"Carson’s Tasty Block Shave Ice & Ice Cream, a small family-owned shop, offers great Hawaiian shave ice. The secret? Check out the line of Hatsuyuki HF-500s purring in the back. One of the finest ice block shavers known to man, the green and white machine produces uniquely soft ice with a freshly fallen snow-like texture. Pair that with a medley of pure Hawaiian cane sugar syrups— like the POG, or Passion Orange Guava, which tastes like concentrated Hawaiian sun juice straight from the can — and it’s easily one of the tastiest desserts in the South Bay." - Kat Hong

"Yes, the rumors are true - the dill pickle shave ice at TastyBlock is the best in Los Angeles. Which might sound a little crazy, but this tiny dessert shop in Carson smashes every pillar of the Perfect Shave Ice Pyramid. For starters, they use a real, proper ice machine, which finely shaves the ice from a block (rather than crushing it), creating a super-fine snow-like base. They’re generous, yet judicious, with their toppings - never overdoing portions of condensed milk, chamoy, or li hing mui powder. And the syrups are, of course all pretty tasty, from blue raspberry to a killer keiki rainbow, but let’s get back to the dill pickle. A secret passion project created by the owner, it’s a bright green, vinegar-heavy syrup poured over soft, powdery ice. It’s a little shocking at first, but once your brain gets used to the amalgamation of unfamiliar tastes, much like all of us in quarantine, it will adapt." - kat hong

Google
Me and my fiance got shaved ice and ice cream. And I'm happy to say it was bomb. The shaved ice was amazing. Her ice cream was so good. I recommend this place to family and friends.

Google
I love the Halo Halo! I bring my friends when they come into town and they love it too. One use to live in Hawaii and says the shaved iced is 👌🏽. The staff is so kind 🤍

Google
Been living and working near by for years but came by this place in a whim during break and it was fantastic. Great flavors, friendly, clean, and good prices. One of us got a root beer float and the other shaved ice with three flavors and condensed milk. A small size was plenty generous and everything was delicious on a warm day. Can't wait to to back again and try more flavors. I took a photo of the hours on the door since reviews were kind of mixed on when they opened but mostly seems to open after lunch. Now I just gotta convince the office to being their food truck onsite one day.

Google
The cashier was so sweet and helpful and the portion size is very generous for the price! The shaved ice is also very yummy!

Google
Now I know 7eleven is next door but this was more refreshing, better flavor& the way they shaved the ice is like snow. It’s not like chunks

Google
Incredible shaved ice. A true authentic Hawaiin gem. Vanilla ice cream base with strawberry shaved ice with snow top(condensed milk) is truly incredible. A must try for all. They even offer Dole whip floats.

Yelp
My family and I decided to try out this ice cream spot for shaved iced. We got their shaved ice, udderly sweet ice cream and their elote ice dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious and we will be coming back again. Their prices are between $4-$10. And the staff was very nice. I hope they open one closer to Torrance.

Yelp
Was craving shaved ice for dessert after dinner in Torrance, so decided to check out Tasty Block Hawaiian Shave Ice. Parking was easy in the lot but there were no tables for dining in, so we ate in our car. Since there is definitely space in the store, it would have been nice to have one or two tables or chairs to enjoy the shaved ice for people who live farther away, since the ice desserts melt quickly. The interior was very Hawaii themed and I loved the ice cube block sticking out from the wall. Service was friendly but there were mistakes with our order of halo-halo and mais con hielo. When we went to pickup for some reason my halo-halo was "no beans" and the mais con hielo came with vanilla ice cream instead of the mango we ordered. They remade the halo halo and apologized, but I genuinely wonder if our order was either inputted incorrectly or mixed up with someone else. I love that there was a choice of mango ice cream for the halo-halo as ube ice cream is not my favorite. The halo-halo was decent, as well as the mais con hielo. I was in the mood for more than syrup and ice which is why I did not order the Hawaiian shaved ice, but maybe next time I'll try their namesake item since the flavors looked yummy. Prices were medium for the portion, $5-10 each.

Yelp
This is definitely a genuine Hawaiian shaved ice place. Nothing says authentic like lifted 'Yotas in the lot and a kid working at the front. The flavors were exactly as I've found on Hawai'i. We ordered lychee, mango, and pineapple Hawai'ian shaved ice with vanilla ice cream and topped with sweetened condensed milk. For a regular (which should be classified as a large) was $9.50 and almost too big for two adults. It was very sweet and melted quite quickly. Couldn't exactly taste the lychee or sweetened condensed milk but the mango and pineapple were strong flavors. Ice cream was a great balance. Summary: genuine, family-owned Hawai'ian shaved ice that has huge portions and is perfect for a hot summer day!

Yelp
I'm going out on a limb here by declaring this as MAINLAND HAWAII !!! I can't think of any other place I've been who has made SHAVE ICE as good as here that wasn't in Hawaii. So, rather than spend hundreds of dollars on airfair, lodging and transportation to get Shave Ice.... I can drive here locally and get that same ALOHA MAHOLO spirit and experience right in the South Bay Beach Cities area of So Cal. Yes... they also have GRAPE syrup flavor, which is my favorite. It's easy parking and fast service. I think they'd do well with another store in Torrance or Gardena (a bit closer to me for my convenience)... or even in the Beach Cities of Redondo, Hermosa or Manhattan along the strand, if they were ever to expand or relocate.

Yelp
My roommate was craving a halo-halo. We checked a SoCal Filipino social media group spot, and this place was recommended. AMBIANCE: Parking: Plaza parking; it's lowkey limited, so just a heads up. Seating: Limited seating. Basically a bench for maybe 4 cars. Vibes: You're off the Carson strip but it's a busy and neighborly place. The spot itself takes pride in their various selections and flavors of food. It has some fun aesthetics to set a calm and fun tone. Not much seating space so it's great to grab and go and continue out your daily adventure FOOD: Halo halo - mango/ube ice cream (Recommend) I was indecisive of picking between the two ice creams so I got half and half. I enjoyed the mix of shaved ice, condensed milk, jelly, coconut, ube jam, beans, and cornflakes. Not too sweet but pretty delicious. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great people. They were friendly and quick with our order. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Awesome! Great prices, wide selections, and delicious desserts. Carson is lucky to have a spot like this. The flavors from their ice cream and shaved ice really do remind me of Hawaii. TIPS: * Portions can be pretty generous, especially the acai bowl. Get ready to split.

Yelp
Fantastic flavors that you can even get customized. Traditional Hawaiian shaved ice with friendly service

Bree L.

Yelp
I been craving Hawaiian Ice for a while now so I thought I'll take a drive here. It was my first time here at Tasty Block. The shave ice is so delicious. I the ice is so soft and the flavors are so delicious. Not too sweet or sour just right! I highly recommend. I will be coming back. The service was great and the ambience is cute.

Nina G.

Yelp
Great, I loved it big for the pri e very friendly people. I will be going again soon. Different was to enjoy yourself

Maricel J.

Yelp
Friendly staffs, good service. Place well kept clean. Lots of flavors for the shave ice. I always come here to get my halo halo & mais con yelo fix.

Mando M.

Yelp
Ambience is great. The workers were friendly. The food seems authentic, and all the workers were seem to be Hawaiian, which I loved.

Jonathan W.

Yelp
In a small plaza with parking Takes credit card Pineapple ice cream regular $5, large $7. Dole whip float $8- taste like Disneyland. maybe a little more tart. Halo Halo with ube ice cream or mango ice cream $8- there's a lot of ice, not that much filling, condensed milk. I wish there was more condensed milk, and more ice cream.

risa y.

Yelp
We love it here! Super awesome staff and yummy ice cream and shaved ice! The servings are great too! Can't wait to go back again!

Jenn G.

Yelp
Aloha! I love Hawaii and sure am looking forward to visiting once again in the future. It's been quite hot in LA lately and when I saw some lovely pictures on Instagram featuring Tastyblock Hawaiian; I knew I had to check this place out. If I can't go to Hawaii; why not get a taste of Hawaii on a perfectly hot day in California? :) One of things I noticed is the treats here consist of a mix of Filipino and Hawaiian. From the Filipino side; they offer Halo Halo (a Filipino shaved ice) as well as Mais Con Yelo (a Filipino sweet corn shaved ice). From the Hawaiian side; they offer Lappert's Hawaii Ice Cream as well as Dole Whip. One can get scoops of ice cream or different shaved ice here. My mom and I chose to get the Halo halo and Dole Whip. Both were $8. The Dole Whip comes at different price points starting with a regular for $6 and ending at $8 for a Dole Whip Float. I have to say I was a little bit surprised at the prices and did think $8 was a bit on the high end for both. This location is a bit away from other places that have similar offerings and thus I think this is why the slightly steep prices. They currently don't have anywhere to dine in but there is a bench outside where you can eat your treats. They are also practice social distancing. They ask that you go outside to wait for your order and they give you a pager once your order is ready. My mom's Halo Halo was topped with Ube ice cream while my dole whip had plenty of pineapple ice cream. Both were pretty refreshing and were a nice treat for a hot day. Overall both of our treats were good and did give a nice taste of Hawaii in California. Nothing beats Hawaii though ;).

Nikki O.

Yelp
This place is so cool and the shaved ice is perfect. We have been trying to find something local so glad this is close by. They have different flavors to choose from plus they also have different flavors of ice cream to add to your shaved ice. I ended up trying the Grape, Hawaiian Punch, and Green Apple in mine and it was delicious. I forgot to put ice cream so that will have to be next time. I added condensed milk also and that topped it off. The portions they give are unbelievable. Also, for the price. Definitely, a bang for your buck. Since they are so close, we will be back and may be visiting all of summer.

Trisha D.

Yelp
Good shaved ice with ice cream. And friendly service. Felt a little pricy but I did get add ons. Wasn't my favorite in SoCal and I've had better in Hawaii. But maybe I need to try different flavors next time. Passion fruit/lychee/guava with pineapple dole, condensed milk on top: good, regular cup was big enough for 2-3 people. Favorite part is the dole ice cream. They seemed to have good unique ice cream flavors. Next time I would consider adding fruits as well. Service: when I asked for an extra cup, they were super helpful. It wasn't busy in the middle of the day in weekday so service was fast. Parking: easy in plaza, but the road is uneven.

Louis P.

Yelp
Live this little spot, especially on a hot day. Ive tried w few things off the menu, my fav has been the filipino treat Halo-Halo. Ive also tried The California which was suggested by the owner/staff. That was something new for me, avocado with sweets but enjoyed that as well. If you in the area, stop by and try it, i suggest this over other corporate places.

Natalie D.

Yelp
We've been saving for a return trip to Hawaii; it was before the Pandemic when last I was there.  As the date got closer, I found myself craving shaved ice, so I used Yelp to track down someplace I could get some locally.   The app led me to Tastyblock, and I couldn't have been happier :-) Walking in my first impression of the venue is that it's clean, cute, and inviting.  Needless to say, I ordered some shaved ice and found that the taste was very satisfying and the portion size is more than generous, with very reasonable prices. With my craving for shaved ice now totally satisfied, it'll be easier to wait until we're ready to head back to Hawaii - in the interim, I have no doubt I'll return.

Mendel Y.

Yelp
Had some really high hopes for this place. Serving Lapperts, such high ratings and people calling it the best shaved ice on the main land. I guess my expectations were built up too high but overall I felt the serving size, the cost and the ice shaving "fine ness" was just not there. Had the Passion Fruit and Strawberry (as traditional as can be) and was overall just disappointed. After seeing all of the beautiful, ice block shavers decorating the tables in the waiting area I really thought this place would bring back some amazing memories from Wailoa as I walked there as a kid. Not so much, it was okay and all but just did not live up to the reviews or what I expected.

Allan B.

Yelp
Just came from the beach and decided to come here. The place is very welcoming, very clean. The young lady that rang me up was nice. There's a long bench to sit on & Hawaiian music being played while you wait for your order.I ordered the Halo Halo and Rootbear float for the wife.Halo2 was good compared to the other ones that I've tried but the wife didn't like hers. I might come back for the halo2 and try the mais con Yelo if I'm in the area.

Nica C.

Yelp
Delicious dole whip Large selection of flavors that taste great Good service SUPPORT LOCAL! great family owned spot with delicious frozen treats. Customer service is always fast & friendly. & The quality of our order is always spot on.

Teresa D.

Yelp
We used to come here a lot since we lived in Carson n my kids went to school there, nearby. Unfortunately, we have moved but occasionally visit them. The ice is shaved fine n there are many flavors to choose from. The Maiz con Yelo is good. The Halo Halo is not too sweet. The ice cream from Hawaii has quality. The Açaí Bowl is also one of our favorite. I just wish that the male owner can be more pleasant n that they are consistent with their store hours. My in laws n I have gone there several times during store hours but was closed. :( However, overall, we still take the liking in them.

Anthony C.

Yelp
After coming back from Hawaii, we had a craving for some hawaiian shaved ice and dole whip. This place absolutely broke da mout. Their shaved ice is on-par with what you might get on the island. Great flavors, and I love the fact that they have a variety of little add-on toppings that are complimentary. The dole whip was good too, but maybe a little thinner in consistency for my liking. Overall though, just really tasty, and my mouth is watering thinking about their shaved ice.

Selyna M.

Yelp
The absolute closest shave ice to the Hawaii real Deal, and dare I say, even better?! the only bad thing I have to say (which is not even bad) is WHY do I have to live so far away from here? Open another a little more south please, like HB!! lol. Tastyblock will fulfill your sweet tooth shave (without the D!!!) ice craving and possibly more. I've been to Tastyblock and had their dole whip more times than I can count (even got small dole whip cups for both my baby showers and daughters 1st bday) and they never disappoint. The key to great shave ice, IMHO, is the texture of the ice and syrup flavors - tastyblock knocks it out of the park with both. You can get your typical snow cone flavors, broke da mouth island flavors, but also they have cultural sweets like Halo-Halo (#filipinopride) and a version of Chinese/Taiwanese Baobing (shave ice, condensed milk, & fresh fruit ahhh drooling as I type this)! Please keep doing what you're doing, TB - can not WAIT for my next South Bay shave ice run!

Sandi J.

Yelp
Great place! Got some shaved ice with ice cream both were really good and great taste

Mmmm M.

Yelp
Great staff and the owners are just wonderful! It's a small kine ice cream/shaved ice place. Lots of yummies on the menu. They have a shaved ice truck too!

Aj A.

Yelp
Like Disneyland? Ever had Dole Whip? Want it NOW? but don't have a ticket? This is the place that will quench your need. They make it SPOT ON. Their selections of flavors and ice cream are excellent also. They even carry and mad good HALO HALO. Follow your sweetooth and frequent this place as much as you can!

Ann G.

Yelp
Brought home mais con yelo and halo halo for my family. I got the rainbow shave ice with ice cream and topped with condensed milk. All delicious and refreshing.

Melvin F.

Yelp
This place has so much good stuff. But first...Dole whip! That's all I need to say. Where else can you find that Dole whip when you get one of those cravings. Everytime family comes to visit we stop by here because they love shaved ice!

Valerie B.

Yelp
Kids love their shave ice. Flavors they love are Root beer, cola, blue cotton candy and grape. Also if u love filipino desserts, gotta have halo halo. So ono on hot days of summer

Jamie D.

Yelp
Close shave ice to Hawaii shave ice! The customer service is always good, and luckily every time I go, there isn't a long wait. What I appreciate the most is that they sell Lappert's ice cream and they use harder's!!!!

Anne L.

Yelp
I had a $8 halo halo shaved ice. Bit pricing, but good. This is a takeout place on lo y with 2 tables to sit. I wish the price could be more reasonsble.

Michele P.

Yelp
If there was an award for the best customer service in town, then this shop's owners/employees would DEFINITELY win it. When I walked into the shop with two of my kids, I was immediately greeted by a very warm welcome and as I contemplated my order I was met with a lot of patience as well as helpful tips on what to get. Side note: The bathroom is out of order/closed for Covid-19 and when my young son said that he had to go to the bathroom in the middle of me ordering, the employee let me use their bathroom without any hesitation, stating that she understands and that she has kids too. After receiving my order in a to go bag and heading out so that I could eat with my kids on the curb outside, the shop owner came out and asked if I wanted them to bring out a bench so that we could sit more comfortably. They stated that they were closing and needed to do some cleanup so it would take a little while and we could sit and eat in the meantime. This customer service was above and beyond! The shaved iced was great!

Thalia N.

Yelp
Best shaved ice I like to go here all the time Portions huge, prices perfect Red dragon, blue Hawaii are very good Ice cream is super smooth They put the ice cream inside the shaved ice which is super cool The service is 10/10 The music is very island top 40s which is fun

Stephen L.

Yelp
Fantastic, fluffy, shave ice with outstanding fresh syrups and hard-to-find creamy, rich Lapperts ice cream. Made us feel like we were back on the islands There will likely be a wait because everyone knows how great their stuff is, be patient and you'll be rewarded!

Juno M.

Yelp
I've been going to this place for years, and I will continue to go here, for these reasons: They always give a great amount of flavoring, in other Hawaiian shaved ice places, they give too much ice and too little flavoring. To the point where it gets boring to eat. The people here are really nice, never had a problem with any ody being rude to me.. They don't just have shaved ice, oh no no no. They got ice cream too, delicious btw Now, onto the things that can be a pain sometimes.. Usually only one person working. The most I've seen working here is 3 people. And that only happened once, since there's usually other people in line, and usually one person working; it may take a while sometimes to get your order. Most of the time they don't stick to their hours. I used to go here after school and I would be very excited for some shaved ice on a hot day. But guess what? Theyve closed early.

Janessa R.

Yelp
This place was kind of a drive for me, but I highly recommend this little hole in the wall. We had a saved ice with a snow cap and a shaved ice with a dole whip center, both were amazing.

Luis C.

Yelp
Incredible shaved ice. A true authentic Hawaiin gem. Vanilla ice cream base with b strawberry shaved ice with snow top(condensed milk) is truly incredible. A must try for all.

Ifrah S.

Yelp
Delicious Dole whip and ice cream! I have no complaints about that. Looks like they had good COVID protocol in place with a buzzer so you can wait outside for your order. I only had one complaint, and that's customer service related.. I walked in and the store was empty, but both workers were busy making online orders... I stood at the counter (and they saw me, even came to the counter to accept an online order) but not once did either of them acknowledge that i was standing there waiting. I had no problem waiting, I understand places are short-staffed etc ... I would have appreciated if they just acknowledged us and said even "Hi, we'll be right with you" anything of that sort. That's why I gave it 4 stars.

Czarina V.

Yelp
Got halo-halo takeout on a scorching hot afternoon and it was probably the best decision I made today. This version is exactly what I was craving for--sans the sweetened plantain which is normally a halo-halo must. The shaved ice was perfectly soft and fine and it blended well with all the other ingredients. This version is also not sickeningly sweet.

Helen Y.

Yelp
Best shave ice I've had in Cali. The ice is cut so fine and the flavors, ice cream, and condensed milk make for a very refreshing and cool treat! The summer months are so hot that I've tried many different shave ice places, but this by far is the closest you'll get to Hawaii. There are seats inside for you to enjoy your shave ice. The facility is clean and directions are visible so that you know how to order. Will definitely be back.

Liliana R.

Yelp
Love this place! Menu is great, they have a good variety of flavors. Very good. Fast service as well.

Iosua O.

Yelp
Great service, true to the "Aloha Spirit" through and through, i strongly recommend the dole whip. Better than Disney's and cheaper too

Letty D.

Yelp
I have so many allergies to artificial colors this place I can eat any flavor thank you

Gigi G.

Yelp
The shave ice here is fantastic! The syrups are flavorful and the ube macapuno ice cream was delicious. Definitely

Sunny C.

Yelp
Tastyblock has been our new favorite dessert place in the last couple of weeks. We've ordered the Dole Whip, Dole Whip float, Halo Halo with ube ice cream, halo halo with mango ice cream, and the Mais Con Yelo, but the Halo Halo with ube ice cream, and the dole whip are our favorites. The service is subpar, but the prices are great, and it's really great to have a hawaiian shaved ice location in the South Bay area.

Floyd Y.

Yelp
I ordered Halo-halo (Filipino dessert) with Ube ice cream on top. Gotta say that it's way better than what you would get from other Filipino establishments. Customer service is excellent. The workers are super nice and friendly. I would definitely come back again.

Kikuchiyo S.

Yelp
The pandemic has changed all of our lives for better or for worse. I know things are tough for everyone and it's not easy to say anything about establishments writing reviews. We have places with people working who have lost close family members. Businesses were destroyed and I really don't want to say anything negative. The owner took my order this time and I just can't help but think if he's going through this deep depression. He doesn't even look me in the eye and he takes my order with his head hung low doesn't greet me just a monotone voice and emotionless face. I almost felt seriously inclined to ask him if he was ok, I don't understand if it's his way of normally behaving or if he is seriously just struggling. I love your business buddy I hope you find the strength to pull through whatever it is you're going through.

Jane S.

Yelp
Finally discovered a good shave ice store in the South Bay, since many others have fallen by the wayside. We found Tastyblock in Carson and had a taste of Hawaii. Good selection of flavors, but now that I know how much syrup the used at my first visit, I will ask for a touch more syrup next time as it was just short of making it a great shave ice. When not enough syrup, you have to wait till it melts enough to eat it like a slushy. Glad we found this place an will be back again.

Eletrek O.

Yelp
Tried calling in an order. The lady was very rude, hung up on me twice. They need to be trained and educated.
