Gonna be honest, came here more for the Fox Brothers than the beer, but was happy with both by the time I left!
Pretty sweet location at the Battery, as they are technically attached to the actual stadium, on the first base side of things, so as you can imagine, during game days of non-Covid years, this place is packed from one side to the other! During my recent visit, there was a game going on, but given Covid, it was a regular day at the restaurant, which made for a shorter than normal wait - and I wasn't complaining!
I already had some friends at the bar, so I wasn't waiting for a table, but when I arrived there were about 10 people waiting to be seated and it took them 20 or so minutes to get through that line. So, they were pretty efficient with turning the tables. We were sat at the bar, which was staffed with (2) bartenders. I sat down and was walked by at least 5 times before one of them decided to check to see if I wanted/needed anything. I will say that the service at the bar was simply atrocious. The bartenders were not friendly, helpful or attentive...nor did they understand the proper way to wear a mask. To be honest, they just seemed disinterested.
Food wise, we started with the fried pickles which were decent. They were crispy and tangy, and plentiful! For our main dishes, we all got something with pulled pork in it, as one would expect when Fox Bros was slinging the meat. I ended up with the Totchos, a bed of crispy tater tots topped with pulled pork, cheese sauce and jalapenos...and of course you can coat it with your preferred bbq sauce. I will say that I really enjoyed the totchos and my peers really enjoyed their bbq sandwiches.
To wash the tots down, I scrolled through their list of draft beers and landed on the Love is Love. It was a light IPA that partnered perfectly with the salty pickles and tots. Speaking of those things, while the service of ordering or generally being cared for was lackluster, the delivery of the food was expeditious and friendly - the food runners were on point!
Overall, this is a solid bar/restaurant when you are in or around the Battery. I will say that they are not social distancing here, but I think that runs true around the Battery. Every table was filled, as well as every seat at the bar and the distance between everything was normal.
I don't live far from the Battery, so next time I am there wondering around, I will probably be doing it with the Terrapin in my hand...but I don't think I will be dining in again.
