Thai Hot Box

This place was highly recommended by my SO. After stopping by the post office, we came here for a meal. We started off with two Thai iced teas. He ordered the chu chee duck, and I ordered the bamee yok petd. Speaking of my dish only - the bamee yok petd has generous portions of LI duck, sweet and savory, with a nice warm broth. The noodles were thin and chewy, great to dip into the broth. It's served with a side of banana peppers and extra chili, which packs a big punch if you sprinkle too much. The staff were attentive and friendly. They accommodated my baby stroller, which was a relief. I do wish they had a changing table in their otherwise spacious bathroom! Overall, I enjoyed the food and want to try more of the menu.

So happy I tried this place! The wings zaab was wonderfully crispy and a good size. The crab rangoons were great as well but were a little small in my opinion. Now this place does spicy food! The tom yum noodle soup was spicier than I thought it would be (2 chili peppers) but I still enjoyed it. The shrimp balls and fried pork rind in the soup were lovely. Our server was very kind to point out other non-spicy dishes to try next time as they could see me struggling lol. They also explained they're able to make the tom yum noodle soup less spicy upon request which is good to know for next time. The price is really good for the amount of food we got! The inside is clean and smartly decorated.

I'll start of with the food being really good. The curry in the chu chee duck curry had such a deep level of flavor. I wish the crispy duck was a little crispier but the duck itself was flavorful and juicy. The curry puffs were good but I would come back and try a different appetizer, they were pretty small. The service was impeccable they were very friendly and the food came out within 10 minutes, didn't even feel like we waited at all. If you are looking for some Thai food very quickly or even takeout that won't break the budget 100% make your way here.

My friend and I walked in for dinner and were able to be seated immediately. The restaurant is on the smaller side and the tables were close together. When eating at a Thai place, I usually get pad thai, but I decided to try something new and I'm glad I did! I got the Pad Woonsen, which is stir fried glass noodle with onion, scallion, carrot, bok choy, napa, bell pepper and egg in brown sauce. I liked that it came with a lot of vegetable, the flavor of the dish was very good, and the portion size was decent.

This place is pretty decent for Thai food. I got the chicken with basil sauce lunch special, which also came with spring rolls. The chicken tasted good, and was a manageable level of spice. The portion size was pretty good for the price, as the lunch special was $13 and I felt decently full after. I didn't really like the egg rolls though since they didn't taste fresh.

Overall Thoughts: This is a chill, aesthetic restaurant serving up delicious Thai dishes-- especially tasty mock duck. Both the restaurant itself and the food presentation were very aesthetic, with a lot of thought put into both. The service is quick and friendly, and the prices are good too-- especially compared to other Thai spots in the area. Food I tried: - Garlic sauce sauté with mock duck (5/5): This was my favorite dish from here. The mock duck was super tasty, with a delicious meat-like texture and strong garlicky soy sauce flavor. You can really taste the garlic in the sauce, and it was really good. - Bamee yok nah petd (3.8/5): I didn't love this one as the noodles made up the majority of the dish yet they were kind of bland and overpowering. The duck was crispy and flavorful though. Because there wasn't much else in this dish besides the noodles and duck, it was kind of a monotonous dish overall. - Pad woon sen with mock duck (4.3/5): This was pretty good-- again the mock duck was amazing and the glass noodles were flavorful and well-sautéed. -- Price (relative to peers): 4.4/5 Food: 4.3/5 Ambience: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Overall Value: 4.5/5

My server was so friendly! And the food was extremely good!! I had the cashew nut rice w/chicken lunch special. There were plenty of great quality veggies, which made the dish look so colourful and extra tasty. I loved dining in here bc the wall displays are very pleasing to look at including the street market display paintings and the vinyl record collections of the OG rock & roll.

The spot is small but if you can get a table the portions are perfectly sized and tasted yummy. I love Thai food and this place does it well. Plus the prices are reasonable for sure.

Ok so this has to be amongst the best Thai food I have ever had. I was strolling in the city and was hungry for some Thai food and saw this place. This is a tiny tiny restaurant which isn't uncommon in New York City and it's suburbs, it has a few sit down tables and a wall high table with bar stools. I ordered with really no high expectations. My order was Thai beef with vegetables and it came with a side salad and sticky rice. It was from their lunch special. The food was so so fresh. I mean the salad was crunchy and the peanut dressing was to die for if she just sell their house dressing the game was over. Onto the main-the beef was terrific wonderfully saturated with veggies bursting of flavor I can't tell you how good it was. I just want to go to NYC to eat there again. The portioning was good for lunch. The service was great.The food came out in timely manner and price was fine as well. You can check their menu and pricing before going. I didn't use the bathroom so can't comment on the cleanness. Overall excellent food. Kudos chefs and team. I'm definitely craving it as I'm writing this review.

Vibes: staff was friendly and nice - enjoyed our time here and they served us quick. was also very attentive to keeping our water cups full Chicken Satay: easily my favorite. the peanut sauce combined with the juicy chicken and the zesty vinegary sauce was the ultimate combo. absolutely melted in my mouth pad thai: classic and can never go wrong. would have loved shrimp or chicken in it and more peanuts + lime on the side but it still hit. wasn't very noodle heavy but we still all thoroughly enjoyed and cleaned our plates green curry: on the spicy side!!! not much chicken in it but the curry was delicious and very coconut heavy. loved this and it came with a side of white rice which really helped bring out its flavors. basil fried rice: the egg on top was the main character. very savory and had a strong but not overpowering basil flavor. again wish it had more chicken because none of our plates really did so i found myself eating lots of rice and no protein papaya salad: the best starter. very juicy and savory!

The duck salad consist of small bits of overcooked leather like duck. The drunken noodles with chicken was very spicy hot. I like hot, but this was just overly hot. I don't know how they can get a 4 1/2 star review, who is writing those reviews.

I live for the shrimp cakes!!! PERFECTLY PREPARED, and the chicken and shrimp dumplings are off the hook delicious

The food was fantastic! Best Thai food I've had in a very long time!! Relatively small but charming space! Service was quick at first but towards closing time we waited 20 minutes for mango sticky rice...

Food was beyond amazing and very fulfilling. Loved the crispy pork belly in massaman curry. Unbelievable taste. Then I had the Tom Yum soup with chicken. Just amazing

Ordered items: Chicken satay drunken noodles (recommend) krapow kai daow (recommend) All the food tasted great and the inside of the small restaurant was much nicer than I expected. They were playing 2000s/2010s throwback music which I loved. I also loved the cool collection of vinyl records on the wall.

Both things I ordered was brunt !! And tasted salty . The lady that took my order was nice !!!

Food was great! Wonderful service! We ordered Pad Thai with veggies, massaman curry with chicken, pineapple fried rice and another duck menu item. Everyone was pleased with their order.

Amazing food and terrific service. We've been back several times since! I got the green curry and pad Thai both were excellent.

My friend and I had a really good meal here, and compared to other Thai restaurants in the area, this place is quite reasonable. I loved the Tom kha soup, and the green curry was delicious. The inside is small so we did have to sit at the small bar area. The service was good and the food came out quick.

I hav ordered PadThai from this restaurant today and I am happy to report that it was the best padthai I have had in a very long time! I order thai on a weekly basis and this experience was so pleasant. First of all, they use their own delivery drivers and these drivers actually follow delivery directions! So amazing. Second of all, food arrived fast and was still warm! And lastly, I could not stop eating... until last bite. Can't wait to order again!

I stumbled into this precious restaurant and wow! This quaint, beautifully decorated spot has some phenomenal dishes. I was welcomed in and seated quite quickly, despite having a limited number of seating it wasn't too packed at lunch. There is a bar right when you walk in, where so many people walked in to grab their takeout, which instilled some more confidence that I was in a good spot. I ordered the green curry lunch ($12), so I got some crispy spring rolls to go with my meal. The curry was spicy, but extremely flavorful.

From LA visiting NY and what a perfect choice to make! If your walking around looking for good Thai food, this is it! The drinks were phenomenal and refreshing with high quality ice that doesn't melt so it doesn't water down. The pad see ew with chicken was so flavorful and the duck soup with a savory broth and delicious noodles paired with a juicy duck. The staff are so sweet and the dining area has awesome decor.

Excellent local Long Island gem for Thai food. Super friendly staff, must try the Mama's Special sauce with shrimp or chicken. Owner is one of the chefs and is accommodating and warm. NYC level Thai food now available on the South Shore.

Found this place after craving some Thai and was no disappointed! Food was so good I had to come back 3 times in 2 days! Staff is very friendly and attentive and wonderful lunch specials. The Tom yum is my favorite vs Tom kha but it was all so amazing!!

Excellent quality food in a quaint but cute spot in the UWS. Service is fast and friendly. Def try the quarter roasted duck in curry. Iced tea was bomb too

I was super excited to try to try this place but I am so disappointed with the food. I got chicken drunken noodles but it just tasted tooo salty. Bummer Won't rerun

Thai cuisine will forever hold a special place in my heart. Thai food was the first cuisine I ate when starting my foodie journey. Bold flavors, inexpensive prices, good portions. This restaurant was quiet. When my friend and I arrived, there was one guy eating dinner while doing work on his laptop. Staff was polite and didn't rush us. Slowly the restaurant began to fill up. But not once did we feel rushed. Salad was a great starter. The dumplings were a new experience. Not used to dumplings looking so dainty. I liked them. Green curry was filling and the Tom Yum soup was so comforting. I love almost every Thai restaurant I go to. One peculiar thing about this restaurant, they don't have their own hot sauce. Every Thai restaurant has their own hot sauce. Bright red with the seeds. Instead this restaurant offered Sriracha. I'm so used to Sriracha being served with Vietnamese food, I was surprised to see it at a Thai restaurant. Solid restaurant. Good food, great service, affordable bill. Happy meal :)

I walked past a better-known ramen spot to try this place as the website images looked great. I ordered tack out. One order of spring rolls, and passing on a tried and true Pad Thai, an order of red curry. I asked for the "mild" spice level as one diner's "mild" is another's "spicy." I ate the rolls on a bench, unable to wait the walk home. The spring rolls were consistently crisp, and the dipping sauce was the color of light honey and pleasantly sweet and sour. The red curry with tofu, spooned over sticky white rice, was delightfully light and silky with a subtle but significant kick of flavor. I wouldn't want it any spicier for my first order, instead enjoying the large pieces of tofu and firm crunchy peppers and carrots. This place isn't in my neighborhood, but on a sunny day, I'll def walk over to get a meal - and try some other dishes. Service was fast and friendly, and the decor and music were inviting. It looked and felt like a nice place to share a meal.

Bang for your buck. Great Thai. So delicious would recommend to anyone in the area! Great for takeout.

Yay for nicely decorated restaurants that also serve good food! (For some reason, it seems like you can only have one or the other nowadays) While the space is a bit small, it's super bright and vibrant. The menu has tons of great options - my friend and I tried sautéed veggies with garlic sauce and white rice & the ground chicken with basil sauce and white rice. It's definitely a bit different from regular NYC Thai spots in terms of how the food is presented and their menu options, but different isn't always a bad thing!! The food was great, the staff were kind, and I think the best part is actually the location - after a long day of museum hopping, (there are tons in the area, majority of them free, as well) we were able to end it on a high note after finding this spot - one of the only few without a line or wait! @eatingwithzee

I had a craving for Khao Soi and was excited that this item was available on the menu. Beautiful presentation for a little space. My only suggestion was a little bit more of pickles to complement the dish. Crunchy noodles were perfect. there were two large pieces of chicken. noodles were chewy and perfect. The coconut curry soup was right blend of curriness. Good price point too.

Such a cute place! I love the decor and the service was super quick. We sat in the back by the counter. The waitress was super quirky and friendly..she got us everything we asked for very quickly and was super informative on the menu. The food was DEFINITEL DELICIOUS. The golden tofu was the best...i didnt even have time to take a photo of it because it was that good. I totally recommend this place and would go back whenever im in the area.

I usually love Thai hot Box... but I ordered a side of steamed vegetables and there was a WORM in it! A WORM!!! I wouldn't normally leave a review but when I called to tell the restaurant the woman on the phone rudely said, "So what do you want me to do about it?!" I just said "I just wanted you to be aware so you don't serve another worm to someone else..." So rude I'm really disappointed. I've spent hundreds of dollars at Thai hot box over the years...

One of the best Thai food spots on the upper east side. Never had trouble getting seating even though it's a small place. The food is amazing and always has high quality.

Nothing beats a good Red Curry and Basil Fried Rice from here. Such a good neighborhood spot!

Good quality Thai food. We ordered pickup today to check out this new spot (had seen it from the Ramen place next door). We ordered chicken larb and duck salad appetisers- both had a good spicy zip to them. Then had red curry, basil fried rice, and tom yum soup noodles- the red curry was solid, but the tom yum noodle soup was excellent and everyone's favourite. (Mixed in the noodles and veggies into the spicy soup in a separate bowl).

Recently I discovered this Thai dining place and wanted to try it out, the food was amazing. The atmosphere felt welcoming with quality tasting food. Our waitress was very kind and friendly, quick service. Excellent flavors of the dishes we tried and the proportions where huge. We ordered some spring rolls, Drunken noodles and Tom Kha Soup. Everything tasted fresh, I absolutely loved the sauce on the Drunken Noodles. A hidden gem with affordable prices!

I had the chicken pad Thai here for dinner and it was delicious! The noodles were cooked well and a bit thinner than most restaurants I've tried. There was freshly sliced chicken and raw bean sprouts and peanut garnish off on the side. Can't wait to try some of the other items on their menu!

Food was hot & prepared quickly. We ordered pick up. Walked in & out in less than 5 minutes. Staff was friendly & ensured we received every item we ordered before taking off. Serving size also good for price.

thai hot box was really an awesome experience. i like the decor. i ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer before realizing there is a lunch special. I got the coconut curry with chicken which came with rice and a side salad. it was delicious and filling. I didn't finish my lunch and asked for a soup container to take it. the server packed my food in a regular to go container without the red curry broth. oh well. lol i was really look forward to making more rice at home and enjoying the rest. i hope they don't reuse the broth i was just eating. oh well. i will definitely return if i happen to be in the upper east side.

This was great street Thai food. I don't find too many places in the city that offer the type of thai food that this place does. We ordered the the bbq roast pork platter with rice and sausage app, and a rice dish. We also ordered the crab Rangoon which I would pass on because it was just subpar. The chiang mai sausage was sooooo good! And the rice platter. It lost a star for the crab Rangoon, but other than that this is my new go-to Thai spot.

Really great value lunch special. Penang curry with a whole duck leg was delicious! Staff very nice, too.

We've now been to this restaurant twice in just a few weeks! The service is fast and there is no waiting around for a table. The menu is big with plenty of options! And there is a bathroom too!

Very good tom yum noodle soup! Just got back from Thailand a few weeks ago and found it comparable. Will definitely be back
