For authentic Shaanxi food in SF, look no further than Terra Cotta Warrior, one of the few restaurants serving the authentic, spicy cuisine of this region of China. To start, the Shaanxi Style Burgers were made of a round, hard "pita" flatbread with a stuffing of meat. I tried both the traditional savory shredded pork and the super spicy cumin lamb, and both sandwiches were explosively delicious. My favorite dish was the Three in One Biang-Biang Noodles, made of super chewy, wide handmade noodles with a topping of tomato/egg, chili oil, and fatty chunks of Qi-Shan pork. Each of the toppings was distinct in flavor (it's best to eat them separately), but the best part was simply the super chewy noodles for their texture. Finally, we had the Lamb Paomo, a hearty broth with slices of tender, gamey lamb, glass noodles, woodear mushrooms, and chunks of diced pita bread. Amazingly, despite the fact that the bread was soaked in hot soup, the chunks retained a pleasantly chewy texture. Overall, the flavors here were authentic and on point, and everything came at a great value too! The service at this neighborhood spot was quick and efficient, and the ambiance made for a nice backdrop.
