One Of Houston’s Favorite Barbecue Joints Lands at IAH - Eater Houston

"Pitmaster Greg Gatlin’s newest venture, Q, is now open at the airport, according to the Houston Chronicle. The restaurant a spinoff from his standalone eatery Gatlin’s BBQ on Ella Boulevard. Situated like an island near Gate 2, the eatery features a massive bar area and open-flame grill. The smoke that emits from the grill is vented outside by showy copper tubing that reaches nearly to the ceiling. Q’s menu features barbecue standbys like smoked brisket, pulled pork, ribs, sausage, chicken, and turkey. Prices are almost comparable to Gatlin’s BBQ; meats and sides plates will run $12 to $19 and barbecue sandwiches $9 to $12, which is definitely on the reasonable end of airport fare." - Alaena Hostetter

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly things ran at IAH. The layout was easy to navigate, and the lines moved quickly. The information staff were super helpful and friendly. Just be aware: certain areas are under renovation. Check ahead to make sure your terminal is open and plan accordingly. Overall, a decent travel experience!

Yelp
Terminal C parking situations need to be addressed. I had an appointment at 1:45 pm for the American Red Cross blood donation. I got up to the area around 1:00 pm, the lines were backed up with traffic per usual. As soon as I get in the lane for parking in Terminal C. An older Hispanic guy blocking the entrance and lets only one car go, that's in front of me. But as soon as I get to the entrance he tells me I need a reservation ticket. I think to myself, a reservation ticket; wtf is that. Is that something I get online? He says, you need that to park in this parking garage. Then he points to the other line with the flowing traffic and says, Terminal C parking garage is full. Wtf, I again say to myself. How TF does he know that the parking garage is full?! He wasn't holding no device nor had no ear piece in his ear to get radioed in. He was only saying that to prevent me from parking. He then says, you have to park in the Ecopark lot. Puzzled, I merge over and leave. I call the American Red Cross and they tell me: "You need to park in Terminal C and take the shuttle to D". So, I circle back around; sitting in even more traffic than before. I past the Marriott hotel. What a nightmare this is! Now it's 1:45 pm, I get back around to Terminal C. I go back to the same parking entrance for C. This time there's a young light skinned slender black man standing blocking the entrance at C. He says, ma'am you need a reservation. At this point, I used my email to tell him I have a reservation. That I need to get to C to connect with D. He looks at the email and says, "I don't know what kind of information that is, but that's no reservation". "Where's the QR code"? I said, there was no code sent with the email. I really need to get to Terminal C to go to D for the American Red Cross blood drive. He is again hesitates to let me through and says, "I'll just let you go". As I enter, I stop at the ticket booth and get a pink ticket with a tiny QR code on it. "Is this the reservation they are talking about"? I curve around the winding path and get to Level 4. I find parking immediately near the elevators and take it to floor 1. As I get off 1, I follow a group of people to the sign that says, BCDE as I get in the elevator. I'm confused on where to go next, so I say aloud, "Does anyone know how to get to Terminal D?". The friendly travelers, tell me to take the train. I get on the train from C, and don't even realize I should've gotten on the train to the right of the elevators not to the left. The one to the left takes you from C to A to B to Marriott to C then A to B to Marriott and eventually to DE. So I had to play the waiting game. I made small talk with this man who also got on the wrong train. As he was waiting for E. Everyone on the train was very friendly. As we were moving along to B the train completely stops on the tracks. A barrier was preventing the doors from opening. Some people began to panic, after a few seconds the train then it tugged along. I'm not entirely sure how the train is controlled. But that was odd. So, we finally get to Terminal DE. I took the escalators to the right, around the corner, and all the way up to D. I walked past the aquarium mural and took more steps to get to Terminal D. It's around 2:59 pm now, I found the first person on the floor that was helping someone else out of the entire airport. I asked him, "Do you know where I need to go to get to the FCR room"? He leads me directly to the room and makes a joke along the way. That honestly made this experience a little more easier. If you ever need to get to the FCR room on Terminal D take my directions and you'll surely find it. It's adjacent to Qatar airport check in. As far as the parking, I didn't need a reservation as both men told me previously. The parking garage gives out a pink ticket with a QR code on it, I wouldn't have gotten this if they did not let me through. If this happens to you, you really just gotta tell them something just to get into the garage. It's very frustrating and annoying to have to deal with this unfortunate mishap. All I had to pay was $8 exiting the garage and there is plenty of parking inside the garage. There were even more people coming up after me. So, do what you have to do to get in the garage to park. Good luck! It is definitely a headache.

Yelp
Traffic flow is getting better compared to a few months before, but the updated construction and redirecting signage can be a bit confusing so stay updated with your airline, be patient and arrive early!

Yelp
This airport is large, and depending which gate you're flying through - you might need to take the skyway bus that will take you to your gate. Just last night, I saw at minimum, 7 individuals running in different directions to not miss their flight! Come early if you are unfamiliar with this location. I had a layover from a slightly delayed flight and was still able to make my last flight home. Both times I had come through here for a layover I needed to take the skyway bus and it was nice and comfortable. It's never too full, and there are a few seating options. This airport is also staffed well and I was able to get directions from the front desk of the gate and she had given me great and clear directions. Even being delayed a bit, I was able to take the skyway busy and make it to my gate - no running necessary! There are also so many delicious smelling food options throughout the entire airport. By the time I reached my gate, I could smell the cinnamon and cream cheese from the Cinnabon/auntie Anne's combo location. My gate was right around the corner, so I made it a point to grab a pretzel with 10 min to spare before boarding! I call that a success since I was expecting to eat nothing due to the delay and the transfer flight I couldn't miss. I loved the airport's selection of food and convenience. It was a great spot both times I had come here.

Yelp
Flying out of IAH can be overwhelming as there is lots of construction going on. Get there early to find a parking spot. Walk through parking lot to find the nearest elevator is not working and that you have to walk an extra 9 minutes in the garage to find a working elevator. My advice get there early. Check all your bags. Get TSA pre check to make going through security easier and faster. Then wait to board d your flight, Smile a lot and say thank you often.

Yelp
The terminal restaurants are dirty. Table tops , bar tops, the display glasses used to showcase food is greasy. Dirty glasses and dishes were left out since before I sat down and after I left. A lots of gnats. The restrooms were kinda old and tattered looking. The wait staff was polite. From what I could tell the outlets were in working condition. TSA was fast.

Yelp
The reason I'm giving this airport 5 stars is because any establishment that gets you as far away as possible from Houston should receive a god damm Nobel Peace Peace Prize! I mean they gave Obama one and this airport has done a hell of a lot more. Also you know your city is bad when they have to post how to be a good person signs every where.

Yelp
Catching flights at George bush is pretty easy. Overall I have always had a great experience and it's always well organized.
google avatar

Kat E.

Yelp
Airport is easy to get around. There are signs for where you are going. TSA is easy to go through as well as security. Waiting areas are clean and employees are very helpful. There are different restaurants and fast food areas. There are also stores available to get snacks and drinks. As always the airports are pricey.

Yelp
This terminal is a cesspool of this already bad airport. All the widebodies come in here. If you are pressing a connection; good luck. Lots of overpriced food here. Le sigh; I am not a fan. Sadly; i fly out of here tomorrow.

Yelp
This place is a disgrace to the city of Houston. An hour and a half to get into the airport to pick people up. The arrivals area outside is a complete zhite show. The terminal is disgusting. Toilets are disgusting. As I said a complete and total disgrace. Shame on you Houston Airports.

Yelp
Airport is GREAT !!! United airlines Special services ticket counter. Not so great. Agents there don't like you traveling with in cabin pet and will do all they can to not allow them to travel. They are not consistent with their process. Soooo if u wanna travel with a pet go first class cause if u r economy.... They will say ur small dog is "HUGE", yet the pet checking in with their owner in first class that is 2 times larger will be allowed to travel. SMH

Yelp
Seriously would go to Houston's other airport Hobby. Lived or worked in almost every US State and they have thee absolute rudest traffic cops/toy cops. They literally have fellow passengers screaming as they don't have any concept of HELPING passengers get into their automobiles. When I am getting picked up they direct cars out of area 99% of time. It's as though they really DO NOT want you picked up..., cars can't stop for more than five seconds (literally). Noticed MUCH BETTER when traffic chaos people are not there STANDING IN TRAFFIC LANES!

Yelp
Boarding flight to Paris for a week. Work and some desserve leisure..... Love this terminal. IAH has come such long way to become a great airport. Is amazing the creativity of arquitects to build and upgrade this airport using basically the existing real state. Always enjoy the United lounge as well. ".Je te verrai plus tard dans une semaine"

Yelp
Probably the most beautiful terminal at this airport (at least more beautiful than Term A). This is 1 of 2 United terminals and there are many food options and shops here. Free wifi with good connectivity at the airport. TSA security lines are reasonable and with an average of 10 min wait for pre-check. There is 1 rental car center (where all the rental cars are located) at the airport and a bus that takes you there. ....| \ _ , , , - - , , _ , .../ , ` . - ' ` ' . _ \ - ; ; ; , _ ..| , a - ) ) _ . ; . Yelp
Most of the breakfast menu wasn't available, terrible coffee by Wendy's standards and no napkins.

Yelp
Construction and traffic, took me all day to get to gate E for real! Spend over 2 hours picking up a love one from the airport y'all need to do something about this cluster situation!

MariaAngeles C.

Yelp
Terminal E reeks of bbq smoked smell that impregnates your clothes, your soul. I cannot even breathe, and it affects my sinuses. As soon as I get home I think I'm just going to throw away my clothes and take a long shower and hit the eucalyptus sauna to see if I can get this smell out of my brain.

Yelp
I ended up here for a layover flight. Our incoming terminal was one over from the departing terminal which was great. The decor was nice and there are a few eating spots you could enjoy before your flight if you have time. The only complaint from my short visit is the women's bathroom. I expected that this huge nice airport would have plenty of bathroom stalls. The location by Gate E11, the line was backed up and there are only about 6-7 stalls if I can remember. We had a short layover, so it could be inconvenient if you don't have a lot of time.

Yelp
Ok I realize it's hard like super hard to social distance people in an airport but the people were not all that bad. The places it fell short was the airport it's self. Baggage check in. There's no wipes sanitizer for the terminals. Next tsa they touched my drivers license plus EVERYONE else's. Then security did a pat down and didn't change gloves also the carrier you but your things in for the X-ray are not being wiped after people are putting their shoes in. this place needs a revamp on COVID safety

Yelp
Houston is probably one of my least favorite places to visit. And it all starts with this airport. If you can, DO NOT FLY UNITED AIRLINES. ITS LITERALLY A SHOTSHOW HERE. Started off with arriving into terminal E on a domestic flight. Because E is an international terminal, when flying domestic, you have to go to terminal C to get your baggage. Like most visitors, I had no clue about this so followed the "baggage claim" signs which took me out of security only to find out I should have made the short walk inside. Too late. So I went to the train, which was closed. A United employee told me that I had to pickup the shuttle bus and gave me perfect instructions on how to do so. I waited 30+ mins for the bus though. When I finally made it back to the right claim, my 2 bags were the only ones left. It took me over an hour to make it to my rental car. On the way out 2 days later, I had the same problem. Our gate was in terminal E but the Line through security was over 40 mins and NO SEPARATE PRECHECK LINE. I literally walked over to terminal C and made it through security in 3 minutes and then walked back to our gate at E. If I hadn't done that, I would have missed my flight. This place fuckn sucks. Fly American or fly into Hobby instead. AVOID UNITED AIRLINES at all costs.

Yelp
By George, I think we've got it! I'm so glad we got rid of the Bushes though. Both in Presidential and Grooming terms. But anyway. Pretty fancy terminal of a pretty fancy airport for an absolutely spectacular beautiful city which features a lot of business people coming and going which is probably why the airport is one of the nicer ones. Still not one of my favorites though. This terminal is shiny and new compared to the others, but gets really backed up because they seem to divert way too many flights through it, maybe because it's putting their best Bushy foot forward. The food options here are awful, but then that is true about almost every terminal at almost every airport in the world. GRU in SP, I'm not looking at you.

Yelp
LOVE this airport. They totally updated this place - though it has been years since I've been here but what I loved was there's so much seating - with outlets to charge your electronics - plus they have tablets on tables that allow you to play games, order food, check on your flight... And get connected to other apps. When you order your food - you pay on the tablet and they bring you the food! They check in on you - refill the hot water, cold water, whatever. And there's nice music playing too. Great ambiance. Did I say you can check your flight? Just scan your ticket and you can see the current status and the gate. Wish all airports were like this!! Don't mind travelling through this airport - what a positive experience.

Yelp
I've never had much of an issue at George Bush international airport. Since the pandemic it seems to be well kept and cleaned continuously. I have also never had a difficult time going through security, As well as less than 10-30 minute wait to get through TSA.
google avatar

Yelp
This terminal is very clean and bright. I stepped off the plane and was immediately enamored with the energy of the space - all of the bright items in the kiosk adjacent to the gate, the large amount of seats and charging stations all around, and restaurants bustling with people. It was busy but not overly crowded in here and the architecture of the terminal lent itself to a feeling of open space and accessibility. I hasn't been through this terminal previously and was pleasantly surprised by the structure of it as I passed through quickly to get to terminal C for my connecting flight. It is quite a little hike to get over there from this terminal, but a pleasant one at that. Next time I'm here I will eat at the BBQ restaurant in the middle of the concourse so I can sit amongst the beautiful parts of the giant copper still.
google avatar

Laurie S.

Yelp
They have computer stations everywhere! You can use their's or charge your own. You can order food or drinks and play games all while waiting for your flight. They also have a restroom for dogs!! You need to make sure you have enough time between flights if you have a transfer because it can take you up an escalator, on a sky tram then down the escalator just to get to your gate. It took us 20 minutes and we walked a steady pace. But if you happen to be on United and download the app- it will tell you how long it will take and even give you a map
google avatar

Tomas A.

Yelp
Terrible service!!! So sad because nice location and decoration. At 10:30 PM Houston time the waitress rudely denied service !!! Too much technology , but dreadful service . Understandable that they pretend each customer order from individual computers in the bar, because the customer service does not exist at all!! Besides for just one cider and one single rum and coke , they were planning to charge 40.50 USD!!! What is that? A scam? Never again to stop at this ridiculous bar!!
google avatar

Carlton J.

Yelp
The cheaper airport for Houston. It's just too far though. Very clean though. Smooth process to board.
google avatar

Brian G.

Yelp
Dramatic overhauls in the last couple of years - great areas to hang out, great shopping, great restaurants and bars. Definitely two thumbs out. Keep I up, keep it clean and shiny :)
google avatar

Dennis D.

Yelp
What a crazy big airport. It's huge. Probably the nicest airport I've ever been in. Service here is great. We took a 10 passenger golf cart. Too far to walk. I'm impressed
google avatar

Denise W.

Yelp
Been flying in and out of this airport quite frequently lately. the airport is huge. Walking from one terminal to another will take forever so get a ride. You can easily get lost here. This airport is basically the hub of United and American Airlines. There is free wifi here. Also there are plenty of restaurants here. Papadeaux, Wendy's etc. Lots of choices.
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
If there was negative stars, I would put it in. IAH claims to be the best airport. That is comical. The airport is dirty as hell, the bathrooms are a shit-hole. You try to ask employees for directions, they are rude as hell. DO NOT GET A CONNECTING FLIGHT THROUGH THIS AIRPORT! It is a shit-hole. If you want to use the bathrooms that are dirty, this is the place. If you want to deal with rude employees, this is the place. Out of many airports I have flown into. This airport is disgusting.. Use a connective flight elsewhere!
google avatar

Gene T.

Yelp
I am getting used to this airport I think! Seems to flow! Amenities are good. Staff has been good. Signage could be better. I did take a wrong turn once. Fairly modern. I will definitely take this airport over many others. Depending on where I am going I would not hesitate picking this airport as a stop.
google avatar

Sasha E.

Yelp
Terminals D and E are my absolute favorites at the IAH airport system. It has wide open spaces, great natural lighting, abundant seating (with tables), and has plenty of vendors. Also, and most importantly, its pretty clean and has an overall updated modern feeling. There are plenty of vendors, from kiosks to dine-in restaurants. The variety of options for food is great, they've got almost anything you're craving. There's also a pretty good selection of retail. If you've got time to spare and are in another terminal, you can connect to these via the underground tram. You can also easily walk over to terminal E from C. If you are a little shorter on time, most of the larger and more popular vendors are on Google maps, you can use that as a quick reference in navigating.
google avatar

Sarena H.

Yelp
The parking , quick security lines, shopping, food options and convenient charging outlets I have to say it's 5 stars! Of course no airport is perfect and the airport is not to blame if your flight is delayed.. I fly United Airlines so this airport is non negotiable for me and I love it! Please always check your gate because it changes often without warning !!
google avatar

Christian W.

Yelp
What a sick airport!!!! Landed here for connection and was near the E terminals. Such cool decorations and small pop up shops lining the corridors. Entire walls were covered in decor that related to the cuisine (ie Japanese) in addition to some sweet sculptures. Downside is they do not have outlets connected to chairs outside of the gates and instead have these odd towers that are peppered throughout the area with limited plugs...kind of a bummer. Staff leaves something to desire but let's be honest, most airport staff regardless of the airport/country are pretty bland.
google avatar

Charles M.

Yelp
I'm always in Houston and this is my favorite part of the airport. The tree is epic. The cow stands as a sign that I am in "Houston we have a problem" country! I always take a picture of the statue no matter how many times I come to Houston.
google avatar

Flora Z.

Yelp
A modern and huge airport! Always clean, bright and cheerful. Some of the restaurants are pretty interesting. It also has unique airport arts. The airport is so big that it is better to take a ride from terminal to terminal. On the down side, it is far away from the city.
google avatar

Sara A.

Yelp
I normally hate airports but this is the easiest one and always happy to travel from here. It is pretty straight forward with where to go, the check in is as slow as normal but the people that work there are very nice! I have never had anyone rude and always helpful. Last time I almost missed my flight and they made sure to work as quick as possible to ensure I didn't. LAX is another story and I'm staying away from it !
google avatar

Yelp
My 1st landing here.. very impressed by its modern spacious and thoughtful design. Two thumbs ups, Houston!

Yelp
This review really only accounts for Terminal C, as I had a layover there when coming back from Orlando, FL from the most magnificent and magical vacation in Disneyworld. I could distress into how amazing that trip was, how it made me feel like a child again, and how I almost want to move from the beautiful California to the semi-awesome Orlando so I can always be close to it, but I will not. When we got off the plane and entered into the terminal for our layover, I couldn't believe how new and high-tech the terminal was. There were iPads at every seat at every table (not an exaggeration). The ceiling looked like something out of a space age novel and you could sit down at a restaurant and order your food without even interacting with a waiter (not that this interests me, but leave it to Texas to be the most American piece of America in America). All joking aside, the terminal was flawless, as if it had just recently opened after lengthy renovations, which I think it had. But the people were friendly and the food choices were OFF THE HOOK. Not to mention, there were a couple service dogs that were hanging out and super excited when people walked by and it was just the icing on the cake. I would suggest anybody and everybody experience a layover here at least once so you can be transported into the future (unlike being transported into the past at Salt Lake City International).

Yelp
Flew in at 6am then back at 6 pm, from LA and back on Wednesday. United plane was over an hour late and I had been up for 18 hours already. Then we had to go back to the runway because some idiot forgot to latch the cargo area closed. The airport itself was a bit confusing to me as far as meeting someone who was picking me up. I went to where ground transportation was and that apparently wasn't where he wanted to meet. Other than that it's pretty big and nice. Decent selection of coffee places and eateries. Bathrooms were kept clean. I couldn't believe there was a woman in their cleaning the toilets etc all while eating sour creams and onion Pringle's! Yuck who eats while cleaning nasty bathrooms. Other than that it served its purpose.

Amanda S.

Yelp
The horrible experience started in washington dc. Boarded the plane at 530pm, sat on the plane for 1and a half hours. Because someone did not get on the plane. Finally we take off. At 7pm. I was supposed to be on the next plane at 730 pm. We got to Houston at 9 pm sometime. On the plane the flight attendances were great . One told me to go to the service desk when I get off. Ok that's cool. I got off asked for the customer service desk. I was handed a card. At this point. I was hungry and tired. I try to follow the card with instructions online. Now I panicking I was not getting any were. So I see in baggage clam. There is a room with three angels.I got there told them I was having a panic attack. I needed to speak to a person. Not the internet. Shaqueshia got on the computer asked if any one told me my new flight to ca. Was at 505am My response was NO. I did not even get an email letting me know. If it wasn't for her I would have missed my plane. . Shaqueshia being one of the angels on August 25th at about 945pm went out of her way for me. I have such gratitude for her.

Yelp
Not sure if anyone has experienced the iPad restaurant ordering in airports, but IAH airport is the absolute worst. You would think that you wouldn't least get better service since they would not need as much help. But managers and owners now don't even hire the staff for service. Two examples are the Beerhive and El Promisio. El Promisio we had to cancel order as 40 minute wait and asked for waters but canceled orders and then got waters. Again short staff. Several customers canceled order before we did. Went somewhere else for food with actual service employees. Then went to Beerhive just for a glass of wine, ordered by IPad system thinking ok, easy right. No, another 20 minutes, had to find where the actual wine came from as no one behind bar. Found it comes from Q smokehouse and went to retrieve the glass of wine. 10 minutes longer in line to finally get that glass of wine. Just an FYI on these IPad ordering systems..... Stay away. Save Time and money!

Yelp
This is one of the busiest terminal, which United Airlines use both international and domestic flights. - There are two gate sections, which are E1-E11 and E12-E24.There is no E13.Why? is it still a bad number? E1 is located behind a food court. - There are many restaurants. You will see some Asian restaurant's red lantern and lucky cats. You can find all kinds of foods including TX BBQ, Mexican, Italian and others. If you want to eat something cheap, please go to Panda Express near E2.The food court besides E1 has great views of the air crafts. - If you are a Japanese, you can not enjoy great vending machines anymore. You have to buy some drinks at grocery stores. You might find Japanese green tea. - If you are a Japanese, you can't see any" washlet" which is super clean toilet. You have to remember that the restrooms are super dirty and mess. - If you have to stay more than 3 hours and need to do some paper work, you may go to the terminal C gate 1-15,which has chairs and long desks. - Sometime, i have to see people sleeping on the floor.Terminal D might be little bit better to sleep. - If you want to switch the seats, please check the kiosk at customer services. Enjoy our airports!

Yelp
I fly through this airport quite frequently and have found it to be clean, organized and easy to maneuver. Plenty of restaurants, cafe's and souvenir shops. The USO is close by as the United Lounge. Plenty of information booths and free WiFi.

Yelp
Tons of food and drink options, which is always great. They have the screens where you ca sit and browse menu, play games, etc as well as pay there. I had ramen and that was a mistake...it tasted reallyyyy strange. Corrected my mistake and walked further down for a quesadilla haha

Yelp
Super nice airport with lots of modern features. Polite people and welcoming environment. TSA here is a breeze and a pleasure to deal with (SEATTLE IS THE WORST). One of the better airports you'll find in the US. I was flying United and loved my travel.
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
This is the airport I am at daily for work so I have seen it be at its top and also at not its best!! I fly mainly out of the C and D gates and and each are easily reached after passing through TSA checkpoints. The checkpoints are fast as considering the volume, expect about a 15 minute wait time. Beyond security you will find a full service airport from quick fast food to full service restaurants - banks to nail salons. There are a few moving sidewalks to help with moving crowds along however they are often under construction. In the gate areas you will have free wifi and a few power ports to charge your personal devices! I hope to see you passing through the airport!!

Yelp
Overall a nice airport with Creek lines and a 10 of people at both TSA as well as the airline staff There was plenty of food options and even shopping It had one of the most impressive center I'll bars I've seen very modern and upscale in its approach to using which often vacant and under utilized space in an airport
