NYC’s New Restaurant Openings

"Thai-inspired burgers are a bit of a mini-trend with Zaab Burger, and Little Grenjai. This third spot is in Midtown East, but instead of smashburgers, Tawan serves thick burgers in a holy basil sauce, and chicken sandwiches smothered in green curry. They’re in soft opening with limited hours for now (Sunday and Monday nights, 5-10pm). " - will hartman

Tawan is a standout spot. This east side gem brings together beautiful presentation, a relaxing ambiance, and unbelievably kind staff. Their passion for food was palpable, bringing unique flavors to some of my favorite dishes. Aside from the fantastic burger, some standouts were the Tawan Salad and the Thai green curry crispy chicken sandwich! I cannot recommend this place enough for your next Sunday or Monday night

A pop-up only available on Sunday and Monday nights in an already hard to find jazz bar, Taiwan NYC is the very definition of a hidden gem. Both the burger and chicken sandwich were delightful: crunchy, juicy, with hints of Thai flavors. As soon as you enter the restaurant, you feel like you’re in a speakeasy in the best way. However, do note that our food took a solid 30-45 minutes to arrive, so I would definitely recommend coming with a group you can kill some time with.

This pop up had a great vibe. The staff were super friendly. We basically ordered the entire menu. Everything was good. The salad doesn’t look exciting but then you taste it and it’s fantastic. The pears were perfection and the pecans carmelized in cocoa and brown sugar were so tasty. The green curry fried chicken sandwich is delicious but if you have to get just one thing, the Thai Basil burger is AMAZING! Perfection! Served with a cucumber pickled with fish sauce and white vinegar, loved it! Three words….Get. The. Burger!

This is the definition of dining local. The place is super vibey and the food is delicious! We started with corn ribs and a new menu item that is a fish and mango ceviche. Both the chicken sandwich and Thai burger are amazing! They are only open Sunday and Monday as a pop up but would recommend!

“I’ve visited this hidden gem of a restaurant twice now, and I’m absolutely blown away! The food was incredibly delicious, and the staff—especially Cake—was so friendly and delightful. The chef even came out to greet us, which added such a personal touch. Now, let me rave about the food in detail. How is it possible to make a simple fried chicken hamburger taste so extraordinary? I usually can’t handle oily fried foods, but your chicken was an exception—I couldn’t stop eating it! I even ended up ordering another one. The salad, with its touch of pecans, was absolutely divine. The dressing was so flavorful, I finished every last bite. The hamburger patty was fresh and delicious, and the dipping sauce added a unique twist. It reminded me of homemade green curry—an incredible blend of Asian and Western flavors. Everything was perfect! My only wish is that they were open more days, as they currently only operate on Sundays and Mondays. I’ll definitely be back for more!”

Google
The best burgers I’ve ever had in New York City!! I ordered the Thai Basil Burger and I was blown away. I am usually not a burger person in general but the way the flavors all melded together was phenomenal. The beef was tender, the egg yolk was delicious, and the slightly sweet and spicy basil flavor was unreal. Also, EK and Cake- the owners of the establishment were SO HOSPITABLE!! They took the time to learn our names, shake our hands, and offered salad and ceviche for us to try. 10/10 experience and food- will definitely be back again! ❤️

Yelp
This is a new pop up situated on the lower level on 53rd st that has Thai-style sandwiches and burgers. The space (which also houses Mama's Cupboard) is super cozy. I really enjoyed everything I had here -- the burger was my fav, with distinctive Thai basil and spice flavors, but the fried chicken sandwich is also great! Also recommend the truffle potato chips and the corn and house salad appetizers. Everything was honestly so good and the service was lovely.

Yelp
Such an amazing addition to the neighborhood! The chicken sandwich is amazing as is all the food - definitely recommend this place it's just as good as double chicken please The owners are so sweet as well just such a great dining experience overall

Yelp
Keep an eye on this team/chef. They clearly have a passion to make the food thing work. There was a long wait at places nearby, but I can't imagine this place not deserving a line that long or longer. They are in a great little spot. Had some live music when we were there. Every dish was outstanding. Well balanced and executed with care. I had the burger 2x. I just won't eat fora day or so. Oh and great cock/mocktails.

Yelp
Both starters were good. Burger and chips were delicious! The staff are friendly and helpful. The place has a good ambience and the price is decent.

Yelp
Tucked away in such a cool little bar. And the server was very friendly and helpful. But the food was the star of the show. Literally the best chicken sandwich I've ever had!

Yelp
A delightful space that feels so cozy! The food is absolutely amazing. A fun twist on a chicken sandwich with the green curry sauce. The burger was also amazing. I was dubious when I saw it had no sauce but I have never had a patty that juicy without feeling the slightest bit greasy. Packed with flavor and I didn't need a sauce at all. Service was amazing too, we even got complimentary corn (which was soooo good) and green tea to sip on before dessert. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
The atmosphere was so cozy and intimate and the owners were so nice and welcoming. They took the time to explain every dish to us and were very accommodating! Every dish was so flavorful and unique. The corn ribs had the perfect amount of spice and truffle. The thai curry fried chicken sandwich was so unique and the thai basil sandwich was so flavorful. Everything was incredibly reasonably priced. Would highly recommend!

Yelp
Great dinner. Corn ribs and salad are perfect appetizers. Chicken sandwich is brined for 24 hours and made to order served on a pretzel bun. The burger patties are hand made with a fried egg. Will come back.

Yelp
Absolutely love this place! We got the Thai Green Curry Crispy Chicken sandwich and it was incredible (if not the best chicken sandwich I'v ever had). The chicken was perfectly breaded/fried, and the green curry complimented the sandwich so well. The owners were very kind and gave us complimentary salad/dessert. We can tell they put a lot of love in what they do and can't wait to come back soon!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our visit to this pop-up restaurant. We tried everything on their menu except the Glazed Bacon. We especially like their Green Curry Friend Chicken sandwich. The chicken was super crispy, and it went great with their creamy Thai green sauce. Their burger was also good. It had a strong basil flavor that my girlfriend and I enjoyed, but not everyone might like it. It's not a traditional burger, but if you enjoy basil-flavored Thai food, you should give this burger a try. We also appreciated how all the ingredients seemed fresh and of high quality. The owners are super friendly and passionate about their food, and you can really taste it in everything they made. The space has this cool speakeasy vibe, and prices are pretty standard for NYC. They're only open Sundays and Mondays from 5-10pm inside Mama's Cupboard - definitely worth checking out if you want something different!

Yelp
The beef burger was absolutely delicious. So unique and melted right in your mouth. Highly recommend
