Tata's Tacos Review - Portage Park - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Tata’s Tacos in Portage Park describes their au-jus consommé as “down and dirty,” and we're not ashamed to admit that’s how we looked after we finished eating their birria tacos. Tata’s sears their tortillas in the consommé, which gives the tacos an extra flavor boost. In addition to the cheesy birria, they offer at least a dozen types of tacos, including The Tux, a seared scallop and ribeye taco, and the Jibarito which is served on a plantain tortilla." - Jessica Rome

Google
Al and his crew were very friendly. Ask about their rewards card, rewards for eating good food is a no brainer. Al also offered soup and chips n salsa while waiting for my order. I will definitely return to try other items, parking can be tricky. Fish taco was good, tostada shells were fresh and warm.

I couldn’t wait for the picture and just HAD to take a bite out of the *mulita de carne asada* 🤤 The food was delicious and I was happy to see that they had my favorita Mexican drink: Sangria Señorial. The adobada was nice and crunchy, and the green salsa was a nice add on, which adds flavor and isn’t spicy, it’s basically tomatillo sauce. Definitely recommend! This food truck is inside the the Tire/alignment/brake auto shop, fyi.

I'm working on one of the local construction projects and have been wasting my time and money on the local fast food for lunch. When the entire time this incredible food was right there. The owner was energetic and welcoming and the food was top notch. As a former Mexican food exec chef, I couldn't think on anything to improve. This will be my new go-to. Great work Tata's!

Yelp
Tiny, unassuming food truck in a tire shop parking lot. Definitely coming back for the adobada torta. The lady was nice and told me they had daily specials.

Yelp
Decided to stop by this taco truck today since the one I usually go to wasn't available. The lady that took my order was so sweet! I ordered the 2 fish tacos combo which came with a soda for $7! The fish tacos were delicious! They have so much variety on their menu. Mulitas, quesadillas, carne asada fries! Definitely coming back here!

Yelp
This is a family-run taco truck operating out of the Tire World parking lot in City Heights. It has a special place in my heart because it was opened in honor of the owner's late father, who passed from COVID in 2021. Of the several items I've tried, I always go back to the adobada because it's perfectly cooked, flavorful, and without excessive fat and gristle. My son raves about the bacon-wrapped hotdogs here. I recently noticed you can now get fries or chips with your choice of meat (carne asada, adobada, pollo, birria) and there's also an expanded seafood menu with ceviche and different variations of shrimp and fish tacos. I find it most convenient to call in my order and take it home but they do have tables and chairs under a shaded awning. Lastly, this business offers catering for events so if you're looking for delicious food and enjoy supporting local business, give them a call!

Yelp
We drove by here all the time when we eat across the street at Pho Hoa and it's always busy. Finally gave it a try. It's in the parking lot of the tire place. The menu is simple and limited and seems like the price has gone up a few bucks since the last photo posted on Yelp a month ago. We got two fish tacos ($3 ea), California burrito ($11), and adobada burrito ($11). The burritos were dry for us but the fish tacos made up for it. It was fully loaded with a huge chunk of battered fish. They gave lots of limes and salsa. They have taco Tuesday but I didn't catch the price. They also have combo meals like 2 fish tacos and a drink for $7. Basically paying a $1 for a drink. Or 3 mini tacos and a drink for $11, paying $0.50 for a drink.

Yelp
W H O A. I see this truck sporadically on my drive from home, parked on Riverford. After seeing the word tortas blasted in my face over the various occasions they'd be there.. I called my husband and told him I was bringing him lunch. I ordered two carne asada tacos and one carne asada torta with no onions. While I waited, I filled up my condiment cups with their red sauce and chipotle sauce. It took about 5min and off I went on my 10min journey to my husband's work. Even after the brief wait... my torta was amazinggggg! The bolillo roll was soft but crispy and buttered I believe. The ham and cheese were crispy and melty. They packkkkked the torta with carne asada and topped it with avocado. Honestly..... it was the best torta I've ever had. It was literally that good. I tried to stop at the halfway point but i didn't happen. I considered it for a brief second but only a second. And I'm so glad i did. Cause I'd gladly ruin my dinner with an amazing torta, during an unexpected lunch run. It was soooo worth it.

Yelp
I had a pretty good Adobada Burrito from this food truck. The burrito was of medium size and came well filled with seasoned and marinated pork. The meat was tender and tasty. I asked the girl who making the burrito if it came with avocado or guacamole and she said yes, but she forgot to put in the burrito. I was really looking forward to the avocado with the adobada, it's almost synonymous with this type of meat. Anyways, at $9, it was a tasty burrito and filling as well. They use a very good quality flour tortilla for the burritos. The pico de gallo was good, I liked that the white cheese melted nicely in the burrito. The guacamole would of been just grand in this burrito. The two ladies running the truck were very nice. They also make breakfast burritos, in addition to their street tacos and mulitas.

Yelp
Wow, El Pastor Taco is to die for. You can taste the char from its great flavoring. Quesataco was another must-try taco. The cheese melted so well inside the tacos and had great flavoring on the carne asada. The rolled tacos were amazing!! Tight rolled, SUPER crisp outside, tender & juicy on the inside. On point!!!!

Yelp
The truck was parked outside of Fall Brewing in North Park so we were more than happy to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised at how good everything tasted and the portion to price ratio was fantastic. We ordered a pork torta and carne asada fries to accompany our beer, both were great tasting and more than enough for 2 people. Not sure if we'll be able to catch the truck again, but if you see it, make sure to give it a try! @yumbumfun

Yelp
I love Tata's Tacos. My boss and I usually stop here and grab a bite after we get an alignment on one of our project vehicles at Tire World. They share the same corner lot on Euclid and El Cajon Blvd. We have enjoyed the Fish Tacos at Tata's many different times. Honestly the Fish Tacos are freaking fantastic in every way. I completely recommend this food truck. Always really good service. Quick and easy to find location. I like that you can sit outside under the shade and enjoy your meal.

Yelp
Was given a business card to this new spot that just opened up January 2022, decided to come by and check it out. It is a taco truck that sits on a very busy street of El Cajon Blvd. just down the street after getting off from, highway 15. It is located in the same parking lot as Tire World and owned by the same owner. The Taco Truck is in honor of "Alfonso Torres," the owner's father who passed away in August 2021 due to COVID-19. Alfonso's picture is located all around the taco truck in "cartoon form" in remembrance. The menu is very simple and includes burritos, tortas, mulitas, mini tacos and a quesataco with your choice of meats (carne asada, adobada, pollo or birria). They also offer taco de pescado and camaron. We opt for carne asada tacos, carne asada burrito with everything (cheese, pico and guac) and the combo especial, 2 Tacos de pescado and soda for $5.00! The staff was very professional and ready to take our order as soon as we knew what we wanted to order. The fish taco's were cooked perfectly with a side of chipotle sauce provided, to give it that extra kick. We learned that the chef is from Sonora, Mexico and the recipe is from her home. It took me back to eating fish tacos in Tucson, as Tucson is very well known for Sonoran Mexican Food. It was amazing to see that and taste the flavors in this dish. The carne asada flavor was cooked perfect and was smaller chunks of meat for easier chewing and flavorful. Will definitely be back, was informed to try the torta's next and am super curious about their birria as the quesataco looks bomb. They offer canned sodas (pepsi brand) as well as Mexican Sodas and water. Definitely give this place a try, the combos are a steal deal and everyday. Was informed that the hours may vary depending on how busy they are, I did not see hours posted but was informed it could be 5pm or 6pm, just varies. (I've come to realize since COVID this is a new thing for restaurants too)... Also there is a $0.75 charge if you use your credit card... otherwise bring cash. They do get busy during lunch time and even around 2pm, when we came but luckily there is street parking available as well as parking on the other side of the truck. Don't forget you can call-in your food orders and just come, pay, pickup and leave or you can enjoy the covered seating they provide... especially on a hot day like today was!

Yelp
Excellent and a wide variety. One of the better Mexican food trucks in the county. These roadside stops are the gems of America.

Yelp
Tata's Tacos did a nice and amazing job at our event. They are professional and cleaned up after. Most of all, their food was exceptionally delicious. There are so many choices living in this city but you must try their birria queso tacos. Hands down this was the best I've ever had. I'll tell you a story that makes Tata's my go to. I have a kid that's a really picky eater. We had over 100 guests and Tata's was swamped. They stopped everything to go out of their way to make something my kid would eat. So for that reason, I will always support this small business. 100% about the people.

Yelp
I hired them to cater for a party and tacos were good salsa was very good but they were kind of slow I had a big line of people it was only one lady serving the tacos. Overall people did like the tacos just had some people complained she was slow. Sorry On the other hand the reason why I'm giving them 3 stars it's because I recently went to try a carne asada burrito and it was small and no flavor, meat was dry and just onions and cilantro for $10 dlls.
google avatar

Yelp
I always get food here while they do work on my car! Probably one of the best adobada burritos I've had. Also tried the hot dog and that was great as well. Definitely give them a try if you are on the fence!

Marissa B.

Yelp
Cannot go wrong with their adobada! So delicious! The red salsa is a MUST!!!! I like to get Keto tacos every once in awhile. Just ask and they will accommodate:)

Yelp
The burrito was the same size as a water bottle. So damn small. Size matters with burritos. The meat was dry tasted like it was a day old. Asked for everything barely got any onion and cilantro in the tacos.

Yelp
Food was well cooked. It needed a little more flavor. Very convenient location. The staff provides very friendly service.

Yelp
Super authentic tacos! The Quesataco Burria is excellent and the tacos de Cameron are fresh and perfectly fried

Yelp
I found Tatas Tacos and Tortas on tiktok/Instagram and I'm so glad I did! They catered our party of 50. They responded super quick and we're so kind/professional. The food was absolutely amazing! If you're looking for food that has that homemade feel, this is the place to hire for your party! Even our kids enjoyed it. Will absolutely be going back to them for our future events. Thank you guys again for the great food.

Yelp
After my foot doctor appointment I came upon this hard-to-miss bright orange food truck parked right on the corner of El Cajon Blvd and Euclid and decided to give it a try. Ordered two Adobada Quesatacos and decided to enjoy them there. I had forgotten to tell them to not put cilantro in the tacos BECAUSE I HATE CILANTRO! But they did and it was My Bad. Picked the offending cilantro out and sat down to a feast for my taste buds!! The pork was succulent and melded nicely with the cheese and the whole meal was delightful. Loved the little cup of cabbage soup they give you as an appetizer too! Will make it a New Tradition to stop there after I get my feet done!! Will try the Shrimp Tacos next time!!

Yelp
DELIIIIIISH birria burrito, homemade tortillas shine, perfectly juicy and so flavorful

Yelp
Ate at their food truck. It was busy, but not that busy. Waited for over an our for the adobada fries, they were cold and unsalted. They had maybe 3 people in total working, which in a truck is a tight space. But the older woman who took our order and served the food was very short and grumpy with everyone.

Yelp
DELICIOUS fish tacos and ceviche de pescado. 10/10 Never fails to deliver great taste at an affordable price

Miriam B.

Yelp
First of all small ass fucking burrito for $10 and not only did I ask no onions but it's like I asked for extra onions ...

Yelp
Tata's catered my friends 50th birthday! The food was delicious and the owner Albert was very friendly and professional.

Yelp
Met owner at Sycuan Street Market. Super friendly family owned business. Owner gave my 2 year old some bomb crackers. My wife and I ordered a Carne and shrimp burrito and 2 pastor tacos. Food was amazing and made with care. Generous amounts of meat and shrimp put together evenly ...not slapped together like some places do. Would definitely eat here again if I ever see their truck again

John B.
