The Best Portland Sports Bars for Watching Trail Blazers Games | Eater Portland

"A popular Montavilla pub that is more than just a sports bar, Thatchers boasts seven big-screen TVs for ample coverage on stacked sports days, but is just as renowned for an above-average food menu and wealth of bar game options, including pinball, shuffleboard, and three pool tables. Thatchers is typically thick with regulars, and newcomers ordering complicated drinks on busy nights can expect some saltiness from bartenders. Expect things like NFL games, Blazer games, Seattle Mariners games, college football, and global soccer games." - Rebecca Roland

The Best Philly Cheesesteaks in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Thatchers’ outdoor signage boldly claiming it serves “the best cheesesteak in town” might be hyperbole, but it may just offer the best cheesesteak in a neighborhood sports bar. Thin-sliced steak is grilled with onions and then bestowed a blanket of melted white American cheese, all piled on in a traditional Amoroso’s roll. Montavilla denizens looking to catch a Blazers game with a cold one and a cheesesteak, look no further. And for fans of early morning international sports, Thatcher’s is now open at 9 a.m. daily." - Nathan Williams

Google
I like this place! Cool atmosphere, staff is chill, and solid drink selection. They got a sign that says "Best cheesesteak in town" so i tried it. All due respect to the cooks, but it was a bit bland. Needs more sauce!! Still ate the whole thing though 😅 Its pub food, what can ya do.. Always annoyed me with other people giving one star reviews cause they thought a bar would give them a Michelin star eating experience. Grow up. All in all, solid place.

Google
Ran into an ex-employee and they said that this was a great sports bar with good food. So we went to check it out and it failed on both of those. No MLB games, not great food just ok, and well really a nasty local bar. Mostly people that are just there to get drunk. So far from a good sports bar. Sorry not gonna go out of my way for this place again.

John

Google
This bar truly sucks so bad. Just got kicked out an hour before their listed closing time because they were that slow on a Friday night. Says a lot!

Ricardo Diaz

Google
Been years since I have been to this bar, food was not bad and the place has pool tables and video lotto. Will try other food and come play some pool soon.

cody keast

Google
Very comfortable bar. Got the old school “dark dive” bar vibe, but also has a bunch of TVs for sports stationed around the place if that’s your bag. Comfy booths. Lot of things to do here- Pool tables, golden tee golf, pinball machines, even a basketball machine! Good drinks. Food is good, it’s classic dive bar food (think burgers and sandwiches) with an awesome and really filling cheesesteak.

Greg Peters

Google
$10 pitchers, good food at 10 or less per person, nice classic bar with pool, basketball, and good times. Several TV's with football on.

Jilliann Bryant

Google
Decent food but not even worth it with the horrible service! Both the women bartending were beyond rude when I only asked for water! Douchy crowd too. Will def avoid this place in the future.

Google
Deliciously divey. Bartender was warm and welcoming even to non-regulars. the mozzarella sticks and onion rings and ranch were just the very hot greasy and delectable mid-drinking snack that you would desire. 75 ¢ pool (bring cash for quarters) and a programmable jukebox. immaculate. 💜

Yelp
Just left this so called restaurant got there about 925 ordered and order of chicken wings and an order of onion wings. First of all. I felt the bartenders had a very rude attitude but I sit there. Just waiting to hear well be 15 minutes 20 minutes, whatever when I asked about my order, I was met with serious hostility. I paid $19 for my order and never got my order. Never got a refund and I'm real pissed going there tomorrow give me my money.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite haunts! The staff is amazing. The Philly cheesesteak is awesome too.

Yelp
This review is strictly for my visit to see a band perform. I didn't get any food or drink (not that I didn't want to, just doing so was far too much hassle at the time). Despite the name, Thatcher's is first and foremost a dive bar. The restaurant aspect appears to be an afterthought. The food menu prices are EXTREMELY low, though, and I really do want to try their wares, so my hope is that it won't be as tough to order the next time. As far as seeing live music goes, the venue is just OK. Lighting is terrible, and despite things looking bright in my photos, it is not, it is just my camera doing its magic "night mode". The one light in the band area was a low-hanging lamp that barely cleared the singer's head. With that said, though, there is a relatively large area with what amounts to a community table for seeing the performers. The hassle with placing any orders was with the seemingly overcrowded bar, and therefore overly busy bar staff. Had things not been so busy, I'm sure things would have gone more smoothly. Based on how busy it was on my visit, it seems to be quite a popular establishment with what are probably regulars. Parking is also a hassle. Only street parking is available, and I wound up parking several blocks away.

Yelp
Bartender is a b*tch. Was rude to me, my partner, literally everyone she spoke to. Acted like she was put out then went on about how it's not even busy. Clearly has no idea what she's doing- bad service, food was fine but my food came out FORTY MINUTES before my partners, and when we asked about it she was rude again "I'm sure he knows what he's doing" okay?? F this place. It's not like one of those scummy Portland dives where everyone has a bad attitude (also garbage but a different vibe) it's just a horrible bartender in a meh spot.

Yelp
Came here twice today. Both my bartenders were great! I met Sierra who was funny and all smiles don't know the other gal but she was sweet and dressed to the nines! Great bartenders easy on the eyes and good food, get the steak bits morning cook knows his stuff.

Yelp
I h a thing for dive bars. Theres no pretense, just the regular neighborhood folk hanging out and drowning themselves in a bottle of whatever well drink they have a penchant for. Thantcher's seemed to be exactly like one of those places. It was dark, there was video poker, a jukebox, and a wide variety of clientele from college type kids to tattooed guys that I thought would look quite comfortable seemingly on a motorcycle, to down on their luck old men; And then there was me and my boyfriend. Everyone seemed to get along with each other swimmingly. You have to order your drinks, and food at the bar if you're sitting outside I'm not sure what the rules are if you're sitting inside There were plenty of tables set up outside. So we went inside to order our drinks. We had just come from the Sextant, where I had two mojitos, here, I'm told they can't make a mojhito. Seriously, every bar, should be able to make a mojhito. So I ended up with a rum, neat, forget which brand it was but he gave me a generous pour. This is a solid dive bar, if I were to mastermind a pub crawl, I'd Make sure this is on the itinerary. 2021 - review # 26

Yelp
Service was yuk. The bartender seemed more interested in serving all the men than taking care of everyone else at the bar.

K C.

Yelp
I don't even want to leave a star here. The bartender with the pig tails, black hair and thrasher shirt seemed to be a wee bit b*tchy. She look like Thursday Adam's (not Wednesday). Honestly this is my first time here, being somebody that works in this type of industry it sort of makes sense why there isn't a large crowd in this bar :/// GOOD LUCK

Yelp
Thatcher's is everything you want in a great a dive bar; I'd say little dive bar but it's actually a pretty decent sized place. The drinks are strong, the food is typical greasy and fried bar food (and it's GREAT), and best of all the prices are cheap. A basket of fries is $4 and the chicken strips and fries are like $7. Come on, you can't beat that. I love places like this. The night we were there, the place was packed and the bartender there was working so hard and so quickly; she was absolutely awesome. This place has an identity (like all great dive bars), it doesn't shy away from it, and does it so well. We need places like this.

Yelp
The food here is always awesome! Every burger is good but I have a soft spot for the Wimpy Burger (it's a classic). Just slammed the steak bites and highly recommend (peppered to perfection and a bomb ass creamy horseradish)! I stopped by for happy hour the other day and the chicken strips were great too (try the fry / special sauce). Service was great, and lots of screens going for sports fans. Overall this neighborhood bar hits all the notes.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
The cheesesteak, the burgers, the steak bites are all incredible. I haven't tried much else but it's all been good. I miss the dart boards from the old ways but we come here all the time.

Yelp
The food is good, the drinks are stong. What more do you need? Pool tables and sports on the TVs? They got it.

Yelp
I go here every Monday night while my kid goes to guitar. Normally receive awesome service as the bartender knows what we get. Tonight, there was a bartender I have not met, nor did I meet her tonight. It was dead, one other guy at the bar and a table of six guys watching the game. I sat there for 15 minutes at the bar, no acknowledgment at all. A few other people walked in, they walked up to the bar and were served right away. A couple of the other guys got up from the table and were served right away. Myself and the other guy at the bar were not addressed, greeted, or given the slightest inclination that our business was worth while. Hopefully, the tattooed girl will be back next week when I will try again. If I was a first timer, I would not be going back.

Tracy L.

Yelp
Super friendly and fast service. Staff seems to really care about customers and getting what they need! Will definitely return soon.

Edward K.

Yelp
I love this place! The night shift crew is amazing and they are all hawt. Food is amazing! All are of them are super rad! Highly recommend!

Nicole T.

Yelp
Save your money. The staff here are horrible. Literally screamed in paying customers faces to get out at the stroke of 1am on a Saturday night after gladly accepting food and drink orders and large tips while the customers frantically try to finish their food and drinks they were Literally JUST served. Then adding loudly that " the longer you take to get out, the shorter your pour will be next time!" That's not how you run a business and not how you treat paying customers. I'm shocked how I was treated as a respectful and paying customer! Despicable behavior.
google avatar

Yelp
The bartender said I could not talk politics in her bar. All I said is we need to get money out of politics. I stewed for a bit and then I told her she could f+×× off. I won't be going back since I know 6 places to get a drink 3 blocks away that are better than this shithole.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I go out for drinks every night in Montavilla so I'm no stranger to Thatcher's. Dive bars are my thing and I've been hoisting pints for years and years and spent plenty of time in ratty shitholes but Thatcher's might be the best at giving attitude. Erin is an absolute bitch. I've caught a little bit of attitude with some of the older staff but once you're a regular that goes away quick - I get earning respect and I'm OK with that. But Erin is something else. She gives everyone shit but I really felt sorry for a wheelchair bound customer wanting a drink and she said he couldn't be served because of capacity. I thought that was odd because there was empty tables outside but she told the wheelchair guy that the empty tables outside where reserved for customers who called and made a reservation. Then he asked if he could park his chair at the end of a table with the less than 6 required to meet covid restrictions and she said he could not do that. I can tell you right now that customers calling up and reserving tables was absolute bullshit because my friends and I sat at the empty tables as wheelchair man scooted out the back door. Able bodied people are sometimes clueless to the incredible amount of time and effort it takes for someone like this guy trying to be independent and live a somewhat normal life. The last thing he needs bullshit from a bitchy bartender.

Yelp
I feel like if you bring a resume saying your a bartender and you also are exceptional at being rude to customers you'll most likely be hired. I live in the neighborhood and want to like it so badly but they are just straight up unfriendly. I honestly don't understand. I work in a dive bar too and I don't have this ~im better than you vibe~ Seriously it makes me sad I don't like this spot because it could be rad if only they hired kinder people.
google avatar

Morgan S.

Yelp
I have been coming here for years. Up until recently the bar staff has been exceptionally awesome. But a new staff member has been awful. Her actions have made so unbearable I will no longer go back. She not only will skip you paid songs on the touchtunes, she will laugh and be VERY disrespectful when ordering food or drinks. I cannot.give any of my hard earned money to a place that employs someone who is blatantly rude to patrons.
google avatar

Erin H.

Yelp
Poor, low alcohol drinks, with high quality prices. Seems to work for locals with no discerning taste.

Yelp
A dive bar and a sports bar had a baby and it was named Thatchers. Everywhere you turn (including the ceiling) are banners, posters, pictures and metallic signs of football, baseball, Nascar, basketball, college and professional. It is a mecca of memorabilia. For the athletic drinks, pool tables and electronic basketball shoot. For the gamblers, video gambling games. Drink specials. So many drinks specials. Every day is something different, including a featured beers special for the month. Happy Hour - $2.95 warm soft pretzels, mac bites and more....So bad for you and so good. If you like to be outdoors, they even have a section in the back. This is a good hangout bar for a little R&R, sports, beer or whiskey. Chill, fun and happy.

Yelp
I like this place because it's dark and kind of divey and makes me feel like it's still the late 80s in Boston. And it's not "new portland." BUT, recently, a friend and I went there for breakfast. We are two ladies in our 50s. We are not troublemakers. We looked up the hours, since they aren't posted, and saw they opened at 9. We arrived just before 9, and were standing outside chatting, & idly tried the door. It was unlocked, tvs were on, and someone was sitting at a table, so we walked in, figuring it must be open. The guy sitting at a table said they were closed, and I asked what time it was. We all checked our phones, it was 8:57. We asked if my friend could use the restroom quickly, and he said he didn't work there, and went back to reading his paper. Just then a woman came out of the back and said, "You need to leave," in an icy tone of voice. I asked if my friend could use the restroom, since they would be open in a few minutes. She repeated, "You NEED to leave," advancing towards us, large pots in her hands. We headed towards the door, and she repeated, "YOU NEED TO LEAVE," & locked the door behind us, at least for a minute and a half until she would have to open it again. Service here is spotty, for sure. I've been ignored by bartenders here, as they chatted with other customers, and have rarely been made to feel welcome, which I can live with, but this incident really got to me. Not sure I will go back.

Yelp
I used to love this bar. However, my last two visits have soured my opinion. The first visit, my server forgot to place my food order with my friends. They all got theirs and suddenly the waitress remembered my order. Fine, I'll wait. But it didn't stop there, my order was forgotten again. The second time the waitress told me she forgot my friends were done. I never ate that night. I took a two year break, came back on a snow day... the bar tender gave us menus and said our server would be over. 10 min later she showed up, ordered a beer and a coffee... coffee was cold, literally cold. when asked what all came on an item we were told to read the menu ourselves. I asked for two minutes to review the menu, 20 minutes later she came back as I walked to the bar to just pay for the drinks and leave. Horrible service, I'm done
google avatar

Mikhail H.

Yelp
So, I will just say it and get it out of the way. One of the waitresses was a total beast but the other one who went above and beyond seriously discounts that entirely. I went here for the first time and nearly fainted after ordering food and drinks as to how cheap my bill was. And it was gooooood bar food and booze too - heavy pours and all! They make a killer Creamsicle (the drink with Stoli Vanil) which looks like a double and charge like $6 for it...no joke. Killer tater tots! I will warn you though - since the menu does not that the pulled pork is spicy as hell...tasty but spicy. Just a heads up...
google avatar

Greg E.

Yelp
Had breakfast here with my wonderful special lady friend this morning. So for 7 bucks I got a bad ass 3 egg omelet, hash browns and 2 slices of sourdough toast. I Approve. Very tasty. My omelet had feta cheese, ham, olives, avocado and much more. I'm stuffed. Not only is the food more than adequate and cheaper than most other places around here. But there was zero wait time for a table and there were about 4 other people in the entire place. I love it. Next time I'm in the mood for a hungry man type meal, I know where I'm going. =)

Yelp
There are few times when a meal brings such sumptuous, delectable flavors to the palette AND feelings to ones heart. Thatchers has achieved the extraordinary by providing both with their Mac and cheese bites. Simply delightful! Whenever I need a safe, healing, comforting space, I head on down to Thatchers. Whenever I'm in the mood for some rambunctious, upbeat fun, I head on down to Thatchers. I highly recommend joining us for a leisurely cigarette on the welcoming, spacious patio at this exquisite Montavilla destination.

Yelp
Thatchers is one of our go-to neighborhood hang outs. Not too stuffy, not too rundown with a decent menu and beverage offering. However, I was in there with a friend on the evening of Tuesday, October 4th and the experience was bad. The only reason for 2 stars and not one is that normally the experience is better. First, the bartender/waitress. We were seated in a boot in the bar area. Our server was doubling as bartender and waitress, which I can appreciate meant she was fairly busy. However, she was extremely rude and we were low maintenace customers. No please or thank you, eye rolls whenever we asked for another drink, more of something, had a question, etc. No eye contact and her non-verbal message was clear - we were inconveniencing her. Example, we would order something to eat, or ask for a side of something and she would not even respond - just walk off and come back some time later with what we asked for. No words spoken. Very rude. (young blonde girl with tattoos on her neck, etc.) We both ordered food from the happy hour menu. My friend ordered the happy hour burger, and it was fine. Nothing fancy, but good enough for the price. I ordered the nachos. Now, nachos can be hit and miss depending on where you go, but these were hands down the worst nachos I have ever eated. The pork was all fat and I picked most of it off, even though it cost extra. The cheese was minimal and not melted. It was gross. Plenty of bars on SE Stark - no reason to go back here without trying out a few of the others.

Yelp
This is a quaint little dice sports bar with a few pool tables and decent beers on tap. If i never went back it wouldn't bother me but if someone said hey meet here I would probably show up.

Yelp
**HH review only** 4pm-7pm daily; $2.95-$4.95 food; $0.50 cents off drafts & wells Generous portions at a cheap price. $4.95 for cheeseburger & fries which any other time is $9. The half pound organic beef patty is topped with Thatcher's special sauce (honey mustard-like), a slice of white American cheese, & layers of pickles, shredded lettuce, onions, & tomatoes. After the patty is grilled though there isn't much left. It was thin as all get out & I hardly could taste the beef. Fries were surprisingly good & they have fry sauce. Love fry sauce. I haven't tried the rest of the HH menu but it's bar food so don't expect spectacular chicken strips, mini corn dogs, sliders, or wings. Table service is slow to start but once they have your attention then it's quick & smooth. The bar staff take their sweet time servicing the patrons which is annoying if you're in line for drinks. This is an average lounge occupied mostly by the neighborhood locals. There's flat screens televising sports in every room of the bar, a few pool tables, & video lottery. The drinks are stiff, the food is decent, & the staff are friendly. At most, Thatcher's gets three stars.

Yelp
Sean is the worst bartender ever. A customer is a customer no matter what. If i leave a tab open thats whatever. I can pay a 20% gratuity charge for forgeting or leaving for other reasons. But getting 86d from a bar that by now would hav made at least a thousand dollars off me alone is rediculous. This bartender is taking an open tab like a death threat. screw her and screw thatchers. what a crap establishment. business is business. i always tipped generously when forgetting to close my tab yet i can no longer come into the bar. thatchers is a 2 at best with this woman working there. #getanewbarkeep

Yelp
Thatchers is my neighborhood dive bar and I love it. Montavilla was a blue collar area until the hipsters took it over; the other restaurants on the strip are loud and crowded, Thatchers is low key, relaxed, and the happy hour prices are outstanding! For two burger and fries plates and a pitcher of Boneyard IPA on happy hour the total came to $23 and some change. Wow! Thatchers has a cozy ambiance and there are pool tables and video poker machines and of course sports on all the tv's. Sorry Observatory! You are awesome too but way too loud and crowded now..
google avatar

KC C.

Yelp
Almost every single bartender here is very nice and welcoming (especially Rhiannon, always upbeat and super welcoming and brightens up the crappiest days) but also a few of the other girls whose names I don't know. Very rare in Portland! Inexpensive, stiff drinks and really good food. Their burgers are like a gourmet version of Burger King and even their salads which I can never finish are great, which you wouldn't expect from a dive bar. One of the only places in Portland I NEVER feel like I just got ripped off from, I'm always surprised by how low the tab is, compared to most other bars (even dives)
google avatar

Cassandra C.

Yelp
Very cool space, relaxed vibe. Outside, the board advertised drink specials daily. When I asked the bartender what the special was, he said, in a rude tone, "no drink special." I'll try again another night.

Yelp
Fix your bathrooms.. my mother has to hold it because your friggen toilet seat is not secure .. so I went back months later and still so loose???.. we won't be back.. use to be my fav place.. but have told bartender after bartender .. and called " management"..

Megan M.

Yelp
This place has consistently sucked in my nearly 5 years in the neighborhood. Not only are the bartenders not interested (no matter who it is, they are consistently just "too cool" to care) but the clientele leaves something to be desired as well. They def attract the less-desirable crowd in the neighborhood so it's a nice "magnet" to attract them. As for me, I'll be far, far away. xo
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
They don't make you feel welcome here, only that you are making then work. I asked for a drink recommendation but got nothing literally no suggestions only " I'm not a mixologist". Then when we tried to cash out we needed to wait in line. Figured they would want to get us out faster but no. I love dive bars, but not a place that doesn't appreciate customers.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
A chill little place. I also finally found a place that was able to make a decent scooby snack which made my night. They also have video lottery here and a few pool tables for entertainment. We ordered fries and they were pretty good. The only downfall is the staff here. The bartender wasn't so friendly and she took forever to come around and also took forever to close out our tab. I doubt we will ever come back to this place since they have bars everywhere in portland.
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
Great place to get ripped for not a lot of money. Dropped in for a drink before heading to another local restaurant for dinner. (We were early for our reservations) Seems to be your typical neighborhood pool hall/ sports bar/ beer joint. The place was packed with "regulars" who were all having fun and watching the game. I would bet that this place explodes on busy nights! The service was almost non existent. Plan on getting your own drinks at the bar because the waiters seem to be totally overwhelmed. Bar tender was cool, fast, and mixes them on the strong side.
google avatar

Marina J.

Yelp
The bartender on 4-13-18 afternoon really had an attitude (woman with cropped short hair). This was my first visit there and I will never go back. The bartender yelled out....WHO PUT ON THAT SONG....we did....(70's song)....she said it in such an accusatory manner and said she skipped it. I also did not like that the lottery machines were so filthy and sticky.
google avatar

Christy H.

Yelp
This place is big inside and can hold a lot of people. They have a couple pool tables and a juke box playing some good tunes and bar area is nice and large. They have some great local beers on tap and the mainstream "bud light" type beers as well. Drinks are average price. The nachos are off the hook!!! Huge serving of pilled high tortillas, cheese, olives, jalapenos, sour cream, guacamole, and your choice of chicken, beef, or pulled pork. We went for the beef and pulled pork and it was sooooo good. Some of the best nachos eva!. This place is good for people watching. They always have an interesting crowd. Especially the later into the evening it gets.

Yelp
Would give 4 or even 5 stars, had my last visit not been so terrible. Credit machines were down, so we were forced to use the atm (which I did not end up using). The bartender would not let us open a tab, therefore we had no idea how much money to pull out....frankly, she was very rude to us (the main reason we left). We do not live in the area, but frequent their happy hour, which is really good....This place is generally very fun, good drinks, great food (especially HH)...and no usually nice bartenders. Would go back, in other scenario, but not today.

Matthew S.

Yelp
The rudest bartender I've ever encountered. Walked in, ordered a philly cheese steak to go. Wanted to play a game of pool and was interrupted half way through saying "we have to leave now if we ordered to go". Felt super uncomfortable. INCREDIBLY UNPROFESSIONAL AND I WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN. I live 2 blocks away and it's a shame they lost business. 0 STARS DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Ian D.

Yelp
Pulled into the parking lot of thatchers and had the bumper of my brand new 2016 camaro destroyed by a few inches of rebar sticking up out of a tire stop/curb in their parking lot. It was a great way to start an evening. I requested the contact information of the bar owner so I could file a claim with their insurance. The manager came down and was very friendly and amicable. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for the owner of the business. They owner insisted that the damage is my own damn fault and that I can file a lawsuit if I want to pursue damages. The owner refused to provide me with any insurance information. If the owner had been willing to speak with me they would have realized that I am a rational person. I likely would have split the cost of a new bumper and avoided insurance or small claims court. Based on the owners behavior I will be pursuing the matter to fruition.

I just stopped by after a long time, I had not been by Thatcher's in years since moving out of the Portland metro area some time ago. The lst time I was there was for the Montavilla Brewfest, which was a lot of fun. Two things have changed over the years for the better: The bar (its menu, clientele, and wait staff) and the neighborhood (no longer a sketchy neighborhood, there is a nice urban coffee place across the street and even a "pottery fun" shop a half block away). I stopped in for a basic breakfast and a Bloody Mary. The drinks were great, food was cheap, and the bartender was nice and down-to-earth (I ordered at the bar of course, then made my way to a booth). My drink was served up promptly, then the meal came without a hitch. After a second Bloody Mary, I finished my meal and was on my way. There were older couples having breakfast there, so I figured they were on to something. All in all I was very pleased and would come back again when I am in the area. Till our taste buds meet again, Brent

Yelp
Really bitchy service. Like the worst ever. Good food. Good location. The WORST most impolite waitstaff ever.

Yelp
Is it me, or did a beer distributor's swag closet explode in here? From the beer paraphernalia to the framed photo of dirt bikes jumping in unison against a backdrop of a fierce storm, to, well, more alcohol tchotchkes, there's plenty to look at in this neighborhood.... bar. Is this a dive bar? It seems to cater to your average Joe Drinker, Joe Pool Player, Neighborhood Sam, random unpretentious crowd. The server (at least at our table) was ultra friendly and on point. The bartender seemed a bit rough. The average crowd in there was... just... decidedly 82nd/Montavilla. Not the "new Montavilla" crowd, that inhabits the Vintage, Country Cat, Observatory, and other similar places along this up and coming strip, but the old school remnants. My drinks were stiff and had a bit of a metallic taste to them, which was kind of off-putting. The price was average ($6 for a Makers) and, again, our server was nothing short of totally rad. There's a few TV's in the joint for sports. Some booths, and the rest is, as you'd guess, an uncorrupted piece of Americana. Your average neighborhood pub. With a huge list of burgers. I'll be back... it's in my neighborhood.

Yelp
If you enjoy a good old-fashion and truly authentic dive bar like I do, make sure to visit Thatcher's. This place is the real deal - cheap, unpretentious, all-American, and not yet corrupted by the hipsters. This isn't your grandma's bingo bar...unless she smokes like a fish and swears like a sailor. If so, I may have bumped into her this Sunday. An eclectic mix of bingo loyalists and kickball enthusiasts, this dimly lit dive bar has everything a weathered retiree or nostalgic college post-grad could desire. Expect greasy American bar fare and to reek of smoke the rest of the evening or morning, as breakfast and beer specials are offered simultaneously. Pool, darts, and bingo are all free, and on Sundays, bingo can score you some sweet free prizes, like noodles, raspberry pie, ketchup, or pork loin cutlets. Great for a group of friends looking to have fun and get lucky.

Yelp
Stopped in here for the second time today, and as always, it was enjoyable. Was greeted by a nice young lady, who showed me that there was an empty booth I could sit at, so I sat down, and had a nice fresh bacon burger as always, and some nice french fries, along with RC cola. The good news is, is that the fries had just the right amount of salt on them. They weren't overly salty, they were just the right amount of salty. Can't wait to come in here for a third time, this time on my 36th birthday on July 25, in a matter of weeks. This time, family members will be coming, and boy it's going to be a fun one.
