The Best Restaurants In The Sunset - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Sunset was already dense with Chinese restaurants when Terra Cotta Warrior opened in 2014, but by offering something different—specifically Shaanxi cuisine from Northwest China—it’s become one of the most popular spots in the neighborhood. At its heart, this place is a regional burger spot, with several options of cumin lamb (the dominant protein on the menu), pork, beef, and veggie burgers, or rou jia mo, stuffed into skillet-toasted Chinese buns. You’re also going to want to become acquainted with their hand-pulled noodles and cold shredded potatoes in particular, because either will help cool your mouth down and bring it back to life after all the heat and numbness. There are a few small veggie dishes like cabbage in chili oil and broccoli with garlic too, but this place is first and foremost for those of us who love meaty sandwiches." - Julia Chen 1, Lani Conway, Will Kamensky, Tamara Palmer, Ricky Rodriguez

Terra Cotta Warrior - Review - Sunset - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The Sunset was already dense with Chinese restaurants when Terra Cotta Warrior opened in 2014, but by offering something different—specifically Shaanxi cuisine from Northwest China—it’s become one of the most popular spots in the neighborhood. At its heart, this place is a regional burger spot, with several options of cumin lamb (the dominant protein on the menu), pork, beef, and veggie burgers, or rou jia mo, stuffed into skillet-toasted buns. You’re also going to want to become acquainted with their hand-pulled noodles and cold shredded potatoes in particular, because either will help cool your mouth down and bring it back to life after all the heat and numbness. There are a few small veggie dishes like cabbage in chili oil and broccoli with garlic too, but this place is first and foremost for those of us who love meaty sandwiches. Food Rundown 3-In-1 Biang Biang Noodles The super can’t-feel-my-face showstopper at Terra Cotta Warrior is this plate of wide wheat noodles topped with cubes of dry-fried pork, scrambled egg in tomato gravy, and an intimidating mountain of numbing peppercorns. 3-In-1 biang biang noodles should be an official dish of San Francisco rather than a well-kept secret tucked in the Outer Avenues. Chili Oil Wonton The technicolor hue of red in the chili oil wonton shows you that you’ll be feeling the heat once you pop one of these small boiled pork dumplings in your mouth. There’s a flutter of cilantro on top to add a small herbal finish. Mixed Cold Shredded Potatoes If rice and noodles are your reflexive side orders at Chinese restaurants, shake it up a bit and get some mixed cold shredded potatoes. The plate of blanched shreds looks like it’s about to go into some hot oil to make hash browns, but instead, you get crunchiness without deep frying. The addition of jalapeño will keep you buzzing, too. Pork With Garlic Sauce Share this appetizer, but only get it if you’re with garlic lovers who don’t mind having garlic breath for the rest of the night and possibly into the next day. Thin slices of cold pork are doused in oiled-up pieces of garlic that can overpower your whole meal, especially if you eat too much of it by yourself. But the bottom layer of cucumber slices help to restore your palate. Cabbage With Chili Sauce In this interplay between crunchy and sweet vinegar pickled cabbage and carrot and a metric ton of jalapeño slices, the chili pepper is what will hit you over the head. It’s good if you’re ready for that kind of extreme bite, and too much if you’re not. Spicy Sliced Beef A simple appetizer of cold slices of beef marinated with red chili pepper and topped with cilantro will start Terra Cotta Warrior meal nicely. Your sauce-requiring friends may lament the lack of a dip on the side, but can doctor it how they like." - Tamara Palmer

Google
Super fair prices especially for San Francisco! Had a melody of dishes and all of them were definitely at least above average, most were delicious! The cold noodles and pig’s ears were tasty and I also liked the pork biang noodles. Service was super friendly as well, definitely come and try this hidden gem in the Sunset!

Google
The food here was very good. Value of the food was reasonable, flavourful and decent pricing. Their cumin lamb is seasoned very well, not too salty like other places. The hot and sour wonton was on point, loved the spiciness and then you get a kick of tanginess/sour. The pigs ear was on point, not too chewy and not too tough, the flavour melded pretty well. The beef noodle soup was very good, thin slice of beef shank/flank, the noodles was perfect and the soup made it well. Friendly staff, however, once you receive your food, the staff doesn’t care about you anymore especially when you need to refill of hot water for your tea. Overall, excellent value for the food.

Google
The server was really nice and helpful! I would say this is the most authentic Chinese noodle dishes and it’s not too spicy and not too sweet’ just at the point. It’s perfectly fits American taste! I had a wonderful experience at here! I would highly recommend!

This place is located on a main street in a neighborhood. Was able to find parking in front of the restaurant on a Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. As a first-timer, I ordered the spicy sliced beef 5/5 which reminded me of the first time I had this dish at a very well known biang biang restaurant in Xi'an, flavors were spot on and delicious! I also ordered the original Shaanxi style pork burger 3/5. It was a bit bland for me; perhaps I should have gotten the cumin lamb burger, which would have been more authentic. Lastly, the three in one biang biang noodles 5/5! This was recommended by my server and was packed with amazing flavor! Service was great considering the restaurant was completely full. Surprisingly, every dish was very well priced, and portions were generous. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and will be back to try several other dishes!

Google
Absolutely delicious, everything was good but make sure you order a dish with noodles. All the noodle dishes my group ordered were all perfectly balanced in flavor, and the texture and bounce of the noodles was amazing. I’ve been thinking about those noodles ever since I had them last night! Hope to go back soon. Service was pretty quick and the ambiance was comfortable.

Google
Transcendent noodle experience. #26, #27, chili oil wontons, broccoli Perfect dinner for 2

Google
We came here years ago and had a fine experience. On our most recent experience, the server was inattentive, rushed and impatient. One of the teacups had an obvious chili oil stain on it. One of our cold dishes had some vegetable packaging mixed in. The food itself was fine, but overall a disappointing experience.

Google
First time here. Loved everything. We stared with spicy tofu and spinach salad. The 7 year old had the pork burger. Top two items were the vegetables with giant noodles and the hot spicy beef noodles.

Yelp
Noodles and spice, all things nice. Came here with a few friends for dinner and my spouse and I have been here a few times, once the power went out but our food was already served, so we had some fun trying to eat in the dark-- it was a great adventure! The restaurant is located in the outer sunset and a treasure! Service is quick but the food does not disappoint. We ordered the lamb burger, pig's ear with garlic, gluten with bean sprouts, diced pita bread soaked in clear lamb soup, and the three in one biang biang noodles. All the items came out fairly quick and each had such magnificent and delicious flavor. I really love the biang biang noodles as it has some spice to it! The lamb burger also has a spicy kick to it as it is flavored in cumin. The noodles for the biang biang dish were chewy and soaked up a lot of the flavor so it was very tasty slurping it up! My spouse and come here often as it is a gem and their food is amazing!

Yelp
biang biang noodles with cumin lamb were delicious, as was the pig ear! noodles were chewy and the pig ear was sliced thin and had a kick! would definitely order again. pass on the chili wontons though. they're small and oddly a little sweet? the chili oil wasn't spicy or flavorful imo and our table left that one unfinished. service was non-existent unless we flagged them down, which was fine for our purposes since our group was deep in convo. however one thing i can't get out of my mind is that when a pair of chopsticks fell on the ground, a server picked them up and put them back on the clean place setting... yikes.

Yelp
The lamb burger is a MUST order as well as the Lamb Biang Biang noodles. I personally only order the lamb here because it is that good! The Biang Biang noodles are like chow fun but wider. So good and addicting that we ordered a 2nd order after we slurped down the first. This restaurant was always busy (pre-COVID) but it had died down since then and is easier to get a walk-in. SUPPORT LOCAL! They need our business :)

Yelp
This is such a hole in the wall place! I love coming here when I crave Chinese food and small eats. We got here around 7pm on a Wednesday and there was plenty of seating still. We ordered black fungus cucumber, pig ear, shanxi cold noodle, beef noodle soup and biang biang noodles with pork! All of their noodles are hand made and hand pulled, the texture is chewy and al dente. I loved the flavor of the biang biang noodles - it was savory and sweet and had a kick of spice to it. The beef noodle soup came with a generous amount of beef and the broth was delicious, very flavorful and not too salty. The cold noodles were good as well although I wished it had a slight more vinegar taste to it. Pig ear did not disappoint, the numbing spice taste was on point. The black fungus mushrooms helped ease the spice of all our dishes. The prices are very good for SF too, I hope this place never changes.

Yelp
Dined in with my sister--it's so hard to find biang biang noodles in SF for some reason, even though it's very popular in NYC; this was the only restaurant in SF that I think offers it, so we made the trek out on a gloomy early evening after Stern Grove to try it out! Even though we arrived ~15 min before opening, the waitress let us in and out of the cold to be seated while waiting inside. We were immediately served hot tea, which was so greatly appreciated! First thing we noticed was that the tables were sticky / had a sticky residue; not sure if it was from the cleaning product that they used, but it was a bit off-putting. We ordered the 3 in one to share, but found the serving size to be rather lacking, and also wished there was more flavor/umami. We saw a table next to us order the lamb cumin noodle, so we followed up our order with that one as well, but was also hoping this one was more flavorful. Noodle texture was perfect though! So fun and bouncy.

Yelp
Affordable prices for a good amount of food. Not crowded on a Thursday evening. Spice level was decent. Liang pi flavor was on point. The three in one biang biang was interesting, but I probably would try another flavor next time. They serve tea with the sit down meal.

Yelp
This review is for takeout only. From what I could tell, the inside of the restaurant looked spacious and would be comfortable to dine in. Order was ready earlier than expected and pickup was very easy. I appreciated that my cumin lamb and pork burgers were wrapped in foil to keep them nice and warm for the drive back home. All of the food we got were very flavorful with filling portions. The chili wontons could maybe have a bit more filling and the skin kind of stuck together, but it still tasted good. My favorite were the cumin lamb burger and sesame paste cold noodle. Shared the meal with my Chinese parents, and they said they'd go dine in sometime!

Yelp
These windy SF cold days need Shaanxi food to warm us up, so we headed to Terracotta Warrior. Once inside, we sat at a large table with a long bench surrounded by Chinese art. Shaanxi is in northwest China and their food consists of yummy 'Chinese hamburgers,' lamb noodle soup, spicy beef, and cool pickled cucumber. The food here is authentic with decent portions! Prices here are very reasonable, with fresh quality ingredients. The spicy beef was well marinated; the lamb in the soup was soft and not too gamey (wish there were more). Service is quick and efficient.

Yelp
Solid contender for go-to places for comfort food on a cold and drizzly day in SF! We tried: - shaanxi burgers with cumin lamb and pork - stuffed to the brim with filling and very satisfying to hold and dig into - hot and spicy sliced beef noodle soup - heavy on the spices but not actually too spicy, so flavorful and warming - three-in-one biang biang noodles - the three toppings actually worked so well together - the tomato egg brought some brightness/acidity to balance out the savoriness/thickness of the pork and sizzling oil After eating here you feel prepared to brave the elements!

Yelp
Best cumin lamb biang biang noodles I've had in terms of flavor! The lamb was tender and portions are large too. We also tried the pita lamb soup which was new to us and a pleasant surprise! The pita bread did not get soggy and stayed chewy till the end. I'd definitely come back for just these two dishes if I'm craving something comforting and warm.

Yelp
My friend and I arrived on a Wednesday evening with no reservation. We were seated promptly upon arrival. The biang biang noodles here are their signature dishes, and we got two different kinds to share. The tomato egg biang biang noodles definitely hit the spot and was a childhood fave from the traditional tomato egg dish. However, I much preferred the biang biang noodles with pork as the wok hei of that dish really stood out to me. The cucumber salad was nice and a refreshing complement to our dishes. The place is super cute and cozy! Really enjoyed the bench seating and the hot tea provided for these cold winter evenings in SF. I always make an effort to come back here everytime I visit home.

Yelp
Ordered to go during rush hour dinner time. Biang biang noodle with lamb and cumin and 3 in 1 biang biang noodle. Service was super fast. Lamb and cumin biang biang noodle was delicious. I would order this again. Can definitely taste the cumin flavor and went well with the noodles. I'm pretty sure they mixed up my 3 in 1 biang biang noodle, however it was still tasty. Very similar and comparable to a tomato beef noodle dish at a Chinese restaurant. However it was with lap cherng and a bit tangier. Hopefully next time I'm able to try the real 3 in 1 biang biang noodle.

Yelp
Second time here, ordered the lamb soup with pita and cumin lamb biang biang noodles. I liked the soup, though like last time it's a bit weird that the pita was diced, in China you would always rip pieces off yourself. The noodles were good but not spicy enough for my taste and way too oily. Large quantities. I do think this is the best Shaanxi restaurant in SF. But there's room for improvement. Waiters were friendly but took long to respond, so we had to wait a bit to order and get the bill. Decorations are nice, definitely a Shaanxi vibe. And don't think this was the case last time, for some reason our table was very sticky. The entire table was uniformly sticky so I don't think it was dirty, might be a cleaning product they use. But still.

Yelp
Great food and fast service! Got the tofu spicy sauce, burger stuffed mixed veggie, vegetable biang biang noodles sizzling oil, and shaanxi cold noodle. Really appreciated that there were plenty of vegetarian options! The burger stuffed mixed veggie was a great mix of a little bit of everything: shredded potatoes, bean sprouts, cucumber, and wheat gluten. The shaanxi cold noodle was also delicious but similar toppings to the burger. Also maybe a tad bit more sour than I'm used to. The veggie noodles with sizzling oil was the best!! Love those super wide, long noodles! The sauce on the tofu was really good but the tofu itself was lackluster, maybe a softer tofu would have been better? Would probably skip that dish next time.

Yelp
I've never tried Biang Biang noodles before. I believe it's from the Szechuan region of China. We had the ff: Spicy Sliced Beef - Thinly sliced, I found a bit chewy. Black Fungus Cucumber - Delicious woodear mushrooms and cucumbers. Great combo, crunchy and tasty. Spinach Salad - Sautéed tender spinach with garlic and oil. Yum. Three in one Biang noodles - Noodles were wider, thicker, about a foot long from the average noodle. Very tender, tasted home made and super delish. This was everyone's fave. Biang Biang Noodles with Cumin Lamb - Spicy noodles with a unique flavor of lamb with cumin. Yes! Chili Oil Wonton - tender wontons also looked and tasted home made. But it sticks to each other causing the wonton to break apart. The bill came out to only $69 for 3 people. What a deal! The place was packed and service, super quick. Another great find in the City. Definitely will return to try their other dishes.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've been over, but I really enjoyed the 羊肉泡馍 (diced pita bread with lamb in soup). As a Northern Chinese girlie, I approve of this dish lol. Side dishes were also good and refreshing. the portion size was also pretty good. Was hard to park in this neighborhood. Would come back and try more items on the menu!
google avatar

Yelp
All of the food that we tried here was exceptional! It's definitely one of the best Chinese food places in the Sunset area. Service was prompt and nice, and the restaurant was clean and popular.
google avatar

Grace Y.

Yelp
Pretty decent place for Xian cuisine. I got their cumin lamb biang biang noodle and the portion size was good. The lamb was very tender but I wish the cumin flavor was even more pronounced. We got their spicy beef Chinese hamburger as well (rou jia mo) and it was not bad (but definitely not the best I've had).

Yelp
Terra Cotta Warrior has been on my list for the longest time, and I finally got to try it. Got in on a Sunday night, and there wasn't really a wait. It just took a while for someone to come to the front to seat us. The biang biang noodles weren't spicy at all, but the cumin was prominent. I thought the noodles were pretty good. The pita bread was basically the burger bread. The soup was a bit too bland for me. The burger was okay. The pork could have been more tender. It's really affordable. I think it came out to around $15 per person after tax and tip.
google avatar

Lisa B.

Yelp
My South Bay coworker, who is from Shanxi province originally, recommended this place to me. Get the 3-in-1 biang biang noodles and spicy beef rou ja mou ("Chinese burger")!
google avatar

Nick W.

Yelp
The food was awesome and authentic. This is a spin off normal Chinese restaurants, they have really good noodle soup and their burgers are completely authentic as wells "burgers" you may ask? Yes burgers! They have different Asian style cooked meats wrapped in bao, kinda like Peking duck wraps but for different type of meat. This place is known for spicy, if you don't like spicy I would look over the menu before coming. The service was prompt and responsive. Very respectable staff who care to your needs. The ambience was quiet and friendly. They had newer age music for a younger crowd but it was dimmed and not blaring in your ears so a person could carry a conversation without being interrupted. I got the: Cold jelly fish for an appetizer salad. The spicy beef soup for my entree (it's pretty cold in the sunset). I got the pork burger because my girlfriend doesn't like spicy food. She got the beef soup without the spice. We were both very satisfied and full leaving the place only spending 50$ and of course a tip. Bringing it close to 60 for 2 appetizers and 2 bowls of soup. What a find, I have been looking to try out this restaurant for a few months now and I was not disappointed, although I slightly cheated and got a burger from here before we actually went for a date here (hehehe). 2 thumbs up. Very clean. Very prompt. Nothing constructive to add keep it up guys/gals.

Yelp
Loooved the authentic Chinese food here!! The biang biang noodles with tomato were my favorite, followed by the lamb burger. I was very excited for the shaanxi cold noodle but it was lacking a bit of flavor... still satisfies the craving though. Only quirk was that they were out of cups for water somehow? But I was just looking for great food, so the service was good enough for me!

Yelp
Came here early on a Saturday night. Ambience was wonderful and vibey!! Barely a wait since we got there earlier We got the sliced beef burger and the original pork one (non spicy) they were HEFTY portions and we probably could've just gotten one . I really liked them I just wish there was a lil slaw or pickle to cut through the greasy oil and meat since it was quite unexpectedly heavy. We also got the biang biang noodles w lamb and cumin and those were delicious! I loved the texture and thickness of the noodle. The lamb was well cooked too and gave some crunch for the chewy noodle. We also got the hot and sour wonton soup which was possibly my favorite thing. I loved how the heat was balanced here and it was the perfect food on a rainy day. Service was great too and waitstaff was super attentive and kind.

Yelp
Honestly this might just be my favorite Chinese restaurant in California. I used to come here all the time when I lived in SF. Their food just cannot be beat. I always order the biang biang noodles, the sichuan mian pi, and the spicy pork burger. So freaking bomb!! If you come on a Friday night, be prepared to wait. So worth it though!
google avatar

Cyn C.

Yelp
I was sad to be disappointed by the food here. I was looking forward to Xi'an-style cuisine. We had cold jellyfish for the appetizer, and there was something off with the texture. It was not crunch or slimy. It was slippery. Next, we tried the spicy pork bun, it was dry, and the meat had too much fat. Last, we shared the three kinds biang biang noodles, and the noodles were the only good thing about the dish. It was soft and buttery and melted in your mouth; however, the toppings and sauce ruined it for me .
google avatar

Yelp
Top favorite in its category for sure! Been coming here for a few years and cannot help but order the same dishes we like and get to discover newer ones when brining friends and family. Service is good and the ambiance is nice. Here is what we've ordered. Recommend: Soft tofu with preserved egg Biang Biang lamb with cumin Shanxi Cold Noodles with sesame paste Clear lamb soup with soaked pita bread Just ok: Beef noodle soup Cucumber salad Lamb burger Was not a fan of: Hot spicy beef noodle soup, it's actually delicious but way too spicy for our table Quick tip: street parking typically available, come early or late on the weekends.

Yelp
Quick Summary: - Restaurant is located along Judah, so one can take the MUNI N line - Not so much parking places - I have low spice tolerance, and the spicy dishes were hardly spicy, pretty easy to eat We arrived here for dinner minutes before it opened, so we got to sit. After some decision making, we ordered the Qishan Noodles with sour pork and the wonton with chili oil. Tea was served the moment we were seated; I believe it tasted like Jasmine tea. Very good and perfect for the chilly district. The wonton dumplings arrived first and as if timed well, when the wonton plate was cleared, then the noodles arrived. Returning to the wonton dumplings, these were super good! I was in love with the filling to skin portion: the filling portion is small and it's wrapped around with a large skin. I tend to love the wonton skin, so I got to taste the silky and slippery texture of the skin. The meat filling is delicious too! I believe it was pork. Even though it appears to be a stark ratio of meat and skin, I thought this was really nice to have. The meat is flavorful enough that it doesn't leave the wonton skin hanging. The chili oil, in which I thought would cause me to cough from the spiciness, it didn't bite back. While the first bite did sting in the throat, I got used to the spice right away. Onto the noodles, and these were super good too! This was also marked with a chili icon, but it wasn't spicy in my opinion. The spice is felt, but it's weaker than hot and sour soup. Speaking of hot and sour soup, I would compare this noodle soup with it but with more vinegary sourness. I love sour dishes, so this was wonderful amount of sourness. It also cut and balance our the fat from the pork pieces in the dish; this made it very easy to eat it. We ended up drinking the whole bowl because the soup was so good. This noodle dish also contains tiny cubes of raw potatoes. It gave a crisp crunchy texture in a spoonful bite. I also loved the noodles. It's white in color, so I assumed this was made with flour? It's not springy but it has a nice chew. Went well with the soup because the pork fat and sour soup coated over them

Yelp
Came here with 2 other friends on a Friday for dinner right when they opened and didn't have to wait! The food was very yummy! I ordered the Three in One Biang Biang Noodles and asked for less spicy because I have very low spice tolerance. The noodles were very bouncy and chewy and weren't spicy at all! One of my friends ordered the diced pita bread soaked in clear lamb soup and I tried a bite and it was very good as well! I haven't really seen that dish in restaurants in the Bay Area so it was quite a pleasant surprise to see.

Yelp
**Updated Review:** I recently went back to Terra Cotta Warrior after ten years, and I am glad I did. The menu looks great, the food is amazing, and the service is spot on. It's awesome to see this place living up to its potential. Terra Cotta Warrior definitely deserves five stars now. I'll be coming back often!

Yelp
This is a great spot for families and small groups alike. Huge bonus that complimentary tea is served upon being seated, as well! - Cold Noodles with Spicy Sesame: The cold noodles were firm and chewy in the best way, and the tofu was so delicious, but you definitely need to mix really well/dip your noodles into the sauce to get the whole flavor experience! - Mixed Cold Jellyfish: My favorite dish of the evening -- this was so crunchy, light, and refreshing. - Hot and Sour Soup with Lamb Dumplings: The soup was piping hot, and the dumplings were cooked to perfection. I wish I knew how they made the dumpling wrappers so doughy and soft. Small dishes came out pretty much instantaneously, while the soup dish took a bit more time. These dishes completely filled us up and came out to be a little over $30, which is a great deal by SF dinner price standards.

Yelp
For authentic Shaanxi food in SF, look no further than Terra Cotta Warrior, one of the few restaurants serving the authentic, spicy cuisine of this region of China. To start, the Shaanxi Style Burgers were made of a round, hard "pita" flatbread with a stuffing of meat. I tried both the traditional savory shredded pork and the super spicy cumin lamb, and both sandwiches were explosively delicious. My favorite dish was the Three in One Biang-Biang Noodles, made of super chewy, wide handmade noodles with a topping of tomato/egg, chili oil, and fatty chunks of Qi-Shan pork. Each of the toppings was distinct in flavor (it's best to eat them separately), but the best part was simply the super chewy noodles for their texture. Finally, we had the Lamb Paomo, a hearty broth with slices of tender, gamey lamb, glass noodles, woodear mushrooms, and chunks of diced pita bread. Amazingly, despite the fact that the bread was soaked in hot soup, the chunks retained a pleasantly chewy texture. Overall, the flavors here were authentic and on point, and everything came at a great value too! The service at this neighborhood spot was quick and efficient, and the ambiance made for a nice backdrop.

Yelp
Lots of great vegetarian options. Very reasonable prices. No wait when we went on a weekday. Street parking on the side streets. Noodles and burger dish were tasty.

Yelp
Had this place booked marked for awhile. Ordered to go. Three in One Biang Baing Noodles - I liked the noodles, tomato egg, and pork. Did not really enjoy the sizzling oil part as it was really salty even after mixing it. Would recommend asking for the seasoning for the sizzling oil on the side if possible. Chili Oil Wonton - Lacked filling and flavor. Cucumber salad - Appreciate that they give a good portion, but a lot of the pieces lacked flavor/didn't get marinated. Maybe it was an off day?

Yelp
One of the best noodle spots in the city! I've been here multiple times and it never disappoints. Their top dishes are - spicy biang biang noodles with cumin lamb - diced pita bread with lamb in noodle soup - tofu with preserved egg

Yelp
Delicious, authentic northern Chinese food, with friendly service and nice decor and atmosphere. There are long tables for groups and smaller tables for dates. Everything we've tried is very tasty, from the appetizers and burgers to the hand-pulled noodles and soups. Our current favorites are the spicy cold shredded potatoes, chili oil wontons, biang biang noodles with cumin lamb (the noodles are so long, a single noodle can be enough for one person, no joke!), and the pita soup. Yes, pita soup! Sounds strange, but tastes sooo good. When we don't get there by the N-Judah, we can easily find street parking nearby.

Yelp
Visited here again last night with my beother (on a very busy night admittedly) and service was excellent and the food was still excellent This time we got the triple combo biang biang noodles, the spicy lamb noodles, a beef and lamb burger, chili wontons, and cucumber salad.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet! It is one of my go-to take out spots. My go to order is the spicy tofu, garlic broccoli, and biang biang noodles. The biang biang noodles are AMAZING - hand pulled, full of flavor, very authentic. Also, reasonable price point for the amount and quality of food you are given!

Yelp
For takeout Terra Cotta was a really nice option given that I wanted to try their Biang Biang Noodles. Per the other reviews not a great Dine in choice at the moment but for me that was not a desire tonight. As for my experience, I order for pickup online around 7pm Saturday evening , and I was advised my food was ready during my drive to the restaurant. Parking was easy, the traffic light, and pickup seamless. Upon my return home though I became aware the restaurant had not packed the requested utensils, nor any sauces to enhance the dishes. I ordered 3 items Shaanix Bun with Pork that was wrapped in foil, which had a nice Bun, and a generous amount of Pork, but it would have been nice if a hot, and or plum sauce was included to enhance the item. The order also included 2 variations of Biang Biang Noodle, the first with Tomato & Egg, that was as expected very mild, it's just a good thing I had some Soy Sauce at home to give it some depth. As for the Noodles they were clumped so a knife was needed to cut the dish into pieces. Three in One Biang Biang Noodles were my third dish that had the same clumped noodle issue. This dish is not sedate, and included a generous amount of Sichuan Pepper, I strongly suggest that the spice be requested on the side rather then piled on top of the dish. I might go back, but I'll be honest I prefer the noodles made at Happy Family Gourmet.

Yelp
Personal Rating: 7/10 quick service, and mouthwatering flavor. Good spot for a group! Headed out to Terra Cotta Warrior for a large group meal with some friends. We ordered a large spread of dishes and only a few minutes after ordering they started rolling out quickly which was great. But I was really hooked by the bold flavors of all the dishes we ordered. The Lamb with pita soup has a smooth lamb flavor and the pita added a real bite to an otherwise light soup. This meal would make amazing cold day comfort food. We also got the 3 in 1 Biang Biang Noodles, which were my favorite. Big Szechuan peppercorn flavor and umami that leaves your mouth watering with every bite. I would say if you're going this dish is a must try!

Yelp
The food is really tasty (that's what matters the most for a restaurant isn't it?). I love their cucumber salad and the cumin lamb noodles. The tomato and egg noodle is also great (we had to get something not spicy for our toddler). Every time we go to SF (we live in San Mateo) and want to have good northern China noodle dish this place is our go-to!

Yelp
Love coming here and also ordering delivery. Great flavors and variety on the menu. Lamb burgers and biang biang noodles are our go-to. The Qishan spicy and sour soup is wonderful. Have eaten or ordered from here a few times each year for five years.

Yelp
This place is 1. Easy to get a seat at 2. Super tasty 3. Inexpensive 4. Legit AF And the service is pretty good, too. So get over there!! My husband is from Xi'an and the food tastes just like he remembers, especially the lamb soup with bread. The pita bread gets torn up and tossed into the broth, which is light yet flavorful and oh so comforting, the perfect accompaniment to the spicy noodles that we ordered, especially the biang biang noodles with cumin lamb, which will have you sweating! I loooove the texture of their clearly handmade noodles. Will definitely be back for these. The rou jia mo was tasty too, but I'm not a huge fan of rou jia mo in general. The cucumber salad was a bit bland. But my mouth is so in love with all the other dishes that I'm giving them five stars.

Yelp
Friends and I came here on a Wednesday night. We'd been planning for it for a few weeks and this seemed like a nice meetup spot out of the immediate city center. Almost everyone in my group got the 3 in 1 biang biang noodles and I got the noodles with lamb and cumin. My noodles were tasty overall but a tad too salty for my liking. Terracotta is one of the only places in the city that serves this type of hand pulled noodle and they're one of the best in the bay. We all enjoyed our food and we're happy to see that this establishment is finally serving food on actually dishware again post pandemic. Will def be back when craving this kind of northern Chinese cuisine.

Yelp
A good noodle shop! A relatively simple menu categorized into: small plates, noodles, and buns. The flat wide noodles were good. The way I ended up ordering, this ended up being a carb heavy meal. You can specify less spicy and they will accommodate. Sichuan style food can get super spicy so I needed this feature!

Yelp
Was looking for a place that had biang biang noodles and decided to try terra cotta warrior. Came on a Tuesday night and there was no wait. We got the sesame cold noodles, biang biang noodles with pork and the pork bun. The noodle dishes were not good and the portions were small. The sesame cold noodles were so bland. There was a hint of sesame flavor but other than that couldn't taste anything else. The biang biang noodles with pork had a vinegary taste to it and we really did not expect the pork to be Chinese sausage which was disappointing. The noodle texture however was good. The pork bun was the best thing we ordered. The bun was crispy and the pork inside was soft and flavorful. Was pretty disappointed by the food so probably won't be back again.

Yelp
Second time eating here! I love the lamb burger. It's basically a pita pocket with delicious lamb in it. On this occasion we went for double lamb and also ordered the biang-biang noodles with lamb. The lamb in this dish was even better than that in the burger. Pro tip save some of the bread/bun/pita and dip it into one of the soups. I did this and it was amazing. We also ordered hot and sour wonton soup and dipping the bread pieces into that was so good. It really tasted like garlic bread. They actually have a soup with a side of pita. If you don't order a burger but get a soup, I'd get some pita on the side for sure. This is now a regular spot for sure.

Yelp
Terrible. I've tried this place twice and both time it's been terrible. I asked the waiter for what they're known for the second time I was there and he didn't really have a solid answer. The food was ok bc we didn't know what to order still after the second time. I see a lot of peopl that go there but I don't get it. It's super weird and I don't understand it and I'm weird. I'm southern Asian and I'm used to weird things but this is absolutely diff for me. please lmk if I'm seeing things wrong bc I'm open to suggestion.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite Chinese food places in the city. I got the pigs ear, chili wonton, 3 in 1 biang biang mein, and the pork sandwich. This is definitely the kind of place you go with a bunch of friends so that you can try a little bit of everything! My favorite dish had to be the chili oil wonton. I love that everything is the kind of spicy that adds an extra depth of flavor and not just burn your mouth till it hurts. Would definitely prefer to go in person so you get everything hot. The noodles weren't as good when they cooled off.
