Teote Outpost Opens Today at Pine Street Market - Eater Portland

"Latin American bar and restaurant Teote is opening its first restaurant on the west side, serving red chile pork belly and mini-burritos in Portland food hall Pine Street Market. Owner Michael Kennett says Teote Outpost, the new Pine Street Market arepa bar, will serve as a testing ground for the two other restaurants on the east side. The restaurant will have a number of proteins that will rotate frequently, available in flour tortillas or arepas — gluten-free tortillas are coming one things get settled. To start, the restaurant will offer its diablo — pork belly in red chile maple sauce — as well as shredded beef and smoky chicken. The meats will also be available in small, burrito-like wraps. Down the line, the restaurant will offer “traveler’s bowls,” aka greens cooked in chorizo broth topped with optional proteins. Teote will also have a full liquor license, offering two frozen drinks including a frozen mezcal margarita. The restaurant will also have a large selection of mezcal and a few draft cocktails. Teote hopes to fill a bar role at Pine Street as well, with bar stools at the restaurant’s colorful kiosk. Teote will be open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Update, March 15, 2019, at 12:22 p.m.: The “traveler’s bowl,” a bowl of meat topped with greens, will not be on the initial menu at Teote Outpost, but will be available later this spring." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

"Arepa and mezcal bar Teote, with locations in SE and NE Portland, will cross the river with a new location within Pine Street Market. Along with the other menus’ classics, this tiny Teote will have tacos, a departure from the other locations. It should open within the next 12 days." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Was tired, picked this place, and ordered. Saw the Google reviews after the fact. I can only assume those who rated it poorly had their little hearts yearning for Taco Bell. This place is Venezuelan based. I had the El Diablo. Pork Belly & Roasted Poblano Chile's glazed in a red chili maple sauce. Oh my! What a taste bud feast. The service was friendly!

Had a salad bowl and a side of all the meat. Loved the different spices on each meat, the pork is my favorite, with a little spice and heat. The chicken and beef were great too.

A great snack to get is the Nacho Bag. It's like a small bag of Dorito's in a bowl with some smoky queso dip, queso Fresca, Cilantro, and pickled onions. You can also add some protein to it (I highly suggest you do). The queso dip is delicious and tasty. It's a perfect snack for when you want something small.

We got the smoky chicken taco. The chicken is very flavorless and it contains incrediblily amount of liquid. I took my food back, and the guy told me i have to the eat their food fast or it goes bad. I literally just grabbed and tried it immediately. So yeah i am not happy with what i got.

The food here was delicious. I had the Taco Trio which is three tacos of your choice. I chose one of each of the following. ELDIABLO-Pork belly topped w/ pickled onions, cilantro-lime verde sauce, queso fresco & cilantro. SMOKY POLLO-Shredded chicken thighs topped w/ verde sauce, plantain sauce, cabbage salad, queso fresco & cilantro. PABELLÓN-Beef brisket topped w/ black beans, verde sauce, plantain sauce, smoked gouda & cilantro. The employees were very friendly, since it was my first time I had a few questions, they were very helpful and engaged.

This is a one man operation. I ordered 3 tacos, brisket and chicken, and it didn't take long. I believe everything is already prepared so not necessarily cooked right then and there. The brisket was tender, chicken was fine, and the tacos had a bit of a kick. Overall okay, not something I need to return for, so I can't really recommend.

Soggy soggy tacos dripping with watery juice from something, and to top it off hot sauce that's the consistency of water. Beautiful presentation though and okay flavors. Staff was a bit awkward and didn't bring the food over when I was sitting at the counter right next to them but set it across the other side for me to get even though I was sitting right in front of them. Glad I paid the minimum suggested tip of 18% in advance for this.
