Where to Try Columbus-Style Pizza in Ohio

"Credited with introducing pizza to the city in 1934, this long-running family restaurant remains in the hands of descendants who still produce signature pies in a venerable deck oven that a current family member insists on operating personally. The dining room, hung with portraits of past generations, remains a gathering place for families and loyal regulars, preserving a deep-rooted red-sauce and square-cut pizza tradition that anchors the community’s culinary history." - Wendy Pramik

Always great to dine in classic italian family owned restaurants and TAT Ristorante Di Famiglia doesn’t disappoint. Located in the Linwood area of Mid East Cols, this family has been running their restaurant business for over 96 years and they are still going strong. We ordered the usual fare of pasta with soup, salad and bread which were all great especially the soups and the roast peppers. But what caught my eye and really enjoyed were the chicken livers. I ordered fried (can get it sautéed) and the breading was great. I know it is an acquired taste, but hey, for all of you that love ‘em, come here! You won’t be disappointed. (See pics for more comments) The owners are great hosts. They chatted with us as well as with other diners. They do banquets as well and they have a big room in their restaurant for this. Decent prices for the amount and quality of food you get, but if you come in between 3:30pm to 6pm (Wed to Sat), you can avail of their early bird pricing. Service was polite and quick. Ample parking. There is a lot of history in this restaurant/family. Come for the great food and chat with the owners if you can. Highly recommended!

Classic family-owned Italian restaurant with excellent food and service, including homemade pasta. and sauces. The daily special was $17.95 for a four-course meal! Choice of minestrone or Italian wedding soup, delicious salad with awesome Italian dressing, many choices for entree, and dessert. Friendly waiter, happy vibe among the customers. Great place for Italian comfort food!

We read an article about the best pizza places in Columbus. We happened to be in the area so we thought we would try it. What a fantastic place. Friendly staff with the owner on site. We asked about the name TAT and the founder’s granddaughter came to our table giving us a history of the restaurant. You certainly don’t get that at the chain pizza places. We started with a bowl of minestrone soup that was very tasty. Ordered a specialty pizza, the godfather, which only came in large sized. Absolutely delicious!! Took a piece of chocolate cake home along with half of the pizza. Loaded edge to edge with veggies, cheese, and meat. We liked the corn meal crunchy texture on the bottom. Not a soggy pizza like some places. But a nice crispy crust but not like you’d crack a tooth. Lots of parking available. We will be back to try some other menu items.

I wanted to try this place due to all the good reviews. They all let me down. Not only was the food barely above a beginner chef quality. The service was downright rude, questions were met with eye rolls, and refills weren't a thing. Then we got the bill and for 4 adults and a child we were charged large party gratuity which wasn't posted and we were charged the wrong price for an appetizer. I would of been better off going to Olive garden and paying half the price for food I would of at least finished.

I stopped in for business, and ended up staying for the early bird special. It was a spectacular value. 10/10 I do recommend. It was a full four course meal; I started with soup of choice, then a salad with a nice choice of dressings. I almost couldn't choose there were so many good options. After those, I had chosen the Seafood Alfredo as the main dish on the waitstaff's recommendation. Again there were many good options to choose from, I was spoiled for excellent choices. It proved to be my favorite thing. It was rich, creamy, and hot. It also had bay scallops in it along with the other seafood, which I personally love. I had to take much of it home. (Protip: reheat slowly with a little milk and it's perfect like when it came out) The dessert choices were simple I remember, but almost unnecessary. And for the value of what came before, I wasn't dismayed at all and pickeda nice sorbet. The only even tiny critique I would give was the timing of course presentation. There were plenty of tables, and I felt slightly rushed when I hadn't gotten through half of one course before the next was presented. But, that's personal preference I realize. I'm a slow eater, I like to savor the experience. Given this, I try to go when places aren't busy so I'm not taking up a valuable table space for a long time during heavy business. Being that this was preference, of course I still gave above the expected gratuity. The staff was very nice all in all, and the recommendations were valued. I paired my meal with a bottle of peroni, my favorite Italian beer. I was happy they had it, as well as the orange and lime slice I like to pair it with. I paid ~$27 for this wonderful dining experience with a 27% tip included. A four course meal, an imported beverage, good service, and a quality atmosphere. I highly recommend stopping by TaT's if you're in the area. There was a ton of options that looked good on the menu, and if the early bird special is any indication of the rest, I promise you won't be disappointed with their dine in our carry out.

Great food. My wife went here as a little girl, and we went here today as an early birthday dinner. The food was amazing. We will visit again.

A wonderful family owned restaurant. Had reservations but showed up early. Drinks were given to enjoy during our wait. When seated, our waitress was awesome. Food was brought out quickly and was great. Great atmosphere as well. Highly recommend.
