Yelp
I like this place because it's dark and kind of divey and makes me feel like it's still the late 80s in Boston. And it's not "new portland." BUT, recently, a friend and I went there for breakfast. We are two ladies in our 50s. We are not troublemakers. We looked up the hours, since they aren't posted, and saw they opened at 9. We arrived just before 9, and were standing outside chatting, & idly tried the door. It was unlocked, tvs were on, and someone was sitting at a table, so we walked in, figuring it must be open. The guy sitting at a table said they were closed, and I asked what time it was. We all checked our phones, it was 8:57. We asked if my friend could use the restroom quickly, and he said he didn't work there, and went back to reading his paper.
Just then a woman came out of the back and said, "You need to leave," in an icy tone of voice. I asked if my friend could use the restroom, since they would be open in a few minutes. She repeated, "You NEED to leave," advancing towards us, large pots in her hands. We headed towards the door, and she repeated, "YOU NEED TO LEAVE," & locked the door behind us, at least for a minute and a half until she would have to open it again. Service here is spotty, for sure. I've been ignored by bartenders here, as they chatted with other customers, and have rarely been made to feel welcome, which I can live with, but this incident really got to me. Not sure I will go back.
