The 25 Best Restaurants In Barcelona 2024

"You don’t hike up Montjuïc for any meal—you come for Martínez. People pilgrimage to this buzzy spot for the grilled seafood, lots of Spanish and Catalan wine, and arguably the prettiest views in town. While there’s plenty of paella (known as arroz here) on the beach, this spot somehow makes it taste more exclusive. That and the fact that the seafood is always fresh and local (not a given, sadly), and the rice has plenty of that toasty, slightly burnt-edge crunch called socarrat. You can taste it in the rice, and even more so in the fideuá, the Spanish twist on seafood spaghetti. During the day, book a table on the sun-drenched terrace surrounded by tropical greens and port views, but at night, opt for the slightly more formal dining room with dim lighting and the sexiest views." - isabelle kliger

The 38 Essential Barcelona Restaurants

"There are plenty of places to try paella in Barcelona, but Martínez is the move. Perched on the side of Montjuïc with a panoramic view of the city and port, the restaurant is far removed from the hubbub of the beach district. To justify your journey to the table, dig into the famous rice dishes like the señorito paella — garnished with peeled and shelled seafood, which keeps fingers clean — and the decadent lobster rice, as well as classic tapas and the inviting oyster bar." - Sam Zucker

We came here for the first time 3 years ago and reminisce about that meal often because it was so exceptional. Last night we had the pleasure of revisiting, and it lived up to our precious memories!! Everything from the ambience, the amazing staff and of course the incredible food was to die for, we also lucked out and had a table with a great view. Also, if this item is still on the menu, you must get it: the pork rib and wild garlic rice! The best paella we’ve had (and we’re big seafood fans), I really hope we get to taste it again sometime - in the meantime we’ll be reminiscing!

Nice setting and great service, but the paella was a major letdown… We visited this restaurant in Barcelona to celebrate my birthday. The venue itself is quite charming, but not an extraordinary view, though it has still a pleasant and inviting atmosphere. We had made a reservation about 4-5 days in advance and informed them via email that it was a special occasion. Despite the short notice, they arranged a lovely private balcony table for us, which really elevated the experience. The staff were very attentive and welcoming throughout the evening, and the service was one of the highlights. As for the food, overall, it was generally good. However, the paella – which is one of their signature dishes – was a major disappointment. At €28 per person (€56 total for two), we had high expectations. Unfortunately, it fell short in almost every way. The rice was dry, the seafood was overcooked, and the shrimp hadn’t even been properly cleaned. The dish lacked the depth of flavor you’d expect from a place known for paella, and it just wasn’t enjoyable. It was honestly a shock, and it really dampened the mood of what was supposed to be a special night. In summary, great service and a nice setting, but if you’re going there specifically for the paella, I’d think twice. At that price point, it should have been much, much better. I now see why there are mixed reviews. I think they don’t have a standard and unfortunately, I wouldn’t go there again.

This place was a little confusing to get to if you’re taking public transportation, but so worth the effort! It’s located on top of a hill with a beautiful view of the marina. I went alone for an early dinner and was absolutely blown away. This place is a MUST for the paella. It’s so delicious! I ordered the seafood paella. For dessert, I had the crème Catalan - do not miss this one! It was so smooth and not too sweet. A little on the pricier side, but the ambiance and the food was definitely worth it! 4 stars for atmosphere because the women’s bathroom was not working.

A lovely setting overlooking Barcelona. The Waiter was incredibly helpful explaining the menu and suggesting alternatives or I would have ended up with a starter instead of a main. He talked us through the local dishes we’d chosen and was attentive through out. Would definitely recommend this restaurant as something a bit different if visiting Barcelona.

Excepcional place, we came to have a go to the rices which are one of the specialties and we loved everything. We had a great table with views and the service it was amazing, the food it was delicious full of taste it was certainly the best rice I have ever eaten. Will definitely come back and this time I will have the rice just for me. The wine it was also good. The overall experience it was amazing.

Above average overall and definitely not the wow factor. Lobster was significantly overcooked while the tartar and oysters were deliciously. Friendly staff, beautiful location with great views but a bit overpriced for the experience! Fall short of expectations

One of the best meals I had along with wine pairing. Simply blew my mind. The freshness of ingredient and the finesse with which the taste was extracted was absolutely phenomenal. The croquettes were divine when I say divine I mean heaven. I have never had beef tartare with marrow like this it was just pure umami and pure. The shrimps were so good I had to go for the head and drain it. The lobster was magnificent and the combo with fish just pure artistry. Paella was traditional authenticity. I was absolutely floored with this place - checks every box vibe, place, food and value

Disappointing Visit We recently returned to Martinez, drawn by its lovely location and stunning views. Unfortunately, while the setting remains as picturesque as ever, the overall experience left much to be desired. The food, though edible, lacked any real flair or care. Each dish felt uninspired, as if it had been prepared without passion or attention to detail. For a restaurant with such potential, the culinary offerings were surprisingly forgettable. The service was adequate but nothing more. Our waiter was pleasant and polite, but there was nothing exceptional about the experience. It felt transactional rather than welcoming, which was a letdown given the restaurant’s reputation and ambiance. While Martinez still boasts a beautiful location and views, it’s clear that the heart of the dining experience—the food and service—has room for significant improvement. We hope to see a renewed focus on quality and creativity in the future, as the potential is certainly there.
