The 18 Best Mexican Restaurants On The Westside - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Teddy’s Red Tacos is one of the few casual places to eat along the Venice boardwalk that’s not only worth your time, but an actual taco destination. The original Teddy’s in East LA got a lot of online buzz for its photogenic cheese pulls and crimson-stained tortillas, but its juicy beef birria is what made it an LA taco staple. It’s also the lone protein option on the menu, served in various ways, from tortas to ramen. If you’re especially hungry, go with the Deluxe Platter, a fully loaded tray that includes a quesadilla, mulita, tostada, and taco, plus consomme for dipping." - sylvio martins, jess basser sanders, brant cox, arden shore

It was early and I was the only customer. It was quiet inside. The restaurant was very clean. The menu unique. Proprietary named dishes. Not what I’ve seen at other restaurants. The service was good. The food was delicious. Everything was hot. all of the food was red at least the tortillas were. All the food was a bit spicy not over done though. It was a very good experience.

Google
Delicious!! Our hotel recommend this place. Told us that before was a food truck and turned brick and mortar. Cute little place, the decor was cute. The food was so good. Consume was perfect flavors to dip my tacos and turn in to rice soup at the end 😍 mouth watering flavors, rich and delicious. The birria was so soft. I got the deluxe combo plate, thought it was gonna be too much food, but in the end, it looked bigger than it was. Cooked to perfection. If I'm ever in this area again, I'll definitely come back and I recommend this place if you want authentic ☺️

Google
It's an authentic Mexican birria. It quickly became popular by word of mouth. I too heard about it from my loved one. The tacos are meaty, flavorful, and filling! @LiveLongNFree

Google
The Teddy's Red Taco on Imperial Hwy is my new go-to for Taco Tuesdays. Juicy Birria Taco and spicy consome, delicious. The kids and I also love the Aqua Fresco, top it all off with quick and excellent customer service, yes, please, and the prices are not too bad.

Me and my son went here in 2021 for tacos on a vacation trip. It was so good and the employees was very nice!! Now we stop here every year when we come to Los Angeles

Google
This place has a lot of potential! When I went in at 7pm, the place was empty. Never a good sign but not a deal breaker. I bought two quesabirra tacos straight up. Price came out to just under $7 My initial impression was they're too small! They're served on 4" tortillas, which just leaves you wanting a few more bites. The flavor, however, was great! If they would just switch to a 6" tortilla, I think they would draw more customers. The interior was nicely decorated and clean. The lady who took my order didn't speak great English but between my broken Spanish and her broken English, we worked it out. She was nice and attentive and wanted to make sure I got what I wanted. I would definitely give this place another try

Google
They don't accept call in orders. The staff has an attitude. Oftentimes it seems like the customer is a bother to them. The tacos are the smallest I've ever seen in my entire life. "RIP OFF" Just west of this location approximately 1/4 mile is El Tarasco. They have better hours. The food is just as good if not better. They treat you like a valuable customer! Better prices. Go there, you won't be disappointed.

Google
Ambiance: I randomly found this while driving down imperial. It was definitely in the cut, but I'm a sucker for Birria, so I thought it'd try it. Inside is a lot bigger than you'd expect with tons of seating. My only negative was that this place had a weird smell like cleaning supplies and old buildings. Wasn't intense, but you noticed it. Service: The menu was really simple, so I didn't have many questions. I opted for just the tacos because it was my first time there, and the cashier suggested it. Food: I really enjoyed the tacos. They had lots of flavor, a little kick, and they weren't stingy with the meat. I'd definitely go back and try some of their other items, and they were also reasonably priced.

Yelp
Not a fan. The ramen tastes like it was cooked in tap water. Yelp I don't have anything else to add. Is this 85 characters?

Yelp
I attended an event one weekend in Hollywood, and their food truck was there. I had two quesabirria tacos and they were delicious!! Later in the event, I went back outside to purchase more food to go, but I found them to be packing up to leave. My friend told me they have locations throughout the city, so I figured I'd find one and patronize them again. My receipt had a Firestone address. I checked Yelp and found this location to be the closest to me. When I arrived, the place was empty and had a loud cleaning solution smell. The young lady at the register was pleasant and greeted me immediately. I ordered a quesabirria taco, a birria burrito, and a side of consume with meat, which came up to about $22. I found the taco to be okay, and the burrito left much to be desired. Maybe I'll return, maybe I won't. Food didn't leave much of an impression.

Yelp
UPDATE: I had a client who loves teddys Burris tacos so I came back and gave them another shot. No longer did the food smell and taste like Fabuloso. Food tasted bomb and they have fixed their mishap so wanted to give them their flowers. Thank you for fixing that problem. Will be coming back now.

Yelp
Was craving some birria while in LA and found this place via Yelp and it did not disappoint! Totally unassuming spot, it was about 4pm so only another person there. Yes there was a slightly funky smell in the air, I saw that in another review, so not sure how pervasive this is. But it wasn't anything putrid and I stopped noticing after a while, definitely once the food arrived. I got 2 birria tacos and the tostada. SO GOOD. Tons of flavorful meat, tons of sauce/juice, right amount of spice. And the prices were extremely reasonable. Service was very friendly. Definitely a spot you should hit up if in town.

Yelp
Good place to get your Birria fix, if near LAX. My wife's friend was in town for work, so we decided to meet someplace close to where he was staying for lunch on a Tuesday. I've never been to this location of Teddy's before, so good opportunity to try something new as well. We got there well before 11 am, and they were already open for lunch. There was plenty of spots in the dedicated lot. You order and pay first, and they will either bring out your food to you or call out your name. The food was ready within 10 minutes. We wanted to try different variations of using birria, so got 2 deluxe combo plates ($15.95 each) and 2 vampiros ($3.99 each). The deluxe combo plates come with 1 taco, mulita, tostada, quesadilla and a large cup of consume for dipping (way more than you need). The vampiros was loaded with griddled cheese, which is a great way to eat birria. Teddy's has been around well before the current birria craze (e.g. even del taco is offering it now, though it's not good). They do birria well. The meal was good, not great as the other location in Venice. We intentionally asked for all of them plain, and we need get a side of both cilantro and diced onions, and some red hot sauce. The meat was plentiful, with no gristle or other undesirables. The consume is very mild, but will stain any clothing that it touches. The tortillas were missing something...almost as if they were a little stale. Dining inside is a typical fast food set-up and you self-bus. The soda fountain is behind the counter, so would need to ask someone if you want more water. We ended up spending quite a bit there, and it never got too crowded for lunch to make us feel like we needed to give up our space.

Yelp
Delicious The three taco and rice and beans special is definitely worth your visit. Think I went back to this place for days in a row.

Yelp
Great place. Everyone should go here. If you'd like birria, you would love this place.

Yelp
Just arrived in LA and drove by this small place at 3pm, wasn''t to sure if it was open, but glad we stopped. A steady stream of customers while we waited for our food. Ordered the Deluxe plate. Assorted dishes and all very tasty. Some spice but not too spicy. I am a big fan of radishes so really enjoyed that little bit of extra on top. Has an A rating and it was clean. Definitely check it out if you are in the area.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Didn't have to travel a long way to eat good Birria. Reasonable price for the food we received. .

Yelp
The food was great! Lots of meat on the tacos, and the consomé had NO fat in it. Only giving it 4 stars because I couldn't stand the smell of either pinesol or fabuloso. It was as if they had just mopped with a bucket full of fabuloso/pine sol... mixed with the birria smell was overwhelming and nauseating to me. Yet the floor was dirty and it didn't seem like it was swept all morning. Some people may not notice the smell mixture but I have a very sensitive nose. Back to the food. Service was great, the girl in the front seemed a little new and awkward but overall friendly service. My boyfriend very much enjoyed the tacos, quesabirria, and all they had to offer. He's usually very picky but he really likes their food so that means something!

Ambar E.

Yelp
Food is good . But dont order through uber eats . Received my order with no condiments whatsoever just the food . After applying all condiments.

Yelp
Amazing tacos and quesadillas!!!!!! So fire!!!! Yanet makes the best hot sauce! Hot but delicious

Javonna B.

Yelp
Great service. Great food! Excellent location. If you're ever in the LAX area, THIS is a place to visit. Tacos are pretty much a dime a dozen in LA. However, these tacos are in there own category.

Yelp
I ordered through Postmates the birria ramen and mini quesadillas with a horchata... everything was delicious and the prices are fair. I will definitely be ordering again... sorry no pictures I ate it all

Yelp
I hate when people play with my food... I took my daughter here and the food was great Presentation was on point and even came in nice containers. The second time I went, I was a little disappointed. My food came on ghetto cheap Styrofoam plates covered in foil.
google avatar

Samuel L.

Yelp
A great place to get your birria taco fix. This LA chain is a staple when it comes to red tacos and this location is no exception. The food was immaculate and freshly made. The styrofoam plates were a little suspicious as the hot food would melt part of the plate. The location itself was also a little dirty on the inside and seemingly was understaffed, but the food definitely is worth it, so I guess pick the battles you want to fight ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Yelp
My First time Having Teddy's red tacos was in Whittier 13317 Whittier Blvd, Whittier, CA 90602 And OMG I fell in love I had the plate with the Birria Caldo with no meat yummy yummy yummy! This building looks like a Old wienerschnitzel or pup and taco place.. I've been going to Teddy's ever since and I got a few friends and family members going their also(one closer) but none compare to the Whittier one!.. But it's still all good.

Cheryl T.

Yelp
First timer here and me and my husband split a taco plate. We took a bite and it was so juicy, you didn't need the consumme dip.The meat had so much flavor, we were pretty amazed. The beans and rice were also tasty. The tacos were pretty small,so we ended up ordering a mini quesadilla and more beans! Great food and we'll be going back no doubt. The fountain drinks were out of order, but they did have bottled drinks, horchata,Pina and Jamaica. The prices are decent for the food and there's plenty of seating inside. Great spot for bomb birria!

Cliff ..

Yelp
Best red tacos in LA. I love this place. Get the big combo with everything and you can't go wrong
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
First time at Teddys, ordered the deluxe plate.... Everything was delicious. The consome had lots of flavor, their red salsa is spicy but keeps you wanting more. Good customer service, dining area was very clean. Server brought our food out to our table.
google avatar

Julian P.

Yelp
Pros: Consomé, crispy tortillas Grow: umm why is my cheese not melted... Tip: order the consomé (broth with meat) and skip the cheese. A friend was visiting from NYC and wanted to try some Birria so we decided on Teddys in Inglewood. The restaurant itself needs some work as the bathroom was poorly ventilated. Parking is available behind the venue. Lots of locals, prices are accessible. Food rundown: LA's worst Mexican food is better than the best Mexican food in NYC... that said, my friend and I enjoyed the crispness of the tacos along with the warm consomé. The meat was tender and this is a great place to visit if you have never had Birria. The salsas were actually spicy and pretty good. I was super disappointed that the cheese was not melted (-1 points). Overall, a affordable spot to grab some Birria. If I were to come back I would skip the cheese and order for takeout given the restaurant is a bit crusty.
google avatar

Jim E.

Yelp
Staff was very friendly, greeted as soon as I walked in, ordered the deluxe plate and a coke, came in at just under $20. Food came fast and was hot, tasted great. If they had an A on their health score and I didn't see a rodent bait station inside the store they would have gotten 5 stars. Need to keep the store clean and the health score up. Price is average for the same plate at other businesses.
google avatar

Anita W.

Yelp
The food was delicious. The service was fantastic. I have passed it many times and never went in. Well, when you learn and know you have to go
google avatar

Yelp
Teddy's red taco was delicious and the menu is pretty simple. They offer a deluxe plate where you get to try a little bit of everything and it includes tacos, mulita, tostada, quesadillas, some broth and tortilla chips - all this for $15. It was a great way to try out most of things offered. The tacos and quesadilla was my favorite from the entire dish, they were so juicy and they'll add a bunch of cheese on it. So GOOD! They have several locations but this one is in Inglewood. There is a parking lot in the back and the restaurant also offers indoor dining.
google avatar

Preston I.

Yelp
My go to spot to get birria tacos!! I haven't met Teddy yet, but God bless him! He's making a lot of people happy. My favorite thing to order is the quesadilla. Not your topical large quesadilla that's cut into multiple slices. This one resembles a taco but it's larger and flatter. So good!! I get them with cheese. The tacos are great too. And don't forget the consomé! The small bowl is large enough to share with a friend. Grab a Jarritos and enjoy!

Amber H.

Yelp
Food was delicious and was a good amount for the price. Got the taco meal but without onions and cilantro (personal preference). The guy at the counter was nice and helpful. It feels like a little hole in the wall place since not that many people were in there at all. Very clean overall

Yelp
This location 100% deserves a 5/5 star review everytime, so im not really sure why some of the reviews are so negative. First and foremost, the food is honestly so good ! I usually prefer taco trucks when it comes to birria tacos, however we were in the area and decided to give this location a try. We had ordered a consome with meat, and yes with the meat is A MUST. Along with tacos with the cheese and although i havent had cheese like this on tacos normally, it was such a nice touch. The meat was very tender, very flavorful. Tortillas were marinated but stull strong. And none of it was too oily, which is always a plus for me personally. Also highly recommend the jamaica. Its so funny how food/drinks can appear to be so simple, but are absolutely phenomenal ! this spot definitely gives off that energy. Another reason that would keep me coming back is Emily !! She was so sweet, and made sure that any and all questions were answered. She gave such good recommendations and her kindness is radiant. Absolutely love her and truly appreciate her knowledge, honesty, and welcoming energy !!

Yelp
I was hesitant because place looks a bit dirty/ run down. But food was delicious and customer service was good too.

Yelp
Exceeded my expectations, great customer service! Perfect place to stop getting right out of the airport

Yelp
They have the Best Quesabrillas, Tacos, Consome & Tostadas :) Third time coming here & never disappoints. Great Service from the guys & they bring food to our table. Only downfall is r.r is out of service but overall its never packed & peacful quiet ambiance To come enjoy some birria with the family.

Samantha R.

Yelp
Service is terrible the cashier is rude. It's my second timing coming here the food that is great however the service from the cashier from the beginning of my entrance when placing my order it's was not welcoming or professional. when I request extra salsa or extra tortillas which I happily pay for she still has a bad attitude. I forgot to pick up my tray so she said "oh that tray" I said I know that's fine I'll pick it up can you place my order. Then she rolled her eyes as I turned away to throw away my trash! Extremely rude and unprofessional. How is she upset that we are ordering extras. All this place needs is better customer service someone who wants to work there.
google avatar

Charity C.

Yelp
The tacos were good and full of meat, but the quesadilla was GREAT! So I'll stick to that next time I'm in town
google avatar

Latasha D.

Yelp
Food was good. Lady at the front desk was rude and not very accommodating. Bathroom was out of service and the place smelled weird. I had to check the window rating as we almost walked out. Won't be back.

Yelp
It's a greasy delight! Get your napkins ready . Best when fresh. I always order to go so I can't speak on the location

Yelp
Made my stomach hurt under cook meat nasty ass fuck don't go there the workers just there to do there pay day this place is new to this erea I have a couple of people that went there and it was the same thing there stomach hurt too
google avatar

John P.

Yelp
First time at this location. Ordered the deluxe combo and did not disappoint. The consommé was flavorful and not full of oil like most birria places. The bathrooms were out of service and was not able to wash my hand but the food makes up for it. The guy who took my order was polite and attentive. Suggestion: They should have wet napkins
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
The food is awesome and the service is great! This is my go local place for birria tacos!!!
google avatar

Todd M.

Yelp
Oh my god! We drove 45 minutes to try this birra taco out. Unbelievably good. Highly recommended. The area is run down, it's Venice, but worth it if you love tacos.

Lamanella R.

Yelp
Food was AMAZING!!! I love this place but I don't want to share it with anyone because I know it will get flooded out
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
I ordered online and it said order ready in 10min. I arrived 12 min later and not only did I not find any employee inside the lobby but after 8 minutes of waiting, a female employee came in from outside and that is when I see two male employees who were in the kitchen come out of hiding. Mind you there was no other customers at the time. I called to the back and no one came out. When the first employee came inside this is when my order got started and put together. The parking is non-existent This place is not worth it. Never coming back!
google avatar

Dirty D.

Yelp
Tacos: Excellent Service: Excellent ++ -- Nicole was a absolutely flawless in helping me from the beginning to the end. From providing feedback on the types of tacos they offer, down to calling someone(manager/owner) to inquire about the gift receipt I got from another location, which they honored.
google avatar

Derrick C.

Yelp
Teddys is bomb! Seriously one of the best taco spots I've had ever! Although the location in Hawthorne needs a phone. It would be clutch to place my order ahead of time so I can go right in a pick it up Other than that the food is delicious.
google avatar

Jordyn R.

Yelp
We were greeted with a huge smile and it felt very welcoming. The cashier was amazing when it came to service, and it was a breath of fresh air. She brought the food out to us, and made sure we were all set. We ordered the Vampiro tacos and Mulitas. Sosososo good! The shells were crispy but not too crispy, the meat was tender and juicy. The presentation was great as well. I also got a piña agua fresca. Amazing. The first piña i've had that actually tastes like pineapple! The kitchen is also very quick. We received our food in about 10 minutes. I definitely will be coming back here sometime this week.
google avatar

Yelp
My boyfriend and I decided to go 7/6/21... Our first time there... There's parking in the back... outside sitting only... Very Friendly and helpful Good Vibes!! Will definitely come back!! Thank you... *** Quesadilla was sooooo goood!! *** Juicy Loaded Tacos
google avatar

Melisa C.

Yelp
So excited to see they opened a location in Inglewood. Now I don't have to travel as far for some bomb birria tacos! We ordered some birria tacos (of course), a vampiro and a side of caldo (broth without meat). Teddy's offer two options: broth with meat (consume) or broth without meat (caldo). Just make sure to get one for dipping! As for the tacos, they are usually served with cilantro and onions topped with a spicy sauce but it can be customized. Their in-house taco shells are street taco sized and come loaded with meat and toppings. It's super juicy and flavorful but can get a bit messy so make sure to have some napkins handy. The vampiro takes tacos to another level. Basically some gooey melted cheese is added between the taco shell and the toppings and it is amazing! In my opinion this is the way to go if you want cheese, skip the option to add cheese to tacos for 0.50 more. The gooiness and if you're lucky the crispy cheese edges are great but we still like getting more regular tacos to balance out the richness of the cheese. Overall I like this location better than the Venice one not just because it's closer but because everything was just done better. The tacos here seemed fresher, juicier and had more toppings. Even though we picked up and ate our tacos right away at the Venice location, it felt like they had been sitting around for a while and the taco shells tasted a bit stale. Here the tacos are packaged on plastic plates instead of the plastic folding containers which is not ideal for tacos. They also have their own parking lot (in addition to plenty of street parking) and a lot of indoor space. I could see they have some space saved for indoor dining (once that's allowed again) but right now they have a few tables outside if you want to dine in. Tacos are decently priced and cheaper if you pay with cash; there is a 4% surcharge otherwise. Worth it for the taste. If you haven't been to Teddy's yet, now's your chance if you live nearby or in the South Bay.
