"Thai 9 serves the titular national cuisine, but is also one of Dayton’s best sushi restaurants. The dining rooms and balcony (open during peak hours) are bustling, but the service is always impeccable. The menu is almost overwhelmingly broad, but the yellow curry with coconut milk, pineapple, onion, potatoes, and red and green peppers is top tier, particularly with fish. For any curry, you can choose from nine spice levels depending on how much heat you can handle (I’m a three, thanks for asking). Whatever you order, get the mango salad topped with cilantro and lime juice as an appetizer for the table. This popular spot doesn’t take reservations, so be sure to be at the door when it opens at 5 p.m., or expect to wait." - David Nilsen

Tried Thai 9 during my visit to Dayton. The overall vibe is great — cozy, lively, and welcoming. Service was top notch — attentive and friendly without being intrusive. Only thing to note: the spice levels run much hotter than expected. As someone who enjoys and tolerates spice (I’m Indian), I asked for a 6/10 and still found it a bit too hot for comfort. So be sure to adjust accordingly if you’re sensitive to heat. Otherwise, a solid experience and worth a visit!

Took a little bit to be seated as I entered through the back entrance. It then took a longer than I expected for a server to acknowledge me and approach the table. The food was good. Up to my foodie expectation. Great drink variety. Awesome Thai tea. * No alternative non dairy options* 😔 service was a little slow and spotty. The team made a very strong come back and redeemed my visit. They did well in the middle of a big rush. Very cozy spaces a little chilly... Bring a jacket. I did enjoy myself. Thank you Thai 9 **great job Marlena**

We always have a wonderful experience when we visit Thai 9. The menu is extensive, so there is something for everyone to enjoy. My brother has a food allergy, but our server guided him to some excellent choices he could enjoy. Both of our meals were beautifully presented and delicious. The cocktails we well crafted. The atmosphere is welcoming and comfortable.

Google
We enjoyed visiting Thai 9 during our stay in Dayton! We ordered the Summer rolls, chicken udon soup, chicken khao soy curry. We all enjoyed our food immensely- so delicious!! The homemade peanut sauce with the summer rolls is the perfect appetizer! The khao soy curry was so flavorful! And my son loves udon so it was a perfect place for mother and son date! Our server was very helpful and attentive! We also loved the space and decor. There is a large indoor seating area, a more private upstairs dining area, and an outdoor patio. Parking is available on the street or in the parking lot behind the building (free from 4 am - 4 pm, $3 for a couple hours in the evening). Wonderful night- we would love to come again when we’re in town!

Google
Went to Thai 9 last night with my boo...DELICIOUS! Thai 9 is my favorite spot when I want something amazingly tasty AND spicy. Not too many places will make it as hot as I like it. (Of course not making it so hot it ruins the dish.) Thai 9 Pepper Garlic Chicken, level 3 (left), and Thai 9 Spicy Beef level 9 (right). SO GOOD!

Google
One of our favorite places to go. However management chose to make a political statement by hanging a large pride flag in the dining area. Our family has suffered from gender confusion and affirming this destructive behavior was not helpful.

Google
I do enjoy Thai 9! I've been going there for years and years....I've never had anything I didn't enjoy! The price is about what you would expect, and the portions are large compared to other restaurants in this price range (generally). I've had many 5 star experiences here and a couple that were probably only a 3.5. Take that into consideration, things tend to be better when they are busy (dinner time). I hope this helps you decide that you should probably try Thai 9! PS: Making a reservation is a smart move but not always necessary!

Google
The Thai dish i ordered was competent. Unfortunately this restaurant tries to do too many things and suffers from the " jack of all trades, master of none" problem with asian restaurants. If I'm going to a Thai restaurant your Thai food had better be amazing. I don't want to hear about your sushi options, that's not what I'm there for. This restaurant would benefit from tightening up their menu and reworking their Thai options so they're the star of the show. But, that's just my opinion.

Yelp
Made reservations and thank god we did. Place was very busy on NYE. Our waitress was awesome, very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing got sushi as an appetizer very fresh and very good. For our main course we had curry chicken and the Thai 9 pepper garlic. Both were delicious. We enjoyed the holiday decoration and historical look of the restaurant. We will definitely be going back.

Yelp
The papaya was perfect but the chicken wings were cold. Their spice level ratings are true to size! I got the pad Thai and it was just slightly too sweet for my taste.

Yelp
We decided to try Thai 9 on a Friday since they seemed to have a lot of seafood options. And they do! The menu is very extensive overall and a bit overwhelming. This is a place I recommend you review the menu on their website in advance to narrow down your choices. It's much bigger inside than it looks...beautiful decor, high ceiling, multiple dining rooms and a really cute little bar area that I would love to experience sometime, other than a packed house busy Friday. The ladies room was very clean and nicely appointed. There's also two-level outdoor seating for fine weather days. We started with Fish Cakes which were really nothing to write home about. Didn't care for the chewy texture and not much flavor...thankfully the amazing cucumber sauce really saved them. Carrot cabbage slaw was fine. I had the Spicy Scallops. They use a 1 to 10 spice scale but they seem to still lean toward the mild side. I got a 6 and asked for extra spice on the side. I was expecting that to be dry Thai spice but I got a little pot of chili oil instead. The scallops were delicious though and I would order again, just making sure to express my high-spice desire more clearly . My husband got the Seafood Hot Pot Soup - what a presentation and sensory delight. I had serious entrée envy when that arrived at the table. He let me have a bit- it was a really generous serving too. Just outstanding! Service was prompt and attentive. When we told the hostess it was our first time, she said that she'd give us their best server, Taylor. And she was just great. Parking is easy in the big lot for $3 which they will validate but you must speak up. Hope to get back here soon.

Yelp
Stepping into this downtown Thai restaurant, you're greeted by a cozy yet authentic atmosphere. The service here is awesome, with staff going out of their way to offer trending recommendations, making every guest feel special. The food is where this place truly shines. Each dish, from the tangy soups and salads to the rich Yello Curry, is a burst of authentic flavors and fresh ingredients. The Pad Thai deserves a special mention for its perfect blend of sweet, sour, and savory, making it a dish you'll crave long after your meal. Innovative takes on traditional dishes add a delightful twist, ensuring there's something new for even the most seasoned Thai cuisine aficionados. We thoroughly enjoyed the Chicken Coconut Milk Soup, Rainbow Roll, Mango Chicken, Yellow Curry along with some Pineapple Poppers and 21's! Thai 9 isn't just about great food; it's about an experience that combines impeccable service with an inviting atmosphere. Highly recommended for anyone seeking authentic and creatively prepared Thai dishes!

Yelp
seems like a popular spot! i could see why it would be busy on the weekends. the building is HUGE! hard to get our servers attention but he was kind. the food was very mediocre. what do you really expect for sushi in ohio but i tried... would highly not recommend the sushi. the pad thai was pretty mediocre as well. not bad, not great. the rangoons were probably my favorite.

Adam G.

Yelp
Got take out from Thai 9 and was rather impressed. We called ahead and the order was ready right when we arrived. The inside is much bigger than I was anticipating, with a separate bar area, sushi bar, and two floors of seating. They also have a pretty large patio in the back for when the weather is nice. There's a parking lot behind the restaurant, that is encouraged to pay by the hour. There's also various street parking around the area. The food was pretty good, with average portion sizes. A little on the pricey side, but not enough to ruffle feathers. Overall, decent spot. .

Yelp
Went to Thai 9 tonight after a long day's work. I was looking for comfort, good food, and friendly conversation, Thai 9 never disappoints. The food was fantastic, flavourful, and the perfect temperature. I had the Crab Rangoon along with Panaeng Curry with chicken. The Curry was perfect for what I needed! Thank you Thai 9 for making my night!

Amanda S.

Yelp
First off, this place is a complete surprise! I was shocked when I walked in and how open & inviting the space was. The lunch specials are huge portions for a very reasonable price. Their salad dressing is so unique and delicious. I love the shrimp tempura roll. Everything I had here was awesome.

Nancy J.

Yelp
Shout out to the new owners. The lunch that my friend and I had today was outstanding. The miso soup was the best we have had in a long time. Our server was prompt and attentive. The red and green curry with chicken was spot on. Can't wait to return.

Azure G.

Yelp
Came here on a Thursday with some co-workers and was quite pleased with the choice! We made reservations, so no wait time. Gorgeous building with so much personality - would love to know about its history. Our server was friendly, attentive and helpful. My only comment is he recommended a level 5 spice whereas I could have handled a 7 at least - but I understand the mentality to err on the side of mild to a white girl like myself... happens all the time ‍. We ordered a few rolls to start, all of which were delicious. For my entree I went with a cashew veggie/tofu stir fry - it was yummy and the portions were large (two meals out of it for me!). Price points were fair on all the dishes. They had a decent local beer selection which is always a plus for me. I am usually hesitant with restaurants that have a large menu but it seems like Thai 9 can offer variety while still crafting tasty dishes. Bravo, y'all! I'd come back for sure.

Yelp
Visiting family and decided to do a family dinner here. The ambiance is great. This might be the largest Thai restaurant I've ever seen. The customer service was great. They said an hour wait for 9 people on a Saturday night but we may have only waited 20 minutes. Appetizers: The crab rangoons and spring rolls were so good. The wings not so much...they were basically mixed in ketchup sauce. The downside was that all the appetizers were really cold, not even room temp. The main entrees were good and really hot. Chicken Thai Spicy - this is a stir fry dish that wasn't too bad but something was missing for me. Chicken Drunken Noodles - this was good but a little on the sweet side. Could have used a little more spice. Overall, this is a highly recommended Thai restaurant and I would go back again myself. Note: For the spice level, the use a 9-point scale where 9 is spicy but still bearable if you enjoy spicy food.

Angel K.

Yelp
One of my all-time favorite restaurants! This place has yet to disappoint! Food and service is always on point and amazing! The BEST crab rangoons and sauce I've EVER had! They are huge and actually have lots of crab in them! So yummy and flavorful!!! I also love that you can choose a spice level for the dish that you choose! I personally like it spicy! They have many tasty options-all loaded with flavor. Food is always fresh- and service is fast and professional! Inside it looks fancy and I really enjoy the ambiance of the place. The price is reasonable for the quality of food and service that you receive! You do have to pay to park in their lot.. but I prefer that over parking on the road.

Theresa J.

Yelp
Atmosphere was nice, a little loud. Plenty of room for groups. Food is basic Thai food plus sushi. Sushi was not appealing to me, the seaweed portion was very chewy which was a turn off. Would not recommend the sushi. Hot green tea by the pot was nice. Server was friendly.

Yelp
Excellent authentic food that is pretty reasonable price very good find Will back here next time on our trips From Memphis TN

Lauren R.

Yelp
Perfect. I'll admit I can be generous with my 5 stars but if this spot doesn't qualify for you, I have no idea what you're looking for out of food much less life. Huge portions, authentic spices, fair prices, clean, ample seating, outdoor seating, and quality service. Sincerely, doesn't get better than this. Highly recommend the crab rangoons - that have NOT shrunk in size like at most places. Chicken satay is also a favorite of mine, specifically bc the peanut sauce is incredible. The sushi we got with spicy Mayo was extra spicy but good. The curries, fried rice, and pad Thai are all great. You will not regret coming here - but do plan to leave full and with a to-go box.... Something to keep in mind - especially if you're not going straight home (you can always have a cooler with an ice pack in the car). I only regret not being able to also eat dessert (they sounds great)

Sybil S.

Yelp
wonderful atmosphere service was stupendous. I'm always happy to be there. The food is wonderful too. There is two not enough superlatives to tell anyone how much I enjoy I-9. I live way out in Bellbrook Ohio, so I can't get there often but I certainly enjoy going as to my friends

Byron S.

Yelp
What a great place for dinner. This was highly recommended by a local friend and I was not disappointed. I sat at the bar for a time and tried a few diffeent beers on tap. The bartender was gracious enough to tell me the history of Thai 9. The meal was awesome and will be returning in the near future. Give them a try and enjoy.

Christopher A.

Yelp
Food selection, quailty of food preparation and presentation Service is excellent and the dining experience is positive. One of my favorites in Dayton.

Jessica W.

Yelp
Thai 9 is a great lunch spot! The lunch specials come with their signature salad or miso soup, in addition to a giant pile of noodles! I always end up with lunch the next day, too. Try the Thai iced tea: sweet tea with sweet & condensed milk.

Adam J.

Yelp
Evidently, there is a new owner and people in the kitchen. Despite it being busy on a Sunday evening, our service was slow, erratic. The food was subpar and one dish came out ice cold. It was returned to the kitchen and came out warm, but the damage was done as the next day resulted in stomach ache, it's quite a shame because this was a legendary restaurant and the Oregon district thrived with it

Michelle V.

Yelp
Delicious food Huge menu Great atmosphere Good service It's a classic in the Oregon District- great for a date night Reservations highly recommended/ there will be a wait during peak hours

Chris A.

Yelp
My friends and I went to Thai 9 on a Wednesday afternoon/evening around 5:30pm. The inside has a very nice Asian/Thai feeling. I've been to Thailand before and it represented a lot of their natural resources with their wood. Since it was a nice day outside we wanted to sit outdoors. They did have a outdoor seating area which was very nice. Our server was very helpful and kind. He was very quick and always checked up on us. I got the Paid Thai with Tofu. My only complain with this is the tofu should be cut/cubed a little smaller. They were big and could also pose as a choking hazard. But it was easy for me to slice them in half. It was very tasty and their spice level is just right! I totally recommend for great service and food:)

Maria W.

Yelp
This was my first time at this restaurant and my second time visiting Dayton, Ohio. I was a bit skeptical about eating Thai food due to it being spicy, but to my surprise you were able to choose your level of spicy, of which I loved. The dish I had was really good, I especially enjoyed the veggies and the sauce as well. The service was really great and the waiter was knowledgeable about the menu and even recommended some personal go-too dishes of his own. The decor was super cute. The atmosphere was relaxing and calm. Would definitely come again.

Kim B.

Yelp
It would've gotten 5 starts but there was quite a bit of gnats that distracted us a bit. The food was super good. I went to my fav go-to and it didn't disappoint. We also got the fried fish and even with a .5 spice, it had quite a kick! Definitely delicious!!

Shanerous L.

Yelp
Great place for an Ohio Thai place. The Pad Thai, my benchmark dish, was overly sweet and it wasn't palm sugar derived. Spice was OK, got a level 7 spice and it wasn't that hot. Could have done an 8 or 9 probably and been on par with what I am used to. Nice ambiance and decor, though not really on-theme.

Scott C.

Yelp
Thai 9 is my absolute favorite restaurant in Dayton! The service is the best, the restaurant and the bar are stunning and the food is perfect. I know pretty well as I eat here with my partner at least once a week. Sorry for the photo dump but it was time for me to update my review. We normally eat at the bar and the two main bartenders couldn't be better! Seriously, they're that good. But if you happen to eat in the beautiful dining room area the service is just as good. As far as the food goes, EVERYTHING is good! My personal fave is the Massaman Curry. But everything is good. The Pad Thai is sublime, the spicy basil is amazing. It's all good. And if you don't know what to order, just ask the friendly staff, they'll always point you in the right direction. I couldn't be a bigger fan of Thai 9 and I couldn't recommend them more!! They are absolutely wonderful!!!

Jack D.

Yelp
Waited 50 minutes for a few sushi roles. My caterpillar roll had been sitting for ~15 minutes waiting to be taken to my table and in that time the avocado got the rice soggy. They skimped on the caviar. My salmon roe was bland and underseasoned, and was also sitting so long the sticky goo from the last of the salmon roe (ordered two orders, but they could only give me one as they ran out) ran through and out the rice in the bottom. Below mediocre for over double the price of other sushi restaurants.

Charles T.

Yelp
We got the pad see ew and a dragon roll. The Thai dish was average but overly sweet. The sushi has an an unusual sauce and non traditional ingredients in it which we were not a fan of. The server did not make eye contact with us after taking our order and we waited quite a bit before being able to ask for her help. It was a casual and semi intimate ambiance. The table was a bit sticky and utensils were pretty worn out. Overall, an average Thai restaurant in a small city.

David F.

Yelp
This restaurant continues to be one of my favorites. I work in Dayton and live 25 minutes north but would make the trip any time. Food is always fresh, and never overcooked or dry. Inside is bright and clean, and a great patio. My favorite is the Spicy Fried Noodles (rice noodle option). With chicken it's great and the basil really comes through to brighten the flavor. Give it a try!!

Daniel D.

Yelp
If you don't know ... now you know. This place is an absolute staple to Dayton. Best Thai food I've ever had. Maybe the best food. Same servers and they always treat you well. Family owned. Love it!

Justine W.

Yelp
The food was amazing!! We sat outside on the second floor balcony. The service was good, the waitress didn't seem to have any issues recommending dishes/drinks or being available. Only reason it's four stars instead of five would be that there was a wasp nest underneath the table next to us, and then big ants, and flys made it hard to enjoy. Maybe the lower level outdoor area would've been better. All in all would definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Sara I.

Yelp
One of my fav Thai restaurants in Dayton! I love panang curry and they serve a good one - big portions and big flavor too. I like spicy food but if you don't, you may not be able to handle their food. As someone who lives in LA, I can't say that their sushi impressed me but maybe I'm just spoiled with good sushi on the west coast. Service was slow but the restaurant was also slammed on a Tuesday night so you know they must be popular. $3 parking in the lot out back.

Sam U.

Yelp
Since moving to Dayton everyone has raved about Thai 9 and I was finally able to try it for myself last weekend. I ordered the duck curry and it was very tasty. Everyone enjoyed their meal but I will say that everyone liked my entree the most. I love spicy but I ended up ordering the 5 spicy level because I wanted to make sure I didn't overdo it and lose out on the curry flavor. The 5 was spicy enough without overdoing the flavor of the duck so I would say it was the perfect decision. The service was great considering they were absolutely packed and understaffed. Our waiter still took time to be personable and make sure we were all doing okay which was much appreciated. I will definitely be eating here again and I want to make sure I try some of their sushi the next time I am here.

Dyanna D.

Yelp
So the food here is great. Today I wanted a sushi roll with salmon, avocado and cucumber with some spicy mayo. Which I get other places for $8. Today for that same roll here it was 7.95 for the salmon, 1.59 for spicy mayo. 2.00 for avocado and 2.00 for cucumber. That's a $13 roll!!! I'm shocked. It was also only a small 6 piece roll.wish I had took a picture but. Very disappointing.

Tesa W.

Yelp
Sooo Good fresh tasty All ways the Best soup rice or even some asta dishes and sushi is melt in your mouth!!

Monique W.

Yelp
Thai 9 is a staple of the Oregon district and it's well deserved. The food is always made fresh and good. When it's in season theamgo sticky rice is delicious. The stir fry is very good. They also have sushi but I've never tried it. The only thing I don't like is if you ask for it very spicy they use a insane amount of red chili flakes so it can get stuck in your teeth and it's not a pleasant eating experience.

Ilene S.

Yelp
4.5 Had a wonderful experience at Thai 9. Found it by looking thru Yelp reviews and completely enjoyed my meal. Start off with the shrimp dumplings and wonton soup. The soup broth was little and flavorful. The wonton noodles were thin and tasty. Sushi rolls were also good especially the Thai 9 special roll. The pad Thai was fabulous, just the right heat and full of chicken.

James G.

Yelp
Food is always good here. Service is ok because I've only been with larger parties most recently.

Theresa C.

Yelp
Been eating there since opening night yrs ago. New owners are maintaining the same quality as the original family! The carrot salad is a meal in itself. Haven't had sushi since new ownership, but they are maintaining previous recipes & even upping them a bit! Some meal have Thai-American fusion that appeals to people who aren't Thai enthusiasts that works for kids.

Amanda P.

Yelp
All meals were good and great portions. We all took food home. Pad Wun Sen- delicious. I got number 2 spicy and it was too much for me but strangely the number 4 on the vegetarian dish was less spicy. So definitely go with your gut on spice level. Pad Sea Ewe- my friend really enjoyed this but I thought the noodles were cooked strangely and could have used more sauce. Pad Thai with Seafood- was very yummy and my friend liked it a lot Eggplant Basil- great flavor and assortment of veggies with enough sauce The draft beers and mules were good. The 21 was nice but didn't need the club soda. The service was really great. They were attentive and kind.

David L.

Yelp
First time here visiting daughter at UD- she loves it I was very pleased with the food & experience. Large, interesting menu and surprisingly huge space.

Eric L.

Yelp
I feel like this place keeps going downhill over the years. I remember when I ate here 13 years ago and found it amazing and since then it's hit or miss. My last several times have been misses. The potato in my curry was raw. Lacked flavor. It tasted better as a leftover when the potato was allowed to soften during the reheat process.

RoseMarie H.

Yelp
Crab fried rice is why I came here. I love Eddie v's and since we don't have one in Ohio this was the only option. And I have to say it was really good. I may have enjoyed it more.

Sarah M.

Yelp
Kind of mad this place has only 3.8 stars, so I'm adding this review to help increase the rating. This is solid Thai food, and top ten restaurants in the Dayton area. Both the inside and outside is super cute. The papaya salad is super spicy for the same spice level in any other dish that you're used to, just a heads up. Staff is always super friendly. Go here.

AJ M.

Yelp
I had crab fried rice and the salmon sushi roll. The food was good and the service was also nice. Everything came out in a timely manner and the waitress was attentive. I like the layout of the dining area; it was busy and slightly above moderate noise level around lunchtime.

Darla B.

Yelp
Appetizers are no longer worth it. New owners cut the size in half and they were cold. The rest was fine.

Steve S.

Yelp
My wife and I had dinner last night at Thai 9 and although we have been here before I apparently had not reviewed it. Let me start this way: you won't be disappointed. The service is on point and the food for the most part, is exceptional. We started with crab Rangoon. It's good, not the best as I prefer these loaded with crab and there were not. In spite of that, the chef has done a nice job creating these. Next I had the Seafood Clay Pot. (There isn't any clay in this). This was one of, if not the best seafood combinations I have ever had. It's a mix of succulent crab, tender squid, shrimp, and mussels along with vegetables in a brown sauce. AND the serving size was so big I couldn't finish! The heat level was at 4, I just loved it! My wife had the beef curry and I tasted it. Again, this was exceptional with wonderful curry and tender beef. She said that the heat level was perfect at a 3 as recommended. Oh yea. This is one of the good places! And as Arnold said, 'I'll be back.'

Sarah F.

Yelp
Our favea: You have to try the mango salad! Pineapple fried rice, add peanut sauce Spicy Fried Noodles with chicken and rice noodles

Mike A.

Yelp
Waiter was horrible. The food was fantastic but doubt I will go back after the second time in a row of poor service. Prices are high and would expect the service to meet the cost of the food.
