TBK Greektown (Taco Burrito King)

It's my pleasure to review another Taco Burrito King location, last time in Des Plaines, Illinois...this time downtown Chi. For just $15, including a decent tip, I received a substantial meal. I got the Torta plate this time. The torta was as big as a burrito, packed with plenty of protein and trimmings, and included a full dinner. I even got some chips and pico de gallo. I'm very satisfied—everything was delicious, just like always. Well worth it!

The food is the bomb! The cashier was really nice! And this kids meal which I ordered was very feeling.

Came here after eating some ramen from across the street. I’m from California I take tacos serious. I usually get pretty mad when I see that the tacos have lettuce, tomato and sour cream or even worse have ground beef but this place had an option to remove all of that so I just that. A taco should be carne asada (milanesa or ranchera) with cilantro, onion and salsa to your liking all that other crap needs to stay at Taco Bell. These two tacos were good, they saved my mood for the rest of the night but they were like 4 bucks each

Can you give negative stars? I was here to pick up a Door Dash order. After waiting roughly 20 minutes in the delivery section without being acknowledged, I stepped over to the main register to show the details of my order after being neglected. I was immediately barked at to wait in the delivery section. "Don't you see the signs over there!?" Haha, ummm okay so I walked over to his special area again and he asks for my details after stalling another couple of minutes. I show him the details, he flaps his arms in the air and grabs my order which was sitting for about 15 minutes. Keep in mind that it was only me and two other people in the store. One at the register waiting and the other with me in the delivery zone. After showing him the details he barks at me and says to go out the left half of the building as that is the exit before I even started making my way out. He demanded the other person picking up an order prior to me to do the same as well. His reaction was perplexed and they left out saying "I'm never coming back here again". Lol when I reflect on the situation I came to the conclusion that it must be drugs. Coke to be specific. While I was waiting in the delivery zone in those first 20 minutes, I noticed he would amplify everything he was doing by flicking his elbows in the air as if he was trying to roll up his sleeves or take off into the atmosphere. No sleeves or feathers existed on his body and work attire. I've had Taco Burrito King at another location once before. It wasn't anything special to say the least but at least every one was acting humane. I'd just say to watch out when going to this location. Proceed with caution and possibly come equipped with a face mask to avoid getting spit on by his ego. Solid negative two. He's got a small tattoo on his arm. Just watch for a guy flapping his wings.

I love this place. Feel like getting 1 today but so scared because I had a bad experience doing luch it was terrible. But everytime I go on Saturday night it sooo freaking good. But them cooks doing the daytime need training on how too cook.

On another mission to find the best late night Taco joint! I decided to get the quesadilla (with steak) dinner delivered and overall rate a 3/5 for food and 4/5 for speediness. My order took less than 15 minutes on a Friday night! The food was just super greasy, and was a little hard to eat but I enjoyed how seasoned it was.

Tried several items, but refuse to eat tacos from here. The flavor wasn’t there at all, the only thing so far that I’ve enjoyed are their super nachos and I had to add extra sauce.

The buritto was cold , and chicken was not cooked well. Very bad service. Even they didn't properly wrap tortilla. I dislike it and couldnt eat it.Waste of money 18$. I ordered can pepsi and they put orange soda.

Waited over 15 min for one really poorly made tamale, have ordered tacos in the past that were soggy and lacked flavor. Would really try anywhere else for food in the area, avoid this place.

I walked in thinking this was going to be an authentic Mexican food, but I was way wrong. The meat had no flavor and was so greasy. The tacos had iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream, which I thought was interesting, but I also walked in thinking it was traditional. I didn't take a picture, but I should have. The tacos were wrapped like a mess and was hard to eat. Service was good though. They had a friendly staff.

Worst TBK ever been to. We have tried most TBKs in Illinois and by far this is the worst one. Walking in it took over 5 min for someone to take our order. There was no one in the restaurant. Just a guy in the corner trying to balance on a chair taking pictures that would've looked better coming from an iPhone. Off the bat, the guy taking our order had a nasty attitude and made us extremely uncomfortable. All we ordered were 2 super king burritos, steak, no lettuce add jalapeños. Totaled out to $26.71. Apparently it was a hard order because he couldn't understand the simple fact we just didn't want lettuce and we had to keep repeating our order. (There was no language barrier as we repeated it in Spanish and English). It was such a weird interaction we didn't want to order anything else and took it to go. The food was just as unpleasant as the customer service and experience. The steak had disgusting pieces that looked like worms and lots of fat. So unappetizing we couldn't even finish our food. Every bite had some sort of fat and chewy pieces. Save your money and go to Chipotle or to the w north ave location LATE at night. 3 words to describe this place: unprofessional, unpleasant, unappetizing.

They closed an hour before the listed closing time. I drove a long way to be rejected at the door while they were cleaning up. That's garbage!

I choked on this and when I contacted, Uber Eats didn't feel like they took it as seriously. I feel like this could have been avoided and this is very unacceptable and disgusting.

Just a simple Mexican food place. Want a burrito? Get a burrito. They have bottles for salsas. Horchata is good. Quick turnaround from when you order. Plenty of seating. A little annoying driving in, because the ramp is steep. 24/7 makes it great for late night.

THEY ANSWER THE PHONE JUST TO HANG UP WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING. Whoever is working continually picks up the phone and immediately hangs up so they don't have to deal with phone orders. Called so many times. I hear them before they hang up

Ordered online via Uber eats. Was notified order is ready. Went to pick up my order and apparently someone else grabbed my order and it was paid for. Mentioned this to the cashier...nothing they could do.

Food is good, service sucks. Dude wearing the silver chain at the front can eat a bag of these

This was a great late night meal! I stopped in minutes before they closed the other night, around 1:45am. I ordered a taco plate with steak. They packed it up to-go and we ate it outside by the curb because they didn't want anyone dining inside anymore. I've got to say that it was DELICIOUS. The meat was seasoned and flavorful and the portion was decently sized. I ate the rest of it the next morning and it was even better the second time around. Don't expect a fancy sit down dinner when you come here but definitely expect a quality late night meal!

this restaurant closed a hour before closing because they are all fat and lazy. if you going to be closing a hour early whenever you feel like it just change the closing time to 2am everyday. this use to be my favorite taco place but this has been happening too often. not to mention this time it was a family of rats right outside. maybe it was a blessing that they were closed.

Ordered in super king burrito with steak, rice, chip n salsa. Everything was pretty good. The burrito was bit more on the cheesy side. I would like more embedded flavor or sauces in the burrito itself. The salsa had a nice kick to it. Good food overall.

Food is great but they don't abide by their hours listed and have you ordering door dash just for them to be closed

Taco Burrito King is at the tip of our town, and buying a taco is not that easy. Luckily, they have a delivery service for just a small delivery fee. Ordering food for a movie night with friends is always the best at taco bell. They always deliver the food freshly hot and right on time as what they set. They have the best pair of burrito and taco combinations along with favorite nachos perfect for six people. Movie nights are not perfect without a spicy burrito to eat. The delivery man will deliver the order in front of your home with the exact order you requested. Moreover, the food inside the carrying bag arranged accordingly, not messing up the tacos and burritos. Even before opening the bag, the smell immediately surprises you. The aroma is still fresh like it was made right in front of our house. The spicy taste and sourness are well balanced. Overall the food and the service they provide in their delivery is top-notch and highly recommended.

Best Al Pastor tacos anywhere near that area! Love the giant steak quesadilla and the enormous super king burrito. Place has changed a lot over the years and I miss eating there late at night (but understand why that's not available now)... The staff has changed but for some reason they always have had and still have the nicest employees.

I do not understand why this place isn't higher rated. Don't go in expecting anything fancy, but this place is DELICIOUS I had this for the first time in June when I got back from a month long trip to Mexico - was craving more tacos. I ordered on doordash and got a few tacos, a quesadilla, and a torta of all different meats. This is BY FAR the best Mexican food I've had in Chicago, and rivals my favorite spot from my month in Mexico. The chorizo, ground beef, al pastor, and chicken are all stellar. The steak is not amazing, but it's decent. The tacos are packed with meat. The torta has really soft bread (my fave) but don't come with as much meat. I've ordered from here about half a dozen times in the past few months and have solidified my meat/item combination. Chorizo quesadilla - salty chorizo goes perfectly with the cheesiness. A little greasy but it's ok Green chicken enchiladas - the chicken is juicy and the enchiladas are perfectly cheesy 2 Al pastor tacos 2 Ground beef tacos It also delivers and reheats super well. I order enough for 3-4 meals and I do this at least twice a month. Huge fan!! Highly recommend.

Tacos are not the same size anymore(super small) but the price remained the same. Lower quality food. Mediocre at best. You have to be extremely drunk to enjoy it( I think that's why they serve cold and tasteless food). My biggest issue is the police officers that were hired by TBK. They stand inside the restaurant patronizing customers. The entire time I felt like I was in jail!!!!!! I would not go to this restaurant as it is not worth your money or dignity. SPEND YOUR MONEY WHERE YOU ARE TREATED WITH RESPECT!!!

WE LOVE RED!!! She saved the night! Give that girl her own chain at-least. She is the only good part about this restaurant

I would give Red 5 stars. She is a dedicated employee. She deserves a promotion for her efforts. After our order was delivered wrong twice, she hand-delivered to our desk. She wanted to ensure customer satisfaction - and the customers certainly are satisfied, thanks red! Red deserves five stars only giving four stars because our order was wrong the first two times.

This was the go to spot after every long night of drinking and partying, then Covid 19 hit.... but this review I can't blame the pandemic on, this rides solely on the shoulders of the establishment. Stale taco shells... Wtf!! I ask for no tomatoes (watching my acidic intake) I got a tomato salad!!! The steak was tasty under the old lettuce...smh! You remodeled your business but your food suffered, almost four dollars for a chewy tortilla is not acceptable Homie! In Chicago there's thousands of taco spots, this spot sadly has fallen to the bottom of the list! Please ... Do better!!!

Ordered to-go chicken bowl. Bland if not totally flavorless. Beige mess of shredded chicken, rice, shredded lettuce. I had to smother it in the salsa in order to tolerate it...TBH the salsas weren't that flavorful either. On the one hand, the food was ready very quickly and it was inexpensive. I know this is a popular spot after a night out. It may taste better while intoxicated. Disclosure that I was sober when I ate this meal so may not reflect the target audience.

do not order from this location they mix old and new steak very disgusting. got me and my kids very sick!!

Food is decent and I placed a order through 3rd party app. It didn't give a estimated time for when my food would be done so I tried calling maybe 10x didn't receive an answer. When I received my food I realized the avocado I paid for wasn't on my burrito.

Eww...Maybe one step up from Chipotle...but not a big one. You can get a better meal AND a better deal elsewhere (Los Comales) This is a walk up to the counter, serve yourself, bus your own table, pay for chips and salsa (and then find a huge hair in it) kind of place. Parking sucks. It isn't super clean. And the food is incredibly mediocre while prices are higher than standard. Totally not worth it! The portion sizes are decent, but they serve their tacos Americanos (tomato, lettuce, cheese and sour cream) which is really odd for Chicago. I was disappointed, in more ways than one, but particularly because they were out of Al pastor. Chorizo dope was decent, steak tacos were mediocre. King burrito was skinny. Horchata was weak and watery. Will not return, don't recommend.

Great food, great tacos, bug burritos, my favorite TBK I've ever been too. Others don't compare

I had TBK a while back at the North Ave and Natchez location. I remember their ground beef tacos being very good, so I decided to order it at this location. I ordered via doordash last Thursday. My order arrived super fast. That's about the only good thing. Here's what I ordered: -Chicken enchilada plate. There was no sauce on these enchiladas. The chicken was so dry. The whole thing lacked flavor. -Tamales. These were steak. Also dry and lacking in flavor. -Ground beef junior burrito. So disappointing. The ground beef was not how I remembered from the other TBK. It just tasted like salted ground beef, again, lacking flavor. -Ground beef taco plate. Same as above. The rice and beans were okay, even though the rice was a bit undercooked and crunchy. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? 2 stars because it's open late.

I ordered the super nachos through Grubhub and I got a bug along with my order. Absolutely disgusting and inexcusable. Will not order ever again.

Nice spot to hit when you're feeling a bit hangry and looking for some place to grab a bite. Last time I was in the area I ordered a burrito for myself and it was up to the mark. Meat was tender and spicy as I like and all ingredients tasted good. They didn't get me waiting for a long time and handled my order much faster then I expected. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the service provided and how staff treats their customers. It doesn't take a bunch of efforts to smile and greet people but not always it looks sincere. It's definitely not about these guys. I was treated with all due respect and that's huge. During this time it's also crucial to follow all restriction measures in order to take care of each person's life and this place is committed to it. Can't wait to see it finally open so that I can give a visit and bring my friends along with me.

The food was good. Perfect temperature: i ordered the steak & eggs & yes it was tasty... for the most part. Until I seen a shiny thin object on the pile of steak. As I picked at it, I found a PIN NEEDLE on my food! Thank God it was shiny cuz it distracted me from eating more & I thank God I saw it! I don't know if this was intentionally done because I ordered through UBER. I don't know if it was someone's last day at work & decided to put pins & needles on someone's food. But GUARANTEE I will never order from them again. The food wasn't taped up & secure like normal Uber orders. So I can't really say if it was the Uber driver that fucked w my food or it was this restaurant. Regardless STAY AWAY. I'm glad I did not end up in a worse case scenario where I bit into the needle & poked my mouth up & may have caught some shit!!... ****WARNNG **** LOOK AT YOUR FOOD CLOSELY **** YOU MIGHT FIND A PIN NEEDLE ON YOUR FOOD****

I eat at TBK often. The super king burrito is about as big as my forearm and with the rice and beans combo it's my go-to filling meal. It makes me feel like a king. The place isn't without flaws though. For one, when I get the super king to go, it's so big that if they don't lay the two halves down correctly in the styrofoam container, part of one of them will become immersed in the baked beans. Within minutes, the tortilla is soggy and hard to salvage. Aside from that, freshness is somewhat of a concern. The meats never have that satisfying taste and consistency like at Chipotle, but I don't know if it's a fair comparison to draw. The burrito isn't always wrapped tight so I've suffered a blowout or two. The sour cream seems to be kept at freezing cold temperatures and makes eating the burrito kind of like wading through a mountain lake in July. Also, this place gets scary late at night, though there seemed to be a security guard on duty. I'd imagine it has something to do with proximity to the highway but--seriously--if you are the type of person who reads Yelp reviews before going to fast food Mexican restaurants you have no business eating here at 3AM.

My rating is pretty much on par with the rest of the reviews. I stopped by this place for lunch and it was fine. The lady behind the counter was nice and patient as I asked about burrito sizes and fillings, etc. The restaurant itself is a small casual taqueria feel to it. Looked clean at quick glance. So the burrito I had was fine. I probably shouldn't have gotten the king size - it was pretty big. I don't have the menu in front of me, but I would hope they have like a medium size. I do remember seeing junior sizes on the menu. Anyway, so the fillings were fine and all. Seemed fresh and the ingredients were mostly well-spread across the burrito with some pockets of cheese. I'd stop by here if I was in the area.

This restaurant is FILTHY, garbage can overflowing, tables weren't clean and trash everywhere. Owners either don't care or are clueless. Chicken was old and dry & the steak was below average. This place is a complete Kitchen Nightmare- Don't Visit!

The burrito that I purchased was really good. The overall price (with Grubhub) was a little pricey for just a burrito. I will visit in person the next time.

I am very confused as to why this place refers to themselves as the KING of burritos. I ate there for lunch today and the burrito fell apart on the second bite! I don't really know how that happens. I will not be coming back.

Y'all are tripping this food was good. We got two king burritos, one steak and one ground beef. They followed all the order instructions and the food was FAT and delicious. Kind of a gut bomb if you know what I mean but totally worth it. I would order again. Makes me a little nervous that some lady found a bug in her food like a year ago. Yikes.

Got a King Burrito (beef), it has zero flavor. Just grease. It's like they forgot to season or drain the meat. Portion wise, it's big, it's just not tasty. Money was supposed to be a dinner, they only gave me the burrito. My daughter had the tamales dinner (chicken), there was very little meat, and the flavor was bland. My son ordered the Fajitas dinner (chicken) and said it was delicious. Rice was bland. So 1 out of 3 was satisfied...won't go back.

This place is a fulfilling after hours place. Its open late and has absolutely enormous portions. Their Super Burrito which isnt even the largest size is bigger than my forearm. While very generous, there's a lack of care here at times. They sometimes don't pack boxes tightly or wrap things properly, so there might be a mess in your bag. Just double check before a pick up and you should be okay! Also try to travel here in groups late at night. Can get a bit weird.

I'm surprised seeing that these guys only have 3 starts. Maybe I'm not a picky eater?? We liked what we got. Just a couple burritos, and we split them, so we both could try 2 different kinds. Loved all the extra salsa we got with the chips, which I think they make in store....they seemed to be pretty darn fresh :) Thanks for being open, and satisfying my San Diego taste buds!!!

A delicious lunch at the The Burrito King on Jackson. Thanks for being open on Thanksgiving Day. Means a lot to have a hot and fresh meal before I take a long drive to my relatives...to eat more food. Delicious taco plate served piping hot no more than three minutes after ordering. I highly recommend you feast at The Burrito King!

Stale chips, burnt tortillas and incorrect drink order. Best thing that came out was a quesadilla. Remodel inside looks nice but food was pretty sub par.

Order was delivered cold. Beans tasted like they had gone bad. Tacos were mush. Salsa was just green water. AVOID

I go here sober. There I said it. Also for those of you that like to "GO GREEN" you will be happy to find out that TBK is a frontrunner in the "solar powered burrito" category. An article in wired magazine praised the owner of this chain for his innovation and use of solar panels at his chicago locations. I usually stay away from the burritos (so i don't have to take a mid afternoon nap under my desk), but I believe i have tried everything on the menu. My favorite is the enchilada plate, however the Torta is extremely popular among my co-workers. The service is fast and friendly, in the past couple years they have remodeled and it is the only solar powered burrito joint I know of. For the year of 2007 there is a special on the 15th of every month. King Sized Burritos are 2.99 all day (and this place is open 24 hours a day). It is celebrating their 15th birthday. YAY TBK!!! 4 stars (it is a 24/7 burrito joint after all)

Look at my picture, flauta plate, $4.99. 'Nuff said. Come here at least once every 1-2 weeks. Satisfies that hungry Mexican inside. Clean, good, fast service. The salsa for the chips can be better.

the place is ok. Really nice employees, looks real clean, and the portions are real decent for the price. I came because I got home only to find there were no groceries, didn't want to go to far so decided to try it for the first time. the food was filling and the carne asada burrito was just decent, not too much flavor. I'm also from LA and am bias when it comes to Mexican food (even though a burrito isn't Mexican good) but I was hoping for a little more. There spiciest salsa was not spicy, but the salsa verde tasted pretty decent. If you're in a time crunch, or just need some food to go late at night this is place will do the job

My husband brought me here to take me on a walk down memory lane (his memory lane) since this used to be one of his spots back in college. He's only had the steak quesadillas and said they were really good. And yes, to my surprise, they were REALLY good and had a good amount of steak in it. We ended up trying some of their tacos too since I'm a big fan of those cilantro and onion simple tacos. Unfortunately the tacos came American style with lettuce and tomatoes I think, which kinda ruined it for me. Slightly disappointed, we went to wash our hands (they have a cool little sink for customers) and my husband tapped my shoulder and pointed to the grill in their half kitchen behind the counter. Sure enough, they were making tacos with cilantro and onions. So I guess they do make if there and we just didn't know how to order it. It was good enough to come back, but not amazing. But because I saw those tacos on the grill, I might come back for one more try.

I've drank lacroix with more flavor that this food. I placed a drunken uber eats order. My standard were low and this plce still sucked. The 10 dollar nachos were literally a small bag of chips and a to go container of the nacho cheese at movie theaters, sour cream, some mcdonalds lettuce, and literally the most flavorless chicken Ive ever eaten. Like...it was boiled. No salt. No pepper. No spices at all. I love refried beans and bought a 3 dollar cup of them...it was like eating hummus, if hummus had no flavor. They boiled the beans and then tossed them in a blender with some water. My enchiladas with red mole were made with the same boiled chicken as my nachos and i dont think they know what a mole is. No flavor. None. I spent 40 dollars on this meal that even drunk me didn't enjoy.

Hubby and I ordered burritos as a quick pick up after bears game.... portion was large , flavor was good.... however I asked to use their washroom in the back and saw trays of marinated meat just sitting out ....hmmmm....other than that parking sucked and place is designed for pick up only....

If you don't like TBK you're a nutcase. I'm from New York, so I never heard of TBK until I dated someone from Chicago years ago long-distance. Came to Illinois to visit, and he brought me to TBK because he was always talking about it (he lives near one in the suburbs). It was HEAVEN to me -- and I've got plenty of Mexican restaurants near me, trust. Fast-forward a year and a half after that, when I come to Chicago with my two sisters. We spent 14 hours on the road to come so we can visit colleges I was considering in the area (because my sisters are awesome, and because they wanted a road trip anyway). After our loooooong drive, we went to a TBK in Des Plaines, and they were HOOKED. They were in love with it! We decided to drive out to Chicago that same night, and came to this TBK and all three of us were even further impressed! The food is flavorful, they're quick, and their portions are HUGE. I got the Super King burrito because why not and it was literally the size of my forearm! My sisters and I sometimes just say "Taco Burrito King" and we all just go "AWH MAAAAAN I'm hungry!!" Bottom line: IT'S BANGING.
