I recently had the pleasure of dining at the lovely Thai Orchid in Mission, KS for the first time. My first impression was very positive, as the ambiance was warm and inviting with elegant decor and soft lighting that set the perfect mood for a fine dining experience. The service was wonderful. Our server, Mary was attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. She made excellent recommendations and ensured that every aspect of our meal was perfect! Overall, Thai Orchid exceeded all my expectations. The combination of exceptional food, outstanding service, and a lovely atmosphere makes it a must-visit for anyone looking for a top-notch dining experience. I can't wait to return!

Came in for lunch and had a great time. Service was friendly and quick, our server Ashlyn was knowledgeable about the food. I had the pad thai with tofu and it was delicious. I also enjoyed the side soup and a Thai tea.

Google
We were unfortunately disappointed… we had this delivered which is never a problem when we get Thai take-out elsewhere. It arrived in a reasonable and estimate accurate amount of time. Fried foods such as calamari, egg roll, and crab rangoons were all fresh, crunchy and tasty, though the calamari did lack flavor in its breading. The fried chicken rice was yummy. However, the pad Thai, which is of course a classic staple of Thai restaurants. I’ve tried many of them and love it everywhere as do most people. I kept it simple with chicken and medium spice (which is what I get everywhere else too). Unfortunately, it was not tasty or good, in my opinion. It was dry and all stuck together. The flavor was odd- unlike I’ve ever had in a pad Thai before, and I frankly can’t quite describe it. It was BRIGHT red which I also found different. All in all, for the price, we will be sticking to other local Thai restaurants.

Google
This place is simply AMAZING! You need to give yourself the opportunity and try it. I can’t choose just a single item from their menu, but they have the best crab rangoons! If you are looking for a place with great food, great atmosphere, and great service, THIS is the place!

Google
We had a lovely lunch at Thai Orchid. Our servers, Rae and Ken, were knowledgeable about the menu, pleasant and efficent. The Pad Thai is so good especially when you add the restaurant’s yummy peanut sauce. Love the lunch special where you can get get soup or salad and 2 crab rangoons. We got the salad and then ordered soup, their Tom Kha soup is so delicious with chicken, mushrooms and peppers in a coconut milk broth.

I recently visited Thai Orchid in Mission, and it was a disappointing experience from start to finish. The staff appeared lazy, with several sitting on their computers while guests, including us, waited for service. Our server seemed to be under the influence, which likely contributed to numerous mistakes with our order. We were charged for food and drinks that never even arrived, which was incredibly frustrating. As for the food, it was bland and lacked authentic Thai flavors—definitely not what I was expecting. It's clear that the restaurant's prime days are long behind them. There are far better Thai options in Kansas, and I won’t be returning.

Google
Great surprise! This is the third Thai place we’ve tried to eat at in the last two days. The others were closed when we tried to go. What a wonderful surprise! I had the pineapple fried rice which was delicious and I haven’t had coconut shrimp that good in a long time! Sophie was very welcoming to our group of 7, which included two kids. We watched lots of take out food going out, so that will be next for us😁

My wife and I had a great experience our first time here. Our server Emily was very kind and well versed on the menu. All of her suggestions were spot on, and just what we needed. It’s always nice to go somewhere that supports Vegan Options. We had the yellow curry, fried tofu, and spring rolls (minus the chicken) EVERYTHING was cooked to perfection🤤 we’ll definitely be back🫶🏽

Yelp
My wife and I took a Wednesday trip here! Started our meal with crab rangoon and fried veggie dumplings and, while both were amazing, the crab rangoons were amazing. We both thought they were the best we've ever had! The double delight dish was good but I think if it were sweeter it would've been amazing. My wife got the pad thai and she enjoyed it a ton! She got spice level of 3 which was not too spicy and a good balance of heat and enjoyment of her dish. The servers were great and the environment was not busy! Enjoyed our time overall.

Yelp
I ordered some dinner for my wife and I tonight. My wife ordered the Pad Thai w/chicken. She loved her meal. We both shared the Crab Rangoon and boy was it delicious!!!!!! I ordered the meat combo fried rice. Mind you, I ordered the mild, but. Nothing had flavor...the meat was bland as all heck and the rice seemed flavorless. The only flavor it had was from me adding my own soy sauce. I ordered through the Toast app, and everything was fine. It was ordered and delivered all on time, no issues.

Craig A.

Yelp
Went there last night for to go. Haven't been there for a while. Must have new owners. Ordered combo fried rice and it was just white with chicken and beef and hardly any egg in it. Fresh spring rolls not fresh and very chewy. For the money they charged it was all unexceptional. Newer go back again. They should close their door.

Yelp
I was in Kansas City from early October until mid December 2024 and most nights when I'd get back to the hotel I'd just order delivery. Thai Orchid quickly made my short list of places to order from. In particular I would order their Laab with chicken. It took me a bit of searching through the local Thai places until I found one that served Laab (sometimes spelled Larb) and I couldn't have been more happy with it! I would generally order Hot or Extra Hot and it was always very enjoyably spicy for my preferred spice levels, which is very much on the high side. This wasn't the closest restaurant, Thai or otherwise, to my hotel which was near the airport on KCs north side. Even still the delivery was always fresh, hot and delicious. Highly recommended if you like Thai food that isn't Pad Thai, Drunken Noodles or (Red, Yellow, Green, Massaman) curry. I mean that stuff might be really good here as well but that's not the kind of Thai food I like so I don't know.

Yelp
This restaurant is situated in a not so fancy strip mall area, and when you walk in the ambiance certainly doesn't add much. It's a big room devoid of much decor, and very quiet music that you can hear any conversation from any table very well. Most people whisper because of how awkward the silence can be, but there was one table that wanted to broadcast to the whole restaurant. The food is okay - we got a pad Thai with shrimp and Masaman curry with chicken. The curry was well seasoned and went well with rice, and this was the saving dish. Pad thai was seasoned too sweet, without good smokiness to it, so it was just a bit too much. The shrimp was way overcooked and essentially was like biting on rubber pucks. Our waitress was nice, checked in on most tables around us but not ours, so we couldn't send the shrimp back, although, the chicken in the pad Thai was also over cooked so this may be a trend. They do a lot of carry out orders, so be prepared to wait a while for your order. I advise that you order an appetizer while you wait or you may go hangry! I don't think we'll be back, except for a quick take out.

Yelp
Food was some of the best we've had! We loved everything we tried. My favorite was the orchid chicken. Ambiance was nice and relaxing. Reasonable prices. Cocktail menu needs a lot of work. Biggest thing keeping from 4 stars... we made a reservation and got to the restaurant and they said they didn't have it and that they don't check their online reservations. Would've been extremely irritating on Christmas Eve had they not been able to still seat us. Service was a little slow- but the staff was small and working hard with a busy restaurant.

Yelp
Great Thai food - best I have had in KC for years! I had the duck curry and would definitely order it again

Yelp
Great Thai spot with various selections. Came here for restaurant week and it did not disappoint. Many dishes with various proteins, love the seating and inside Vegan friendly
google avatar

Max K.

Yelp
Very good Thai food. Great service and atmosphere. I really like all the curry and noodle dishes. They have good specials as well.

Sara C.

Yelp
We absolutely love this place, one of our top 5 take out options. Always consistent & delicious food, always quick, and the service is pleasant. We would dine in if we didn't prefer carry out, the restaurant is cool especially at dinner time.
google avatar

Julie H.

Yelp
Came to check this place out because I was visiting my friend in KC, and we were craving some Thai food. I always order drunken noodles (pad kee mao) to judge a Thai place. I also got a Thai tea as well. The food was pretty good, and the portion was big enough for me to take home some leftovers. We came on a Monday night, and it wasn't too crowded.
google avatar

Jansher D.

Yelp
The restaurant smelt really bad and the ambience was extremely outdated. I ordered the pad Thai and it didn't taste good. I've had way better pad Thai. The pad Thai just smelt and tasted like pure chili paste. Not worth 17$

T P.

Yelp
Great food , excellent service. The food is fresh and authentic Thai . The menu has a lot of choices

Debbie B.

Yelp
First time at Thai Orchard. I absolutely love Thai food, but this place did not deliver. We ordered the pineapple fried rice. It didn't appear to be fried at all more like just steamed. And it was heavy with curry flavor. not the same as most other Thai restaurants would serve it. there appears to be nothing on the menu with a Thai basil in it, which is my all-time favorite dish. The crab Rangoon was great and the Thai wings which had basil on them that was not Thai basil were good. We ordered dirty martinis and they did not have that on the menu at all. no olives, no olives juice. Probably won't go back.
google avatar

Yelp
I've had Thai Orchid twice now both times were fine. They do a ton of order out and pick up. It took about twenty minutes to do a to go order
google avatar

Tracey L.

Yelp
Thai orchid is great but DO NOT use GRUB HUB- if something goes wrong with your order they will not fix it, even if the restaurant is willing to.
google avatar

Kristen M.

Yelp
Don't skip the Tom Yum Soup! Absolutely delicious Thai food. We went on a Saturday night and they had plenty of tables. I ordered the thai iced tea and it was so good and plenty sweet. We started with crab rangoon with this incredible dipping sauce. Then we each had a small Tom yum soup. The flavors mix so well together. Then we got pad Thai. Generous portions with plenty to take home. They just started a new rewards program where you get $10 off after every $125 spend. As if we needed another reason to come back!
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
It was ok. I actually forgot that I had picked up for take out during covid. I ordered the pad see ew. They had two options for "thai hot". Either regular or extreme. I said extreme. It came out very mild. The sauce itself was very sweet, portions also weren't large. There are better options in kc.
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
The basil wings were delicious and chicken pad thai was packed with flavor! Service was good!
google avatar

Rachel E.

Yelp
I love how the veggies still have crunch and they make the best spring rolls and fried rice.
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
Friend recommended this place and I ended up coming here multiple times within the next couple weeks. I love their Thai coffee and for an additional "kick" get the cocktail version. I really like the way the form their crab ragoon and they are the right ratio of cream cheese and crab but also use the lighter type of won ton wraps. My go-to first visit is always the pineapple fried rice with shrimp and this was a tasty dish. I ordered mild but would recommend a medium. It had a good portion of shrimp. Second visit I got the Orchid Signature dish w/ chicken. The peanut sauce was slightly sweet with a mild peanut taste. The service is efficient and friendly
google avatar

Natasha D.

Yelp
Not my cup of tea but not horrible. Curry is more like a soup with dry chicken. Very mild flavor. Pad Thai tastes more like peppers.

Yelp
This is such a gem of a Thai restaurant. We had Cody serving us and he was incredibly helpful and friendly. Knows the menu well and can make well informed suggestions and recommendations. They were very accommodating here. I took the Thai Orchid kitchen, one of their special dishes and it was exactly as cost had described down to the texture. I'm a big fan of the peanut sauce and it was delicious. It is located in a strip mall so there is plenty of parking. It is quite spacious indoors also. I made a reservation but it wasn't necessary in the end. Will definitely be back to try out the other dishes too.

Adrian R.

Yelp
After discovering during 2020 COVID days, we decided to dine in for dinner. I was pleasantly surprised how nice it was inside. It's really a beautiful quaint space with table cloths, that I mentioned a couple times while we were there to my fiance. The food is always amazing and the flavors delicious. I can't recommend this place enough. The service was great as well! We will be dining in more often.

Yelp
Very good Thai food. Very nice people. Reliably good. My go to Thai restaurant. Have eaten there many time.
google avatar

Cindy P.

Yelp
Just got to say, this is my favorite Thai restaurant in the KC area. It's always delicious! Their lunch special is a great deal. I got Pad Thai, salad (the peanut dressing is delish), two crab rangoon (also delish) for $10.95. Wow, a delicious lunch for $11!
google avatar

Michelle L.

Yelp
This was my second time enjoying lunch at Thai Orchid with a friend. A local celebrity stopped in while we were eating this time and was greeted with the same polite service I've experienced at Thai Orchid. The food is great! Extra props to the staff and chefs for being able to decipher and deliver the perfect balance of flavorful spices without making our faces run!

Yelp
First, the ambience. Quiet restaurant, clean, with white tablecloths and piano jazz playing softly overhead. Much more formal than, I think, any other Thai place I know. And I liked it a lot. The service was efficient and friendly. And the food and drinks were fantastic. I had the roast duck red curry. The duck was ridiculously good, and the portion was massive. I ordered medium heat, and it was nice and spicy without putting me over the edge like "Thai spicy" does. I also had the steamed dumplings, which were very tasty, and the mango sticky rice, which hit all the right temperature and flavor notes. And a Siamese old fashioned, which I ordered "not too sweet." It was lovely. My one and only complaint is that the red curry was a bit too sweet. But I feel like that may be a personal preference, and everyone was so nice that I will not be afraid to ask if they can do it less sweet next time (or maybe recommend a dish that is less sweet). This may be my new favorite Thai place in the KC area (and that's saying something because there are some gems here).

Sonie C.

Yelp
Just left the restaurant, our first bite of chicken was very bad. Chicken was spoiled. Stay away .
google avatar

J. Antonio R.

Yelp
Ordered through DoorDash and exactly when my order was supposed to arrive, some person called from the restaurant to tell me they were cancelling my order... When I asked why, like a coward he just hung up the phone on me.
google avatar

Clint W.

Yelp
Always looking for good Thai food. This place is one of them. The service was awesome. Zoie gave us several recommendations and styles to prepare them. Very accommodating. The Pork Belly curry was to die for without dying. Lol.
google avatar

Nancy L.

Yelp
I've heard a lot of reviews about this place that i've been wanting to check it out! I went with a friend on a Saturday and it wasn't that busy. As we were looking at the menu we saw lunch specials and we thought this would be perfect because we weren't that hungry. Unfortunately, they don't do the lunch portions on Saturdays! I would highly recommend getting the crab rangoon. This place by far has the best crab rangoon and the sauce that goes with it! As for the pad thai, I got medium spice level and it was still spicy for me! I would say the pad thai is pretty average just like other thai restaurants i've been to.
google avatar

Tes H.

Yelp
Wow! Authentic food, wonderful service, clean place, and the best darn mango sticky rice I could ask for. The spring rolls contained super fresh ingredients and were tasty. The yellow curry is my favorite of all the curries they have - especially if you like sweet/creamy flavors. I highly recommend the Thai tea as well - super yum. Overall, I enjoyed every second of this place. If you like authentic far-from-chain-restaurant kind of meals, this is it. The owner and his wife are such wonderful people as are the rest of the family and staff running this place. I will be back with friends next time!
google avatar

Yelp
Hands down best Thai I have had in the US. The service is exceptional and the staff understands food allergies extremely well. The owners are typically there and greet their guests or stop by the table. Word of warning, the mild can be slightly spicy, so if you are sensitive to spice I recommend level 1. We have brought family members who've never had Thai food and they have all loved this place. Their sauces are to die for ( I love dipping sauces!, this place has the best, especially for gluten free). Their pad Thai is not overly sweet, which is spot on. All of their currys are phenomenal and you can tell they make them from scratch. We usually get their spring rolls to start ( the cold ones bc they are GF) and I could easily order them as my meal. They do serve alcohol, I typically do not order--but they have a decent selection. I recommend a reservation, especially on a weekend. We have ordered to go and have had no issues. Food still tasted fresh and delicious.

Austin P.

Yelp
I've never said this about a Thai restaurant before, but the food was totally lacking in flavor. I had massaman curry and ordered it medium. It should not be bland but it was. Staff were competent but not friendly.
google avatar

Rachel P.

Yelp
I enjoyed the spring rolls and the flavor of the curry sauces. I also liked the cucumber salad as a palate cleanser. The mango sticky rice was a perfect way to end the meal. The staff was friendly and helpful when sharing info about the ingredients and their menu. The ambiance is quaint with seating for 40 or so and a small bar with beer and wine. Looking forward to coming back.

Candid F.

Yelp
Hadn't been here for several years (we live a good distance away) but had good memories of previous visits, and found ourselves needing a dinner place after a 5-7 class, so headed back. We're REALLY glad we did ... to the extent that we already reserved a table for next week. We started with Crab Rangoon, which was literally the best we've had ... light bites served with an enchanting plum reduction sauce. The lady remembered the Orchid Chicken from previous visits (yes, it IS that memorable) and sort of sat there and grinned at her first bite. ... and kept grinning throughout ... Our server, Zoie, knows the menu thoroughly, and recommended Gra Prao, because she said the chef has fun making it, and because it was special. She was correct, of course. A wonderful experience, with good food and a welcoming staff who give every impression that they're glad that you - specifically - are there.

Yelp
Love the food! Our favorites: Chicken w/ Peanut sauce & Ginger Chicken. A must try if you live or in the area.

Yelp
I've had this review as a draft for over a year now, and now is a great time to share. We've been very judicious about venturing out for takeout, and Thai Orchid is one of the few places we've regularly returned to. It's held up admirably amidst challenges a restaurant should never have had to deal with. The food and service have remained consistently good, and both are a huge credit to the dedication of the team. So let's talk about that. When I started coming here, I was impressed first by the food, but also the people were just plain relatable and nice. Thoughtful, considerate, smart, exactly the kinds of folks I want to be around. Jonathan embodies this. I asked him what made Thai Orchid special, and he said consistency. Which is very true, but I would also add good people. He explained to me that a lot of restaurants can see a lot of churn in the back of house, especially one that has been around as long as them. But they've had a consistency in their kitchen team that has helped them stay great. And because they have good people, they've done this without falling tired or stale. They really seem to do everything well- a nice notch above many other spots. We've worked our way through much of the menu and have yet to find something we didn't respect. Even their Crab Rangoon is top-tier. Delicate, delicious, excellently cooked and utterly addictive, especially with their sauce. I'm always impressed when fried foods can still maintain a light freshness to them. For entrees, the Massaman curry is definitely our favorite, though there's still much more on the menu we could try. The combination of flavors, especially the coconut curry and peanut, is absolutely delightful- and it's definitely become comfort food for us. Finding great Thai food in Kansas City has been tough. Compared to some other metros we haven't been as competitive. But between Thai Orchid, Baramee, and Waldo Thai we've got something we can be proud of, and I'm genuinely cheering them on. Many thanks to the Thai Orchid team for their efforts in keeping folks safe and fed in the midst of all this.

Yelp
Alright Thai Orchid, I see you! This spot outdid itself in what was one of the best meals our family has had in the past 6 months. It's covid times, and we ordered delivery on a Friday night. Next time, we're ordering on their website because it looks easy and it's better for the business. Should I cut through the fluff and just get right to it? I think so: Yellow Curry: typically one of those curries that I like well enough, but never really order. They're typically sweeter, and like an Indian cuisine hybrid. Now if you take one thing away from this review, know that this was the BEST yellow curry I've ever had, bar none. They nailed the "medium spice" preference, we added extra vegetables to it, and included big pieces of lightly fried tofu. Flavorful, loaded up, and just all around perfection. Quick note on their curries, I so appreciate that it's more of a soup than the thicker, gravy like curries I've had at other spots. Panang Curry: coconutty, peanutty, spicy, and loaded up, this is always a classic go to for us. It was great, also perfect consistency and loaded up. We were so full, but we ordered a mango sticky rice to go with this. I'm not sure there could be a better dessert out there. Thinly sliced mango over a packed rectangle of sweetened sticky rice, with a side of sweetened coconut milk to drizzle over. One order was enough for a 2-4 people, too. Lastly, we love takeout/delivery, and it's especially helpful to have tips like this during Covid -- they got the order 100% correct, the bags were well packed, and the containers kept everything perfectly hot. They don't use styrofoam, and Thai cuisine travels well in general vs. say, a burger and fries. Highly recommend this, pandemic or not, and it's quickly rising up our ranks as a go-to Thai spot after this particularly epic experience.

Yelp
This place was delicious the service was amazing and the prices were just right. I loved the presentation of the food and ultimately it came down to the taste. The flavors and side dishes made the entrée that much better. Their Thai tea was phenomenal, I would highly recommend this place especially during lunch time. I was told it gets a little bit more busy around dinner and the prices are a little bit more expensive only because the portion size is bigger. If you're looking for Great taste service and cleanliness this is definitely a restaurant for Thai food.

Yelp
Really delicious place. Everyone is really nice. Big wide menu to choose from. So many choices! But caution the spicy level hot is really hot. My god . Real Thai right there. Woooooo! The take out was wonderfully boxed. Could maybe use some more vegetables in the dishes but oh well. Lovely presentation, hugeeee portions. Overall wonderful spot!

Yelp
I can't believe I went years living in the Kansas City area without knowing about Thai Orchid. My first experience was about a year ago when I had the honor of working with Telehue Foodie. We were a part of a video featuring some of the dishes and were able to meet the owners, Jon and his wife Asom. This restaurant has been in the family for two-generations now, and I believe over 30 years total! We just recently revisited for takeout. Everything about the process was easy - we called in our order, were given a time, and were able to pay when we picked up. Everything was ready very quickly, and we got text updates to know when to leave. We picked a few new-to-us items to try this time! We opted for the fried chicken fried rice, crab rangoon, and pad pak. Everything was delicious! The crab rangoons were little pockets of flavor that were quickly devoured. The chicken was cripsy without being greasy and the pad pak had a lot of flavor. I also got a thai iced coffee, that I ended up saving for the next morning (I didn't want to be up all night!). Highly recommend grabbing a bite to eat from Thai Orchid if you're in the Mission area!
google avatar

Andrea T.

Yelp
I have not had much Thai food before this and I can say we will be having more Thai! We ordered it to be delivered and the food was still fresh and hot when we got it. I got the Pad Thai with chicken as mild. It was very tasty, but no spice at all. I went with mild because I didn't want something too hot to eat, but next time I'll go medium for sure! I really enjoyed the Spicy Basil Wings! The one thing I didn't care for was some of the skin was thick and rubbery, but the taste was yummy! If you are worried about the worries spicy, I wouldn't be. They were not very spicy (I have to have plenty of ranch when I eat buffalo wings). I also really enjoyed the Chicken Satay with the cucumber sauce. It sounds so weird but it's so amazing! I can't wait to try the other items on the menu!

Yelp
I'm so shocked I had never been here before. If you haven't heard someone talk about it or read a review, it's easy to miss. We got back from vacation and were feeling lazy. I called in a to-go order because I had read great reviews. The lady was super kind over the phone and put in my order right away. It was done within 15 minutes and super hot when my husband brought it home. I've been to a lot of Thai places that just put a couple of crab Rangoons in an order. I got 10 or 11 for $7.50. They were delicious. We split the fried chicken fried rice. I had never heard of something like this at a Thai place but it's amazing. We got mild because we are too chicken when it comes to Thai spice, but I would probably get medium next time. All and all we spent roughly $25 bucks for a very filling meal. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Great neighborhood thai spot and my favorite place in KC. I love the panang curry, pad thai, thai coffee and the crab rangoons. The service is great and also is great as take-out.

Yelp
First time in Kansas City & i knew i had to visit the Mecca, Thai Orchid - This place was so cute and friendly and the food? Yum! I wen early for lunch and go a few of their lunch specials; PRO TIP - get the Duck Curry. So so good Will be back again, thank you for the hospitality and service!

Yelp
Great food. I have been dozens of times and have not had a bad meal. The Thai hot is super hot.

Yelp
Aloha! This is The Best Thai Food in Kansas! Every meal had exquisite taste that put a smile on our faces. Thai Orchid just celebrated 28 years in business! That's saying something folks! Jonathan and his awesome wife are a great couple/team. I cant wait to come back here and dine again. I highly recommend the Basil Chicken Wings, Red Curry, Pineapple Rice and the Thai Iced Tea! Thai Orchid is open for lunch and dinner! Tell them Chris Colgin sent ya and you won't be disappointed. You'll be Very Happy you dined here just as the many 1000s of people that have dined here the past 28 years! Mahalo Thai Orchid!
