The Best Restaurants in Newark, New Jersey | Eater NY

"The legal name of Teixeira’s is the Portuguese Baking Company, which tells the whole story. The Ironbound location (one of three in Newark), isn’t just a bakery and cafe, but also the brand’s factory, which reportedly turns out 400,000 pounds of baked goods every week. Sure, you can get pastel de nata, at any Teixeira location, but here, you can also see those fantastic egg custard tarts passing by overhead on the factory conveyor belts." - Hank Zona

The Best Ironbound Restaurants in Newark, New Jersey | Bon Appétit

"A quaint bakery with hand-painted tiled walls and an overwhelming pastry case plus baskets of fresh-from-the-oven bread; the star offering is the pastéis de nata (Portuguese egg custard tarts), warm and crunchy outside and sweet and silky inside, perfect for a snack on the go." - ByEsra Erol

Writer Aymann Ismail’s Grub Street Diet

"An old-school, family-run Portuguese bakery known for its prized Portuguese rolls and toasted, butter-slathered tuna sandwiches. The roll is slightly sweet and always pressed in the panini maker despite requests otherwise; the simple sandwich is fought-over and rated highly by regulars. The place has a nostalgic, neighborhood-bakery feel, with prices that have crept up over the years." - Paula Aceves, Adam Mazur

I have been going to Teixeira’s for decades with my family and it never disappoints. genuinely one of the best (if not the best) bakeries in the area. since they’ve expanded there is always seating, even during the busier times. i love everything here, from the soups to the pastries, the coffee, even the toast is excellent. i strongly recommend to anyone who is curious and hungry

excellent all around. This is a local spot that cannot go wrong. The food and drinks are delicious and made in-house & affordable. I tried their chicken empanadas and fries. They’re both really great ! If there was one comment - I would ask that they have more hot sauces to dip foods. I’m definitely coming back to try their bakery items.

If you're looking for authentic Portuguese egg tarts, this is the real deal. The crust is perfectly flaky with a buttery crunch, and the custard filling is rich and just the right amount of sweet. They come out warm and fresh and even after it being in the to-go box for a bit, they're still crispy and steaming with flavor. Definitely worth the trip. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere is nice. They also have other treats but I haven't had the chance to try them yet.

This bakery is my daily go-to spot for breakfast. It’s a treasure trove of everything you could ever need, from cakes to drinks and salads. I absolutely adore the ambiance and the organized staff. The only minor concern I had was the freshness of the food. This could be cultural, as in my home country, we expect everything to be freshly baked and served immediately. Apart from that, everything else is nearly perfect.

Great place to come for breakfast, lunch or a delicious snack. They have daily soups. Portugués breads, sandwiches 🥪 totally delicious and a great price. Sandwich serve hot if you like. Coffee is delicious as well.

The fruit tarts and cakes are so pretty and well decorated! We got a lemon dessert cake thing (sorry I didn’t catch the name) it was… very rich, the icing was a bit too sweet and dense for me. The bread we got is like a sweet roll, I was anticipating something super light and fluffy like a Japanese bread, but it wasn’t. It tasted fine, but wasn’t what I was hoping for. The egg tarts and pastry tarts were all very good! They have different flavors such as orange, almond, plain and then egg tarts and fruit tarts. My favorite was the fruit tart.

Had a great experience and I'll definitely be back and highly recommend. There were so much and it all looked so amazing I had a hard time choosing what to get. We decided to get the multi grain bread, macaroons and the pound cake. The pound cake was one of the best cakes I've ever had!!
