Best Things to Do, Eat, and Drink This Weekend in the Bay Area: April 19 - Eater SF

"On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Petaluma’s Tea Room Cafe, Malicki pushes out perfectly high-low plates that reflect his fine dining training and his affection for seasonal local produce. This weekend look for tuna tartare with green onion pancakes, crispy soft-shell crab, and a wagyu beef hamburger with cheese. Bring cash if you can though the team also accepts Venmo." - Eater Staff

Google
Very much a neighborhood restaurant/diner feel. Awesome western omelette with great potatoes and thick wonderful sourdough toast. My wife had sour cream pancakes that she said were among the best pancakes she's ever had. Very friendly efficient and helpful staff. We are from out of state so we will have to wait until the back in the area but we will definitely be coming back.

Google
Very delicious, try the Heavenly pancakes, excellent, never had better except at home. Real 🍁. Baked goods are outstanding and a great selection of GF. If you're in Petaluma stop here.

Google
Truly exceptional place! The food is consistently highly enjoyable and the space is very comfortable. We usually stick with savory options like the sausage scramble, but occasionally indulge in one of their amazingly delectable sweets (pictured: pumpkin muffin w cream frosting, which is one of the best treats I've ever had). It doesn't hurt that they also have great coffee. This is a must try for anyone who eats actual food and not just food-like products ;).

Google
We were visiting from out of state and wish we could come back and try more! It is a bit loud inside but so good! If you were near our home, we would be regulars!

Google
The food and coffee were decent, and the ambiance was pleasant. My friend and I initially ordered our food to go, spending about $50, but we decided to sit and enjoy it there once we saw there were plenty of open tables. We had already started eating peacefully when an old woman approached us, who turned out to be the owner. She asked us to leave because we had ordered our food to go, delivering her request in an incredibly rude and dismissive tone. When I asked if it was for real, she even said, Yes, because I’m the owner. The experience left a bad impression, and I’ll definitely take my business elsewhere. Terrible customer service!

Google
Their famous pancakes were gone and the alternatives I wanted were gone too. So, I had some buttermilk pancakes and a chorizo sandwich. They were okay but I'm not sure I would wait in line for those again. They're so popular that you'd think you can order their specials by breakfast time.

Google
It had been way too long since I had been to Tea Room Cafe, and I'm so glad I made it back today! Such a great variety of options for breakfast and lunch! I had the Croissant BLT +egg breakfast sandwich and it was SO delicious! The perfect amount of creamy mayo, crispy bacon, flavorful tomato, lettuce mix and buttery, flax croissant. I'll definitely be ordering it again! I've been on an Arnold Palmer kick lately, and theirs was the best I've had-it's all in the lemonade! Great side of fruit, too! This is an 'order at the counter place', and I really appreciated that they asked if I wanted to sit inside or out, and suggested table options. PS Do not miss out on their chocolate cookies! Perfect flavor and consistency!

Google
A cozy and charming cafe with indoor and outdoor seating. They have vegan items on menu and I got the tofu scramble, vegan banana bread and mocha in oat milk. I enjoyed the breakfast but would love to see vegan pancakes and more plantbased options for next time.

Yelp
Went for Breakfast Food - 5/5. Scone was moist with a nice bite on the crust. Earl grey aroma was strong, giving the scone a savory flavor. It was very crumbly, which is by design, so adding the jam and butter was awkward. Croissant bread pudding was fantastic! Texture was smooth with a good amount of egg, but not too much that it starts resembling a quiche. Chocolate was decadent and I enjoyed that it was the main flavor profile. Bread puddings can notoriously contain surprise raisins, but this one was straight to the point; delicious chocolatey goodness with eggy croissant. Service - 4/5. Quick and friendly. Water is self serve. Value - 5/5. Pastry prices are standard with the scone being $5 and bread pudding being $6.50. Sales tax does get added as it is a restaurant, not a bakery. Portion sizes are good and the pastries were delicious. Great spot for breakfast. Parking - Street (Free)

Yelp
Good brunch spot in Victorian downtown Petaluma with tasty breakfast items, and friendly but slow service. Cue up to order, then at time of order you'll be assigned a numbered table. That initial line took fifteen minutes. But the real wait at Tea Room Cafe came after putting in the our food order. Total wait from our arrival at the cafe to receiving food: forty five minutes. That's quite a wait. Opting to dial up on my review because the food itself was tasty and their eggs were the right doneness. We had a chorizo scramble, a single order of a smoked Gouda cheesy potato pancake with harissa and sour cream, and a sausage scramble with mushroom and spinach, with eggs cooked lightly, and just right. We left with a delicious malt chocolate chip cookie, called a "salty malty" made in-house. Three stars for service (friendly, but overwhelmed) and four for food. Quaint atmosphere: farmhouse decor full of vintage chachkies, crows and cows. Come here if you like a relaxed breakfast and are not in a hurry.

Yelp
Tea Room Cafe is one of my go to spots to meet up with friends! They have a vast brunch menu, and I have loved everything I've tried. There is outdoor seating which is always a plus, and is located in the heart of downtown Petaluma. The inside has large windows letting in a lot of natural light, and has a cute simple farmhouse vibe. This time I got the vanilla latte which was huge and delicious! It came in a cup that was so large it was practically a bowl. I also got a slice of banana bread (with shredded coconut) and it was just as incredible. The service is pretty quick and everyone was super nice. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Horrible horrible place to come. The race is their profile you they treat the white privilege better. I didn't get my food till 20 minutes later. My food was burnt. The drink was trash. Can't even make a perfect me so like how do you mess up on that like be for real And then people after me got attended first but I got served like Rosa Park. It's BS and it was my first time. Don't even come here. I don't understand why it still has service. It should be shut down and canceled.

Yelp
Came in for a quick bite to eat on a late Friday morning. They were fairly busy, seems like a popular breakfast/brunch spot. They have a large menu selection for breakfast and lunch. You order/pay at the counter and then they'll bring your food to you. The food was delicious! I ordered a potato cake and an iced chai latte. I will definitely be coming back for more potato cakes in the future. They have indoor and outdoor seating available. Opted to sit indoors since we had a party of 5 and most of the outdoor seating was filled up. Restroom was looking a little run down and dirty. All of the staff members were so friendly and the service was quick - despite them being busy.

Yelp
Have enjoyed the Tea Room for years but on two recent visits I was very disappointed with the attitude and quality of food. Went to tea room with a infant, service dog and three adults. We needed a larger table so pushed a smaller table and was chastised by one of the employees. The restaurant was almost empty. The server was brisk in his manner. Ordered the salmon plate. It had one piece of salmon and lots of fill. Not very tasty. I will not be returning. I recommend the Bistro or Della for great food, ambience and service.

Yelp
Excellent. Very quality ingredients, delicious food, and a charming decor. Will be back!

Yelp
A quaint spot to grab a book, gather with friends, or fill your belly with tasty food. The portions are not shy. The baked goods are calling your name as it's love at first sight. You walk up and get in line. I've always seen a line. Place your order, pay, and grab a seat. You'll have a table number to take with you. There's a wait as your food is prepared with love. It's a small kitchen so things come out as it's ready. The food is so tasty and portions are large. Take your time and enjoy! The Johnny cakes are lot to be missed. I rarely see it on the menus so take advantage. It's a cornbread pancake in all the best ways. The papas bravas is must. This is a hefty portion to soak up those $10 mimosas. The P-Town hash is crunchy, hearty, and filled with veggies. It's topped with poached eggs to that kiss of decadence. Seriously, this is a spot to relax and enjoy. You won't regret it.

Yelp
Just visiting, had French toast!!! Amazing, very generous serving. Nice decor and great service.

Joe A.

Yelp
I usually get the basic 2 egg breakfast. The sourdough toast with Jam is so delicious. Everything is always cooked perfectly. The staff is very nice. We also usually get a baked good to eat while our food is being prepared. The baked goods here are always so good. It's a great atmosphere with wonderful food. This is without a doubt my fav place in Petaluma for breakfast/brunch.

Yelp
Easily one of my favorite spots in Marin/ Sonoma area. I have been coming here since they opened and the quality has never been compromised. The heart and soul of the business is the owner who you will find in the kitchen helping to get the amazing food out to guests always at a reasonable time. Everyone who works there is friendly and helpful. My favorite thing about this place is they have food you won't find in other menus. I love to cook so when I go out I pick spots where I couldn't have made it better myself. I love the cool crow theme going on too. Their decor has always been something I admired. I will leave you with this. When I'm having a particularly bad day, it's the Tea Room food that helps lift my spirits.

Yelp
Oh, WOW!! I'm amazed at how tasty the food Is here!! It's like they squished in the flavor of ten dishes into one. We got the pork curry and crab fried rice. Both were incredible! SO MUCH FLAVOR, balanced and just the right amount of fried on the fried rice, subtle enough curry to not overwhelm all of the other flavors. If I could give this restaurant 10 stars, I would. You won't be disappointed.

Yelp
The is a cute little cafe. I wish the food had more seasoning or something more special. I would probably come back for a drink, but not the food.

Michael E.

Yelp
My favorite chill brunch spot. I order ANY special they have that day! Also the fresh baked pastries are amazing.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Delicious food, my they got my order wrong. The waiter delivering the food was snappy. The place was very loud. If you're conversing, recommend sitting outside. This place has so much going for it...if only for the servers.
google avatar

Kate L.

Yelp
Love this little place. The Alice in Wonderland art is so cute! We got potato cakes, eggs, and a quinoa bowl. All of it was good. It took a while but it's ok...I'd rather have food that someone put some time into rather than slopping it on a plate. Nice staff.

Aubreana A.

Yelp
Great food, but incompetent, unfriendly, and unhelpful service. The tip suggestion rates are a bit silly for (poor) counter service.

Yelp
Was looking for a new breakfast place and stumbled onto Tea Room. Things you need to know: This is a self seat kind of place. They ask you to order at the counter then they will hand you an number. Take the number and find a table and they will bring your food to you. I walked myself over to a outdoors table that someone just left. The wait staff was really quick at coming out and clearing and cleaning the table. It was a bit of a wait for the food but nothing out of the ordinary for Sonoma restaurants. As for the food we ordered: Smoked salmon toast: there was a good amount of cream cheese, I almost wish there was a bit more salmon but overall the flavors melded well with one another. Potato Cakes: I only ordered one and immediately regretted it. The harissa on top was phenomenal! Sour cream was nice and thick on top of a crispy potato cake. Definitely one of the best I've had. Buttermilk Pancakes: Fluffy and rich, the butter was most melted by the time it got to our table. A good sign imo. The pancake itself was a bit undercooked for my taste but still good. Side of eggs and bacon: bacon was thick and perfectly cooked. Cappuccino: the Hubby enjoyed it. KT's Elixer: warm lemonade with honey, cayenne and ginger. This was prefer for a chilly morning. Normally not a fan of ginger but this came through nicely. I would highly recommend. Overall another great breakfast find!

Yelp
Really enjoyed our breakfast Got the following: Huevos rancheros: 4 stars, the sauce was great, loved the pickled onions. Would have liked more salt in the beans Pancakes with eggs and bacon: 4 stars overall, the pancakes were great (5 stars) but the bacon was overcooked and the eggs were average Also got a chair latte - 3.5 stars, a little light on the chair flavor, and a little on the sweet side Will come back!

Yelp
This restaurant is BUSY in the morning so come early to get a table or plan on doing take out. The food is good though and the lattes are enormous. We had the French toast, the morning glory bread, a cinnamon roll to split, an almond croissant, several cappuccinos, and the frittata. I think the only thing that wasn't devoured was the croissant, but more likely because we over ordered rather than the food. This is a nice place; loud inside and very crowded but great breakfast food.

Yelp
I have one issue with Tea Room Cafe. The eggs Benedict is so good I can't seem to bring myself to try anything else. My eating buddies have and they are always happy so, I guess go with that. Oh, there is another issue I have with Tea Room Cafe. It's very good so it's very popular. So it gets busy on weekend mornings. They need to leave a plastic rat someplace, just once, to scare people off for just a short time. I'm the Yelp Duke here so I think I should get some extra Benedict here. I mean benefits. See? Whenever I'm here it's all about the Benedict. Oh wait. Another issue I have with Tea Room Cafe. The whipped cream on the mocha. I posted a photo. It is so massive that on my first sip my face is covered in cream like a scene from Mrs Doubtfire. So yes I have issues.... with Tea Room Cafe. I hope they make the required adjustments.

Yelp
service was horrible because there was multiple tables open and i was in a party of 3, and we had ordered our food to go so we wouldn't have to ask for a box when we left. the lady approaches us and says that we can't be here because she has other customers that want to sit and she says this as if we aren't paying customers as well. never coming here again

H C.

Yelp
A go to for brunch in Petaluma. I always get a feast of their tofu scramble, vegan banana bread, and a latte bowl. It can be tricky to find a plant based breakfast high in protein at a restaurant, but Tea Room satisfies this. With the tofu scramble, you get a choice of beans or greens (a salad) to go with it, which are both great options depending on your appetite. The atmosphere is best for smaller groups, and during peak times can be a little of a line but the food always makes it worth it. My family raves about their goat cheese omelette and scones, being a great choice for many varieties of dietary restrictions. The staff is always very friendly, which adds to the positive experience.

Jeanie R.

Yelp
Love the pancakes! Homemade and perfect for this medium weather in the morning. Thanks for all the fresh ingredients and nice service. Be

Yelp
Food was decent but not worth a 45 minute wait and horrible non-existent customer service. We came last summer because someone told us it was good, but at the time we were told we couldn't grab a table before ordering so we left. Not going to order food without knowing I have a place to sit. This time it was half empty. It was a Monday. Ordered grilled cheese sandwiches. After 45 minutes we asked a woman who works there where our food was. She just snapped it's coming. Then brought our salads out and said, it's about to go on the grill. So after 45 minutes they hadn't even started cooking it yet! Hate to go on a busy day! We won't be back.

Taghreed A.

Yelp
Busy spot with Long wait lines. No reservations , first come first serve. Overpriced breakfeast spot with small portion sizes. The Freshly squeezed orange with pulp was delicious and refreshing. The croissant egg sandwich with avocado was pretty bland and in need of salt/pepper. It was brought out cold. the croissant was pretty tiny relative to all ingredients inside which End up falling out of the sandwich. Seating is very limited making it difficult despite having indoor and outdoor seating . Staff was friendly and parking is little difficult on weekends but manageable . Don't think I'll come back to this spot.

David S.

Yelp
Ordered 3 items, 1 pancake, an egg scramble, and an egg sandwich. Took 35 minutes to get our food. Roasted potatoes were squishy, egg scramble under cooked. 30 minutes to get food, and you expected the meal to be the greatest breakfast you ever had, but it was barely edible a best. Could not even take another bite.

Marilyn T.

Yelp
Overall we like the tea room, have found that you need to watch what you're charged as it's sometimes a higher price than stated on the menu.
google avatar

Noreen M.

Yelp
Food was delicious and staff was welcoming. Dog friendly as well! Highly recommend. It might looks small, but tables open up fairly quickly. Worth the wait.

Darryl C.

Yelp
I guess this is one of those places that has been ruined by its success. Went for my son's birthday breakfast this morning, and I seated the kids while I stood in line to order. We were told rather brusquely that it wasn't allowed to sit until after ordering. That seems to be a spottily applied policy, as I saw several seniors holding large tables for friends without ordering. The food is still good, but we probably won't be going back.

Markel A.

Yelp
Vegan Banana Bread, amazing customer service and sweet caring people, need I say more!

Waelyn L.

Yelp
I got the French toast which was very good I also tried a few of there other foods and they were all very good. What I don't like about this place is the service. While some of the staff is really nice the other half is not. There are also a few different rules in the restaurant like you can't clear your plate and they must seat you. The setting is great though love the little Cafe vibe.

Kris C.

Yelp
Delicious food. You order at the counter and they tell you where to sit. Wish there was more table service (ie, drink refills) but over all great.
google avatar

Jessa E.

Yelp
We absolutely love the atmosphere and food A+! As a business owner myself they need to do some digging on the customer service side. I am not going to say we will never come back because we like everything except the service. Specifically they have been changing the way they do things like the line and getting a table yourself vs waiting for them to give you one. As a business if you make changes don't be rude, be kind it's that simple. My husband and I noticed this behavior encourages the folks customers here to be rude as well, it's bizarre every visit there is a problem. I was scolded for choosing my table this time as I had done my last five visits, instead of a polite I'm sorry we changed things, it was so bad I almost left on the spot. Then when there was a only one table left that we were "assigned to", they proceeded to ask the people in line right in front of us, making sure I could hear her, not once but FIVE times if they wanted to sit and eat to which they responded each of the five times they were asked "NO we are taking the food Togo..." they actually seemed irritated to be asked so many times! If they said yes she propositioned folks who were Togo to sit in the last table causing us to have to wait I don't know how long for the next table to open. Why in the world would you create a situation like that? It had to be intentional she wouldn't stop asking them. So if you don't want me at your business I won't be there as much very sad for the owners. You seem to be stressed and understaffed.

Yelp
Had breakfast here on Saturday morning. The place was busy with both seating inside and outside. The interior is rustic and I mean that in a good way with different types of paintings and furniture and other mismatched items. Especially enjoyed seeing Alice in Wonderland lithographs hung on the wall. Turning to the food I decided to have their frittata which included Green onions and a variety of veggies. The frittata was tasty and of ample size and included some small potato wedges on the side which were also quite delicious. Also enjoyed their jasmine green tea which was a loose leaf variety and obviously of quality. Service was friendly and prompt considering the number of customers. I recommend the place which is obviously quite popular with the locals.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Returning from Bodega Bay at noon, my wife suggested breakfast. Being Monday, I was doubtful, but we found the place. She loved her omelet and the grab your own coffee. Very clean and the staff were all friendly and helpful. The only blemish was listening to a three year old play a loud game on his mom's phone. It was annoying particularly because the cafe had a shelve full of children's books and a full butcher paper roll and plenty of crayons. This new parent practice of using a phone as a baby sitter is wrong.

Yelp
This breakfast cafe was so outstanding ! A great find . Potato pancakes are so delicious , so filling and tasty ,seasoned with herbs. Their pastries are fresh baked from early in the morning . I had a morning glory loaf was out of this world , by the time I went back for more to bring home , the loaf was gone. Even the jasmine green tea was so nice , not bitter at all. Yes next Sunday try this place for breakfast if you are in Petaluma California !!!!!
google avatar

Christina P.

Yelp
Best little cafe in Petaluma! Food is always amazing! Breakfast or lunch ... try the avocado toast!

Rosalee M.

Yelp
It was our first time here!! Such a cute place!! Food was amazing and the service was great! I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
The food is alright. Definitely not worth 40 minutes of wait time for 2 simple preheated breads, Like cmon. As I'm writing this, the bread still hasn't been taken to us. Horrible wait time. Do not recommend.

Yelp
A fabulous eatery like we used to enjoy- but a rare find these days. Food was phenomenal find- if you are lucky enough to happen upon this magical place. I came in at closing time at 2 pm- And everyone took the time to make sure I was happily waited upon. All the people there were helpful and friendly- the chef Patrick was talented, warm hearted and went out of his way to make sure I had what I needed. I am a particular customer and they didn't seem to mind that.... - previous chef and professional baker, turned medical professional

Yelp
Excellent Quality and Tasty Food , The Gluten Free Pancake was Delicious. We are going back .

Yelp
Came here for the first time over the weekend and it was an amazing experience. The staff were all very friendly and the food was delicious! Before we left, my boyfriend was already planning our next visit lol. The Mexican mocha was delicious!!

Yelp
Took the first bite and had to stop to take a picture! One of the best sandwiches I've ever had! Hands-down !(CBC) Also the wonderful customer service was very welcoming and inviting from the front to the back of house. I will return back ! (:

Yelp
The space is a little small but the quality of food is insane! We went on a rainy Saturday and it was packed but I actually enjoy a place that is really busy, it means that it's good! Even though it was busy, the food came out at the perfect time. The brewed coffee is delicious and I love their latte bowls! The pancakes are the best we have ever had! I also had the pesto scramble with potatoes. Highly recommend and we will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
Breakfast of champions, made my champions! First order of business, order the Buttermilk Pancakes. These pancakes right here! Light, fluffy and ever so delicious. Top them with the maple syrup, that tastes as if it came right from the trees of Canada. Sorry Mrs. Butterworth's, you are not invited. Along with the pancakes I enjoyed the Avocado Omelet, filled with chunks of avocado and a creamy goat cheese. Oh! The potatoes that accompany the omelet are buttery, lightly salted and some of the best roasted potatoes you can ask for. Even the sourdough was toasted just how I like it. How did they know?! A mini side of preserves to spread across the toast, really complete this breakfast of champions. The Team Room seems to be very popular with the locals. It gets very busy here but the staff appear to be accustomed to the hustle and bustle. The only suggestion that I have, is they add an additional barista during rush hour. We waited over 15 minutes for our cappuccino. There are self-serve containers of drip coffee inside. Don't leave your dog at home after the morning walk, there are approximately 5 tables where you can enjoy your meal outside with your furry friend. Since the Tea Room faces south-east, you can count on the sun to keep you toasty on a lazy afternoon. Fortunately, The Team Room is walking distance for me, you can be sure to catch me enjoying a stack regularly!

Caitlin C.

Yelp
Everything is always top notch here. My all time favorite is the Ménage a trios breakfast. I love coming here but it is often extremely noisy, if you want to have a conversation.
google avatar

Lori R.

Yelp
This place basically screams Petaluma. It was a funny little hipster place where you drink coffee out of bowls and people with beards and skinny jeans taken your order. You walk up, order, and proceed to battle for a table. The menu was really interesting, but the kitchen was small so I was limited with gluten free options. Please note the gluten free pancake is cooked on the same griddle and is NOT gluten free if you have celiac. Stick with the scrambles and ask for a clean pan to be used. I also got corn tortillas instead of toast. The server did his best to help me order, but this wasn't as gluten free friendly as other places. But there was an effort made and the ambiance is charming, portions are big and the food was good. I personally get a bit stressed to find seating, but there was enough and I was relaxed once seated. It is somewhere I'll go again when I'm in town.

Yelp
The portion sizes here are ridiculously small and Maddie's Mix should be re-named the, "Onion Scramble" A TON OF GRILLED ONIONS!! You use Turkey deli meat?? The potato pancakes were amazing. I could probably eat these potato pancakes all day. They tasted that heavenly but they looked no where near the pictures of the ample sized potato pancakes on yelp from years ago. Teeny tiny :-( You get a choice of potatoes or greens with your breakfast and I opted for potatoes and they tasted like perfection. They were warm & crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside....melted in your mouth. I tasted a little bit of sour cream too. Wasn't sure if that was on purpose or by accident but it worked.
