To be clear, we ended up NOT eating at this restaurant for dinner. So, normally I would never write a review, but the interactions with the staff in the 10-20min we had were so awful and baffling i decided to share.
5 of us walked into the restaurant dressed for dinner and asked about a table for a large group. We wanted to confirm that was okay even though the restaurant was 80% empty looking in. The staff was rude and speaking down to us from the get go, which was off putting. We ended up getting a table for 5 and they served us water, but there was a misunderstanding with our group and we wanted to eat at a different restaurant. Totally understand this is annoying, but things happen and we were apologetic and polite about it. When we tried to explain that we didn't want to order anything and wanted to leave (we paid for the water) the man there began shouting at our party. Not an exaggeration, this man raised his voice to yelling, and then proceeded to literally shoo us with his arms as we exited out the door. It couldn't have been a pleasant interaction for the few other customers eating there.
The staff was so rude and condescending from the very get go and then continued to prove themselves as such throughout our short interaction. Normally I wouldn't question this, but it felt very pointed that we were treated this way when 3/5 of our group was non-white (east Asian, black, and Indian) and they had a blatantly blackface statue decorating their restaurant. Also note that one of our group was raised their entire life in Europe, another of us spoke Italian, and several of us have lived abroad, so I don't think our behavior or expectations were so out of place as to deserve that treatment.
I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, no matter how good the food is, as a POC or ally to POC I would never feel comfortable here or would want to spend my money with them.
