"Teta Nahla is a Jordanian-Palestinian restaurant in Uptown Oakland from the owner of Shawarmaji. Teta Nahla has taken over the Shawarmaji space while Shawarmaji has moved across the street. There’s a tight menu of small and big plates with mansaf, fattoush salad, and mujadara. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

"Chef Mohammad Abutaha’s new Oakland restaurant, Teta Nahla, opened Monday, October 14, replacing his original restaurant Shawarmaji on Franklin Street, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Expect a menu with culinary influences from both Jordan and the Palestinian city of Yaffa, with nourishing stews, mansaf, and more of what Abutaha calls “Arab soul food.”" - Justine Jones

I love Shawarmaji, so I knew I had to try this spot, and wow! That. Was. Delicious. I got the mujadara and I can honestly say that I feel as though it healed me. It tastes how a warm hug feels... On top of that, their hot sauce is incredible! 5 stars isn't enough. Can't wait to go back!

Had the mujadara (basmati rice and lentils cooked with onions and spices, topped with burnt onions and almonds, served with farmer's salad and yogurt). Delicious and filling! Be sure and ask for the hot sauce.

Teta Nahla’s food is incredible! The mansaf plate was perfectly cooked; tender lamb, rich jameed sauce, and fragrant rice, truly authentic and delicious. The rumanniyah plate had an amazing balance of tangy and savory flavors. Fantastic service and a warm atmosphere make it a must visit!

I'm so happy this place is near me. The mujadara is so delicious. I never had it before I found this place and now it's one of my go-to lunches. The salad that comes with it is wonderful as well. Their hummus is also great.

Came for lunch with a couple people, and everything we had was delicious. Love Shawarmaji and so happy they’re testing out this homestyle menu in their former space while the main menu moved across the street to their new location. Hope it stays! Best mujaddara I’ve had in a long time, tip for the vegetarians looking for a heart meal.

I’ve been wanting to try Teta Nahla since it opened and we finally got the chance tonight. My husband got the Mansaf and I got the Molokhieh. I’ve never had molokhieh before but I truly loved it and can tell it’s a dish I will be craving (it’s a bit slimy like okra with a pleasant mild flavor, which I love). I saw another review mentioning their expectation of shawarma - this is not a shawarma restaurant and I’m glad the dishes are unique from other restaurants in the area. The mansaf was also delicious and our meals were served with homemade pickles and fresh vegetables. The staff were very kind as well - please give this restaurant a try!

Google
Randomly came here expecting Shawarmaiji and finding out it had changed to a Jordanian restaurant. Said I'd try it out. I was really underwhelmed with my chicken dish which consisted of a plate of sticky rice with almonds, a tiny dried-out chicken thigh and a bowl of soup/dressing which had an unappealing slimy consistency to it. The price to quality/value ratio seemed way off to me. The staff were really nice.

We got lamb, mujadara, fattoush salad, lentil and eggplant, hummus, and pickled veggies. Everything was flavorful and fresh. Grateful for this new spot in Oakland!

Yelp
I recently tried Teta Nahla with a group of friends and had a great time. I'm a long time fan of Shawarmaji and in case folks didn't know, it's run by the same owner! The restaurant is located where Shawarmaji used to be located. It's a smaller space, so I'd so say it's a more cozy vibe. On to the food! We tried a few different dishes including the chicken, lamb shank, lentils, beets, and hummus. My personal favorite was the lamb shank. It had a rich flavor and was well seasoned. The hummus was also well balanced and served alongside some pillowy and tasty pita. I also enjoyed both the lentil and beet dishes that we ordered, but thought the chicken was so so. Overall I really enjoyed the food and would definitely bring folks back here. The service was excellent with the owner coming out and explaining the dishes to us and even bringing extra bread. Overall this was a 10/10 experience. Definitely check them out and help support a new local business!

Yelp
Delicious food at an amazingly good value. The menu is small but it had perfect things for all of us-- vegans and meat eaters alike. We also loved the ambiance and the kind and swift service. Tea flavored with sage and oregano is served with every dish along with a side salad and yogurt. Everything super fresh and meat eaters report their food was flavorful and well seasoned.

Yelp
Ambience would be equally good for a casual date or a nice lunch catching up with an old friend. The food is wonderful, best to share a couple dishes family-style. Complimentary tea was a nice touch. Cozy and homey but elevated, with unique flavors!

Yelp
Teta Nahla is a hidden gem that manages to feel both homey and effortlessly cool. The vibrant Middle Eastern flavors shine in every dish-- and they make the most delicious authentic Mansaf. It's one of those places that feels like a family kitchen where everything is made with genuine care. If you're looking for an authentic and delicious escape in Oakland, this is the place to go.

Yelp
Some of the best arabic food and nice ambience. We got the mansaf, mloukhieh and rummaniyeh and will definitely try the other items as well.

Yelp
Wowowow this place is phenomenal!! We needed a place like this for sure! The restaurant is very clean, the ambiance is very casual with great Arabic music. I got the mansef, the taste is incredible. The lamb shank fell off the bone perfectly cooked. The yogurt soup (jmeed) tastes just like back home because he gets everything imported from Jordan. It was so delicious I could not stop eating! The portion was big, and perfect for one person who is really hungry. Also got the farmers salad which was sooo refreshing and delicious! Very light and super flavorful, everything was cut perfectly for a little bite of everything at once. Will definitely be back as often as I can to try the other stuff and get that back at home feeling. Service 10/10 Vibes 10/10 Food 1000/10

Yelp
The food was great. The food was tasty, just like my mom used to make it. Service excellent. Can't wait to go back and try another meal.

Yelp
The best home cooked Middle Eastern food! This team does so well with all their creations.
