"Westsiders often subjugate themselves to hour-long waits for Din Tai Fung’s xiaolongbao when Tasty Noodle House is ready to receive them with solid dumplings and zero lines. Call it a hack or just a thoughtful alternative, but this SGV mini-chain is where to go when you want solid XLBs stat. The generously stuffed soup dumplings are just fine, but prioritize Tasty Noodle’s flaky scallion pancakes, poached fish submerged in Sichuan chili oil, and grilled Shanghai beef buns that arrive charred and crispy but fluffy inside." - brant cox, sylvio martins, arden shore, cathy park

"Tasty Noodle House is a mini-chain from the SGV that once had a few restaurants around LA, but now all that’s left is their Sawtelle location. We’re not complaining, though, because it’s a solid Shanghainese option on the Westside not named Din Tai Fung (translation: no two-hour waits for xiao long bao). The XLB at this tiny shop admittingly aren’t as good as the ones at DTF, but stick to its strengths—flaky scallion pancakes, poached fish submerged in chili oil, and the Shanghai grilled beef buns with better char marks than most steaks—and you’ll have a great meal. Plus, you won’t have to wait for a table to open up." - Sylvio Martins
"Another SGV transplant (when it comes to Chinese food, that neighborhood is number one for a reason), Tasty Noodle House also has locations on W. 3rd and Sawtelle. Personally, we prefer the second. Although rich in Japanese options, this neighborhood—and the Westside at large—doesn’t have many Chinese options, aside from the big, shiny Din Tai Fung that presides over the Westfield mall. This tiny shop specializes in the flavors of Dalian, a coastal city in northeastern China, which translates into a variety of potent seafood dishes, like jellyfish in spring scallion oil and stir-fried sea snail. You’ll also need buttery scallion pancakes, the enormous beef noodle soup, and juicy pan-fried dumplings that remind us of a Doja Cat song. Bring friends. " - fiona chandra, kat hong

"I noted Tasty Noodle House’s expansion into West LA as another sign that traditional, mid-priced Chinese restaurants are moving into central parts of the city and finding success with a wider customer base." - Emily J. Wilson
