"Telly’s Taverna has about as many options for grilled whole fish as there are birthday cards in CVS categorized as “funny birthday.” But unlike a card with a glittery sloth on it, you’ll actually want to spend money on these fish. Pick your favorite (if you need a visual, they’re all sitting on ice in the front of the restaurant) and then get some grilled or fried vegetables and spanakopita. The amount of tables at Telly’s is infinite, and they even have some nice sidewalk seating and an enclosed garden in the back. This is some of the best Greek food in Astoria - which, as you’ll notice from this guide, is saying something." - hannah albertine, bryan kim, neha talreja, carina finn koeppicus
"There’s a comforting, homey quality to the baked casseroles here; the pastitsio delivers that warmth with layers of fluffy mashed potato, cinnamon-spiced beef, and bucatini tube pasta that gets slathered with a decadent bechamel sauce that brings all the elements together." - Caroline Shin
"Telly’s is a huge place, which makes sense, because they serve some of the best Greek food in the city, and people like that sort of thing. As soon as you walk in, you’ll see a bunch of different kinds of fish on ice (like flounder, porgy, and red snapper), and it’s important that one of these fish winds up on your table in its entirety. The very normal-sounding “mixed vegetables” are also surprisingly delicious, and if you get some lamb chops and saganaki, the people at your dinner will develop a newfound appreciation for you." - bryan kim
"Telly’s Taverna in Astoria has tons of options for grilled whole fish. Pick your favorite (if you need a visual, they’re all sitting on ice in the front of the restaurant), and then get some grilled or fried vegetables and spanakopita to with your selection. The amount of tables at Telly’s is seemingly infinite, and they even have some nice sidewalk seating and an enclosed garden in the back. This is one of our favorite Greek spots in a neighborhood full of great Greek spots." - hannah albertine
