Thai Pai Dong

"This no-frills shop may not be eye candy, but its Thai street food is enough to make food lovers return again and again, overlooking its lack of ambience. With varied textures and layered flavours, its drunkard fried noodles seduce with herbal aromas and ribbon noodles nicely charred on the edges. Don’t miss the Wagyu boat noodles – a classic jazzed up by a luxury cut of meat in a rich pork bone broth. Expect to queue." - Michelin Inspector

If you're in Hong Kong and craving authentic Thai flavors, Thai Pai Dong is a must-visit. Nestled in a cozy spot, this restaurant serves up a vibrant array of Thai classics that are both authentic and generously portioned. The atmosphere is relaxed, evoking a street-food vibe reminiscent of Thailand, while the service is warm and attentive. It’s cash-only, which feels a bit inconvenient for customers :-(

I recently dined at a restaurant that truly captures the essence of Thai cuisine. Each dish was a delightful exploration of flavors, and I couldn't be more impressed with the authenticity. The Pad Thai with Tiger Prawn was a standout dish. The noodles were perfectly stir-fried, achieving that ideal balance of chewy texture and rich flavor. The tiger prawns were plump and succulent, adding a delightful sweetness that paired beautifully with the tangy tamarind sauce. Garnished with fresh lime and crushed peanuts, this dish was both satisfying and bursting with authentic Thai flavors. Next, I tried the deep-fried homemade shrimp corn cake, and it was a revelation. Thick and fulfilling, each cake was packed with tender shrimp and sweet corn, creating a delightful combination of textures. The crisp outer layer gave way to a soft, flavorful center, making it a perfect appetizer. The chicken satay skewers were another highlight. Grilled to perfection, the chicken was tender and infused with aromatic spices. Served with a rich peanut sauce, each bite was a delightful mix of savory and slightly sweet flavors. To accompany my meal, I chose the Thai Longan Drink. This sweet and refreshing beverage was a perfect complement to the spicy flavors of the food. The subtle sweetness of the longan fruit made it incredibly refreshing, and it was a nice way to cleanse the palate between dishes. I also enjoyed the cold Thai milk tea, which was wonderfully aromatic and creamy. The blend of strong tea and sweetened condensed milk was perfectly balanced, making it a satisfying drink that paired well with the richness of the meal. It was a delightful way to cool down, and I found myself savoring each sip. For dessert, I couldn't resist the mango sticky rice. The sticky rice was perfectly cooked, providing a chewy texture that complemented the sweet, ripe mango slices. Drizzled with coconut cream, this classic Thai dessert was indulgent yet refreshing, making it a perfect ending to the meal. Lastly, I indulged in the Thai pandan ice cream, which was a delightful surprise. Made with real coconut slices, the ice cream was creamy and fragrant, with the unique flavor of pandan shining through. Served in a crispy ice cream cone with a side of coconut jelly, this dessert was not only delicious but also beautifully presented.

This hidden gem is amazing! The interior is compact and local Thai street style. Even I arrived early, still taking long to queue. I tried the Wagyu boat noodle $98 and Thai iced tea. $38 The soup of boat noodle is so delicious! It is so rich in taste and with perfect balance of sweetness and spicy! The wagyu beef is so soft and tender! And it is not too fatty. The meat balls are bouncy and tasty, with a bit crispy deep fried pork skin, yummy! And the noodles is smooth, it absorbs the rich soup, I love it a lot! Thai tea is creamy and cool! With right amount of milk and the Thai tea is sweet and smooth, it goes well with the spicy noodle, thank u!

Wagyu beef boat noodle - broth is great, rich but not too salty. Rice noodles and beef greatly match and give a perfect balance. Thai coco nut ice cream also gives great surprise. Nuts and jelly upgrade and give extra texture to this dessert. Seats tight. Line up around 15mins which is acceptable. A bit pricy, it would be great if price go down $10-20 per dish.

We had lunch here and it was quite busy when we arrived so we queued for about 20minutes. It was a warm day so the staff set up a cooling fan, which is a nice touch. We also got ourselves water from the 7-11 across the road. Once inside, we ordered (1) pad Thai with prawns; and (2) wagyu beef boat noodles. The pad Thai dish comes with three prawns, so the dish is adequate for one person (if not sharing) but may need an extra dish like morning glory. We also enjoyed the wagyu boat noodles, the broth is very tasty. We would come here again.

Went on a Thursday night and there was a long queue - had to wait about 20-30 minutes. When we got inside, there were a number of empty tables, which suggested to me they were purposefully making people wait for tables outside to make it look busier outside. Perhaps it’s also to help the kitchen manage all the orders but I’d much rather be seated earlier and waiting for food rather than standing on the street. The menu has all the staples you would expect in a Thai restaurant with boat noodles, Thai basil fried pork with rice, pad thai, pad see ew and pad kee mao. Also saw some classic drinks like thai milk tea and mango sticky rice on the dessert menu. We ordered the thai boat noodles with wagyu beef and pad thai with prawns. The food was brought out very quickly and it was delicious (esp the pad Thai) but the portions were very small given the price (we ended up going elsewhere for a second dinner). Both inside and outside, they’ve decorated the place with Halloween decorations given it’s October and the vibe inside is buzzing especially for a weekday night. It is cash only - no octopus, VISA/Mastercard, AlipayHK or wechat pay available.

PLEASE EXPECT AT LEAST 100 MINUTES WAITING TIME. 👍🏻fried noodles is very good! MUST EAT 👍🏻young coconut is fresh 👍🏻atmosphere is nice 👎🏻arrived at 8:10 waited until 9:40 to be seated, L/O at 9:50. Even you request the dessert later, they will serve with main dishes. Dining time is only 45 mins from seated to leave. Average spending is $350 per person. Believe you can find better options outside. 👎🏻you have to queue in line to get tables, no bookings allowed (except you book 2 months in advance, but they claimed that they don’t accept bookings now and they opened only one month ago, I don’t know how that group of people could book it 2 months in advance?) 👎🏻a lot of dishes have been sold out, should have informed in advance 👎🏻very crowded, hot environment, especially if you are sitting next to the door, they won’t close the door even tho you reminded 3 times) 👎🏻staff is quite messy, not attentive, you have to ordered 3 times to get your drink. Perhaps they will get better later 👎🏻cash only, no liquor license 👎🏻coconut ice cream tasted like vanilla Definitely can pay a visit for the fried flat noodles if it’s not crowded later
