Oakland International Airport is Getting 17 New Restaurants | Eater SF

"I note Tay Ho will open a second location of the Chinatown Vietnamese restaurant, bringing that neighborhood spot’s flavors to the terminals." - Janelle Bitker

The Critics Are Split On Bar Crenn’s Swanky Food and Matching Prices | Eater SF

"Wading into Tay Ho in Oakland’s Chinatown, I encountered a sprawling 60-item menu that mixes regional Mekong cuisine with Vietnamese dishes, and highlights included a gorgeous cha cá lã vong fried catfish with an umami-rich pineapple and anchovy sauce, bánh khot turmeric cakes, and a wow-factor catfish curry served inside a coconut — arrive early for lunch if you want a table and a shot at the bánh cuốn noodle rolls." - Andrew Dalton

We have coming here for at least 10+ years and our experience is always top notch! We enjoy the food, staff and atmosphere. This establishment is the most authentic Vietnamese food you can get!! I highly recommend everyone give this place a try because you’ll never go to any other Vietnamese restaurant. 😊

Google
The food was ok.The noodles seemed alittle undercooked. My utensils had dust on them. My water tasted really weird and the cup wasn’t that clean. My spoon and bowl were not clean either. I lost my appetite after. I tired to ask for a discount on the food not even a full refund and they said NO.

Visited Tay Ho for lunch and was impressed with the food quality and service. We started our meal with the appetizer sampler, the items were all delicious and the sauces that accompanied the sampler were a great addition to the appetizers. For our main course we’d had short ribs and the clay pot pork. Both were delicious and more than enough food for each of us. Service was fast, our food arrived quickly, was visually appealing, and hot. Give Tay Ho a shot if you’re in the area, you will not be disappointed.

Google
My favorite Vietnamese restaurant anywhere. When I’m in the RVA I try to come here. I’ve been coming here for years. The service has never been too slow for me. Occasionally the BBQ pork is a little fatty, but not typically or I wouldn’t come back. My usual is to get the Bun Vermicelli with BBQ pork. The pork has the best flavor of any Vietnamese place I’ve been. The Thai Tea is the best of any other I’ve had. The decor is very artistic and modern.

This place is absolutely delicious! I came for the beef pho and was impressed with it's sweet flavorful broth! I lastly tried their crabmeat asparagus soup and oh my goodness was it so rich and creamy. All of it came out so quickly and hot! Thank you Tay Ho ! You've gained a new loyal customer 🧡

This was my second time coming here for some Viet food. We came in the middle of the afternoon and it was quiet. The place was clean and has minimal modern decor. My favorite part of the restaurant is the wide variety of food items to try. The food is also very reasonable price and the place does not skimp out on quality and quantity. Most viet places have pho as their main dish but we especially loved the C1 grilled barbecue pork and M1 Vietnamese beef stew. My mom loves to make the wraps in C1, and for $14, it was very worth it. I got the P3; the broth was strong and flavorful. I think the flank steak and brisket were chewier than usual, so maybe they were cooked for too long and then added to the pho bowl. I was a bit disappointed with M10 because the broth was not as flavorful as I hoped. It was a clean, colorless broth, but even those can still have a good flavor profile. It also just came with shrimp, fish balls, and pork— which I think is a bit basic. Surprisingly, I quite liked M1 Vietnamese beef stew because the soup was strong and thick and the beef chunks were nice, soft, and unexpectedly big. Still, the meat tore away very easily, and the dish was not spicy at all (maybe just a little bit oily). There is a huge parking lot for this restaurant, and the road leading to the restaurant is wide. The ambiance was quiet and dim when we came in. There were no lights on except the blinding lighting from outside. I’m not a fan of places that use really dim lighting because it’s hard to see and doesn’t create a warm restaurant environment. The environment was clean and decorated in a minimal modern way. Most decor was plants and nice lights that hung from the ceiling. I have mixed opinions on the customer service. We were greeted quickly and he sat us at a booth. My only issue with the booth was that is was sopping wet and wasn’t dried at all, not even a weak attempt to dry it. The food service itself was fast, and I felt like the two staff members were rushing when taking our orders and distributing utensils and food. Perhaps we just came at a bad time and they were in the middle of dinner prep. I’d probably come back again for some more pho though.

Google
Tây Hồ is an upscale Vietnamese restaurant with excellent variety of meat and vegetarian dishes. Today we ordered all vegetarian plates and my favorite is the grilled tofu. Additionally we ordered the crepes, sour hot pot. Everything was delicious and great food presentation. Highly recommended and we’ll be back to try the meat dishes!

Google
It was okay. I really liked the shrimp wontons. Drinks was really light. I had a little bug in my drink & the server was examining it disbelief or something. That was kinda awkward. I was tripping so I expected the other drinks to be stronger. They was but not by much. Those shrimp wontons alone would make me not dismiss this place all together.

Yelp
Love the food! I'm in Richmond twice a month and this place is always on the list of places to grab something. My mom loves the pork chop and I love the spring rolls. Food always ready on time, I've never dined in, always to go.

Yelp
On a lovely spring day in April, I went to lunch at Tay-Ho, Vietnamese Cuisine at its Finest. The building is very nice and very accommodating. Tay-Ho has been in this space since at least 2015 and seems to be doing very well for itself. I met up with my wife and our mutual friend Sadie for lunch. We ordered two orders of the A1. Crispy Spring Rolls which were nice and crispy. My wife, if I recall, got the B1 Grilled BBQ Pork bowl. I had the T5 Grilled BBQ Pork special grill platter. The food hit the mark on this day. The flavors were good, and everything was well seasoned. Just take a glance at my lovely photos and they speak for themselves. We don't around to this part of town often but if you're in the area give Tay-Ho a try.

Yelp
Good food and good customer service. Hasn't disappointed me and I've been there twice.

Yelp
Nice large room, seems very clean. The pho came out quick and portions were large. Flavorful and filling. Nice place

Yelp
I continue to enjoy Tay-Ho. Five years since my last review, it is time to update. Tay-Ho continues to impress. Good pho, great appetizers, and very clean, even when post-covid precautions have been relaxed elsewhere. We continue to rely on this restaurant for great comfort food, generous portions, and reasonable prices. Will return again and again.

Yelp
overall the food is good. I prefer other spots for Vietnamese food in Richmond but this place is not that bad. Restaurant is clean and well decorated. Unfortunately, the service was super slow since there was only one server taking care of all the tables. He was super nice but I could tell he was overwhelmed. Maybe restaurant was down a few servers and I just caught them at a bad time.

Yelp
Bff and I caught up here and it was so good! The parking lot want that full, but I can imagine it getting pretty full easily, so I'm glad it wasn't. The server was at the host stand when we got there, very friendly, and we are one of maybe 4 or 5 tables with guests. Bff got a noodle soup dish she remembered but wasn't on the menu, and the server recognized it when she described it. My appetizer plate and her noodle soup dish were delicious, very yummy! I'm bout the biggest fan of Vietnamese good, but the appetizers were spot on asmr bff enjoyed her soup thing!

Yelp
Food was delicious. Loved the shrimp wontons! They were super full of shrimp and surprisingly really filling. The pho, wonton soup, and Thai tea were great too! Clean and spacious. Service was kind of slow. Otherwise great!

Dana G.

Yelp
My water glass had shards of glass from another glass in it. I pointed this out to the server, showing him a piece of glass that I had pulled out of my mouth and they apologized but I had already swallowed glass. They didn't take anything off our bill. Also they were unable to do stir fry or fried rice so most of the menu was unavailable.
google avatar

Yelp
Tay-Ho is a nice option for pho. They have plenty of seating, which makes it easy for big groups. The service is always friendly and prompt. My go-to's are the cha gio and pho tai.

Yelp
I could eat here 7 days a week... If you live on the mid west to west end, and you want quality delicious balanced healthy food without breaking the bank, this place is the ANSWER. PLUS PHO‼ Nuff Said. Enjoy.

Yelp
Got to Buz and Ned's too late for ribs, saw this place down the street and decided to give it a shot. We loved it! Between us we tried the Rocket Shrimp (10/10), Crab & Asparagus Soup (8/10), Tay-Ho Wontons (9/10), and Seafood Glass Noodle Soup (9/10). The Vietnamese Coffee was very good as well. The staff was friendly and helpful. The restaurant is very clean and nice inside. The prices are VERY reasonable for this quality and quantity of food. From now on, passing through Richmond, I'll get the Beef Ribs for dinner and some Vietnamese for the road or the next day!

Yelp
Food was 10/10 amazing!!!! We got the Pho Dac Biet, with combo meats. The service was very kind and attentive. The restaurant was nice and cozy. Definitely a must try for Vietnamese Cuisine! Best Pho in RVA

Yelp
Still one of my favorite places! I've eaten here a few times with coworkers but most often I pick up an order to go on the way home. I always get the same dish: grilled barbecue tofu noodle bowl and sometimes throw in vegetarian spring rolls. They NEVER disappoint. My only wish is that online ordering and payment would be an option but otherwise, great place! Everyone there is always friendly and the service is pretty fast. If you haven't been there, you need to give them a try.

Yelp
I went with my friends on a Thursday, and it was admittedly super empty. I can only suspect it was because it's a bit hot to have pho because this place was fantastic. The restaurant is huge and well-decorated and is a great place to bring family or a group of friends. Our server was super attentive and polite, and he wasn't rude about us unintentionally staying until closing time. The food came out at a respectable pace, and everything tasted great. I was impressed by the variety of dishes on their menu including bun bo hue and Vietnamese crepe because most Vietnamese places don't serve dishes that aren't pho. 5/5 overall--can't wait to come back!

Yelp
good food vibe server was good they have nice drinks selection they serve alot of vietnamese dishes

Yelp
Our daughter had a volleyball tournament in that area about a month ago. We had 11 girls there and some their families plus coaches. Service was nice. We all got to pay the bills separately. The food was excellent, ambience was great. It was a last minute reservation too, and with all the different girls and boys tournaments going on in the area. they still were able to fit us in last minute. The restaurant is a huge place & great food. My hubs and I even went in the next day while tournament was going on and our daughter's team wasn't playing to grab lunch! We'll be back end of May for the championship tournaments and I will come back!

Yelp
Was craving soup with the chilly weather so we stumbled upon this place. My boyfriend and I got the Pho Dac Biet which is a combination of meats. The broth was very flavorful and the soup overall was delicious. It definitely hit the spot. We also ordered some egg rolls but they brought out shrimp spring rolls instead and I was fine with it since I do love some spring rolls also. Our waiter was very friendly and helpful.
google avatar

Erica N.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food here. The pho broth is a little sweeter than I'm used to but still good. The bowls our pho was served in was so old they almost looked dirty. I don't think they were because this restaurant is extremely clean
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
Amazing food and service with great atmosphere. Highly recommended. Some of the best pho in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by here because our favorite Thai restaurant was closed. We figured Vietnamese was close enough! We both ordered soups and my wife also ordered an appetizer as the main course. The soups were very good, although I think they use a little too much cilantro. I ordered a clay pot chicken dish. It was quite good, but it took a long time to come out of the kitchen. On the same token, the server brought my wife's main course along with the appetizer. Overall, it is a solid restaurant. Need to staff up a little bit more so that the one person isn't having to manage the entire dining room. My only real issue with the place was the service, but I think with an additional server it would've made a big difference.

Yelp
The food is always fresh and delicious. The staff is wonderful and friendly. My to go place for good Vietnamese cuisine!

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to eat, specially in winter time i come here often for the pho, really good soups and lot of options as well

Yelp
Been to Tay-Ho few times before the pandemic, but decided to eat here again after a long long hiatus. We arrived at noon on a Saturday and it was pretty empty besides 2 other tables. I ordered the pho dac biet - pretty big portions, lots of noodles, this combo also came with meatballs. My mom got the grilled barbecue pork special grill platter. She likes this dish a lot because you get to wrap the ingredients in rice paper by yourself. They give a peanut sauce/fish sauce for dipping, but my mom likes to spread some on the rice paper too. It was delicious and I would definitely come back just for the special grill platter! Tay-Ho creates a modern, clean, and quiet environment. Service was prompt when we asked for an extra bowl and the check at the end. Lots of spaces available in the parking lot!
google avatar

Aaron B.

Yelp
Good food, slow service. The restaurant is pretty big, but never seems to be too busy (usually 3-4 tables being utilized), in which there is only one waiter / hostess. With one staff member fulfilling both job duties, it takes awhile for you to get your drinks, food, or your check. The atmosphere is calming and quiet, due to no music or being too busy, in which you're able to engage with your dinner party. The food is always fresh, never cold. Authentic Vietnamese dishes! There is a sit down bar inside too. If you're looking for an inexpensive place to order good food, and don't mind waiting for at least an hour, then check out Tay-Ho!

Annette

Yelp
Food was amazing as well the service and ambiance. This was the first time I ate here. A friend recommended this place to me as well as treated me to lunch. Totally support recommendation. Check them out!

Yelp
Visited with some friends because we loooove Pho The restaurant was nice, clean, and spacious The Pho was good I will visit again

Bailey G.

Yelp
My all time favorite Vietnamese restaurant!! Whenever i'm in the Richmond area I always make sure to stop at Tay-Hoe. Their pho broth is unbeatable and their appetizers never disappoint. The service is always fast and I love the quiet environment in the restaurant. You can't go wrong at Tay-Hoe!

Gary D.

Yelp
The food was Excellent So glad to be able to enjoy really good Vietnamese food Thank you!!
google avatar

Yul B.

Yelp
Came again hoping things would change as far as how the pho is and nope, still the same. The pho is just way too bland. I literally put every spice i could think of to help it but it didn't help at all. I will not be coming here again. This is absolutely the worst pho I've ever had. I didn't think it was possible to make bad pho until I came here. The service is good though and that's why I gave them 2 stars instead of one.
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
I've been to Tay-Ho twice. There is definitely better Vietnamese food in the area, but I was with a large party and thought that seating and ambiance would be better here. Pho is a safe bet. I should have stuck to my tried and true, but I wanted to be adventurous. The bbq chicken broken rice was bland. Nothing to write home about at all, but I got the WORSE stomachache afterward. I never have stomach upset so this was a huge deal. I'll not risk that again when there is better Vietnamese food to be had elsewhere.
google avatar

Stephanie N.

Yelp
I really liked the decorations because it's different from other Vietnamese restaurants. I got the Banh Xeo, I think my cousins got pho, and my sister got spring rolls. You roll your own spring roll, so you can put as much as you want. The pho was alright, my family said. The banh xeo was big, lots to eat. Unfortunately, it wasn't cooked all the way as I'd typically like it. There were parts that seemed "dough-y". Not raw, but just undercooked. I also ordered an egg roll and it was good and crunchy. When I got my banh xeo, unfortunately, mine wasn't cooked all the way. It wasn't as crunchy as I expected. Lastly, I ordered a spring roll, it was huge. We had hot and sour soup, that was pretty good. The service was really slow (when I showed up late for my group) and the food was average. In a large group, they'll automatically take tip from your tab. Overall, not bad, but not the best I'd recommend to others who have a tongue for Vietnamese cuisine.

Tatyhana W.

Yelp
Food here is TOO GOOD! Plenty of veggie options, I've never ate inside only carry out so I can't speak to the ambiance inside. Staff is always super friendly and fast.
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
This was my pho place on Tuesdays due to Pho So 1 being closed on Tuesdays but I'm leaning more and more to Tay Ho now for several reasons: clean and covid-appropriate dining experience, friendly and helpful staff, and consistency of food. We usually get shrimp spring roll, P6 (Pho Tai Gan) and P7 (Pho Tai Gau) and they're always flavorful and satisfying. I think that Tay Ho will be my weekly pho place from now on! Highly recommend.
google avatar

Jessica F.

Yelp
I've been coming here for about 8 years. They always are consistent with delicious bbq the chicken is my go too. The pho is delicious and always on point. Coffee is just the right amount of sweet and strength.

Yelp
First of all this place is beautiful! Me and my family was on a mini road-trip, heading back to RI. We wanted a quick bite to eat. Found this restaurant on Yelp. It was an easy on and off 95. The food was very tasty and delicious! Services was excellent! We'll definitely stopping by there again on our next road trip!

Mark B.

Yelp
We live in Charlottesville but ordered take out here since we flew into Richmond airport. This was to say the least Awful food. We ordered D9 Vietnamese Clay Hot Pot with Shrimp and D1 Spicy Beef Soup. Both broths tasted spoiled and we couldn't eat it. After a long day of travel, I can't tell you how disappointing this was especially since both dishes were quite expensive. I've eaten plenty of Vietnamese food and this was by far The Worse. Please Beware!

Monica C.

Yelp
Delicious!!! Had the bbq chicken wraps... love them and the experience!!! Nice quiet environment with delicious food!

Shania J.

Yelp
They have the best vegetable pho ever, it is soooo hearty and flavorful. Comes with broccoli, snap peas, celery, carrot, two kinds of mushroom, loads of onion green onion and cilantro of course, and tofu which I usually pass on
google avatar

Josh A.

Yelp
My favorite place for Crispy Spring Rolls and Pork Dumplings. The hot and sour soup is delicious. The ambiance is beautiful and the service is great!
google avatar

Catheey N.

Yelp
Ordered one of the special of the days which was the fried flounder. To my surprise, the fish was MASSIVE. Well worth the money (~$25). I wouldn't say it was seasoned much but it's supposed to be eaten with fish sauce anyways. The fish was fried perfectly. The vegetables underneath were broccoli, lettuce, and some pickled daikon and carrot. The broccoli kinda seemed like an afterthought and weren't special. The vegetarian spring rolls had crispy tofu, bean sprouts, and lettuce. The peanut sauce was exactly what I was used to and made me miss home. My friends got the broken rice (com tam) with pork but the portion of meat was really small. I think dishes can be hit or miss since the menu is so extensive. The service was alright. The server checked up on us periodically and I like how they added lemon in the water. There was a mix up when the wrong beer was brought out and there was an awkward silence. Just uncomfortable with how it was handled. Tay Ho has two large TVs by the bar section. The size of the restaurant is huge and very modern. Solid Vietnamese food!
google avatar

Manny N.

Yelp
Love the grilled barbecue pork chops. I like the beef pho but my wife doesn't. The chicken pho we both like though. Good appetizers too. Worth a spot in the rotation.
google avatar

Yvonne Z.

Yelp
Deep fried won tons are the hidden gem of this place! Pho is decent, although a little on the salter side. Fried spring rolls were a little disappointing. But overall, can't go wrong with this place, especially for the won tons!!
google avatar

Brandy T.

Yelp
Soup was well seasoned and my son loved the vegetable noodle soup. Would definitely revisit

Yelp
Perfection. Waitress was awesome and knowledgeable for a newbie. The entire restaurant was clean, well decorated and the food was on point.

Yelp
Happy to find this restaurant, serving big bowl delicious comfort food during my long road trip. Modern, clean and quiet restaurant with friendly and professional service Fair prices too!

Yelp
Came here last night for dinner. Huge place. I originally came here on Friday night at 10pm, there website said they were open till 12am. When I came in they said they were closed and that kinda ticked me off.. but I decided to come back. Huge place, very spacey. The service was very good. I think there was only one waitress working but it wasn't all that busy for a Sunday night. I ordered the steamed pork dumplings and they were fantastic. Ordered the Pho Tai Nam soup and it was huge. Really good though, meat wasn't too fatty which I like! I like spicy to I usually put all of the toppings in- watch out for the huge jalepeno slices.. I like jalepenos but damn. This thing had my mouth on fire for a good 10 mins straight. Like I could not even continue to eat and it was at the same time that my waitress seemed MIA- I really needed a water refill... other than that the soup was awesome! I feel like everytime I get pho the broth itself just tastes like water and does really have a flavor. Check it out! Check out their open times beforehand though.

Yelp
Very good!! Way better than most restaurants I've tried like pho Thein phat 2. I'll be continuing to come back.
