The Best Restaurants in Missouri City, Texas | Eater Houston

"With dozens of Texas’ most creative beers on tap, including the Scuba Squeeze IPA, the Oktoberfest Festbier, and the Mosaic Pils Lager, the only German restaurant in Missouri City doesn’t disappoint. Slice through a jalapeno cheddar wurst bursting with juices, or bite into a mushroom gravy-smothered pork schnitzel that’s as large as the plate it comes on. Co-owner Laura Abraham borrows her grandmother’s recipes for braised red cabbage and German potato salad. And find what might be the best burger in town – a blend of chuck, brisket, and short rib topped with grilled onions and served on a Slow Dough challah bun." - Rebecca Deurlein

I had a great experience at Texas Biergarten! The staff was absolutely lovely, warm, welcoming, and attentive from start to finish. The food was a delicious mix of southern comfort and German classics, hearty and flavorful just like you’d hope. On top of that, I met some really cool people while I was there, including the owner Tom, who was friendly and made the atmosphere feel even more inviting. Definitely a place worth visiting if you’re looking for good food, good vibes, and good company.

I wanted some good German food. The Texas Biergarten has it. The hostess was kind and promptly seated us. Our waitress was fantastic. The food was excellent! I tried a Ruben sandwich called forbidden love that also has a schnitzel inside. It was heavenly!

Stopped for lunch on a rainy day. We were given a booth in a warm spot and soon greeted by our server. Soon I was enjoying a craft beer while my wife had a Margie for National Margarita Day. She said it was good. . We started with the schnitzelized pickles and jalapenos. That is, breaded and fried. They were excellent. . We both had pork schnitzel sandwiches with fries. The fries were very unusual, like a quarter potato, cooked perfectly until the center was fluffy. . The sandwich was fine. The cutlet was thicker than expected, cooked very well but too lightly seasoned. It came with a forgettable slice of cheese and a sturdy brioche bun. It is served with a pint of mushroom gravy which added much need moisture and flavor. . Overall, it was a good experience on a cold rainy day.

Google
I am an almost regular customer here. I usually order the salmon or the medium steak . I was so hungry, but the steak was so flavorless, fried on the outside and dull on the inside. Also the menu said cooked in butter but it was cooked in oil, which makes a lot of difference if anyone knows what I am talking about. The deviled eggs and the dill pickles were awesome as usual. Won’t try meat from here anymore. But the bar is vibrant and chill😍

Google
This was a nice place to eat that had several options on the menu. I got the pork schnitzel and would definitely recommend it. Portion sizes were larger and I wasn't able to finish my food and took leftovers home. Staff was friendly and was happy to answer questions I had on the menu.

Google
Second time visiting tonight after a few years. I got the Kaizen Japanese Rice Lager. Frosted Tips Blonde is also good. Soft pretzel was great! Got the chicken fried chicken to eat. Very good and portioned well! Other people I was with got the pork schnitzel, but they weren’t as impressed. Service was very good. Overall I would recommend this place for the chicken fried chicken. Would come back!

Google
This was our first visit, but far from the last. It is so nice to go to a restaurant where the staff actually cares about the customer. The waitress met us at the door and seated us, and she was so happy she danced all the way to the table. She was attentive and took great care of us, but not in a way that indicated she was just trying to get a bigger tip. The atmosphere is fun, with great country music, several TVs, and beer tap handles on the walls. There is also a selection of board games on hand. Now for the reason we all go out to eat, the food. They have some specials which aren't on the menu every day, such as chili and gumbo. We got a cup of gumbo and really enjoyed it. It's made with chicken and sausage, and served with rice and crackers. It was really good. My wife got the chicken fried steak and gravy with mashed potatoes, and I got the pork schnitzel and gravy with mashed potatoes. She said it was the best CFS she had had in years, and I don't ever remember a schnitzel this good in the greater Houston area. These were the lunch portions. We are both excited to head back soon for more great food and music.

Google
This was a good place and I'd happily recommend this to others. Definitely washed through American cuisine, but still definitely "in the family" and definitely pretty good. Would recommend.

Yelp
Came here for a chill night after work and that's exactly what it was. Service was nice, our waitress was so sweet, the place wasn't too crowded or hectic either. We tried deviled eggs and I got the burger - they weren't bad, but not something that would make me come back. Wouldn't be opposed to trying other things if we were to be in the area again as the overall experience was good

Yelp
Love their chicken fried steak, their burgers and love their bread pudding, my favorite dessert.
google avatar

Sophia G.

Yelp
The food is really good here but I'm not sure why the place hasn't had as much business. I always recommend the honey sliders as an app but sometimes i get it as a meal with a side of fries. The chicken fried steak and San Saba Salad are equally as delicious. The service though isn't bad but kind of average but you don't have to wait too long for your food.

Yelp
I didn't know what to expect before visiting this place, but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the German-inspired eats here! I ordered the smoked bratwurst plate, bacon deviled eggs, and also tried the Pork Schnitzel and Chicken fried chicken. The Bratwurst sausages were flavorful and juicy, and I really enjoyed eating the sausages with sauerkraut and dill mustard sauce. The portions for the pork schnitzel and chicken fried chicken were huge as well. They also have German-inspired beers imported from Fredericksburg! Definitely a nice atmosphere for relaxing with some good food and drinks. The only menu item I didn't like was the pickled red cabbage (it tasted weirdly kinda sweet).

Iz Y.

Yelp
Went there for brunch this time. The food and service were great. I like their chicken waffles. Their week day lunch special is pretty good price too and they have happy hour drinks which is pretty cool. I recommend this place.

Yelp
The food was very good, a lot of options for everyone's individual tastes and very very good beer!! The service itself was wonderful with very attentive waiters and very friendly staff, overall it was a great experience.

Yelp
Had a great dinner here with my husband. The atmosphere was nice, service was incredible & food was delicious. Love how they have lady items in their restroom

Yelp
Excellent food, friendly service and fantastic atmosphere. Highly recommended for families, groups and couples.

Yelp
We have been coming here for years - a great, casual place to come for lunch, dinner, brunch, happy hour, or sports. The food is really good and reasonable. Great Reuben's, bratwurst, burgers and their huge schnitzel is outstanding. 3 styles of fries, sauerkraut, red cabbage, and so much more. Even their pancakes are great with crisp bacon for weekend brunch. A nice place to try new beers. Service is always friendly and great. We always have a wonderful time here with family and friends.

Yelp
My mom and I had just gotten a fantastic mani pedi at Maui nails and walked next door to try this place for a late lunch/early dinner (is that called "linner"?!). There were only a few other diners since it was too late for lunch but too early for dinner. Our waitress was friendly and helpful. I came in looking for a burger but when I saw the chicken fried steak on the menu, I had to try it. I haven't had a good one in years (since I live in CT) and I was quite hungry. The waitress assured us it was fantastic, so that's what I ordered. I'm in Texas, so of course it was MASSIVE and covered most of the plate. I was slightly disappointed when I saw it because the batter appeared to be made with breadcrumbs- like the kind of batter you'd see on fried catfish or something. But it was actually really good. The country gravy was fantastic with lots of pepper and the mashed potatoes were very flavorful. The green beans had a bit of a sear on them and were flavorful as well. I wanted to take home half of it so I'd have it for lunch the next day, but once I started in on it, I couldn't stop eating it. I'm embarrassed to say that I finished it! Our waitress said not many people eat the whole thing so when she saw that I had, she said "wow- respect!" It was really good. And did I mention I was really hungry?! My mom's Reuben was good- stuffed with lots of meat and melted cheese. She said it was a bit dry, but good. Her fries were fantastic- they were strangely cut and thick. Unique and very tasty! This place touts excellent sausage and brats- maybe I'll try that next time.

Yelp
I've had this place bookmarked for awhile now. It is located in a shopping strip near the Missouri City/Sugarland border. Plenty of parking. I met up with some friends who live close by. We enjoyed a few drinks outside before heading inside when our whole party arrived. Customer service was amazing from start to finish. Shannon took great care of us and gave great suggestions as well since I'm always indecisive. They have a pretty nice amount of beers on draft which are also neatly categorized. I knew I was in for a heavy meal so I went with a cold sour beer to cut through the richness of the food. My friends got a variety of mixed drinks and they loved them. We had the bar set low thinking beer is their thing, but they proved us wrong. I came in thinking I wanted a German meal, but scanned the room and saw a lot of people eating a burger or sandwich of some sort. My focus turned to that side of the menu and Shannon suggested the Big Shawn Sausage Burger. It was a cheeseburger cooked to order with a link of sausage on it. I went with the jalapeño cheddarwurst. This burger was fantastic! One of the better ones I've had in awhile. The burger was cooked to perfection and seasoned well. I thought the addition of sausage was odd at first, but after that first bite, I was hooked. It added another depth of flavor. I got sidewinder fries to go with it. These fries were also crazy good. They have about 5 fry options so I had a feeling they take pride in their fries. Overall, I'm mad I didn't come here sooner because this place is so good. I will definitely be back sooner rather than later!

Yelp
I have been eating here for several years. The food is delicious, although I usually get the same thing every time. Pork schnitzel with gravy, stewed red cabbage and cucumber dill salad. Service is good and friendly. They usually have sports games on the tvs. Food is great and very consistent.

Robert M.

Yelp
Nice place with good sports viewing! My wife likes to be outside on the patio. Good beer selection.

Joyce B.

Yelp
I have tried many German restaurants. This place is the best in town. The staff is friendly and give you great service.

Yelp
I've eaten here a few times now. I almost exclusively sit at the bar. Here are some of things I like, some of things that are 'aight,' and some that aren't. Welcome to my TedTalk. PROs: they have great rotation on their beer taps. A lot of selection outside of what you'd normally get at other bars in the area. The cucumber side salad is a must try if you're a dill pickle lover like myself. The staff has generally been welcoming. The fried chicken schnitz sando is delicious. They play sports at the bar, which is one of the reasons I like me to come here. Aight: most of their food is fry heavy. I wish there were some, I don't want to say healthy per say, just more non-heavy food? It's very comfort forward. I've come here and gotten sides only before. Not cool: twice I've ordered something off the menu, and they've brought me something else. It's always been a side with my entree. But the lackadaisical responses, "oh, I guess we're out" set me off. Wouldn't you instead ask me if I wanted something else instead? Example, last time I ordered crinkle cut fries. They brought me the other fries. I didn't want them. Given the chance I would have ordered the tots over them. I don't eat fried food but maybe once a week. When I do, I want what I want. To me it's professional courtesy. At least tell me. Don't bring me something similar and expect me to be ok with it. Or tell me you're out and ask me what I want There are a lot of ways to go about it, but just bringing me something and expecting me to want it isn't cool. Rant over. All that said, I will go back. I have enjoyed what I've eaten and the atmosphere is family friendly.

Yelp
I love burgers! I LOVE this place for burgers! My best friend from elementary and junior high and I had a burger here. We were both so happy during the meal, and sated. Then i was babysitting my 13 y.o. nephew. He and I ordered the double bacon burger. OMG. SO GOOD. My nephew is famished all the time, on his growth spurt. He savored it just as much as I did. We had to get to go because he had so much homework. TXB packs the food awesomely! Perfect amount of great lettuce tomato onion and fresh pickle. I swooned extra. Not an afterthought of sad measly burger fixings. And the burger --two full sized patties. The bacon had enough heft to also not come across as an afterthought. When my brother arrived back from his dinner date with his wife, apparently he asked his son about our burgers. --My brother was there the very next day, early-ish lunch, sending us a photo of his double bacon burger. Know you can request rare and medium rare for your burgers here! That's how confident and aware they are of their red meat being good. Y'all gotta come here. The fries are so amazing too! Cut and fried kinda like the Brits do. It has heft as well, yet a satisfying crispness and somehow fluff-to-the-heft texture. My nephew knew he loved the fries here. Now he and his dad are huge fans of their burger too. Like my childhood best friend and I. Service was kind and personable too as I waited for the to-go. Also, I think they have evening activities. Various tables were playing some game. This place is full of decent patrons, family friendly, neighborhood vibe, as well as staff who are good people, and real people.

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
This was such a great experience. The atmosphere was very inviting to families and the service was top notch. The food selection was broad enough to satisfy our picky 6 year old. She had the chicken strips and we had the sausage plate, hot chicken schnitzel. We decided to get the churros to close out the meal and I'm not kidding when I tell you that it was the most amazing dessert. I'm almost tempted to go back tomorrow just for the churros! All in all it was a great experience and we will certainly be back.

Yelp
My husband and I sat outside on a beautiful fall afternoon. Outside seating consists of a few picnic tables. Food was good. We both enjoyed our lunch. Our waitress was nice and efficient. We will be back when we are in the area.
google avatar

Kristen P.

Yelp
We came here for dinner on Halloween weekend to celebrate a birthday. The food, the service, the atmosphere were all top notch. Of everything we ordered the sausage (on a pretzel bun), and soft pretzel were the crowd favorites, but honestly, everything was delicious. We highly recommend this hidden gem! Already planning to come back.

Yelp
We came on bingo night so it was packed. We did have to wait a little bit but once we got the table in the dining area the bar tender took our drink order and once he came back with the drinks he took our food order. We did get an incorrect beer but they took care of that for us. I ordered the Que nice beer and I did enjoy it, my husband said he liked it more than the one he ordered. We ordered a few appetizers; schnitzeled jalapeños and pickles and soft pretzel. The main dish was chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and Luke fries, we didn't know that Luke fries are just regular crinkle fries. Oh and some buffalo honey wings. We enjoyed all of the food but for us the start of the table were the wings! We did say that we would go back, either get to the bar in time for the bingo to start or just go on a day that doesn't have an event going. Last thing, for ME it was a bit cold but I also get cold easily, just fyi for those that need that info.

Yelp
I have eaten here several times, and it's always been good! The spicy chicken sandwich hit the mark today! Perfectly cooked and fresh and served hot! I appreciate the small family style setting and appreciate the smile and the good food and reasonable prices!

Yelp
My second visit to Texas Biergarten did not disappoint! Finally got to go for dinner and try the schnitzel, it was crisp and tender and just perfect. They always have a great tap beer list too. Love this little hidden gem!!

Cheri C.

Yelp
Food was excellent! I had the Kim Cheese with White Bean Sausage soup and Rosemary bread grilled cheese--delish!! Hubs had the Sausage on a Bun with Millers bratwurst. He enjoyed it! Nice relaxed atmosphere, had board games to play if interested. We will be back!!

madcarjor

Yelp
Great beer selection! I love the pork schnitzel and gravy/sauce. The service is quick and staff is friendly. It's fun, casual and a nice place for a family meal.

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
The food was good I had the grilled salmon with mashed potatoes and dill cucumber salad. The waitress was nice. I'll definitely stop by for more food on my lunch break.
google avatar

Yelp
Very cozy place to enjoy a quick lunch or evening dinner. This was my first visit in over a year, and they are still serving great food. I had a quick lunch this time and had the burger and fries. This was my first time to try "Sidewinder Fries", but they were tasty. Service was friendly and on point. Will return soon for dinner. Many tv's to watch the games, as well as 30+ taps of draft beer. Family friendly atmosphere.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Went there for their brunch buffet. The food was excellent! Some of the more popular items get grabbed up quickly but they refill items constantly. Super friendly service and great environment!
google avatar

Yelp
The quality and service made our experience comfortable. Our server Aaron, was very friendly and attentive. Every food item was delicious. The naked wings were my favorite. The right crispness that doesn't dry out the wings. They made it a point to count our wings to know we were missing one. Honestly, I still haven't counted if we got our full order of 12, but I trust them. Next, the ribeye, great choice! The sides, German potato salad, grilled zucchini and green beans...amazing! The only confusion, sides cost extra when menu didn't indicate it. The tomato bisque was a bit watery, with a nice touch of goldfish crackers. Server was receptive to feedback and took note of the watery soup as they make everything from scratch. Pretty good craft beer selection. Plenty of parking with ample seating area. Will be back and definitely clarifying the extra charges for sides.
google avatar

Abril And James X.

Yelp
Biergarten?? Ummm more like BURNTGARTEN!! We've only been here once and we're not planning on coming back. The service was nothing special but we can't say anything negative about it either. My boyfriend ordered a philly cheesesteak sandwich and the flavor....she was MIA, she was lacking, not there,. For me, I absolutely LOVE pretzels!! And when you read SOOOOFT pretzel...you expect a SOFT pretzel. This pretzel was hard, dark, and neglected. She deserved better and so did we. It's one of these places where it doesn't really deserve a second chance because there's nothing on the menu that would be worth coming back for.

Yelp
After a fantastic Chicken Fried Steak at Mia's Table last Sunday, I'm enticed into looking for more options around town. The query result shows a German restaurant in Missouri City that has patio seating, so we decided to go and learn about this unfamiliar cuisine. The staffs are friendly and helpful. Instead of the comforting CFS that we have all the time, I rather try their top Entree item, Pork Schnitzel. The flawlessly breaded and fried pork cutlet with cream mushroom gravy took me by surprise on my first bite, "this is freaking delicious!" After a few more bites, I experiment by squeezing the grilled lemon on the Schnitzel which I find enhances the flavor. The pleasant surprises continue to deliver. My first time trying the German Potato Salad that's served warm that has a slight sourness and I love it, especially when I get to the parts that have bacon pieces mixed into it. I'm so glad I pick the Stewed Red Cabbage as the second side because it has so many ingredients that go into the seasoning, and I love the subtle sweetness and interesting flavors that come with each bite. I never know how good Stewed Red Cabbage is, it's like the Soul Food of the Deutsch. We also get an extra side of the San Saba Salad, a delightful Hill Country-style Salad, which is where the owners and chef are from. The mixed greens, Granny Smith apples, pecans, fried wonton strips, and blue cheese, work exceptionally well together with the Rosemary Vinaigrette, creating complex flavor and interesting textures. I can taste a hint of ginger that I like very much. The San Saba Salad is seriously tasty and refreshing. I didn't grow up eating cheese at all but I love Blue Cheese, especially when it's eaten with sour Green Apple slices and earthly Pecan pieces in this salad. The Beef Sliders are made with quality ingredients, ) Angus / Brisket blend burgers served with beer onions, and American cheese, on a Slow Dough roll. It's not overly seasoned, so you can adjust the saltiness to your liking. Such a wonderfully delicious German meal that's also great value too! I'm looking forward to coming back and trying so many other menu items, like their CFS, Sausages, Burgers, and Fries. I'm happy to learn that I like German food.
google avatar

Kimi Y.

Yelp
Their food is no joke! We ordered the port schnitzel sandwich, and it's huge and the pork was crispy outside, juicy inside!! They also have sour beer here, not easy to find in the greater Houston! We will definitely come back!
google avatar

Shelly K.

Yelp
One of our family's favorite. Even out of town guests ask to return here. Fantastic beer selection, soft pretzel with beer cheese. The Schnitzel sandwich with mushroom gravy - the corn poblano soup - the Philly cheesesteak. All amazing. Great service, casual, with booths and a long picnic style table in the middle.
google avatar

Jonathan K.

Yelp
Beer and foods are great . Good services ! Have large table to accommodate big group.
google avatar

Diem P.

Yelp
Great selection of beer! There's a variety of beer on tap to meet the various preferences of our party. Great food! Pretzels are so good that you don't need any mustard or cheese to go with it. Great burgers. Fries are golden...thick and perfectly seasoned. And the deviled eggs - so good! One of the gals in our party had the chicken fried steak which she says is one of the best chicken fried steak she's ever had. Great service! Love this local spot with a good vibe.

Mark P.

Yelp
Always great food and an extensive beer selection. Our server was very attentive and helped with our beer selections. Great local options for beer and only place I the area to get a good Reuben and good German food.
google avatar

Emilio H.

Yelp
Always good food always good service when I visit TB. Laid back and easy dining area and the Reuben is the best I've had so far.
google avatar

Patricia G.

Yelp
Great food & courteous service in a pleasant atmosphere. A neighborhood favorite. Love their fries.
google avatar

Max B.

Yelp
One of the best Reuben's I've had and it's one of my favorite sandwiches that I've had multiple places. They had the crispiest tater tots I've ever had. Also an amazing sausage on a bun. They have a great rotating beer and wine selection. They also have ample parking and a very knowledgeable staff. I had a great conversation with the bar tender whose suggestions were on point (sorry, I don't remember your name, but you had locs). I wasn't going to come in, but when I got there I was happy to find out they recently added spirits and cocktails (the old fashioned was a little sweet for my taste, but I'm sure someone else would like it that way). I'm definitely definitely coming in again, but next time it will be with the kids because they also have board games, a kids menu, ice cream snacks, and root beer floats.
google avatar

Tracy D.

Yelp
Easy to find, plenty of parking. There's seating outside as well and plenty of seating inside. The staffs are friendly and there's a menu for wine, beer and food. I'm glad they offer wine instead just all beer. Classic Ruben (4/5) Fried Pork cutlet (5/5) Street lover beer (5/5) Overall I was impressed with the food and love the atmosphere. I can't want to come back.

Warren S.

Yelp
Top notch. Friendly, good service, and excellent food- what's not to like? Reminiscent of the old neighborhood family pub.
google avatar

Christina M.

Yelp
Went with my girlfriend and we had a total blast here. Don't let the suburban vibe away you form coming here. We met and talked with the owner who was super friendly and funny as well. The staff and one bartender in particular were awesome. The one I was talking about knew so many random facts about animals which really made me and my friend smile! We had such a blast and will definitely be back for the good brews and food! I got two beers and a wine during their happy hour and also wings. We will be back to support this local gem!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
Not great. We have been a couple of times and cannot make ourself like this place. Water takes like sewage and their food lacks flavor. Have tried the German meals, burgers, sandwiches, etc. Wont return.
google avatar

Annie H.

Yelp
Great beer menu, great food; kids menu items were thoughtful and the atmosphere is super friendly. I ordered the burger with a lettuce wrap, and seasoned fries, my husband had the Philly cheesesteak. Our server helped us find some beers we'd enjoy based off our taste and even provided sample sips for my indecisive husband. We got there early and had plenty of spots to sit but it filled up quickly, popular spot on Saturday for dinner. Our first time here but we'll be back soon!

Liam M.

Yelp
The service was exceptionally slow. They only had a single server covering the entire restaurant. Because of this my family needed to wait over 20 mins before our drink orders were finally taken. All of this was compounded by seeing the owner drink rather obnoxiously while the server struggled to meet the demand. Would suggest anyone avoid unless you have a lot of time to wait.

Mymomsdead32 P.

Yelp
heard this place was decent from someone who knows the owners i am originally from europe this is just normal food that is just overpriced and beer that is what would you know overpriced even though i could walk to the gas station just over and get the same beer for cheaper not terrible but also nothing to write home about

Chris H.

Yelp
Went there for dinner yesterday and have been a regular customer. We arrived to a three quarters full restaurant with open tables. The hostess told us there was a 15 minutes wait and took my name down on a list a first in line. No problem with the wait as they must have been short staffed. Waited for 15 minutes. While the hostess was cleaning a table, another group of two arrived and were seated directly by a bartending staff in front of us saying take any of the open seats. They were a walk-in like my party of two with no reservations. We then decide to leave as their control over how they seated dinners is terrible. As we left the manager and hostess arrive and tried to persuade us to stay saying this bar tending employee should have not done that but offering no apology for their breach of seating protocol. We were perturbed with the whole incident and just left to dine at a better establishment. They need better training for the bartender staff on how to take care of dinners on a waiting list for a table. Will not be back!

Yelp
Meal fit for a king. I really enjoyed the meal. I usually eat lunch late and I'm happy that I did because I didn't have to eat anything else the rest of the day. The sandwich was delicious and humungous. The fries were potatoie and flavorful. What I couldn't finish, I saved for later.

Pamela B.

Yelp
We love coming here. Always good quality food. Their zucchini and green beans are amazing!
