Good place to get your Birria fix, if near LAX.
My wife's friend was in town for work, so we decided to meet someplace close to where he was staying for lunch on a Tuesday. I've never been to this location of Teddy's before, so good opportunity to try something new as well. We got there well before 11 am, and they were already open for lunch. There was plenty of spots in the dedicated lot. You order and pay first, and they will either bring out your food to you or call out your name.
The food was ready within 10 minutes. We wanted to try different variations of using birria, so got 2 deluxe combo plates ($15.95 each) and 2 vampiros ($3.99 each). The deluxe combo plates come with 1 taco, mulita, tostada, quesadilla and a large cup of consume for dipping (way more than you need). The vampiros was loaded with griddled cheese, which is a great way to eat birria.
Teddy's has been around well before the current birria craze (e.g. even del taco is offering it now, though it's not good). They do birria well. The meal was good, not great as the other location in Venice. We intentionally asked for all of them plain, and we need get a side of both cilantro and diced onions, and some red hot sauce. The meat was plentiful, with no gristle or other undesirables. The consume is very mild, but will stain any clothing that it touches. The tortillas were missing something...almost as if they were a little stale.
Dining inside is a typical fast food set-up and you self-bus. The soda fountain is behind the counter, so would need to ask someone if you want more water. We ended up spending quite a bit there, and it never got too crowded for lunch to make us feel like we needed to give up our space.
