The Best Thai Food in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This Foster-Powell Thai restaurant serves well-executed takeout standbys like curries, pad kee mow, and tom kha; however, the menu has a few surprises within its depths, like the khao kha moo, tender braised pork over rice with pickled mustard greens for acidity."

Stopped here today for the first time. The food here is amazing and there is lots of it. I'm not a knowledgeable connoisseur of Thai foods, but I've had a lot of different Pad Thai dishes over the years. I have to say that this was one of the best I've ever had. Lyn had a plate of Pad Cashew Nut which she loved. We also had some appetizers: Pot stickers, coconut prawns, and cream cheese wontons which were all terrific. The food is first class, as is the presentation and the very friendly service. Prices are very reasonable. We will definitely be coming back here. Right now I cannot think of another Thai restaurant in the Portland area as good as this one.

Stumbled upon this Thai restaurant and decided to give it a try. It's a cute little hole in the wall. Upon arrival the server was pleasant, the service was quick, and the food was amazing! Packed full of flavors and the ingredients tasted fresh. I had the Pad See Ew and my spouse had Tomkha Soup. Both dishes were great!!

This has been my family’s favorite Thai restaurant since they opened. The food is amazing. My large extended family can always get seating together after events. This restaurant is a secret gem in Portland. The 2 or 3 bad reviews look like they were reviewing the wrong restaurant.

For our first dinner in Portland, we visited a charming Thai restaurant. We ordered Khai Soi and Pad Kee Mao. The Khai Soi was exceptionally tasty, rich, and bursting with flavor. The Pad Kee Mao was equally delicious. The waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful, enhancing our dining experience. The interior of the restaurant was beautifully decorated. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking for a delightful Thai meal.

My boyfriend and I checked out this place today for lunch. Wow, everything was great. The place is nicely decorated, the service was top notch, and the food was so delicious. He got the Pumpkin Curry, I got the Tom Yum Soup and Thai Iced Tea, and we split the cream cheese wontons. I messed up on my soup order and meant to get Tom Kha instead of Tom Yum. They added coconut milk to it for me and brought it back nice and hot. It was soooo good! Two very happy campers here. We will be back. I recommend checking them out.

Google
It’s super cute inside. Staff was attentive and friendly. Food: pad Thai could have used more flavor. Great portion size though! For that, definitely worth it. Spicy was not spicy. The peanut sauce is the reason for the 5 star review because holy cow that was good. I would put that on EVERYTHING. If they ever start selling that by the jar COUNT ME IN. Best peanut sauce EVER.

Google
⭐️ 5 stars ⭐️ The Khao Soi and Pad Thai were both incredible—so much flavor and just like in Thailand. Noodles were very fresh and the shrimp was cooked perfectly. Absolute yum. (Thom yum one could say). The owner is super warm and friendly. Definitely recommend.”

Google
I’m genuinely shocked this place has 4.7 stars. We got Yellow Curry, Pad Thai, and Cream Cheese Wontons. The portions compared to every other Thai place in Portland are VERY small. The 5 TINY Wontons you get for $10 is also a complete joke. Save your money!

Yelp
We've lived a few blocks from this place for a while and have seen it gone thru many incarnations so we were skeptical when it became a Thai place but I'm so glad we finally got over our skepticism and gave it a shot! The environment inside is cozy yet open with plenty of seating. They have a bar inside which is just delightful. The staff was very friendly and attentive. The food came quick enough and was paced well with the drinks and appetizers. We had the egg rolls, the Khao Pad, and the Yellow Curry and were very happy with all of our dishes. It's a pretty standard Thai menu but the Khao Pad was a unique dish to me and I thoroughly loved it! It's a beautiful take on fried rice with big bits of freshly cooked veg. My partner really liked his Yellow Curry. The warm dish and the spice were perfect on a cold evening. Give this place a shot. The outside may not look like much, especially if you've seen it as the former businesses there but it's definitely our choice for Thai from now on!

Yelp
We stumbled on this place on a whim and was a little skeptical at first since there was nobody inside, but the food came out pretty good! The value of this place is great since the portion sizes are ginormous. The server was attentive and very patient with our group as we tried to figure out what to eat. In the end, a great experience and I would come back for the crab fried rice.

Yelp
What a lovely spot ! Very cute decor, great for lunch or dinner. They have a full liquor and beer/wine selection. Very reasonable prices, and the food. The food is great. Fresh, crisp veggies. The server was very friendly, it felt like being in someone's home. That's why I say "lovely". Great vibe. Great food.

Yelp
Suuuper nice owner. We ALL need to get our Thai food from her and her family. Such good food. Now we just need to clean up the parking areas (hint hint City of Portland!)

Yelp
first review! i will try to be as thorough as possible. this is a brand new thai restaurant located on powell, previous owner of khao soy thai in the pearl! the authentic flavors certainly transferred over to this location (as well as their signature khao soy dish) we ordered a feast for 5ish people, but i didnt quite get to snap a photo of it all.. please keep in mind that some of these dishes (like the skewers) were somewhat of a bulk order, so it doesn't accurately depict the amount you would get with just a single order. the place used to be a sports bar with pool tables, and they have done a lovely job with revamping the space! much of the decor as well as the wooden tables were made by the owners themselves. love the creativity, especially with their accent wall that features traditional thai plates which are very hard to find! while there are many thai restaurants in this area, i would highly recommend giving this place a try! some of the top highlights for our group were the pork skewers/moo ping (best eaten with sticky rice), pad grapao, and all of the noodle dishes! if you're someone who likes herbs and spice, the nam tok moo is a really great option as well (also goes good with sticky rice lol) price wise, very reasonable considering the generous portions. service, also delightful - no complaints.

Yelp
Everything I've eaten here is better than your average Thai restaurant in Portland. All the soy sauce they use is gluten-free, which is reassuring for those who have celiac. The dining room is spacious and comfortable. It's a family run operation, so they take great pride in it and everyone is super friendly.

Yelp
What a great surprise to find Thai Avenue! We came in around 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. There was no waiting(parking can be a bit challenging though, we found a very close spot on the street) As a party of six foodies and one of us a chef, we have high expectations of where we eat. First, We noticed everything was spotless, well spaced and nicely decorated. Service was fast and friendly, our appetizers came quickly, salad rolls, calamari and creme cheese, wonton; plenty for six and all delicious and beautifully presented. Then the main dishes arrived, we planned to serve "family" style and with six dishes, there was enough for everyone to try everything and had a little bit leftover. Also of note; there was not an attempt to skimp on main dishes by serving a lot of rice. There was just enough, not too much. All the dishes were excellent, we had mixed veg stir fry with tofu, Khao Pad, Khao Soi and three others. They were all superb. We got the feeling this was a fairly new establishment, so even more worth trying out. It was a great experience, exceeded expectations for us and our San Francisco area guests. Well done Thai Avenue!

Yelp
Thai Avenue is an undiscovered treasure! The food was delicious and plentiful. - Couldn't have been better. Don't miss this delightful find! we found it in April and can't stop going back! The staff are helpful in every way and a pleasure to be with. Amazingly family friendly. I would rated 100% Dash five star

Yelp
We had an outstanding experience on our first visit. The food was great and the service even better. Look for the "TA" sign, as the signage doesn't clearly show that this is a restaurant. Strongly recommended for good, affordable Thai food.

Yelp
We were happy with the friendly staff and the takeout we got was very tasty and had the right about of spice (red curry and pad see ew). We will be back for takeout for sure!

Yelp
super tasty Thai food, so glad to have a good place in the area! I got the green curry, the third spice level. Loved the flavor, high-quality ingredients, and friendly staff.

Yelp
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Thai Avenue SE Powell location! The ambiance is very welcoming and the service was impeccable! Most importantly, the food was absolutely AMAZING!!! The portions were quite large as well so you will be sure to have leftovers. I feel that I am a connoisseur of Thai food and Thai Avenue ranks at the top of my go to Thai restaurants for sure. Do not hesitate to try it, you will love it!!!

Yelp
This place just opened but I've been several times and already love it! They have all the classic Thai dishes you'd expect, plus some I haven't seen at too many other places, all delicious. The owner came over one time and talked about finding the perfect khao soi recipe back in Thailand, and you can really tell how much love they put in the food there! The decor and ambiance are cute, and the server is always a total sweetheart. My new favorite Thai place in town!
