The Best New State Fair Foods for 2024 | Eater Dallas

"This stand riffs on a quattro formaggi by using a U.S.-adapted 00 flour for a bubbled yet crisp crust that holds up in fair-oven conditions. The pie is brushed with garlic-infused olive oil and loaded with seven cheeses plus dollops of a ricotta/mascarpone mix and cracked black pepper; customers seeking more bite can order an El Diablo option with red pepper flakes to lift the sharper cheeses and add heat to the rich, cheesy profile." - Courtney E. Google
First time customer and can't wait to go back! I had the Oh My Cheesus pizza and I loved it. The crust was so light and the cheeses definitely tasted high quality. I also really appreciate the size of the pizza so it's easy to share with. Place was nice and clean and the staff was very friendly and welcoming, especially the cashier. i highly recommend for everyone to try it out.

Google
Hands down some of the most delicious pizza I have had in eons!! The crispy crust! The 8 different cheeses!! The smoked meat! The service we got from the amazing cashier named Bianca was out of this world. After we arrived the place got packed and thankfully we were able to get our huge pizza and enjoy it! Highly recommend. Go early. Say hi to the cashier for me!

Google
This pie is delicious and it is one of the best if not the Best Pizza I’ve had in the DFW area. The crust is light, crispy and crunchy with the perfect balance of sauce to cheese ratio! Outstanding fresh toppings made in house!

Google
Went surfing today for a new pizza adventure in the DFW area and I believe I’ve found a gem in the making. Stef, the owner, pours genuine love into his craft — and it shows. Whether you're craving a fresh, flavorful pie or just in the mood for a solid salad, this spot delivers. The ingredients are top-notch and full of quality, which is a must when you're chasing that perfect pizza fix. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and stop by.

When we walked in we were immediately greeted by the owner, who then took time to explain their pizza style, and ingredients they use. We ordered the “El Presidente” with Cup and Char pepperoni, and it was phenomenal! The cheese blend tastes fresh and has the great flavors you only can get from quality ingredients. From the owners, to the food, to the atmosphere, everything here is a 10/10!

Google
So excited these guys are in Plano now!!! Stopped in for lunch yesterday and as always, they did not disappoint! We saw a post about the super secret off menu garlic bread and it was terrific. Made from scratch bread with fresh garlic, olive oil, spices and cheese served with their red sauce - I hope it becomes a regular menu item! For our pizza (they just have 18 inch, but you can order a slice if you want - not us, we want leftovers!) , we ordered one with Pork Belly (house smoked and fantastic), pepperoni cups (so crisp), jalapeno and onion. Crust was crispy and so flavorful! The pizza overall was just amazing, just as we expected. Friendly owners who care about your satisfaction is just icing on the cake. Now, in the interest of full disclosure, this is not pizza at cheap prices - it's pricy by some standards, but you absolutely get what you pay for. It's worth every penny and then some!! Can't wait to go back!!

Google
I just love this place. Real owners who are integrally part of the entire process, dedication to their local community, and the food is awesome. I loved the cup and char pizza complimented by a near perfect crust. They also have real sugar sodas versus the gross machines that mega conglomerate soda companies force down small businesses. Buy local!

Google
The Ladies at Texapolitan Pizza know how to make some delicious Pies and it looks like a Fanbase is forming. My Wife and I ordered a half Sausage and Basil and half Pepperoni and Garlic pizza with Dollops of Ricotta. When I got it home we were disappointed to find that the Garlic and Basil were missing. Regardless, we found the Pizza to be absolutely delightful. Their Pizzas are a little bit pricey but the portions are absolutely huge and the quality shows a true level of detail. I look forward to my Second Visit.

Yelp
I dont like pizza. Very rarely do I eat it. I was pretty surprised by this place. The cheese just tastes different. Really well made. I was impressed

Yelp
I'm so happy we have a neighborhood pizza place that understands what it means to run a great restaurant. Great food, good atmosphere and such friendly and kind service from all! I've ordered multiple times and went with friends last evening. Their dough reminds me of the bread I ate in Avellino Italy, when I was stationed there in the 1980's (and have been back a few times since). The crust on their pizza is perfect! The pizza is wonderful. I've tried two types and enjoyed both. I grew up in the Catskill mountains of NY and my friend's parents owned what is still talked about as the best pizza in NY at the time. This pie is so close to that. If you enjoy thin crusted pizza, you must try this! Go early and eat in. The crunch is wonderful. Also, very good Cesar dressing for the salad and that tiramisu was absolutely fantastic--light, creamy, perfectly balanced. A real standout that capped the meal in delicious style. Highly recommend it! Our new pizza place!

Yelp
Well besides being the thinnest and crispiest pizza I have ever had, learned a lot about their unique method to get the crust like that. It is a 3 day process to make the dough. When they run out, they have to put sign on their door " out of dough". We were there on Saturday nite and they ran out before closing time. They are serious about serving only the BEST! You can't even guess how good it is. Also the 3 of us got the tiramisu. WOW the real deal. Loved it!! Run don't walk and be early so you can share the joy in this amazing pizza and dessert. Worth every penny. Enjoy the explosion in your mouth of the best pizza in TEXAS ! I am a Texan so I know what is out there and this rings circles around others that claim to be the best. THIS IS WHERE YOU GO TO GET THE BEST.

Yelp
This is good. It is def charred and crispy well done. The bitterness for me is amazing with Caesar dressing. Outstanding!

Yelp
Due to the great Yelp reviews we decided to give this local independent restaurant a try. We decided to eat in . Our server was really helpful. They make two kinds of cheese pizza. One has a red sauce. The other is a cheese base sauce with many different kinds of cheeses. That was the one we chose and I would recommend that one . The pizza dough crust was everything they had promised. We used to like the restaurant Dough that closed . The pizza is crisp on the bottom but then tender and absolutely delicious on top. It is a build your own pizza. The vegetable toppings are all two dollars and the meats are five dollars each. We chose the pork which is crumble not big chunks. It was very delicious. Then we added basil , fresh garlic, black, olives, and fresh mushrooms. All the pizzas are 18 inches. We ate half and took half home for the next day. They said to heat it up put it at 420° for five minutes. It was perfect. We also had a Caesar salad. Lettuce was fresh and the house made Caesar dressing was delicious. My husband could taste the anchovies. The salad enough for two people was $10. Yes it was expensive. Yes, it was worth it. The hand tossed dough is exceptional . We did learn it's BYOB. So next time we will save on soft drinks. I think next time instead of ordering so many different toppings we will stick with one meat and 2 two orders of double vegetables so you get more of them. We will definitely be back. The restaurant inside was very clean. Lots of folks were coming for takeout. You really need to read all about their dough and their cheeses to see this is not a chain restaurant. Quality ingredients. I used to give Dough five stars. The ambience was nicer at Dough. Was sad to see it close . When it started opening only in the evenings for me, that was not my ideal time. I love to go on Sundays at lunch. Now I will pick up pizza on Saturday night and then we can have leftovers on Sunday.

Yelp
First time ordering and trying out Texapolitan Pizza. Loved the oven brick oven crust on the pizza. I liked the pizza but wish there was more cheese since we ordered cheese pizza. Would love option of adding green or black olives. I loved the mini cannoli's and the tiramisu.

Yelp
Popped in on a chill Saturday afternoon, ordered the pepperoni, and basically had a full-blown pizza awakening. Crispy old-school pepperonis, melty cheese, and that crust? Straight fire. Like, actual wood-fired perfection. East Coast vibes in the middle of DFW? Didn't see that coming. Staff? 10/10. Friendly, fast, and just cool people. No one was trying too hard, they were just genuinely awesome. Didn't try the tiramisu, but it's officially on my hit list for next time. And yes, there will be a next time. Probably soon. Possibly tomorrow. Texapolitan isn't just good, it's "text your friends about it mid-bite" good.

Yelp
We ordered and pepperoni, mushroom, and sausage pizza. The staff is super friendly and attentive. We ordered to go but the restaurant was wide open and clean. The pizza could use a bit more sauce but the overall flavor was great.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious crust! Tangy flavorful tomato sauce. Cooked well. Definitely not enough cheese for me. Lack of cheese made the whole experience dry and a little disappointing for our first visit.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing pizza in the area! My fiance and I are huge fans of NY style pizza and Texapolitan delivers on every aspect. We will be back! We visited on Friday for dinner and ordered a whole pie (18 inches) online before going in person to pick it up. Once we arrived, our pizza was fresh and ready after a few minutes, plus the owners were super friendly! The pizza itself was cooked perfectly and the crust was light & crisp with a bit of chew. On our pizza, we got smoked pork belly, pepperoni, and red onion with a hot honey drizzle, and all the toppings were delicious though the hot honey flavor didn't come through as much. One note I do want to add with regards to online ordering: any dips or drizzles you want to add are in an entirely separate section of the online menu (separate from the pizzas)! We thought they would be under the list of toppings when you select a pizza, but we didn't see them there so we just added the drizzle we wanted in the notes. They ended up giving us the drizzle on the house which was very nice, but now we know!

Yelp
The crust was the star. The website told of all the care and special ingredients to make a special dough. Ordered two 18" pizza based on the website guidance one "feeds 2 to 3 people". 4 of us barely finished one. The toppings were a little sparse for the added cost to the base pizza. Now that we understand the drill, will be back.

Yelp
We were on our way to Mana's Pizza for lunch today when I saw this establishment on the right. PB was jonesing for pizza today, so we decided to try it. We decided on 18"(that's the only size they have and you can get by the slice too)1/2 Pepperoni/sausage and 1/2 mushrooms/basil/pepperochinis/jalapeno/red onions and 2 drinks plus dipping sauce(Melinda's and Honey). Our pizza came out pretty quickly and we were pleasantly surprised that the pizza was so delicious! We had 4 slices each and it was perfect! We liked the fact that drinks weren't of national brand like Coke, but made with real pure cane sugar. This establishment is owned by husband/wife team from NY and husband is a USMC veteran(Semper FI). She told us they've been here since April and we wished we came by sooner. She told us that they will close this coming Saturday until at the end of October, bc they will be at Texas State Fair, so if you want to try this place go before 9/20 and after end of October. We will definitely return to try more items after they're done with Texas State Fair.

So excited these guys are in Plano now!!! Stopped in for lunch yesterday and as with our previous experiences from the former Van Alstyne location, they did not disappoint! We saw a post on Facebook about the super secret off menu garlic bread and it was terrific! Yelp
I ordered The Plano Cheese with pepperoni and sausage for delivery. The crust was thin and crispy. It was 'well done' as they say and I do like my pizza cooked this way. The base crust, cheese, sauce, etc. is great and would be really good as just a cheese pizza. The pepperoni was cupped and crispy on the edges, and the sausage was finely ground which is the way I always prefer. (I hate big nasty chunks of meat on a pizza.) The only slight disapointment I had was I was expecting a greater amount of toppings. The pictures on their website show them loaded with toppings. The amout of toppings on mine was fair and adquate, but not loaded like the pictures of pizza they display on their website. I recommend you try it out if you like 'well done' pizzas!

Yelp
The dough really is outstanding! My boyfriend is a snob when it comes to these things and he was genuinely impressed. It can seem pricey, but we honestly ate off of our pie for 3 full meals and we will try their different offerings again when we can.
google avatar

Yelp
So far, this has been the best pizza crust I've found while trying to find a style of pizza similar to East Coast pizza. I tried the white pizza and it was delicious, had to eat every bite of that crust. Not a down point, but I was put off a little at first by the odor of the cheese. It was very pungent, I think from the provolone in their blend? But the flavor was delicious. I think mine might have been missing the ricotta? I saw dollops of it in the pictures, but mine didn't have that so I dunno if they don't do ricotta if you get the pizza to go or if it's just blended into the sauce? I want to get the plain cheese with pepperoni next time to try! I do wish they had a smaller pie option like an 8' or 14'. If you are just two people the 18' is really big. I don't mind leftovers and they were honestly delicious, but with how pricey the pie is, it would be nice to be able to get a $15 smaller pie for 2 people. If you don't have a group of at least 3-4 hungry folks, I'd suggest maybe just getting a slice or two. It is nice that they offer slices. Overall, highly recommend this quality pizza!

Yelp
This pizza was really really amazing and the people were nice and it was awesome inside and the ambience was tuff and it had great service and it was worth the 150 dollars for 4 pizzas

Jessica M.

Yelp
The food is very good! The wings are expensive...but they were very large. The only down side- they use the Slice app that says when it's time to pick the food up- but when I got there I still had to wait about another 15 minutes. The app and the restaurant were not matching.

Travis M.

Yelp
the best pizza I've ever had. a little expensive but worth all the money. the days are weird but certainly worth it. if you love pizza you won't regret it. please don't tell too many people, however the owner and staff make you want to share. where's Dave "one bite"? he's miss out!

Yelp
Customer Service: Justin, was incredibly warm and welcoming. You could tell his kindness wasn't just for show--it's just who he is. He made us feel like regulars even on our first visit. Food Quality: The pizza was out-of-this-world good. Crispy, flavorful crust, fresh ingredients, and the perfect balance of toppings. I truly mean it when I say it's the best pizza I've ever had. The space feels thoughtful, neighborhood gem kind of charm Speed/Timing: Our order came out quickly and piping hot, fresh from the oven. No delays

Yelp
Great taste, good size , wish it was more affordable. We ordered out. Glad to have them in the area
google avatar

Yelp
Man this pizza joint reminds me of my youth. Simple pizza menu, slices at lunch and a soda machine! If they had a Pac Man Machine I'd feel like a teenager again! The best part though is the pizza is good, I love the cupped pepperoni.

Yelp
What a great Cheese pie! El Presidente! By far best in Plano! Great undercarriage, good cheese and sauce! Hope Dave Portnoy reviews this place! They even have a painting of ole pres himself hanging up!

Andy F.

Yelp
Great pizza and house made sausage was an amazing topping. A good atmosphere and the owners were super nice.

Yelp
Saw this restaurant on Yelp, and it looked good, more like homemade, so we decided to try it, and we were blown away! Then we found out they source many of their ingredients from Italy. they actually go way above and beyond to get the healthiest ingredients they possibly can. They are family owned and their quality shows how much they really LOVE what they're doing. Keep up the great work Y'all!!

Lexy M.

Yelp
I have officially found my favorite pizza spot I got a Plano cheese pizza with pepperoni, banana peppers and balsamic on the top, so freaking good! When you taste the pizza, you can that everything is fresh unlike other pizza spots. Apparently, there are only five ingredients in their dough and they do a three day ferment process! The pepperoni was crispy just like I liked and it had the right amount of banana peppers. The restaurant is super clean and comfortable inside. I love that they have a booth or a high top option. I also tried the cannolis which were AMAZING because they fill them in restaurant and they are not pre-filled!

Tiffany R.

Yelp
So many good things to say about this place. He managed somehow to get a perfect crispy crunch but also having a chewy dough. The owners were so kind and you can see how much care and love they put into this place. You HAVE to give it a try.

Mark S.

Yelp
Got pizza two days in a row for lunch from here because it is so dang good. The crust is amazing, and the ingredients are fresh. Can't wait to try more off the menu.
google avatar

Deeptor W.

Yelp
delicious pizza, and very friendly staff here. The environment and ambience is nice too and large and unique drinks as well.
google avatar

Robb G.

Yelp
Great pizza! Thin chewy crust and fast. There aren't many pizzas that I eat the pizza bones, but this is one of them. Very nice restaurant interior with plenty of seating. Family friendly. Great addition to Plano.

Renee M.

Yelp
Texapolitan Pizza is delicious This is an incredibly crispy crust that is both light and airy with a nice crunch! The cheese and toppings are very high quality! Surprisingly light on our stomachs! Restaurant is clean and service is great. Hands down the most deliciously unique pizza in Plano and the DFW area by Far! Definitely give them a try. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Brandon R.

Yelp
The pizza is very good and pretty close to NY style but gets a bit doughy near the crust. The crust is light and very airy. If you like a crispier crust and undercarriage ask them to cook it a little bit more. I would've preferred it stay in the oven a couple more minutes. Great ingredients and taste overall.

Lyann T.

Yelp
I've been dying to try Texapolitan Pizza and I must say AMAZING!!! I added the hot honey and top and I couldn't put my slice down!! Will be going back!!

Alexis L.

Yelp
Yolanda and John provided excellent friendly service! The pizza was delicious and their cannolis are FANTASTIC!
google avatar

Debbie S.

Yelp
Flavor bomb Insanely flavorful pizza. The cheese, the pepperoni, the crisp crust, and the fresh, carefully sourced ingredients make all the difference. Thank you for caring about my pallet. I'm also very picky about Caesar salads because I make them myself, and yours was spot on! Homemade salad dressing and fresh in house made croutons made all the difference. I'll be back to try the desserts!

Phally S.

Yelp
This pizza was the best I ever ate and there food The service was a amazing all the people there was nice and friendly

Kenneth B.

Yelp
Very clean, and staff immediately welcomed us. When we said it was our first time there, Yolanda happily provided recommendations. Trust me...the crust is awesome. We had the pepperoni and it was great, but already planning a return visit to sample some of the other great toppings they offer. We love going to a locally owned place - there's just something special about talking directly with the owners. This place is a gem - check it out!

Jack J.

Yelp
Awesome pizza!! And great service!! The pizza crust is amazing and the cup & char pepperoni is absolutely delicious!!

Thomas A.

Yelp
Best pizza in the area by a wide margin. Great crust, fresh ingredients. We will definitely be back.

Marta L.

Yelp
Have gotten pizza to go, several times. They don't skimp on toppings, which are really good. The crust is wonderful!

Jay L.

Yelp
I'm a crispy, cracker crust kind of guy but the foldable, chewy crust here was fantastic!! Plus loved the sauce!

David E.

Yelp
Dropped by for a quick bite for lunch. Pepperoni Pizza by the slice was amazing. Great value for the money and just solid fantastic pizza. Surprising light while still filling. I strongly recommend dropping by this easy spot for lunch. Full pizza for family dinner would be amazing as well with more topping options to explore. Parker and Custer next door to Olive Burger.

Greg L.

Yelp
This is by far the best pizza I have ever had. At 72 years old that is saying something. I still don't understand how it is the best I've ever had and every time I have it it gets better. This is the art of pizza perfected. Thin crispy crust with just the right amount of char. Toppings and cheeses are incredible. The owners are great people! Give it a try. This will become your favorite.

Kristin C.

Yelp
We found Texapolitan while searching for a new pizza place. Ordered half a pepperoni and half with pork belly, bacon and mushrooms, and it did not disappoint! The crust was amazing and the toppings were fresh. We'll definitely be returning in the future!

Brian B.

Yelp
Great Pizza - fast slices - cannoli dessert is awesome and tasty pizza crust -- definitely recommend anyone that loves pizza to come by asap
