The 9 Best Boba Shops In Houston

"Tea Top is a quieter outpost in Chinatown’s Don Huang Plaza, made for the utilitarian bubble tea drinker. Walk in and glance at the menu, if you’d like, or just go straight for an organic taro milk tea that’s textured but not gritty. Keep this place in your back pocket for a boba tea stop that won’t be jam-packed during peak hours." - gianni greene

Google
how to get a perfect matcha latte: >first order matcha latte >30% less sugar >regular ice >no toppings >and then shake violently before putting a straw enjoy the pure matcha folks—not with overly sweet sugar—but a true pure matcha latte

Jennifer Vu

Google
Really enjoyed my sun moon late milk tea from them! I got 50% sugar which was a tad too sweet but will try 30% next time. The tea is pretty fragrant and they are generous w the boba toppings. Price is also very affordable!!

Liz Tran

Google
I’ve been going here for a long time. They are always consistent with their drinks and toppings. Boba is soft and chewy. With a hint of sweetness. The best taro milk tea because they use real taro chunks, if that’s what you prefer.

Bryan Yoz

Google
The taste of the tea was just fine, not impressive; the pearl and grass jelly tasted good though. I didn’t feel the cashier was friendly. She kind of pushed to place the order and was impatient. The store interior and the restroom looked clean in general. The interior design and arrangement were not favorite.

Google
Hey there, I am so excited to tell you about this incredible place that my nephew couldn't stop raving about! Seriously, it has become one of my all-time favorite spots in the China Town Shopping Center. Let me just say, it's not only spotlessly clean and well-maintained, but the staff there is unbelievably friendly and provides lightning-fast service. And oh my goodness, their drinks are out of this world! One drink that I absolutely love is the Number 4 Mung Bean Milk Slush - it's so refreshing, it's like a taste of heaven. Trust me, you have to try it! By the way, while you're there, I highly recommend going for 50-75% sugar. It's the perfect balance to enhance the flavors even more. Enjoy!

Google
We ordered an earl grey Boba and a mango smothie. Both drinks were delicious and the ratio of tea to boba was perfect. We will definitely be back!

Google
First time trying it tonight. It was really great! Tastes delicious! And they have other toppings you can add to the drink in addition to the boba. I got an earl grey milk tea with boba and pudding in it too. Yummy and fast too. Nice seating area with tables and nice decor also.

Google
The wintermelon tea was yummy, but the tapioca was really small and didn’t feel fresh. Also, the customer service was unfortunately really bad. When placing my order, the cashier interrupted me to ask if I wanted a cap or seal for my drink, which resulted in her misunderstanding my choice of tea. When my order was oolong rather than wintermelon, I went back to see if they could correct it and the cashier just rolled her eyes at me while another stepped in to help. I ended up getting the right tea eventually, but I haven’t experienced customer service that poor in a long time.

Yelp
My friend raves about the Tea Tops in Houston and swears it's better than the one we have in the DC area, and she was not capping! The interior is nice and clean with the typical Tea Top colors and decor. The ingredients they use for their drinks are fresh and high quality. Between the three of us, we shared two drinks because we were already incredibly stuffed from two lunches and egg tarts that we enjoyed before getting boba. MILK FOAM WINTERMELON DRINK 奶蓋冬瓜 - 5.75 + cheese cap + less ice + 50% sweet + 0.65 for agar boba I love that they give you a lid where you can enjoy the wintermelon drink and boba through a straw and a sippy opening to try some of the cheese cap. For whatever reason, this refreshingly sweet and savory cheesy combination worked incredibly well. The agar boba isn't a must, but its jelly-like chewiness was a nice texture addition. I would prefer it a little less sweet, but this was what one of my friends wanted. YOGURT LYCHEE LEMON 荔枝檸檬多多 - 6.25 + less ice + 30% sweet + 0.65 for coconut jelly The sharp tanginess of this drink combined with the citric acidity of the lemon was a bit shocking, but in a good way. There's a lot of yakult and the tropical flavors of lychee in the drink. The coconut jelly helped balanced some of the sour flavors with its mellow sweetness, but this was overall a phenomenal drink that's unique. I would prefer 0% sweet since the yakult on its own is already pretty sugary. The drinks at this Tea Top location was solid and I would recommend checking it out. We didn't get any drinks with tea, but I'll try something tea-based next time.

Yelp
Tea Top consistently delivers on quality and service. The staff is always friendly and welcoming, similar to the Katy location. I'm especially obsessed with their Jasmine tea with regular milk foam! The floral aroma of the tea pairs perfectly with the creamy, subtly sweet and salty foam. Their crushed ice lemon green tea is also refreshing and the perfect drink for a hot summer day!

Yelp
Teatop's winter melon alpine milk tea is the way to go. This used to be one of my favorite places because of their taro ball toppings, but unfortunately, they took it away. Without taro balls, their milk tea isn't good enough to pull me to continue coming. Despite this, service is still good and interior is big with many tables to sit at. Still a convenient place to get some boba in the dun huang plaza.
google avatar

Kaylee T.

Yelp
My favorite place to get any milk tea/fruit tea in the DunHuang plaza! The tea is brewed in house and tastes great each time. My favorite is the wintermelon alpine milk tea or taro milk tea (they use real taro!!). Great study spot too.
google avatar

Kacee T.

Yelp
A great place to study and get work done, seats are slightly uncomfy because it's a wooden bench and there's an extra long table if you don't mind sitting with strangers! If you like your traditional boba milk teas and you LOVE toppings - teatop is the place to go. Half my drink is always topping which I high key love. This is my go to especially if you want more than just the typical boba pearls. When I can't decide what topping I want, I just get the one that has 3 different toppings haha. Almost feels more like a meal than a drink

Yelp
Highlight: Signature Alpine Green Tea The tea had a fragrant aroma and smooth taste. A little bit on the sweet side but overall this drink is great. Hospitality: Super fast service. Got my drink within two minutes of ordering it. Honorable Mention: Quaint little shop and has the best prices I have seen for tea in a while.

Yelp
I came here with a couple of friends, and ordered a yogurt grapefruit which was good, and not too sweet! My friend had ordered a rose milk tea with 0 sugar and let me try some, which to my surprise, was still pleasantly sweet for a drink with 0 sugar. The rose milk tea flavor was actually so perfect, I had to order one to go for the next day! BEGGING tea top to keep this as a regular menu item and not just a seasonal one The service is really fast and the place is usually always pretty lively when I visit.

Yelp
Tea Top truly is the top tea you can get in Houston. I've gotten to try 3 milk teas here: the classic black milk tea, sun moon lake milk tea, and alpine milk tea. All 3 were excellent but this is how I would rank them: 1. Sun moon lake 2. Alpine 3. Black The sun moon lake tea they serve is really special. Such a unique aroma that's hard to find elsewhere. In fact, I can't remember the last time I saw this tea on a menu. The alpine also has a nice fragrance. Finally, the tapioca pearls have been perfectly sweet and chewy each time. I'll be back without a doubt to try more of their milk teas! Good amount of seating here as well!
google avatar

Victor N.

Yelp
The signature Alpine Green Tea was extremely good, perfectly balanced between tea flavor and sweetness. The price was surprisingly cheap at around $4.90, and the drinks were ready in no time. I've been here before and will definitely keep coming back! There was a lot of seating available in the establishment and a restroom.

Yelp
Came here after some dinner and it was packed on a Friday night. I got the wintermelon alpine green milk tea and loved it. Their wintermelon here is strong and I love the tea flavor. They are very fast with making the drinks here as well. Definitely my favorite place to get wintermelon milk tea

Yelp
My go to order here is the sun moon lake tea with milk foam (less ice, 80% sugar). The milk foam compliments the tea with the perfect amount of creaminess, depth, and earthiness. There's also a slight saltiness that balances the sweetness. Will always recommend this to all my friends.

Yelp
Tea Top is a very well-loved boba shop in Houston's Chinatown. The prices are slightly lower than the newer, "trendy" boba shops. Many of my friends say this is their favourite boba in Houston, including the friend I met up with during this visit. We came on a Sunday evening to chat and work. It wasn't very busy. I really like how they have a long table with many chairs, which saves space and maximizes seating. This feels like a more authentic boba shop that caters towards East Asian taste. Their menu is extensive and very accommodating. I really appreciate how they have a non-caffeinated section and a note about how all the fresh milk drinks use dairy-free milk. They have pictures of their top 10 drinks. My friend got the alpine green tea, which is their #1 drink. I thought it was kind of bitter, even though it had full sugar. I wasn't really into it, but my friend really likes it every time he goes. I got the fresh milk trifecta, which is their #2 drink. It comes with grass jelly, red bean, and tapioca. You can't adjust the sugar level because they don't add any extra sugar to it. Because they use fresh milk, and it's caffeine free, it doesn't have the classic milk tea flavour. The drink was not sweet, and the toppings were not sweet either, except for the red beans which were a little sweet. I enjoyed eating through my drink, but I wasn't very impressed by the taste. The price was $6.44 for their default tall size, which I found very reasonable. Parking in the surface lot of this plaza is a bloodbath. I recommend parking on the second floor of the free garage that is attached to Tea Top and its neighbouring restaurants. Walk over to the second floor restaurants from the garage and take the stairs down.

Yelp
Ok so this place is a tad more expensive but this has real taro and taro tapioca balls!!! Can I tell you how exciting that it?! Plus their alpine green tea with milk foam is straight fire. I went back twice within a week. Not proud of it but pretty glad I gave this place a second chance. Will be back for the other specials shortly ...
google avatar

Matthew C.

Yelp
Pretty good drinks. I enjoyed the jasmine sea salt foam and the strawberry watermelon drinks. The tea drinks actually have a good strong tea flavor, not just milk and sugar. Visit if in the area!
google avatar

Cherry A.

Yelp
I got 8 lucky words for you: brown sugar, jasmine milk tea, Boba, regular sweet. Amazing smooth taste with beautiful jasmine finish. Well priced, clean bathrooms and prompt service. Highly recommend I will return for something warm, sweet and satisfying.
google avatar

Linh T.

Yelp
I came back to Tea Top again for their taro slushy, but it didn't taste as great as last time. It's still real taro, I just don't know what was different about it this time :( I'll definitely be coming back to try other drinks!
google avatar

Trish C.

Yelp
Seriously , after visit this place is nothing like I heard. First of all, the cashier is not professional when taking ordered. The employees there shaking their head enjoy the loud music more than they focus on work . It really annoying when you order and she cashier keep looking at her phone. Got Matcha Red bean and it so bad. Paper cup look so cheap, No matcha flavor and the drink itself is super sweet. It cost over $7 bucks! So I tried to finish the drink but end up threw the Matcha red bean away . I don't know how they able to open so many locations with really bad quality drinks and trained unprofessional employees like this. I Haven't found a good quality bubble tea Shop since I moved to Houston yet.
google avatar

M L.

Yelp
This place is narrow with seating along the right and left walls of the space. I have not returned back in a long while. Now I remember why. Customer service is lacking. I asked if they can give me more tea and less milk since their drinks usually taste like watered down milk. You cannot taste the tea flavors here. The cashier girl said no since their recipe does not allow for changes. Very odd since other places will allow customizations. Seriously, you just need to add more tea and less milk so the drink does not taste so diluted.
google avatar

Jan T.

Yelp
Super mediocre watered down tea. Got the special alpine green tea boba with fresh milk and no sugar, so I can taste the tea. It was still slightly sweet. Seems to have been watered down to decrease sweetness instead of being made fresh. Definitely far from special. Tea has been sitting there all day. Only saving grace was the boba was nice and chewy.
google avatar

Vannisa T.

Yelp
We were doing a few errands and found ourselves wanting some boba. Yelp came to the rescue again. We found this gem using our map. Let's talk about location. It is easy to find as it faces the Main Street, and there's plenty of parking. When we entered it is a modestly sized business and the interior is modern, but cozy. There's also limited seating. They have many drinks on the menu and customizable levels of sweetness. It is important to note that the Thai tea comes presweetened, so it cannot be adjusted. They'll add ice to dilute the beverage. The other drinks seem to be adjustable. The staff is efficient, friendly and quick with the orders. We got Thai tea with boba and matcha mil tea with grass jelly. The drinks were delicious and not watered down. Overall this is a great spot for a quick grab, but not to sitting to talk.
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
I got the Sun Moon Lake tea with 30% sugar and egg custard ($6). You can really taste the tea! I liked the texture of the egg custard, and it was not too sweet. They were also nice enough to give us samples of their alpine green tea. Service was fast and the interior is clean.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite boba places in Houston Chinatown. I always get the Earl Gray Milk Tea with 3Q's and it is hands down the best drink there. It is a delicious milk tea with boba, grass jelly, and coconut jelly so definitely a bang for your buck with all the toppings included. I would recommend lowering the sugar levels even as someone who usually gets 100% sweetness. There is a fair amount of seating available considering the size of the establishment; however, if you like to study with minimal noise I would not really recommend studying here unless you have noise canceling headphones since it can get fairly loud from the machines. The service is good and the bobaristas usually get drinks out in a reasonable manner even when they are busy.
google avatar

Lacey D.

Yelp
My husband ordered the tiger milk tea with the brown sugar boba and I ordered the strawberry green tea with aloe Vera. His tea needed a little more tea and a little less milk. He liked the boba. Mine had an enjoyable flavor and I liked the real strawberry pieces. The aloe Vera was. A little bit of a letdown, it didn't have that fresh, crispness I'm used to. Overall these were good drinks but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back.
google avatar

Claire C.

Yelp
This place is delicious!! Perfect spot to grab a quick boba will passing through or spending the day in Chinatown. The place is small but clean and there is a lot of seating options. Bathrooms were clean as well. I got the taro milk tea with boba. The service was SUPER fast and the staff was very friendly. I'd never had taro milk tea with taro paste and the staff explained that to me before I ordered it. My friend got the Wintermelon Alpine Green Milk Tea with cheese foam. I tried a sip and it was also really delicious. I will definitely be back!
google avatar

Kirsten D.

Yelp
This chain is one of the few places where I've been able to find Ginger Milk Tea that doesn't have a weird aftertaste and actually tastes like ginger. The one in Katy is able to offer it in Iced form but the Bellair location does not. Not really a problem when it's cold outside, since having a hot cup of tea is great. The ginger flavor isn't fake or artificial tasting and has a bit of a kick when it's in hot tea form. I really like it. The service was great and the lady who took my order had a genuine smile on her face. Made me happy. The ambiance is a bit on the loud side just because everything is concrete and metal but it wasn't too much of a bother because my order came very quickly and I was out. I'd come back again.
google avatar

Andrew W.

Yelp
Nice and quick service! Amount is good and nice vibe is provided! Fun place to hang out with people! Tea food is waiting for you! :) Come and get your cheers
google avatar

Michelle Y.

Yelp
Service was really fast! I want to say I was in and out in about 5 mins. The drink was really good too with the perfect amount of sweetness even though I got less sweet! Got a couple of good photo spots as you can see. Has a few tables for you to hangout while drinking your drink. With the amount of boba shops around this area I wouldn't mind going here again to try different drinks!
google avatar

Samantha W.

Yelp
Yummy jasmine milk tea. I appreciate that they use fresh milk. The boba is good, good portion, cooked nicely, not too sweet. Wasn't really a fan of the passion fruit tea because it had no real passionfruit or real passion fruit taste. Basically artificial flavoring.
google avatar

Kyle W.

Yelp
This place stands out for having a tea that I haven't really seen in boba places before - the Sun Moon Lake tea. I decided to give this a try - Sun Moon Lake milk tea with boba, and the milk tea is very flavorful and a lot different than the traditional house milk tea. It has a nice hint of floral taste to it which I enjoy. The boba texture is a bit too soft for my liking and kind of ruined the drink, but otherwise, this place distinguishes itself based off their tea selections. It also has nice ambience, especially the Instagrammable wall to take some pictures!
google avatar

Tina L.

Yelp
Consistently good tea! My favorite is their mango green tea and when other places have not been satisfying, Tea Top is always reliable.
google avatar

Timmy L.

Yelp
This place is located in the front left part of the shopping center. This is one of my favorite tea places to go too as they never disappoint. I never had an bad experience with them and the various drinks I got, they all tasted good. I normally get their oolong milk foam as my go-to drink but was craving Thai tea and it was good. I would recommend you try this place if you haven't before!!
google avatar

Abigail L.

Yelp
Nice little spot for bubble tea. I love that they use real taro! My husband didn't like the texture of the real taro in the drink, but I loved it! Line goes by fast with their quick service. So glad we tried it and we'll definitely be back to try more items from their extensive menu.
google avatar

Samantha J.

Yelp
It's probably time I update my review since according to Yelp I've been here 40+ times now. Of all the tapioca places in Houston they're still my favorite overall. I usually get their drinks at 30 or 50% sweetness. My favorites are: Cheese foam alpine green tea: 50% sugar and less foam Taro milk tea with sago: 30% sugar. Beware they use real taro so it is thick/chunky Earl grey milk tea: 50% sugar Watermelon green tea: 50% sugar, this one is usually summer seasonal Pomelo cold brew oolong: 30% sugar. This one was new and I tried it today and I already know it's going to be my new obsession!! The tea flavor is strong and refreshing. It really reminds me of Taiwan Overall, I will sometimes crave specific drinks from other tapioca places but tea top is consistently my favorite go to spot and that hasn't changed for the past 2-3 years
google avatar

Mao P.

Yelp
If you want strong tea flavor, this is a must try! I know there are a million boba joints but tea top is my top 3 go to. Why? 1 - strong tea flavor, just like the ones from Taiwan 2 - fast service 3 - consistent flavors - you won't get a bad tea one day and a good one the next 4 - best reward program. You don't have to collect stamps or have them switch programs when u r 8 stamps in. It's a quick and easy, "u have credit, u want to apply it or not" 5 - unique toppings like real taro and not the powered kind Favorite drinks 1 - taro sago milk tea - real taro flavors. 2 - custom black tea with dae jing or sun moon as the base 3 - green bean slushy
google avatar

Jazmine H.

Yelp
First time trying out this establishment. Order: -brown sugar jasmine milk tea, added on original milk foam & boba -peach slushy (or mango?), added on rainbow pop boba Pro: -Drinks tasted good -Quick service -Clean interior -Adjustable sweetness & ice levels Con: -Pricing. Every add on was an extra charge. Other places we've been to have sinkers or foam already included in drinks. Paid about $15 for 2 drinks.
google avatar

Andrea V.

Yelp
One of my favorite boba places, their cheese foam is completely different from other places I've tried. I put their cheese foam in almost everything I order from them, it's my guilty pleasure. I usually get their alpine green tea with cheese foam or if I want something creamier their early grey with 3Q's with cheese foam. The place is rather small but not cramped so I usually bring my order to go, the people are always fast and friendly with my order.
google avatar

Kelly C.

Yelp
My favorite goto boba place!! Drinks: 10/10 - I love the wintermelon alpine green tea with cheese foam, milk foam alpine green tea with taro balls, and earl grey milk tea with 3Q. Ambience: 9/10 - It is a friendly place with a decent amount of seating. Service is also really fast! Parking: 8/10 - I usually find parking right outside this place. However, the plaza can get busy at times, so you may have to park a little farther. Studying/working: 4/10 - It is a popular boba shop so it can get pretty loud. It is a great place for hanging out and chatting. I usually always find seating, so I've been able to use my laptop here occasionally.
google avatar

Jason Z.

Yelp
Your basic milk tea/ boba spot in Chinatown. Tried it for the first time after my other picks had lines that were a bit long. Got the matcha latte and it was decent but tasted like almost every other boba spot. Nothing super extraordinary and kinda reminds me of a Sharetea.
google avatar

Elizabeth N.

Yelp
The drink itself was delicious and not overly sweet. The place is clean and the customer service is great. I got my drink fast!
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
One of my fave boba spot on Bellaire located in the Dun Huang plaza. The interior is a bit small but there are a couple of tables to sit at. It does get pretty crowded on a weekend night but service is pretty quick. Probably not an ideal place to study or do work. My fave drinks are the jasmine milk tea and grapefruit green tea. I like the consistency of the drinks here and they don't tend to make it too sweet. They have a variety of drinks and they usually have their top 10 drinks if you are undecided about what to get.
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
Yea top as quality tea! This is one of my favorite locations in Chinatown. The shop is small and usually busy so be prepared to stand in line if you come on a weekend. Must try the sun moon lake at least once! We always come here after eating when we're in the area.
google avatar

Catherine C.

Yelp
A great stop for boba with great tasting tea and good quality pearls! Their tea is a bit strong so last time I opted for a caffeine free drink, which was loaded with sago, grass jelly, taro.. sounds like a lot but I loved it!
google avatar

Darian C.

Yelp
I got their winter melon milk tea with coconut jelly (since they don't have lychee jelly) and I thought it was really good. I think it is a solid choice if you want boba and the cashier is nice too. The inside of the store is really cute and has tables for 2 lined on the left side and a really long communal table on the right so it is a store for all group sizes. The drink is slightly powdery but other than that it is really good!
google avatar

Kaitlyn L.

Yelp
Was craving my boba fix in Houston and my friend recommended TeaTop. Small modern shop that was packed with fellow boba fiends. I ordered the grapefruit tea which was kind of tart but I liked the consistency of the boba. Nice and chewy. The taro milk tea was creamy and lightly sweet and I stole my friends drink for the gram. The taro boba was fun! Same consistency as the regular boba but lighter in color and lightly tasting of taro.
google avatar

Saliba Q.

Yelp
The drinks here are always a hit. My favorite drink is sun moon lake black tea with cheese foam. And my wife got the Earl grey with egg pudding. Love it every time!
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
This has officially become my favorite boba chain in Texas (not sure if it's anywhere else). I would make the trek all the way from Austin to Houston just to order from Tea Top. Their tapioca pearls are always cooked perfectly, and their Sun, Moon, & Stars boba is my absolute favorite. The tea flavor is extremely apparent, but it balances out well so the milk tea is still creamy and light. I'm such a huge fan of Tea Top. I wish they would open a location in Austin because it's just that good.
google avatar

Pauline P.

Yelp
Pros - Can order ahead of time so you can pick up (they're very timely) - Love their passion fruit medley! The jellies and bubbles are a great combo for the drink and it's not too sweet! I love that they use honey in the drink - Price is reasonable given the size of the drinks - Appreciate that they take precaution in the store (marked 6ft distance and there was a shield up at the register) - You can adjust sweetness and ice level, and I love that they actually ask what level you'd like - The menu is clear and easy to read, love that they have pictures of their top 10 drinks - easy and ample parking Cons - it can get a little busy, so ordering ahead is recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
With so many bubble tea shops in this complex and literally every other one is a bubble tea shop, how do you decide? Well I hit up 3 and placed an order in each. I had the Cheese foam earl grey with taro balls. And this was the winner bc taro balls are my thing, the Earl Grey was strong and the cheese foam was on point. Combine all of that together and you have yourself an awesome drink that satisfied my bubble tea craving.
