This was our first time at Thai Town in Elgin. It’s a cute, cozy little restaurant with an authentic feel, and the service was very fast, which we appreciated. We tried the chicken Pad Thai and the beef Pad See Ew. Unfortunately, we weren’t impressed with either dish. The Pad Thai was overwhelmed by sauce, masking the other flavors, and both meals left us feeling unusually tired afterward—possibly due to a heavy use of MSG. While the ambiance and service were great, the food just didn’t hit the mark for us.

Google
BAD. I Ordered pad woon sen with shrimp and shiu mai. There’s only 3 shrimp for $18, and all the shrimp smelled rotten. It smelled so bad when I opened it. I tasted it and it was so bad I had to throw it out. Disappointing in comparison to the other thai town in sycamore.

Google
What a cute Thai restaurant with friendly service! Ordered myself Rad Nha dish and it was yummy. If you’re around the neighborhood, this is a highly recommended spot to check out for quick Thai food fix!

Came in for the lunch special pad thai. Delicious. Absolutely great food quality and taste. One of those experiences where you're like "dam* I'm going to leave a review". Crab rangoons were good too.

Google
I rarely will post about a bad experience in a restaurant because we worked in the business and understand it could just be a bad day... I have to share a horrible experience with Thai Town in South Elgin. We wanted to try something new and trust me we will not go that route again. Called the order in for pick up and was told it would be ready in 20 minutes, went it took another 35 minutes waiting. We ordered 2 pad Thai meals, sesame chicken meal and an order of calamari. While I was there the kids wanted the soda with the tapioca( which I thought would be maybe a few dollars 5.00 a piece). I was handed a tiny bag and pulled up a screen to tip her 9.00 or more on the meal I was picking up, they would deliver for 6.00. We are all for tipping but really... I did tip 3.00 like a fool.. The drinks the kids threw out because they said it tasted like bleach. Charged 9.95 we were given literally 8 calamari. They told my son when he questioned why it was so small that calamari is expensive??? We came home and I was just so disgusted and showed my husband so he called the owner got on the phone and he explained to her that he wanted half our money back because it was so bad. She said bring it all back and we said fine we will be right there ( it was terrible). The son called before we left screaming "How dare you talk to my mother that way and my husband said I was very nice to your mother but I am very very dissatisfied with your service and food. The son said keep the food and fight your bank, I will not give you back your money!!! They said they have to feed their family and could not give a refund to us and my husband said he was simply trying to feed his family and it was unacceptable food and service. The 8 calamari were literately rubber bands dipped in breading served with a watered down sweet and sour sauce..... Longest post I have ever written... Wish I would have read the Yelp and Google Reviews First!!!! Pictures will not post but will upload if I can so you can decide for yourself..

Google
I have been to many many thai restaurants. This place has the best tom yam and pad kee mao!! The cook/ the owner is a 65 year old thai woman, just so lovely. Definely come back.

Google
This place was one of the WORST Thai places I have ever eaten for the first time! I ordered Basil Fried Rice with Jumbo Shrimp for a whopping $18.69!!! First of all, the rice was soaked in some sort of oil when I opened the container I wanted to throw up. The rice was so damn soggy and stuck together like mashed potatoes. There was no taste or flavor, just wet, tasteless, soggy rice in some strange oil!! Wtf happened to the damn flavor? I specifically and very carefully explained to the non-English speaking order taker over the telephone how to prepare my dish. I asked her to repeat it back to me twice! PLEASE 🙏🏽 DO NOT waste your money, like I did at this place or you will be so sadly disappointed. I am so pissed off that I wasted my hard-earned money on this hole-in-a-wall establishment! Never again will I ever return! Damn! I should have canceled my order when I walked in the door and there were no customers in the restaurant nor did I smell the aroma of good-smelling food being prepared. Run, fast from this place! Save your coins 💰.

Yelp
Ordered Cashew Shrimp (upcharge) and as tasty as it was I won't be ordering again with only 4 shrimp. I don't know what an acceptable amount of shrimp would be, but it's not 4. This would not fill up an adult's an entree. I'd say at a minimum 6 but probably 8 for the price. Ground Chicken Basil Leaves is delicious but VERY spicy and it doesn't even mention spicy in description (there are ground chili peppers so a kick was expected).

Yelp
This is our go to restaurant for "Great Thai" several times per week. We can always count on consistent Thai food, no matter what we order. This is a hidden gem in South Elgin, that I hope never changes.

Yelp
Came across this restaurant on the whim and I was pleasantly surprised by their food and prices. I ordered delivery, so I can't speak on the dine in experience, but food was packaged well and came warm. I thought overall the portion sizes were generous for the low prices. I ordered pad eggplant, pad Thai, and pad khee mao, all including a protein of choice. Food was overall slightly blander than most, but I prefer food that's less salty!
google avatar

Christine R.

Yelp
Delicious food and I continue to try different dishes. All curry dishes are top notch. It seems to be a possible family business and the food is better when the more experienced chef(s) prepare the food. Service with a warm smile too.
google avatar

Yelp
The owner/staff there are always really friendly! The food comes out piping hot and they never skimp on your dish. I come here with my sister almost once every week cause their pad thai is so good, great in both spicy and regular. I've also had their crab meat fried rice and I give it a 9/10!! I've been eating at thai town for a few months and I keep coming back. I highly highly recommend their pad thai!

Yelp
This is mostly a take out place but they do have 3 tables inside and a couple more outside. Parties over 4 persons cannot dine in. We did dine in and it is very cute and cozy with great service. The food was delicious and I believe very authentic. No alcohol is served here but they have a wide variety of delicious smoothies along with soft drinks and Thai standards. Our group went with the smoothies and everyone enjoyed them.

Jim F.

Yelp
Absolutely the best chicken pad Thai. Also enjoy the crab Rangoon's and pot stickers. Food always fresh and delicious. The staff there is awesome. Good ol grandma always working in the kitchen

Yelp
On Google, it does say they open at 12pm on Sunday. But it turned out the opening hour is at 11:30am, as on other weekdays. It looks like a sweet "mom and pop" style restaurant. They have a cute garden and little tables outside and inside. The lady in the entrance was friendly. Our orders: Drink Ramune soda Thai iced coffee Entree Green curry (rice dish) Pad Lard Nar (wide noodle dish) Ramune was refreshing, I liked the plain one. Thai iced coffee - 5 stars It looks a little cheap in the plastic cup, but the coffee itself had a really strong and bitter punch! Also sweetness and thick cream balance the flavor really well. I loved it. Very refreshing drink in early afternoon. Green curry - 5 stars I have carried a craving for Thai green curry for a few months. This order absolutely satisfied my expectation. It was not super spicy. First, it felt very gentle, but the herbs and coconut flavor piled up as I went on. Especially fresh Thai basil and mint leaves randomly show up in my mouth, which pleasantly surprised me. And the best part of this dish was eggplant. It melt in your mouth like very-well-cooked pork, and changed the flavor mixing with the sauce. Pad Lard Nar - 5 stars I have never had or heard of this name before. But this ended up being the meal of the day! They used thick sticky rice noodles. I think they deep-fried (maybe stir fried in high temperature oil?) the noodle then put them into their special sauce. So that created crunchy texture outside and soft inside. A lot of vegetables inside too. We tried vegetarian style this time, but you can choose a protein for texture too. Very much recommended! So my total experience here was 5 stars. If you wanna try some Thai dishes which are not too spicy. You can find great products with various flavors here!

Yelp
i absolutely love the pad see ew and the seating and preparation is nice. i love dining in here with my family on the weekends

Kathy L.

Yelp
Great food a bit pricey but well worth it. We did pick up and were very happy with the freshness

Jeremy T.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible. Will never go back. The onions in the fried rice were not even cooked and the dish had no flavor. The beef in the curry noodle dish was grey. Could not even eat more then 2 bites

Richard S.

Yelp
The Pad Thai was really good and they were priced average for the amount they give you

Adrian R.

Yelp
Ordered their Mongolian beef lunch special. Came out to like $14. Opened it up and it was the smallest portion I've ever gotten from any place. Looked like a kids meal.

Yelp
This place has great food, everything Ive had has been great. They are always nice and the place looks cool and has a nice ambiance.
google avatar

Michael L.

Yelp
Take out only. Very real authentic Thai food. The nice, elderly ladies cook everything from scratch!!!

Meredith C.

Yelp
Ordered carry out. Crab Rangoon and egg rolls were great. The two of us each got pad Thai and paid $2 extra for shrimp as our protein. We both only got four shrimp in our bowls. No veges or even a green onion.

Yelp
We favor the small business so we went to Thai Town. The food was good but the portions were small and asking for water I was given bottled water and charged $2.25. I get that it costs them to serve water but give me the news when I order not surprises. No one likes surprises. The outside was messy with flower pots and other items strewn about. Perhaps it wasn't fully put away from last fall but it does make an impression regardless.

Bryan F.

Yelp
Very good food, clean restaurant, and very friendly service. We had the Pad Thai and Chicken Satay with Spring Rolls, all very delicious and a very reasonable price. We will definitely be back.

Laura M.

Yelp
Everyone stop ordering from this place! I haven't ordered in a while & they have cut their containers in half! Charging more for less. Even the large soup containers are smaller. The Tom Kha was more like onion soup. I get things cost more these days but this was truly ridiculous. When you pay for a gallon of gas you're not paying more for less! Do better Thai Town. You're a rip off!! I will never order from you again.
google avatar

Lauren E.

Yelp
Fabulous food! 4 stars only because portion size was a bit small for the price. I got crab fried rice which was savory and delicious but not greasy and the pad see ew with chicken which was seasoned just right. I will definitely be ordering again soon!
google avatar

Matt M.

Yelp
So delicious! Love supporting local and would be a 5 though I feel prices went up and portions went down with the pandemic, I could see one but not both.
google avatar

Bonnie B.

Yelp
The crab fried rice is a household favorite. The green and panang curries are also pretty darn tasty. You can tell that this restaurant is pretty authentic and has been around for a long time.
google avatar

Daniel C.

Yelp
Delicious food! Wonderful service! I would definitely recommend this place if you like authentic Thai food.
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
Ordered some moo ping, egg rolls, chicken pad woon sen and beef mongolian. All was very tasty and highly recommend Thai Town.

B W.

Yelp
Very pricey for the portion sizes. Lobby was dirty. I loved this place when it was on Randall rd. I won't be back. There are better Thai restaurants in the area. Ta Wan Thai Restaurant at Algonquin Commons is very good.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this small, family-owned place! Very authentic and delicious Thai food, which isn't easy to find in the suburbs. If you're looking for a place to try some good Pad Thai noodles for the first time, this is the place! Their Thai soups and appetizers are also very tasty! I think I ordered from this place every other week during 2020, because 1. I love Thai food and 2. I wanted to support family owned small businesses as much as possible. I notice that a lot of the negative reviews on these sites are from people expecting Chinese food or thinking that all "Asian" food is the same. Thai food is a unique and delicious cuisine on its own, and nothing like Chinese food. You wouldn't order a taco at McDonald's just because they had it on the menu, right? Try some of the amazing Thai dishes that they have here and see if your opinions change! :)
google avatar

Dude M.

Yelp
The food is tasty, we did take out of multiple dishes. All were flavorful and well prepared. But the portion size was small relative to the price of each dish. A little disappointing on the value.

Yelp
Placed order with Door dash from this restaurant. I placed an order for three items and two items were wrong. I ordered Tom Kha with shrimp and paid extra for it. Instead I received it with chicken. I ordered Panang Noodles and received a chicken mixed with peppers with a small box of rice on the side. It definitely was not panang noodles. When I called the restaurant, the lady on the phone was extremely rude and said she can't do anything. Then she told me to come over to get corrected item's. I can not drive. I am on a very strong pain medication due to very serious illness. I can not drive. That was the main reason why the order was placed with Door Dash. She then told me she will refund $2 and hang up. Please do not ever order from this place. So sad how they treat their customers. I will never ever order from this place again. Hopefully, my review will be useful for other customers in making their choices.

Yelp
There were a few things to take in account on why I am reviewing this. I give this place 2 stars and that's being generous and me being a small business owner myself. I always support small businesses especially during the pandemic. First thing is I ordered Pad lard Na, A wide noodle dish with broccoli and beef and brown gravy. Instead I received pad Thai. The pad Thai was ok not too much meat but there's peanuts in there and my boyfriend could not eat it cause he is ALLERGIC The packaging was not good. I ordered soup, curry, noodle dish and chicken satay with two box of rice. Everything was shoved in one bag and some of the soup spilled. All over the bag and the napkins were soaked. I didn't report to Uber eats right away instead I called the restaurant and talked to a woman to see what we can do. I expressed that I got the wrong order and she basically told me there was nothing she was going to do for my troubles because the owners were not there. She also got a little sassy and asked me what I would want her to do... She didn't apologize, just offered to make a new one but said I would have to pick the order up. Uber eats was made for A reason .. I am not driving no where if I pay extra to have or delivered. I just took the loss. On a positive note the item I did like are the yellow curry. For a suggestion please be kind to your patrons because that is the main reason someone will even come to yeleven write this long of a review.. kindness matters

Dan K.

Yelp
Located in back of a strip mall on McLean blvd, this place is a real gem when you want carry-out. Tonight we had chicken pepper, sweet and sour shrimp. And. Egg rolls. The chicken dish was loaded with sliced chicken and fresh vegetables in a savory sauce that was good enough to drink. The sweet sour shrimp had ample jumbo shrimp and bits of just the right amount of vegies and pineapple. The egg rolls were crisp and done just right. It was, in sum, a terrific meal. If you are in the area, and even if you have to drive a bit, isn't great Thai food worth it?

Yelp
We ordered from them on UberEats. I wish I had read the reviews here before ordering. The food came real quickly which was nice. But.. just exactly as other reviewers mentioned, the portions are small, and barely had any meat in our dishes. They are too cheap that they didn't give us any utensils when we requested for them. Literally just one napkin. We ordered Pad Thai with BARELY any beef. It was decent. Not the best. Not the worst. We also got the Tom Yum soup and it had too much onions! Barely any chicken as well. Then we got the simdum appetizer and pangang (yellow) curry. It was okay, the curry was too watery, almost zero flavors to it. Again, there was barely any chicken. Will never order from them again. They are cheapskates.

Scott L.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the food here. I was a little disappointed at first, the egg rolls and crab rangoon were good, but nothing special. Then I hit the main dishes we ordered. I tried a bit of the sesame chicken, a little pad mixed veggies with beef, and then focused on the Szechuan chicken. The sesame chicken was really tasty, the beef itself was wonderfully delightful, but I thought the highlight of my meal was the Szechuan chicken. What stood out to me is how well the flavor carried through, the meat, veggies, and even rice that I topped with each dish all melded well together to make it incredibly satisfying. This may be the pandemic talking as we haven't eaten out a lot, but mmm-mmm good. Also, they deliver to a pretty broad range which makes it very convenient.

Yelp
Excellent Thai! Love the food here. Never disappointed in the numerous visits. Our new favorite is the Pad Thai w/ground chicken. Very tasty and better with the ground meat. Spring rolls are lovely. Thai iced tea is super. Hard to resist coming every day. I love this place!!! Come here you will be ple

Yelp
My go-to Thai delivery and takeout spot! The food is always excellent and very flavorful. Great portions. The Pad Thai, Fried Rice and Panang Curry are a must!
google avatar

Yelp
Love, love, loved this place! The food is excellent. I am such a foodie and I love my Thai food. This place rivals and beats any place in the city! My new favorite place in south Elgin

L D.

Yelp
Delicious! I have ordered for delivery many times but tonight I dined in. It's small but the food was delicious and the service was fantastic.
google avatar

Jessika B.

Yelp
I have thought every time I eat from here that I'm going to post about them and then I get in food coma and forget. Sooo... I stopped to rate this place a 10/10 and tell y'all if you're in the area or even willing to have consistent flavors bursting with every bite then you must check them out! We've ordered from here now 3 times and every time is just as delicious. The family feel they give you when you walk in their building and moms best recipes put to work (yes mom was back there cooking) is done with such gratitude and appreciation and that to me goes a long way. I no longer search for "just any place" to get Thai food at. This place is always top choice! Thank you for the wonderful meals and always warm welcome.
google avatar

Marilee T.

Yelp
The food was just not good. I had pad Thai thinking how can you mess that up right ??! Wrong ! The sauce was just nothing but sweet and the chicken was thin tough slices that ware tasteless and over cooked. My bf has red curry chicken that smelled foul and was watery and just awful. What a disappointment. Don't do it !
google avatar

Laurie Faith G.

Yelp
In the past they have had excellent quality and delivery, since 2018 everything has changed. Most recent order was thru Uber Eats, instead of calling them direct... not only was the order 30 minutes late and cold, because they made the delivery driver wait 45 minutes, the food was bland and the next day a giant fly was found in one order while preparing to take leftovers to work. Disgusting!!! Never again Thai Town, this makes our family sad as we really enjoyed your restaurant over the years but not the last several months. :(
google avatar

Mean Ny V.

Yelp
Over priced small portions. Sticky rice/rice not included!! Had an order of larb and curry.

Michelle C.

Yelp
I love Thai Town! Their shumai is amazing! One of my favorite appetizers. We also order their Szechuan seafood, crab fried rice, pad Thai, Mongolian beef, beef salad & their Tom kha soup. They're a little expensive for their portions, but it's good. The people who own it and work there are amazing too.

Rebecca P.

Yelp
This business is cheap and only trying to take as much money from you as they can probably because they are just scraping by. I ordered a sweet sticky rice with mango and I got a tiny scoop of over-microwaved rice and half a mango for $9.99. Their lunch portions are very small and the Pad Thai was too sweet. Will never order from here again because it's just a waste of my money. I don't see this business staying open for much longer. I'm sorry Thai Town.
google avatar

Sandy C.

Yelp
Disappointed... I loved this place before but went there today and it was terrible. Not going back.

Laura C.

Yelp
I'll never go back! Not impressed! Everything I ordered was bad! Calamari was soggy! Red curry watered down! Pot stickers overcooked!
google avatar

Kyra C.

Yelp
Really good food but small portions. Make sure to order more! Had the pad see eiw the tofu delicious tasted like chicken.vegetable soup and very tasty shumai!
google avatar

Steve W.

Yelp
Pad Thai is a must, just enough sauce and chicken! Mango, Sticky Rice, And cream sauce is a favorite dessert! Enjoy!

Dom T.

Yelp
Probably one of the worst meals ive ever had. The worst spring rolls I ever tried. What is supposed to be rice wrap around a spring roll, was really thick like a tortilla almost, and the peanut sauce thats supposed to go with it was so weak. The chicken skewers were rubbery and some were completely inedible. By the time I got the skewers they were cold and literally dripped juice from the smaller bag they put the skewers in, into the plastic bag and got everything else drenched in chicken juice which was disgusting. The only thing that was somewhat worth it was the steamed pot stickers and even than I wouldn't order them ever again. Overall awful and would not recommend anyone ever order or eat from here. I wish I could get a full refund. Very unhappy and dissatisfied especially for the price they charged for that lukewarm, unfresh, bland garbage... If you actually think the food here is good you must have the pallet of a Cow. I'd give 0 stars if I could. I wrote the same review here, on Doordash because I am that unhappy and really want to warn everyone to save your money! Only re-downloaded yelp just to review this place. Shameful.
google avatar

Barzeen V.

Yelp
Funky little take out counter that's hidden in the back of a liquor store. Let's start out with the good. Their curry is fantastic. Both the brown and yellow curry I tried were great. I highly recommend the curry puffs appetizer. They're like little curry chicken empanadas. Wifey Poo's peanut shrimp was pretty good too. My pad Thai was good but kinda bland. Definitely nothing interesting about it. The only let downs were the tiny, bland egg rolls (although the sauce was great) and the crab rangoons that were teeeeeeeeny and not so great. I almost ran back out to Tokyo Steak House to get an order of rangoons ( because theirs are amazing).
google avatar

Lucas C.

Yelp
This place is gross. Ordered pad Thai and a bunch of other simple chicken/beef dishes. Nothing is made fresh, no fresh ingredients whatsoever. Stay away
google avatar

Dana F.

Yelp
Amazing food!! Ordered the Tom Kha soup with shrimp and it was the best I've ever had. Then had the chicken salad-delicious! My friends had beef pad se ew and also loved it. Highly recommend!!
