Pop Pop Is Launching a ‘Pizza Lab’ at Seattle’s Northlake Tavern | Eater Seattle

"A Ballard restaurant that had been in business for 38 years; it closed last month when the building it occupied went up for sale, but owner Vhanthip “Nancy” Bhokayasupatt was able to secure a loan to buy the building herself. As a result, the restaurant is coming back in the same location and will reopen Wednesday, May 14, to the delight of its regulars." - Harry Cheadle

It has been a while since we have been here and has gone downhill. Mediocre at best and with so many good Thai food options in the area, will skip it next time. 👎 Prices are high and when they bring your dish, they make it look larger by putting it on a bed of lettuce (we did not order salads). 👎 They charge for rice, which does not come with dishes. 👎The tea service is just a bag of tea (not brewed) and overpriced. 👉I was told the garlic chicken did taste good, but my eggplant was mediocre and up-charge to add tofu. 👍 Service was the best part, our server was responsive and nice. 👍 Small parking lot available. 👉1-4 rating for heat. We went 2, but it was too mild for me. But they did bring various sides of chillis when requested.

Been in the hood forever, staff is so kind, portions are huge, careful 3 star (out of 4) is VERY spicy! Mango sticky pudding is delicious!

Google
The food is wonderful and the service is very warm and friendly. The decor is a little older, but very cozy. They have their own parking lot, which I appreciate, especially on a rainy day.

Google
Absolutely great food, service, and atmosphere. You will find dishes on the menu that you can’t find at other Thai restaurants! If you come out, you need to give those unique dishes a try. We had and recommend the: Tom Kha, Angel Wings, On Top of The World, Phad Thai, and Bread Pudding. We ordered 5 dishes and loved them all. Couldn’t recommend this place more!!!

Google
This was the best Thai food I have ever eaten! The flavors were bright and fresh. We completely enjoyed the Crispy Garlic Chicken, the Phad Thai, Chicken Fried Rice and especially the Thia Siam Curry Noodles. Our servers were attentive and kind helping us make decisions about what to order. They were kind when my grandson was a little fussy and even boxed up our leftovers for us. I will definitely make an effort to eat here again.

Went to Thai Siam House for dinner with family. It's a go to for my at least every two weeks. We found the staff to very friendly and attentive to our needs. The food quality was excellent - very delicious indeed. All of overate and had to go out for a decent walk after that. We will definitely go back again. Following is the food we ordered. King A La Carte Beef sauteed with ginger, mushrooms, peppers and onions Chicken Delight Chicken sauteed with onions, bell pepper and dressing with cashew nuts Shrimp Fries Rice shrimp with rice, eggs, onions, peas and carrots

Google
Amazing flavorful Thai dishes. We love the flavor and perfect texture of the pad Thai. Watch out for that spice level. A two is more like a three, and three was almost too hot (and I like spicy). Wonderfully nice staff and cute miniature display by the entrance. We like to try new places, but we have been here several times.

Google
This restaurant is situated in a quaint standalone house with its own parking lot on a busy street, and the ambiance exuded warmth and coziness. The staff were incredibly friendly, accommodating, and efficient. Although the food was beautifully presented, the flavors were merely average—neither exceptional nor disappointing. Had the flavors been more remarkable, I would have easily rated them a 4.5 or even 5 stars. However, due to this aspect, I have to settle on giving them a rating of 3.5 stars.

Yelp
The Pad Thai was perfectly balanced. The noodles had just the right texture, soft with a little bit of chew, and the sauce hit every flavor note. It was savory, slightly sweet, had a nice tang from the tamarind, and just the right amount of heat to keep things interesting without being too spicy. You could really taste how fresh everything was. The bean sprouts were crisp, the green onions added a nice bite, and the crushed peanuts and squeeze of lime brought it all together with a great mix of crunch and brightness. There are plenty of protein options. I went with the chicken and it was grilled perfectly--tender, juicy, and full of flavor. You can tell the kitchen puts care into every dish. This is the kind of Pad Thai that makes you pause for a second mid-bite just to appreciate how good it is. It feels comforting and familiar but also a little elevated. Nothing greasy or heavy, just really well done. Whether you're a regular when it comes to Thai food or trying it out for the first time, this place is absolutely worth a visit. The Pad Thai alone will have you planning your next trip back.

Yelp
Cute neighborhood spot in north Ballard with lovely decor and super friendly staff! Huge shoutout to the owners for giving back to the community and providing meals for the less fortunate during the winter holidays. That said, the food was ok but not great. The crispy garlic basil chicken was very dry - either over-fried or the chicken was really old. It also had no garlic flavor to it and basically just tasted like dry chicken soaked in honey. The pad thai was fine but nothing special (you could get similar quality and greater quantity for less elsewhere). The papaya salad was the standout of the meal - crunchy, sweet, and savory with plenty of peanuts. Overall, I probably wouldn't go back for the food but I appreciate what they do for the community so I'm adding an additional star.

Yelp
Came here for dinner and got the pad see ew and fried rolls. The pad see ew was pretty good and the noodles were flavorful and sauce went well with everything. The fried rolls were just okay, not super special. Was pretty busy though when I came and there's usually a wait.

Yelp
I think there could've been other good things on this menu but reading the description of this dish enticed me. I like the duck but not the other ingredients like pineapple or the lychee and the ratio was off with not so much duck, given that it was around $23. Service was really fast since we ate when there was 30 minutes so shoutout to the amazing servers and chef!! I like the small restaurant and would probably get something different!
google avatar

Yelp
My review is based solely on the "Pick up" experience. We ordered the Chicken Red Curry and Basil Lover. Both were average--neither great nor terrible. The "4-star hot" level was not spicy at all. The portion of the red curry was smaller, but the basil portion was just right. Overall, it was an average experience. Would I order it again? Probably not.

Yelp
I was so happy when I found this place while looking for dinner. It was so good that I came twice during my 3 day stay here in Seattle. The pad thai was amazing as it was sweet, sour, saucy and the noodles were chewy. I got the pad Thai both times. The pad see ew was good too and definitely something I would try again. Everything else we ordered from the menu was still out of the world with flavor and the portions were big. If I'm ever back in the Seattle area, I will definitely come back!

Yelp
A ballard classic. So glad it managed to stay. This has been my neighborhood Thai place for decades.

Yelp
I do not care what anyone says, this place is phenomenal, I've been coming here for YEARS. YEARS. It is authentic, so beautiful inside, and so insanely delicious. People complain about how spicy it is, but that is how you know it is good. You don't have to get spicy at all, but they know how to do both, and WELL. 10/10.
google avatar

Bonnie N.

Yelp
Beware - I asked about an extra charge on the bill and was told it was a service fee. They don't label any items on the bill - they just put prices - so it looks like it is another food item. When I asked if the fee goes to the servers as a tip I couldn't get a direct answer. Most people won't notice they are charging a special fee since it's not labeled. Nothing is printed on the menu or the website about the fee. That is dishonest! Food was so-so. Interior and decor really needs an update.

Yelp
We get takeout every flew weeks and are pleased with the results. Autumn curry is delish! We love the fresh rolls! Yummy lychee lime drinks are always refreshing! Phad see sew w Chicken is the kids go to and they can make it gluten free with tamari.

Yelp
Just had an amazing dinner as always here! I've been going for a long time and the crispy garlic chicken is a must have with a Thai iced tea of course! It's absolutely heavenly

Yelp
Hands down the best thai food and family like service. I have been coming here with my grandma Helen and Papa John for almost 30 years. I drive an hour because nothing compares. The stars do get spicy, so we stick with a one star. The #10 soup is outstanding and the #28 chicken delight is heavenly.
google avatar

Genae G.

Yelp
Best Thai food I've ever tasted! The flavor was so good! Also the Thai iced coffee was amazing as well. Had the Phad Thai and I'm very impressed! 10/10 highly recommend! Service was good too! I'm a tough critic and had to leave a positive review bc the food was that good!

Yelp
Thai Siam has been my go-to spot for years, the service is excellent and the food is so comforting and nourishing. An absolute neighborhood treasure!

Yelp
I am into the second decade coming here for food and it's been quite awhile. Props for all they do to give back to the community. They give back a lot and have done so for years. The food is still solid and I still have my favorites. I can't even tell you how many different people I have dined here with. Here is to a third decade, which is coming up quickly.
google avatar

KC B.

Yelp
Best Thai food in the neighborhood and it's not even close. The spice level can be a little inconsistent but it's always fantastic. Huge menu with lots of vegetarian options. We get takeout a lot but eating there is even better. The service is great, I love the ambiance, and their charity work is inspiring.

Yelp
My cousin from out of state order our dinner from here tonight. WE love Thai Siam! Food has always been so yummy! Customers for over 18 years. Still delicious but smaller portions which is so upsetting. I am going through Chemotherapy second time around and was looking forward to my red curry chicken!! It was half the size container For the price of food, It was not worth it for getting less food. Especially when I was at chemotherapy all day long. I was hungr tonight and so was my family. I am not sure why they are cutting back on their size containers. Upset but will think about coming back as we live now in Woodinville, WA and Thai Siam is located in Ballard, WA about a 30 minute drive. Staff has always been nice to me and courteous.

Yelp
We went here for lunch on a weekday. It wasn't busy and we were seated immediately. We were given a complimentary salad and water. We ordered our food and we were asked about our preferred level of spice (1-4). We love spicy food, but opted for a level 3, to be sure. We got chicken satay, phad see-iw, yum gai, and the fire breathing dragon shrimps. Everything was good and spicy. The place is a bit tiny and dark, but food is great.
google avatar

Krista Rene N.

Yelp
Came here with a few friends and it was pretty decent. The pad Thai wasn't dry and had a good balance of sweet and tangy. The yellow curry could have used a little more flavor and the potatoes were raw, but overall it was pretty good. We also got fried tofu with peanut sauce which was surprisingly very good. The prices are fair for the area, and it looks like it's even more fair during lunch. Will definitely be back for lunch!

Walter P.

Yelp
Enjoyed 'Tofu Superb' and 'Pad Thai with Chicken' last night -- both excellent and, together, a perfect combination. And the friendly woman at the door when I came to pick it up was welcoming and friendly.
google avatar

Michael B.

Yelp
Spring rolls were tiny and virtually flavorless. The pad Thai is pretty bland and the chicken is dry. No lime too. I used to order from here more regularly but probably won't be back. Bummer!
google avatar

Ashley W.

Yelp
We love this place!! Food and service are fantastic!! Best Thai we've in Seattle! It's also kid friendly which is a plus since we've eliminated many of our favorite Seattle places since becoming parents.

Kee G.

Yelp
We went to celebrate an engagement with our family. Food & service were excellent. The dessert called "Double Happiness" put a smile on everyone's face. Price is reasonable, portions were big. That is why ThaiSiam has been here for 37 years.
google avatar

Tamar B.

Yelp
We tried the pad Thai here recently and it was excellent, lots of flavor without being overly sweet. Looking forward to trying some other dishes.

Yelp
Another Hole in wall with great eats try the Fresh rolls with 2 sauces @$7.95 and the Siam Phad.Thai @$13.95 with choice of meat-- not.too much and not too little -just right --inside nice.ambiance parking on the side disregard the construction they're open for.business enjoy-chèers.al

Yelp
Great flavor, surprising amount of kick (3 star out of 4) and really cool decor inside the restaurant. Ordered the Thai curry noodle which was fantastic. Green curry with chicken and chewy noodles really hit the spot. Definitely recommend this place.
google avatar

Colin R.

Yelp
I recently moved to the neighborhood and have been looking for my new Thai food spot. I've been here twice now and so far it's hitting all the marks. First off, the restaurant is run by family and you can feel the love they have for the place. Both the food and the service will keep me coming back. Nothing but smiles from the staff and my water glass kept full. The prices are very reasonable and If you decide to order spicy they deliver! Today I had cashew delight and it was on point. The chicken and veggies were cooked perfectly and the sauce was delicious and balanced. I highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Yelp
Quick, friendly service. Food always comes out hot and fresh. Cozy ambiance eating in, and it's quickly become my go-go place for take out! The Thai green curry is consistently delicious, and I enjoy the pad see ew.

Pa M.

Yelp
I don't know how this place has such high rating. We ordered spice level 2 and it's so spicy, tasted like 4/4. We couldn't eat the food at all.

Tom R.

Yelp
Our favorite Thai food restaurant. Favorite dishes: Autumn In My Heart and Tamarind Beef.
google avatar

Shannon P.

Yelp
Best Pad Thai around!! Love that they provide meals for less fortunate around holidays time. Great neighborhood restaurant.
google avatar

Cindy N.

Yelp
clean and inviting ambience, looks to be more of a takeout spot however. Food was quick, took 20 min. Portion sizes were generous relative to the prices, however found the flavors to be subpar. Would skip the fried rice (rice was mush, not great flavor), pad see ew was not your typical and had a more complex flavor - also not my favorite. The pad Thai wasn't the best I've had but good enough for the price and convenience! Got medium spice level and that was plenty
google avatar

Sandy W.

Yelp
Always good and servings are very generous. We love the Phad Thai. Service is fast and although prices have increased they seem to be in line with most other restaurants.

Yelp
I had heard a lot of positive comments about Thai Siam, not only about their tasty food, but also about the support they give to the community, so I had to finally try it on a lazy Sunday. First of all, this place has parking, which is a huge plus in Seattle, easy parking too. Location is very convenient and easy to access as well. I have only gotten takeout, but the place is definitely cozy to sit down and eat there. When I called they were busy taking calls, but still my order was ready in less than 20 minutes. I ordered the angel wings and chicken fried rice and it was all delicious, and huge portions so I have enough for lunch and dinner tomorrow as well. I haven't been to Thailand yet, but this was great for thai takeout here in the US. What surprised me was getting the thai tea bottled instead of the usual to go cup, but then turns out it's locally bottled for Thai Siam, and the proceeds of it go to local charities; also, the bottled thai tea comes with more tea as it's not full of ice, win! TLDR: try this place, it has tasty food and supports the community
google avatar

Meg L.

Yelp
My favorite Thai place in the Seattle area! They had good tom yum soup with shrimp that comes in a boiling pot! The lemon grass flavor stands out and I will definitely get this again. Pad Thai was not too special but the spicy factor is no joke! Even the one will make you cry if you aren't used to Thai spices. Will recommend trying the lowest level possible first.
google avatar

Yelp
Thai Siam is a solid option for your Thai food cravings. It has become my go-to if I'm in the area. Ample on-site parking spots. Menu is very extensive to the point I wish they would simplify it. With that said, you can pretty much find almost every single Thai dish you can name. Here's a few that I had: *Thai Siam Curry Noodle Thai noodle in creamy green curry. Really good! Noodle cooked well and the flavor of the curry really shone through. Ordered it with 3 out of 4 stars spiciness level to give it a spice kick! *Crispy Garlic Chicken It was flavorful! The breading and choice of sauce were slightly distinct from other similar dishes I've had but the flavor profile was spot on. *The Fire Breathing Dragon Shrimps This immediately caught my attention as it has the warning on the menu: "eat at your own risk, no refund." Being an avid spicy food addict that I am, I was totally up for the challenge!!! The server warned me multiple times and I reassured her I was sane and ready to devour the dish. Sauteed prawn in fiery garlic sauce accompanied by aromatic coconut rice. Everything was seasoned to perfection! It was definitely spicy but not the spiciest food I've had. However, absolutely not for the faint of heart. The overall flavor, how should I put it? Tasty AF! Licked it clean down to the last bits of chilli pepper. The server told me only a handful of people were able to finish it, proud of myself =P. In the end, my mouth might've taken it well, but my gut betrayed me.. Bathroom trip was inevitable (whoops TMI). I also found out they hold annual benefit dinner in August and the proceeds are donated to "Union Gospel Mission" and "Cancer Lifeline" in Seattle as well as "Think Small" and "Foundation for the Blind" in Thailand. They've been doing it since 1988! They also provide free meal for those in need during Christmas day. Hats off to you Thai Siam! Not only does this local business make good food, but also give back to the community! Proud supporter here. Check it out!

Yelp
Loved this cute place! Of the few Thai restaurants I've tried in the neighborhood, this is by far my favorite! The food was delicious, service was great, and the interior is cute. Would def go back here!

Yelp
TDLR: get dessert and try a drink. Food is very fresh! Dimly but comfortably lit. Menu items are a little on the pricey side. Large menu with lots of options. Dessert and drink menu displayed on table. Check it out! Service: wait to be seated, order at table, check brought to table, leftovers will be boxed for you. Fresh Rolls: I'm impressed by the freshness of this. The veggies in the rolls were very crisp! They do contain cilantro for those of you who aren't a fan. The plum sauce is very good. I'm also a fan of the thin vermicelli noodles. Peanut sauce is on the average side for me. If you want really good peanut sauce go to Chaiyo Thai. Satay: the chicken ok by itself--not much flavor--so you really gotta use that peanut sauce. Cucumber salad was very fresh and tangy but there is very little of it. Tip: don't inhale with your mouth when you take a bite--the vinegar will exorcise your throat of any and all vermin if you do! Siam Pad Thai: typical pad Thai but a lot of it. Got zero spice and was pleased. Pork slices were pretty generous--the noodle to meat ratio was acceptable; you know how some places totally skimp out on the goods? This place didn't seem to. Tropical Sundae: sticky rice was very good, mango slices were refreshing and had a nice tang to the soft sweetness, coconut whip cream was tasty, coconut ice cream had a frozen slushee texture and tasted "ok"--was expecting it to be creamier.

Yelp
I called for a take out on a lazy day . This portions are big ! And delicious food . They are also organized and quick !:-)

Yelp
My go to is steak salad. Three XXX which is pretty spicy! Not huge and calorie count pretty low. But I love it. I don't drive so I have a friend deliver to me three- four a week. Addicting. So good. Spring rolls and egg rolls good too. I'm happy with the salads so pretty much stick with them. .

Yelp
This review is for takeout. I'm a self-proclaimed "pad Thai" snob, as I've tried it from a ton of local places around downtown, Ballard, and Greenwood, and this is BY FAR the best I've had. Sauce is incredibly authentic, and not at all sweet like a lot of other spots (I've tasted some that are almost like sweet and sour sauce... very weird). A ton of veggies, noodles, and meat/tofu. Portion: You get a ton of food. This is almost always two meals for me. Spices: I stick to 1-2 stars; the two star has a pretty good kick to it. Pricing: ~$11 per dish, so it's very comparable to other areas. Plus, I think the portions are way bigger than most places. Parking: There is a parking lot, but I will warn it's a bit cramped and people park at strange angles. I prefer street parking personally. Calling in: I usually don't have any issues getting ahold & placing an order, but there have been a handful of times the line is completely busy. Considering how good this spot is, though, I understand how busy they get! Pick-up: the front area can get a little congested, but the line moves pretty quickly if people show up at the right time for their orders.

A S.

Yelp
This place is lovely! They are my go to for take out. Always delicious! Always friendly and fast and, the family that owns it gives back to the local community. Support this gem!!

Yelp
This review is for takeout. I ordered the Top of the World Beef ($11), Special Hot Pork ($14), Green Curry Chicken ($12). Portion sizes were good for the price. The food quality was great and the taste of everything was amazing. The Beef is so soft, tender, and juicy. It comes with a sauce that adds a little acidity to the meat and it's soooo good. The Special Hot Pork is like a red curry with pork and potatoes. The Green Curry Chicken (coconut and creamy flavor) and the Hot Pork (heavier and meatier flavor) were both amazing in flavor and go great with some rice. I got level 2 spicy and it was perfect. Not too hot, but definitely gave me a little kick. I would highly recommend all 3 dishes and I will definitely be back to try their other items.
google avatar

Yelp
a lot of the noodle options from the "Vegetarian menu" definitely contain fish sauce. super fishy and definitely is NOT vegetarian. I think they need to google what vegetarian means lol

Yelp
One of the best Thai food restaurant in northern Seattle area. They are not only provide yummy food, but also actively participate in social impacting events. Recommend their beef frank Curry.

Yelp

Yelp
I love Thai Siam. Grew up in SF where some of the best Thai food is, happy to find Thai Siam. Some of our family of four favorite dishes are: Fresh Rolls, with chili and peanut sauce always super fresh Noodle and the Rama with perfectly spiced with rich peanut flavor. Pad Thai of course Top of The World-bbq beef dish (my kids favorite) Basil lovers -peppers and basil are the highlights of this dish I get with ground chicken Lemon Grass Chicken-refreshing salad like dish, wonderful on a hot day.
