row. Very friendly service too.

Yelp
Ordered something from the Chinese menu but as usual had the experience of finding the dish dully seasoned. This happens to me regularly when ordering from the Chinese menu in most Chinese restaurants -- the assumption that I don't want authentic dishes. Anyway, the eggplant, pepper and potato dish was really boring and pretty greasy. The fried rice was even worse. The shrimp tasted old and were suspiciously chewy. Cannot recommend this place. One final note: It smelled really bad inside when I went to pick up my order.

Cheryl B.

Yelp
We have eaten at the Taste Place about two times each month since they opened. The food is great and the service is fast. The price is more than fair. Their Hot and Sour Soup is the best! Whenever we want Chinese we go to the Taste Place!

Yelp
There isn't anything authentic about this place other than the cooks are Asian. The dumplings were hard as a rock and very thick, you couldn't cut them with a knife, I tried. The soup was broth and nothing more. I had crispy wontons, in the side. When we asked to return the dumplings, the lady looked at us silly and replied with "I'll do it this time" I do not recommend this place at all.

Yelp
Fantastic, amazing, will definitely be back. Everyone was so nice and my and my boyfriends meals were spectacular!!

Yelp
I came here with my family while visiting my grandmother and hands down best chinese restaurant I've been to in awhile! I like that they offer hot pot as well. Great customer service, not a loud area, just all around good food and atmosphere. We had the general tso tofu and the mabo tofu, very delicious and spicy.

Yelp
Ok this Restaurant it's really nice if u want to try authentic Chinese dishes.. Really Friendly Guys I honestly enjoy it not like Sessoning 63 that they discriminate other customers by putting way much more food on the Chinese customers than the rest .. they not honest people ( you guys are nice and friendly Good quality of food ) xiexie

Yelp
My husband and I stopped in to read the menu. It looked awesome so I ordered the chicken and Vegetable. We requested the dish to be spicy and was told Okay no problem. I get home with the dish to find there was no spice in the dish and it didn't have any seasoning. This was the worst Asian food I've ever had. No seasoning with whole chill peppers thrown in instead of chopped up and cooked into the dish for the spice. If I could give a -1 I would. They shouldn't be open for business.

Alexander B.

Yelp
Fantastic Food, amazing flavor. I always stop by when I'm craving a nice bowl of noodles. The broth is always flavorful, and the meat is always cooked just right. Noodles can be a little less thick, but that's mostly on just the type of noodle. Also, I'd say this is the only establishment in town that does "spicy" noodles right. Not too hot and yet not too mild. One negative is the price. Plan on visiting this place with family or friends.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place. I only order from the Chinese menu which is pretty authentic for this area. I recently had the the poached pork in chili oil. Delicious and tender with the right amount of heat. The vegetables were cooked perfectly with a crispy bite along with tenderness. The soups are nice on a cold day. This definitely will be my go to spot for Chinese food.

Yelp
One of the best Chinese restaurants in Columbia. I love boiled beef and spice chicken.

Yelp
The reviews are true, this place is incredible. Our take out order was so fresh and this was indeed the best Chinese food we have ever had. The crab rangoons melt in your mouth! Curry shrimp and spring rolls were to die for. Can't wait to go back and try more items!!

Chris F.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner on a Saturday night. The staff was pleasant and the food was good.

Janice E.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I lived in China for 13 years, so I know what Chinese food should taste like. Ask for the authentic menu. They have Sichuan and dongbei (northeast) dishes. The food was amazing, and the staff are so friendly!
google avatar

James E.

Yelp
Some of the best Chinese food in Columbia. Large portions, great price, and friendly staff. It is my goto place when I want Chinese food.
google avatar

Yelp
Best Chinese food I've had in decades! Crab Rangoon, moo shu pork and hunan chicken and shrimp. Sauces were perfectly seasoned. Also wonton soup - had 3 wontons - so good.
google avatar

Yelp
The name change has not changed the quality one bit. This is the best Chinese restaurant on the West side of Columbia. Their egg drop soup is fantastic. I have had several of their dishes but usually get Lo Mein and ask for it spicy. Try it, you'll like it!

Tim S.

Yelp
Order cashew chicken. Might as well be called cashew celery and carrots. Open containers of sauces spilled all over my food making me wipe down stuff just to open it up. Everything like warm and dry. Fishy fry oil taste. Ordered no fish. Called to have it fixed. They played the "bad english" bs even though they were yelling perfectly well in chinese acting like they u understood what I said. Said I repacked the bag I want a refund. That's fairly simple. I spent 70.04 and tipped the driver 7...I expect something fresh and edible. Then before they resolved the issue they all took off and went home. I bit I to something hard and spit it out. I have used this place before. Never again. This comes down when you all make good on this bs order you all sent me. Dont serve good paying customers this and play stupid.

Yelp
Found this place by mistake. We drove to two different asian food restaurants and they were closed. I was craving some noodles, so I gave this place a try. We really enjoy soup, veggies and noodles. I recommend a meaty broth vs plain broth, for extra flavor. We liked it so much, we went again the same week w/ our kid. However, the kid wasn't too impressed, but enjoyed it enough to say she'd go back if we made her.

Bec F.

Yelp
I was pretty disappointed in my food. I spent $30 on crab Rangoon, dumplings and sesame chicken and I barely ate any of it. The crab rangoon had barely any filling and was super greasy-- think pulled off a corner and grease dripped straight out. My dumplings were really gummy and rubbery. And my chicken was also pretty gummy and chewy. I saw this place recommended a bunch on different sites but I was super disappointed, felt like I wasted money, and ended up throwing all of it away.

Gary R.

Yelp
Had the sesame chicken with fried rice. The fried rice tasted like it was leftover from yesterday but the chicken was fairly good but too much breading. I would not recommend eating here. 2 hours late my stomach is not feeling too good.

Yelp
I work by the tasteplace and have lunch there a lot and take dinner home to my family of 5 frequently. we had 2 orders of kung-p.o. chicken that was so spicy my kids could not eat... my husband ordered kung-po chicken and received cashew chicken. when I called and asked if they would make it right they said no the orange chicken is always spicy and there were a lot of orders going out at the same time. I am a business owner and would not treat a customer like that. Usually great customer service and good food. disappointing!

Brian K.

Yelp
This place used to be really good. They've gone down hill considerably. I don't think I'll be ordering from here anymore. It's really a shame. The food used to be quite tasty. Not sure what happened, but their food is almost inedible now. Really disappointed.

Meredith L.

Yelp
Very frustrated we ordered at 11:56 ordered for 3 people and are located less than 1/2 a mile from restaurant. Called Store at 1:09 to inquire where our food could be and kept getting told the weather was bad, however we are located .5 miles away and it hasn't rained for 2+ hours, and was told they only had 2 drivers im sorry back to my point we are .5 miles away and its been over an hour it should not take this long. Called again 1:30 still no food and they tell me the driver is at my location i ask where they say an address i dont even know so i tell them my address and then they say oh yes hes there i say no hes not, so they then try to call him and at this point is has almost been 2 hours since i placed the order and i tell them to cancel and that i want my money bank. horrible experience!!

Gail L.

Yelp
We wanted this place to be wonderful. The people were very, very nice. The restaurant is conveniently located, the parking is easy and the place was spotless. But, we were disappointed in the food. Had Mongolian beef and Hunan chicken. Both dishes seemed to be strangely seasoned. My husband said the beef reminded him of liver. The dishes came with fried rice which was tasteless. The portions were huge - but they need to ramp up their seasonings. We plan on returning to give them another try--hopefully things will be better.
