Tatte Bakery & Cafe Expands to Downtown Boston - Eater Boston

"Fandom for Tatte Bakery & Cafe gains another new outlet for its affection today as the ever-growing local chain opens the first of two planned locations in downtown Boston. Tatte Summer Street makes its formal debut on Monday, January 7, unveiling its classic white-tiled interior, precise pastries piled high behind glass, and a comfort food-filled seasonal menu. The new Tatte spans more than 4,000 square feet, sporting the familiar booth and communal table seating along with some high-top seating at a marble counter. Tatte serves a range of items, including tartines, egg sandwiches, and Jerusalem bagels, as well as salads, sandwiches, and shakshuka. Tatte Summer Street operates daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m." - Dana Hatic

Tatte Bakery & Cafe Plans Downtown Boston Location - Eater Boston

"Tatte opened its Fenway bakery last October and followed with Back Bay in January, after which Or kept the momentum rolling, announcing plans for Seaport barely two weeks later. In May, she dropped the news of Northeastern’s Tatte, which is slated to open in August at 360 Huntington Ave. Once the Seaport, Northeastern, and Summer Street locations open, Tatte’s 11 bakeries will cover a broad swath of Boston and Cambridge." - Dana Hatic

I ordered a black sesame latte, Jerusalem bagel, and a tiramisu. Never had a Jerusalem bagel so I was very curious, and it was good! Has a very cozy yet lively vibes. Love all the interior designs. Would have to come back to try more things! Service wasn’t too bad.

Food was good. Condiments like salt and pepper were disgusting. The little shakers were sticky with something on them. Just gross. Bathroom was clean and stocked. Lines moved. Somewhat pricey. Not a lot of seating. People tend to hangout after finishing their meal. You order at the register and they bring your food to you. No parking at all.

This Tatte is always bustling because of its location. It can be hard to get a table sometimes because of the traffic, but you’ll typically find groups of people hanging out over pastries and coffee. You can also work here, but it can get loud. It is spacious and bright. There are tons of drink and food options, from pastries to lunch/breakfast plates. The pastries are good, but not the best that I’ve had in Boston (mom-and-pop bakeries are typically better than chains). After you order, you will get a number for your table. The staff will bring your order out for you, but you clean up after yourself.

Love the spacious and convenient location across the South Street station. It’s the perfect place to grab a quick snack or meal to go before boarding the bus or train. The mushroom flat bread is delicious. Very generous with the mushrooms assortment, also has potatoes and the fragrant thyme takes it to the next level. Looking forward to trying more next time!

Delicious food. Great service. Really nice cafe right outside south station. Can get very busy during lunch. Dont really recommend the desserts, they're okay.

I was lucky enough to visit Tatte Bakery on one of my last trips to Boston where I enjoyed some of their delicious pastries, this time I decided to expand on their breakfast selections and I was certainly not disappointed as it was truly one of the Most amazing meals I have eaten!!

Google
The ambiance was delightful - a perfect blend of modern chic and cozy charm. It was an ideal spot to catch up with friends, have a moment of relaxation, or simply enjoy some "me time" with a book and a delightful treat. What truly set this coffee shop apart was the exceptional service. The staff was warm, friendly, and attentive, making sure every customer felt appreciated and taken care of. They were knowledgeable about their products and offered great recommendations to suit individual preferences.

Google
Really cute cafe. Excellent selection of pastries and food. Customer service is excellent. Service was fast. Good coffee. Honestly a really good option for breakfast or brunch or lunch. Would really recommend. This location was clean and everyone was friendly. The shakshuka is delicious.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Tatte and shakshuka, but everything was delicious! I can't speak to the authenticity of the shakshuka but I loved it and the bread it came with was also delicious. I also loved the sesame latte. The flavor was so rich. The cheesecake cup and pancakes were also very good, but not as good as the shakshuka and latte. There is plenty of seating, and the staff bring you your drink and food if you're dining in. We went around 1pm on a Saturday and the line was fairly long, 10-15 people. Food came out super fast though, maybe a 10 minute wait.

Yelp
What a perfect location for a Tatte. Right in downtown Boston in the middle of the hustle and bustle of tourists, college students, right on the cusp of the theater district, across the street from the commons, the list goes on. An absolute prime location with floor to ceiling windows that gives it such a spacious and welcoming vibe from all the natural light. I came here to WFH with a coworker and it was fabulous. Tables lining the windows allows for privacy, a view to look out at (the commons for us), and enough space for us to set up ourselves with our laptops and bags. WiFi and nearby outlets too! I got the chocolate croissant and mint lemonade (both of which I've ordered at other locations before) and the service is so friendly here. Lots of seating and space inside! A huge win for the corner!

Yelp
I am thrilled whenever I learn that Tatte has opened a new location in Greater Boston. This means that wherever my travels take me in Boston, Cambridge or Brookline, I am in easy reach of a welcoming Tatte. The ambiance and wide variety of sweet and savory treats ensures that my day will take a turn in the right direction. If I need a quick pick-me-up, a café au lait and a Jerusalem bagel fit the bill. When I have needed something more substantial, their signature shakshuka has filled up more than once. The service staff is friendly and efficient. Be prepared for a bit of a wait in line for almost every location features a steady stream of eager loyal patrons. It is always worth the wait.

Yelp
It was super modern and ethically pleasing inside. I was excited to get a latte bc of all the latte art I saw online while researching this place. Imagine my disappointment when I got my coffee in a to go cup (even though the worker asked if I was dining in/out). Then I saw a lady come in after me and she got hers in a mug so I was confused. My food was great (lamb hash). Super flavorful, gamey, and beautifully plated.

Yelp
Avoid if possible. We got the chai latte, the spinach and feta roll, and a croissant. Let me start by saying the service was SO rude, genuinely was very upset by how rude they were. They were treating us like us being there was a disservice to them despite us being paying customers. The chai latte was good, I'd recommend. Our Spinach and Feta roll came with a large piece of hair. They did change it out but it was super off putting.

Yelp
Highly recommend!! We came twice. It's always packed to the gills but so worth it. We ordered online and ate at the Pier. What a view! Get the salmon avocado breakfast sandwich. Chefs kiss! We tried several pastries. Nutella cookies and pistachio croissant. Pistachio lattes were phenomenal!! I'd drink 10

Yelp
A cute modern and minimalist cafe serving up good coffee, baked goods, and hot foods. Their traditional Shakshuka is delicious and so flavorful. The pear tart was not too sweet and was not dry at all. It was so fresh and fragrant. The place has tables of all sizes. I love the decor and vibe here. The simple black and white look is very aesthetically pleasing. The chai latte here is more tea than milk and is very light. They are a tad pricey, but well worth it!

Yelp
Spectacular Tatte location right outside of South Station-- super convenient for commuters and shoppers Downtown. Plenty of comfortable outdoor seating which is great in the summer. I enjoyed my croissant outside and my friend enjoyed her classic iced chai latte in the heart of Boston. Nothing beats it. Service was extremely speedy and staff is so friendly! Will always be a Tatte die hard.

Yelp
Decided to try the pastries at Boston's local bakery chain. There seems to be a tatte everywhere I go in the city. Pistachio croissant - super flakey and buttery. The pistachio added a nice nuttiness to it. Kouign Amann - very flakey and buttery. It's a little different than other kouign amanns I've had. This one felt a little dry. Apple Turnover - it was a solid apple turnover. The apple filling was not overly sweet.

Yelp
I fell in love with this place! It was love at first sight, the atmosphere, comfort, the smell of coffee and fresh pastries conquered me. They have their own merch, everything was aesthetically pleasing. Large selection of pastries, desserts and drinks for every taste. I will definitely come back!

Yelp
Almost nine months of working in the Financial District, going to Tatte more times than I care to admit, and I STILL haven't written a review?! I have no excuse, believe me I tried. I did go for a cappuccino once, I think, and I have no complaints other than a slight wait. However for the other probably 50 times it was a pastry. Probably a Morning Bun because those things are fantabulous! Tatte consistently has reasonable prices, fast and friendly service (for pastries), and delicious, fresh, baked goods. Because I was usually on a time crunch, I never stayed for a sit down meal, but the atmosphere is open, clean, and inviting. All these things kept me coming back again and again. While a Tatte (not this one) is now three blocks away from me rather than half, I am aching to visit. This is all thanks to this location becoming a part of my morning routine.

Taylor T.

Yelp
The vibe is sooo cute, but the food was sooo disappointing. I ordered the pistachio croissant (it was mid, chewy, and hard to bite into) and the lamb hash (it was very potato-y + the mint dressing threw the whole dish off). The cashier was nice and helpful. Overall, I would recommend if you like aesthetically pleasing items and vibes, but in reality it's not the best. There is an Asian Cafe nearby and it was 10x better.

Yelp
Yesterday morning, we headed to @tattebakery before heading to the Boston Tea Party Museum. I got Dad the Mint Lemonade, I had the Cafe au lait, and hubby had the Cold Brew. We also shared the Pear juice, which reminded me of sugarcane juice! Dad and I shared the Scrambled Eggs Plate with tomato & goat cheese mousse. Hubby had the Croque Madame. Everything was good!

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Tatte Bakery & Cafe. My first time visiting was back in 2015. I love the menus and love the ambiance. When I came back to Boston this week, I realized that there are so many locations since then. My teenage kids love quiche. We had conversation that we wish we have one in the Bay Area in California. The price is reasonably good based on the quality of food. The only complaint I have is people sitting w/laptops and lounging . Because there are not enough sitting area for food because people take all the spaces and spend hours w/computers. You cannot take to-go for some food. It is such a popular cafe and I want to enjoy my food at the table comfortably.

Yelp
Great spot to grab coffee & a bite to eat. It was very convenient as we were staying a couple blocks down the street. Both days we went around 9/10 AM and it wasn't any issue finding a seat, but friends mentioned that they had to take food to go when they went around lunch or in the afternoon. We got the vanilla donut both days - it's light yet doughy and not too sweet. We also tried the pistachio croissant, tomato feta scone, Jewish bread (not sure if that's the right name), and palmier. All pastries were great but my favorite out of that bunch was the bread (dipped in the shakshuka) and palmier. I also highly recommend the original shakshuka. They have a few varieties, and we tried the original and lamb meatballs. Coffee was also consistently good. They were able to accommodate my request for less sweet drinks and they use stumptown beans. I tried their season pistachio drink. It had a great flavor, but was a bit chunky - I guess I was expecting a smoother texture, more like a caramel

Yelp
Was walking around looking for a spot to eat breakfast. The menu looked good + it was packed on a Sunday so I decided to come. I luckily got a seat at the bar to eat my meal, it was so delicious. Next time I'm in Boston, I'm coming back.

Yelp
Great pastries and coffee but the all-day egg breakfasts are the highlight. Great to see a chain like this maintain high standards.

Yelp
Great GF options! Such a cute place to read or just take some time for yourself! I love this little cafe!

Yelp

The staff will bring your order out for you, but you clean up after yourself. - Cheesecake Crumbs Cup: The topping was a bit messy to eat, so I would have preferred if it were served in a bigger cup. The cheesecake itself was thick and creamy and not too sweet. The bottom was soggy instead of crumbly, probably because it was not served fresh. - House Honey Halva Latte: This was pretty refreshing. It was lightly sweetened and had a smooth caffeine kick/aftertaste.

Yelp
Every time I visit Boston for work, I come here for lunch because the food is excellent, and there is a vast selection. It does get very busy around lunch time, so my recommendation would be to come before or after the lunch rush. I have always had the halloumi salad which is stellar, and I have tried their soup and pastries. I am also a vegetarian and they have a lot of selections. If the Halloumi salad wasn't so great, I'm sure I would have tried more items. They also do to-go service which is nice and you can avoid the wait/line.

Yelp
The food was excellent and the atmosphere was very calming and clean. The service was very kind and pleasant. Definitely a great place for brunch.

Yelp
Always one of my favorite places - I wish there was one closer to CT! I love the freshly made bread and the egg sandwiches - stuffed full - love it! You place an order at the counter, and they deliver it, and you bus your own table - surprisingly, it is very, very clean - in several locations I've been to. I'm a big ambiance person - I tend to like places for how the space makes me feel. Tatte gets an A.
google avatar

Yelp
The ambiance here is on point. Personally found the pastry and coffee just ok. Got here on a Saturday around 9 and it was a long line to the door but it moved quickly. They have a lot of variety for seating, communal tables, bar tables and smaller booth type seating. Free wifi as well. I got the sour cherry almond scone and a latte. The scone is of the drier variety which I don't mind but it was pretty dense and I didn't taste any cherry. I did taste subtle almond flavor and they had actual almond pieces which added a nice textural contrast. The latte tasted pretty bitter but it might just be how they made it because they use stumptown beans.

A A.

Yelp
The pancakes were good, it came with yogurt and pear compote. It was really loud inside, so I ate outside. The weather was good. My food came out fast despite the long line.

Yelp
We arrived at South Station to catch our Amtrak to NYC early, so I told V to wait with our stuff while I venture outside. I was headed elsewhere but this was closer so I went. It was super cute-too bad I had to get it to go. Glad I changed direction. Our matcha was on point, the gluten free oatmeal raisin cookie I ate on the train was a treat. The woman who rang me up was informative and awake because she noticed all the baked goods I bought were gluten free (also bought a Halva Brownie and a Meringue with drizzled Chocolate) so she let me know the granola I purchased was not. It was for a gift but I'm appreciative of her clarification. Love that!

Yelp
Food: The Black Sesame Iced Latte (with almond milk, ofc) was very OK. I was craving something sweet drink-wise which somewhat satisfied my cravings but didn't feel like the syrup was all that amazing. Service: Came near to closing time so the drink was fast! Ambiance: The store is really clean, you could totally come here to do work or study. The bathrooms are also clean which is surprising as I've been to some locations which are not as nice. Overall... it's a nice Tatte :)

Yelp
There's too much hype about Tatte - I assume most people go there for the interior design aesthetic than the quality of the food itself. I feel like prices have gone up but the quality of the pastries has gotten slightly poor. Visited after a few years and got their small matcha latte ($4.50) + pistachio croissant ($4.85). The person taking my order didn't even ask what kind of milk I wanted and by the time I found out where to go to pick up my drink, the barista was shouting out my name. He said he made it with whole milk and I didn't bother asking him to make me a new one. The drink was very bland (no sweetener added at all) and tasted watery - probably used skim or low-fat milk. Another recent visit I got their potato, spinach mushroom "bowl" ($11.85 + tax) which comes with an egg and sourdough bread to-go... It was really disappointing in terms of how small of a portion it is (very light to carry and just barely covers the bottom of the takeout container). At over $12 it wasn't even filling. The 2 sourdough slices it comes with were tough to chew. While waiting ~10 mins for my order, I saw the server take out pre-made and pre-cut brownies from a big plastic tub onto a display plate, I question how long ago those brownies were made. The croissant was also dry, not sure if that's b/c I stopped by in the late afternoon but they were displayed in a pile and I saw the server just pick one up from there and put it in a bag. It's a pretty mediocre croissant sliced in half with some very sweet "pistachio jam" in the middle. I've had this before and I don't feel like they are baked fresh daily.. it was very brittle and even after reheating slightly in a microwave it didn't get much softer.

Yelp
This was our 1st stop after a red eye flight from LA. We needed caffeine and a quick breakfast before checking into our hotel. Hubby got a breakfast sandwich and I got croissant with a latte. Conveniently they do have self-serve water with cups. It's nice they have Tatte all over Boston within the walkable city. A great pick me up or if you need to rest your feet with a pastry. I see that Panera actually owns most of Tatte, but this is definitely a nice upgrade from Panera.

Yelp
Love love love this place! My bf and I are not big breakfast people, but this place made us love breakfast. We first went here a few years ago and we got the shakshuka. I have loved shakshuka ever since! This time, we got the lamb shakshuka and the prosciutto and eggs toast. We also ordered the kabocha squash latte. The latte was so delicious! It's the perfect fall drink! And the shakshuka was so light with the tomatoes and the lamb. I've had shakshuka where the seasonings were a little heavy. Here, it tasted so light and fresh and healthy! The scrambled eggs were so creamy and almost sweet and it was perfect with the saltiness of the prosciutto. Their cafe is so beautiful! If I lived in Boston, I'd be studying or working here every chance I get or even just read a book while sipping on my squash latte! This is another go-to of mine for Boston!

Yelp
I love coming to Tatte for breakfast, lunch, snacks, or to buy gifts.. for myself. By gifts, I mean buying the prepackaged cookies that you can easily pack into your bag. The nutella cookies are my favorite. For breakfast, I love all their sandwiches. I recently tried the eggs with prosciutto over sourdough and it is so good. It is a great option if you want something lighter. Their coffee is good too. For lunch, I really like the halloumi salad. You can add extra protein like chicken or tuna. Their cakes are all amazing as well. The food is always freshly made here, you can never go wrong!

Yelp
Delicious chai latte and Jerusalem bagel. Nice stop along the freedom trail! Cozy seating.

Yelp
This is one of the first places I stop by after reaching South Station. It is located right next to several office buildings so there is a lot of foot traffic in the area. I love the way everything is set up in the restaurant. They have several tables and open areas spread out. There is comfortable outdoor seating available as well. All of the desserts and food options are set up in the middle for viewing before you order. This would be a great place to hang out and work during the week. You can easily sit back and people watch while you enjoy your meal. I arrived in Boston late afternoon so I was hungry. I ordered the chicken pita and an iced latte. This is where I take down one star due to the small portion size. For $12 I expected a larger sized pita. The iced latte was delicious. I did not have any time to try out one of their dessert options however I will be back soon. Overall, I would say this place is better to go for breakfast or dessert.

Yelp
Great spot for coffee and pastry's or for brunch. Saw many people working or chatting. Nice clean and modern interior

Yelp
I had the pleasure of trying Tatte during a recent visit to Boston, and I am proud to say that it is now my favorite bakery & cafe in Boston. There's just so many options to choose from --salads, entrees, pastries, and drinks --that you can't go wrong with anything. They've got a clean and welcoming dining room to sit and eat, with panoramic windows that bring in tons of light Highly recommend and will definitely be back to try more unique items.

Yelp
Great coffee shop who's pastries transport you back to Paris! Very spacious for being in a busy area near the south station. I had an iced latte and the muesli for breakfast. Carried out a chocolate rose pastry for the road. The latte was great quality as well as the food. They were out of the sweet French toast option so someday I hope to return for that! Quick service, great Wifi, nice atmosphere for working on your computer for a bit.

Yelp
First time in Tatte downtown Boston. Food is great , coffee is amazing! They have best Greek yogurt I have had. Great atmosphere. costumer service was not great I don't think I would go back to downtown Tatte next time I will try out different location. Other then that I would definitely recommend!

Shaneese B.

Yelp
Ordered the Shakshuka w/ lamb meatballs, my first time having it ever and it was AMAZING. Contemplating going back tomorrow for the same exact thing. ps. The picture doesn't do it justice. It was great.

Yelp
One of my go to spots when I visit Boston! Love that they have a lot of options pending what dietary restrictions you have. I got the Turkey BLAT sandwich on gluten free bread and it was delicious. I'm a big fan of their black unsweetened iced tea and gluten free plain chocolate brownie. Recommend taking public transit or walking as this location is in downtown and parking can be challenging.

Yelp
This was a great first experience. I didn't realize there was one close to me as well. I will definitely be visiting again. Ambiance: (4/5) I loved the aesthetic and feel of the this location. It layout made a lot of sense. There was not a lot of seating which I think they can improve on since there was plenty of space. Price: (4/5) The prices are average. I wasn't blown away on way or the other. Food: (5/5) The savory French toast is like nothing I have ever tried before. The flavor profile was rich and I could taste every ingredient. The slices were thick like they should be. The lettuce on the side was a good thing to add to my bites of French toast. This was my favorite item I tried. The coffee was decent, but nothing to write home about. Not too sweet or bitter. Service: (5/5) My food came out quick which was nice. This isn't really a sit down restaurant so no one came around to check on us, but I wasn't expecting that. In conclusion, I can't wait to go back. This is on of my favorite brunch places.
google avatar

Christopher H.

Yelp
I've wanted to try shakshuka for a while now so imagine my surprise when I found a place whose founder specialized in it! It was very delicious paired with the bread. The only thing I wished could be changed is to offer cilantro instead of parsley as the garnish. We also tried some other pastries which were OK but nothing stood out like the shakshuka
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Was able to camp out here for an hour or so while waiting for my South Station train. Coffee's pretty good, and the ambiance overall is pretty nice in terms of a place where you can set up and do some work for a little bit. Did not have any food, but it's a Tatte and I live near DC and those things are everywhere there so I'm assuming that's all pretty similar. Overall a good place to get some work done and get caffeinated.
google avatar

Lindsay M.

Yelp
I was JUST ABOUT to give this place 3 stars...and then I took a bite of the passion fruit patisserie. + 1 star from just a bite. Yes, that good. It's a bright, airy space with large windows on two sides. White tiles on nearly every surface give it a fresh appearance. The staff was friendly and fast! There are gluten-free versions available for a lot of the menu offerings. I ordered the short rib grilled cheese. It was just okay. It was severely lacking on the cheese and missing those glorious melted strings that follow a perfect grilled cheese bite. I'd have called this sandwich a "short rib on warm soft bread with a dash of cheese." Not really a show stopper. My husband ordered the kebab platter. It was also nothing to shout about from the rooftops. Unless you're telling your friend on a neighboring rooftop, "Hey! It's not that special!" All in all, a pretty OK experience. Plus a fab pastry.

Yelp
Awesome! Great presentation. Good vibe. Nice reprieve from the urban wall. Coffee! Definitely drop in for a bite, coffee or pastry!

Yelp
Beautiful roomy interior, patio seating and indoor seating available. So many pastries and brunch options. I chose the beets latte, the salmon sandwich, the strawberry rhubarb yogurt, and a fig cherry tart. and my sister had the latte with the peach with mint toast. Everything was so good.

Yelp
We were looking for a somewhat quick Breakfast near our hotel in downtown Boston. I found tatte bakery and cafe on Yelp and we decided to walk there. At about 9-10am it was pretty busy on a Friday. We ordered avocado toast and a matcha latte. I asked for the egg on the side since I don't eat egg and wanted to give it to my husband but they gave it on top. the matcha latte wasn't sweetened but they did have simple syrup on the counter so I added a bunch for my liking. The avocado toast was drenched in a very sour dressing- might of been a mixture of vinegar and lime. But too sour to the point we couldn't finish the toast. It was also pretty pricey but as Texans we understand bostons pretty pricey!
google avatar

Ryan D.

Yelp
Found plastic bits in my drip coffee. This is not only disgusting but also unsafe. The pieces are so small that they are hard to notice when drinking the coffee, but they are present. This is the SECOND time that this has happened at this Tatte location. Please be careful ordering here, as you may be consuming plastics.

Yelp
Lovely in here. This review is overdue for my first breakfast out 2022 here at Tatte. So worth it! My Boston host was raving about trying their Shakshouka. Reporting that she'd had cheesier, but she was satisfied. It was my first time ever trying the dish so it was a treat. I ordered the Greek pancakes, solid breakfast option for those wanting the warmth of pancakes nix the excess sugar from standard syrups and toppings. Served in high quality Tatte fashion. Love the branding which led me to check out their website and found out they do catering. I still don't know if I'm spelling Shakshouka properly. Love of the back Bay location. I left refreshed. it was a spot on Boston experience! Great spot to recharge which is exactly what we did the morning after a night out. We can all appreciate a quality breakfast spot nestled in the city. Tatte perfectly fits the bill.

Yelp
The shashuka is a must order from here. It is super creamy and perfectly seasoned paired with bread it taste really good. They made it look amazing with cilantro on top. The service was okay since it was really crowded. There was a bit of a wait since it was packed with people. It was loud inside and not enough sitting area.

Yelp
Nothing to say here except for perfection! 2nd time coming here to the Boston area from the West Coast and came here both times. This place does not disapppint with service or quality. The coffee is perfect and the food is well presented and delicious. The Shakshuka with meatballs is delicious!

Yelp
I had always loved latte and sweets at Tatte in Harvard Square, so I could not be any happier when Tatte opened up this location in Boston. It is at the perfect location with a lot of sun and before the pandemic there are a lot of people sitting right in front of the place just to chill and get some sun (like me). However I left my job in Downtown Boston and didn't get a chance to come back during the pandemic. I did stop by a couple times to get some treats and latte. Their latte and sweet never disappoint me!!! During the pandemic, it was sad seeing all the seating areas were closed! Just like any where else in Boston! I finally got a chance to come back when they operate normally!! It is the best place to grab a seat, talk to friends, study, or work! I just love the atmosphere and came back many days on the row. I would say this is my favorite bakery/coffee place in Boston
