"Tejas Brewery & Taproom in First Ward is all about the view. You can have a meal in the sit-down restaurant, but the food and pale ales pair nicely from the rooftop, where you can watch an Astros game and see the downtown skyline. Alongside a handful of beers like the crisp Tejas Clara, there is a mile-long menu of bar food like spicy buffalo wings and fluffy pretzel bites to eat while you watch the sunset." - Gianni Greene

"Tejas Brewery & Taproom is another Sawyer Yards newcomer housed in the former location of Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company. The three-story brewery offers beer, half bottles of wine, and whiskey-based cocktails. And if you need a meal to accompany one of the best views of downtown, Tejas serves elote mac and cheese balls, nachos piled with fajita steak, and many other dishes that go well with a pale ale." - chelsea thomas, gianni greene

We had visited this location several times before the new brewery took over so were excited to visit Tejas. The staff members were all very welcoming and friendly. Views are still great from rooftop. Food was very good. Will return.

This brewery has one of the best views in Houston. It’s great that Tejas opened I this location after Buffalo Brewery shut its doors. The food and beer selection are general but I was told they might be getting more varieties of beer as it fully opens op. The staff are the original teammates from the former brewery and helpful.

Today I attended the Grand opening of a New Brewery in Houston Downtown Tejas Brewery. I had a Couple of Ice Cold Tejas Clara Cervezas along with an order of Chicken Fajita Tacos. They were flavorful n delicious. The Beer was Smooth n tasty. They had a Band Rockin the Place and the Brewery is in Downtown Houston 3 stories high with a Awesome View of the Skyline. Great place to visit with friends. I highly recommend it. Cheers!😃🍻🍺🍻🤘🌮

Heard a lot about this place and had to give it a try. Putting the fact aside that this is a brewery, the beer is really good(I had the Texas Oktoberfest), but the quality could be much better. The elote Mac and cheese balls don’t feel or taste like anything special, the taste was mid and the fajita quesadillas were the better choice but the meat was very chewy. Atmosphere was alright, love the Houston skyline but the ambient is dark and gloomy. I hope to have a better experience next time around.

This location was previously known as Buffalo Bayou Brewery. When my husband and I heard a new brewery had recently opened at the exact location, we had to come back and check it out. They have their own distillery in Houston, Gian Distillery, to make cocktail bases. I tried a Cactus Martini—it's a good choice for summer! I didn't remember what beer my husband got, but the mouth texture was very soothing. Burgers here are great! We will come back!

What was previously Buffalo Bayou 🥲 So Tejas took over and looks to follow in the same steps as Buffalo Bayou Brewing, we were excited because this was my wife’s favorite brewery (BBB) so we decided to go and try the Tejas experience, same great scenic views of downtown Houston, menu was diverse and had plenty of options for everyone. Was kinda disappointed that they didn’t offer flights and most breweries do, yet they had a flight of whiskeys which makes no sense. I ordered the cask burger and my wife got the chicken salad, she said the salad was delicious, my burger was ok, everything was good exept the patties, they were bland, the guac and jalapeños gave it some life but it wasn’t enough, l was disappointed. Other than that we had a great time, the waitress were exceptionally nice and attentive. I’m looking forward to a few more variety of beers in the future because in order to compete with the bigger breweries in Houston you definitely need variety.

I recently visited Tejas and had a great experience overall. Here's a breakdown of our visit: Beer Quality: The standout feature of Tejas is definitely their beer. It has a high-quality, authentic taste that really made our visit memorable. If you're a beer lover, this place is a must-try. Food: - Steak Nachos: Very tasty with the perfect amount of toppings. - Burger: Good flavor, but it got cold pretty quickly, which affected the taste. - Fried Pickles: Nice crispy consistency and flavorful. A solid choice for an appetizer. Ambiance: The one area where I think Tejas could improve is the music selection. I understand they’ve recently opened but music really sets the vibe for a place. We visited on a Friday night, and the mix of EDM and country was a bit too sporadic, in my opinion. A more consistent playlist could really enhance the atmosphere. Overall, I would recommend Tejas, especially for their beer and steak nachos. With a few tweaks to the music, it could be an even better spot for a night out.

First time in since it was Buffalo Brewing. Love it! Great atmosphere and the food was perfect. Staff were friendly and helpful. Wife and I will be going back soon.

Yelp
This is such a great place to catch up with friends or after a night out... I personally come on Sundays and do mimosas on the rooftop great view and always take friends here when they're visiting Houston Food I always do apps and love everyone I have gotten and drinks you can never go wrong with the staff is always great vibes and super nice and welcoming I would recommend this place to everyone and don't doubt you would leave here without wanting to come back for great vibes they have a parking lot so that is a plus!

Yelp
First time here and was absolutely a great experience. Sat on the 2nd floor to eat an enjoy some drinks. David the waiter was by far great at his job , great people skills , great personality and all around kept up with our table . More than I expected but man that guy is a gem. "Give that man a raise " ! We ordered Shrimp quesadillas Birria tacos Nachos with fajita Burger (I forgot the name of it ) And some tejas Hefeweizen beers ! Sheeesh ! You will not be disappointed at all ! From the staff to the food all around a great experience! I will definitely be back to this business ! I recommend everyone try this place out ! You won't regret it !

Yelp
Different company, same great view. You always need to go to the third floor to enjoy the downtown skyline view with a beer and their great food. I have not really known any other part of the place than the 3rd floor patio. I lied, the bathroom in the third floor is very clean, think Buc-ees level clean. Having a full bar and beer on tap, you will surely enjoy any drink with a meal, I recommend the steak fajitas paired with a pint of Tejas Clara, and just sit back, relax, and enjoy that skyline.

Evelyn L.

Yelp
One of the best views of the city. We got the fajita nachos and thought they were ok. Kinda pricey for the quality. Normally parking isn't too bad in the lot but it was pretty full on a Saturday night. Solid place to hang out on a Saturday night.

Zach H.

Yelp
Same great views left behind by Buffalo Bayou Brewery taken over by Tejas. Beer was great and they actually serve pitchers which seems harder to find these days. Food came out in 30 minutes which was great considering how busy it was. The chicken fajita pizza and buffalo wings split among 3 was spot on. The pizza was surprisingly delicious... def recommend that one. I will say they need to add a fan in one of the top floor rooms, and maybe a few more seats. Outside on the balcony views are good but they have these harsh white lights that the manager said they are looking to replace. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
I was excited to try out Tejas as it is taking over the previous space of Buffalo Bayou Brewery, which I quite enjoyed. I was interested to see how the new owners of Tejas would revamp or improve on the experience. First impressions were that not much has changed in the vibe of the place, except the rooftop tables are now low-rise, which do not allow you to see any of the skyline that you would go to a roof-top spot for. This was an unwelcome change from the previous experience. This was also Saturday night of opening weekend, and it was not fully packed although many patrons were present. A DJ was also present who blasted EDM/dance music at a volume too loud for us to enjoy our conversation but with no dance floor or anyone dancing. Thankfully, he left an hour after we arrived and the vibe was much improved. The food was excellent, however, as my grilled chicken sandwich was cooked to perfection. The menu appears to be American and Tex-Mex inspired with pretty basic options (but palatable to the masses). Service was friendly and quick. I do not drink but my friend enjoyed the beers (currently there are only 2 options), but there are now liquor options. Overall, a cozy spot with a lot of potential. Perfect for a hangout or date night (as long as no DJ is there to play over you) with delicious food and reasonably priced beer.

Yelp
Came were recently and the view is still amazing especially during golden hour (sunset). The food was good. I got the pepperoni pizza and it tasted just like before when this place was Buffalo Bayou. It seems that when they rebranded a lot of the character was taken out. There are not very many beers on tap but they have added vodka along with some other spirits. The Mac n cheese was pricey. $12 for 3 balls is not worth it to me. But they do have a large food menu that has other great options. The beers are reasonably priced. Overall... Still a 10/10 skyline view. Food was great.

Yelp
Same song, different verse? Buff Brew--I mean, Tejas Brewery has yet to have their grand opening, so it was nice to be able to walk over to this neighborhood spot. Through an ordering mishap, we ended up with wings, fried pickles, elote balls, and pretzel bites. Of these selections, my compatriots declared that the wings and fried pickles are the way to go. The elote balls were gritty, burnt, and lacking the familiar "elote" flavors I had hoped for. Maybe my plate missed the "spicy tangy sauce" station in the back. The pretzel bites taste like a bite of flavorless sadness. For the main courses, we went with the enchiladas, quesadillas, and the burger. The quesadillas is CHEESY and delightful. The burger is something to skip. And minus the bug that came with my enchiladas, I would skip that one too. The queso that came as a side, however, was pretty tasty. I will say that our server was attentive and helpful.

Yelp
Finally stopped by this hidden gem. I love me Some beer and definitely like to support local breweries. If you go you must try the Coffee Porter and the Old Fashion is a great follow on. The food wasn't your typical bar food. The pretzel bites with queso are a great starter and the Birria Tacos were out standing. The service was stop on as well. Our server who I forgot to get his name was very helpful when it came to the menu and specialty drinks. I well definitely be back and high recommend.

Yelp
Why doesn't this place have 5 stars? It's so cool. Three story spot with great food and great drinks. They're brand new, serving their own beers, which I love. The staff is freaking cool too. Really down to earth. And the vibe here? Love it. I'll be back.

Yelp
The Tejas Brewery & Taproom is an amazing place for great beer (and has a full bar), great tood options, and an extraordinary view! I've been there for lunch, dinner, events/receptions, and drinks with friends, and I've enjoyed it each time. The beers are high quality and great tasting (I like both the Clara and the Negra depending on my mood). They have the standard bar food offerings (wings, pretzel bites, etc. -- which are super tasty), as well as real meals. --- Will definitely be going back again soon.

Cindy B.

Yelp
First time coming here , I can say it was ver nice the view was excellent , food was good, service was good, will definitely come back soon.

Yelp
I was very excited they repurposed this space and this restaurant will be great one day just need a few changes. I came here on a Saturday and I know with it being the weekend it's going to be busy, but I felt they could have been more prepared. First, the top floor needs more fans and definitely more seating. They took out the bar seating that overlooked the city and I think it would be smart to add that back or smaller tables in the front. Second, they need to hire more staff and be more staffed during the weekends you could tell they were short staff and the staff was beyond helpful, but you could tell they were struggling with not having enough people working. Lastly, they closed the kitchen down when we're there and they would not let anyone put in any food orders until 4pm so it made us leave and go eat somewhere else. Also, they advertised that there mimosas were $6 on Saturdays and Sundays but they were ringing them up at $9. I would give it a few months before heading over here to check it out just to give them a few months to get it together. We will be back eventually.

Yelp
Came here the other night, the view is AMAZING!! We got some of the draft beers, triple dipper (queso, salsa, and guac)and the tacos. Both were really good. One thing I was disappointed about was the wait time. It took us 20 minutes to get the appetizer out and another 20 minutes to get the tacos. Because this brewery is 3 stories, I'm guessing there is one kitchen for the entire place. The food was great don't get me wrong, I just wish that they had quicker service.

Randi L.

Yelp
Solid, classic IPA. Vibes are great, good music with a live DJ (I was there on a Friday night). Staff is super friendly! Definitely hope they keep their quality up because it's a good spot! Tons of seating too!

Cassie D.

Yelp
Great views, tasty beer, quick and friendly service. They have a good variety of beers to choose from it's not only IPA.

Irene H.

Yelp
delicious wings. 3 floors. first floor is pet friendly + offers patio area + single stall restroom across the bar. second + third floor offer skyline view. private parking lot.

Marissa G.

Yelp
The servers were very friendly and helpful. Love the space and views. For a bar/brewery there were decent options on the menu. Pretty much what you would expect, I thought it tasted good. Only real complaint is that the plastic forks weren't strong enough to eat the salad. Good place to watch sports there are 3 floors

Sandra K.

Yelp
Fast service. Food was hot. Beer was good (says my husband). Soda was flat but maybe because the ice melted so quickly? Burgers were tasty, waffle fries hot and fresh, flautas were small. I think Taco Cabana has bigger ones for $18. Lots of good space upstairs for the kids to run around and great views of downtown.

Tina S.

Yelp
Best brewery I've ever been to! The view on the third floor is really nice and super clean. The food was also really good. The beer was amazing of course!

Stephanie V.

Yelp
Sucks compared to buffalo bayou. Food could be better and beer selection sucks. We tried the nachos pizza and chips and salsa big mistake

Yelp
I had hopes after buffalo brewery closed down tejas would be as good but not even close small selection of beers that taste like it's been brewed in a dirty old tank and watered down idk what type of people like this type of beer but I'm guessing it's people that like overpriced mid tacos and unseasoned chicken . When I tried Buffalo brewery I had a moment like the movie beer feast where they tasted the best beer in the world this place gave my pallet sadness and regret . Also food was mid Buffalo had such a better menu . Then you have bartenders on the 3rd floor that have no idea how to explain a flavor of a beer comparing one to modelo yeah it taste like modelo if I had my can open for 30mins outside on a sunny hot rainy day , that's as close as I can compare it to modelo . Then no high tables to see the view . Hardly any people like it used to be no inviting vibes and now you have a yoga class in the morning what is this an urban swap meet what's next hand painting classes for kids .

David H.

Yelp
The food is mediocre at best and they need to fix their menu to match their prices. They up charged $2 for side item that came with chicken flautas meal when the menu clearly says your choice of side. All sides all $6 except one that is $4. So why is there an up charge when all other sides are the same price and you can choose? No huge deal, but it's the principle. Either change the menu or change the price.

Brian D.

Yelp
Best view of downtown! I've been twice in the past 3 weeks and the food was good and the folks were friendly! Support local!!!!

Gabriela R.

Yelp
It was my first time going to a Brewery and i loved this place. I will definitely be back, you also get Houston view which is immaculate at night. The Food was delicious the (birria tacos). Parking was easy. Id definitely recommend this place 10/10

Yelp
Went for college football on a Saturday, none of the kegs were working so there was no beer available at a brewery. Cocktails were terrible. Service was bad. Took over 20 minutes to get another drink. Kitchen was closed and couldn't even *take* orders for over two hours. Would not recommend
