Yelp
Let me preface this by saying I literally attended the grand opening of this sports bar ages ago so this isn't a review comparing the two time periods. Also, I went on Cinco De Mayo so the promotions were different. and I went right after work. I got there at 5:15pm. Plus Tito's, Patron and Dussè were all sponsoring. So they had giveaways and nice giveaways. Now, make a reservation before you go; it helps getting you in at the door. They do ID everyone. There is no dress code but do know ladies if you're wearing heels you'll be standing around (unless you get there btwn 5:00-5:30 to get a bar stool). There are tables available, but again get there early if you want to secure one. This night there was free Tito's from 5-6, free Patrón (that they ran out of in 25min) from 6-7 and free Dussè (that they stopped at 7:20p) from 7-8. But by them I was feelin my buzz. The food prices for happy hour 5-7 are really good. Now after 8pm you have to put a credit card up and have a $50 spend for food. The food itself was basic. Nothing special about it. It's not good you would expect from an American Black chef but food from an American chef who works at a Black establishment; there is a difference. Now keep in mind, I've been here plenty of times. So it's always something to go to when you just want to get out. 40/40 has become one of those touristy places that unless all of urban NYC goes too, it's all tourists all the time. People go here thinking they will see celebrities and that is NEVER the case especially on the weekends. But it's a staple go-to that you can never go wrong at. Long live the 40/40 club.

Yelp
Wowww what a wonderful throwback! I hadn't heard 40/40 Club mentioned in so long that I didn't think it was still in business. I made it here this past Saturday night after my friend was forced to find a place to party for her bday, due to reservation issues at another nearby venue. The night turned out great. There was no cover charge and no invasive pat downs or bag searches to enter. Front door security was very personable. Being the first to arrive, I sat at the beautiful bar and ordered some tasty buffalo shrimp and a very boozy cocktail made with tequila, rum etc. The DJ is at the front of the house and he was on point-playing Soca, Afrobeats and today's hits. As the night went on and the crowd size increased, he started spinning hits from Bad Boy's golden era. I felt like an extra in a Hype Williams production from back in the day. The feeling was even greater when he gave my friend a Shoutout on the mic for her bday. Everyone was dropping it like it's hot, singing along and waving their drinks in the air. 40/40 has some of the most tasty bar food too. My friends and I munched on the shoe string fries which were so well seasoned that we tried to guess the flavors. Old Bay and maybe Lawry's??? There are big screens and TV monitors on both levels showing whatever the night's game is because it is a sports bar themed nightclub. V.I.P. sections and private rooms if you're balling. The bday squad was pleased. I would love to return on a fight night.

Yelp
The 40/40 Club may not be as popular as it once was but we had a fabulous time this past weekend. The drinks were strong, the chicken wings were good and not overpriced, and the music was good...that's all I ask for when visiting a bar/club/lounge these days. I'm not a person who frequents clubs or bars much these days but we were looking for a nice vibe and a relaxed environment on a Saturday night when visiting New York, and we did not want a club. We ended up going to the 4040 and had a really nice time, we sat at the bar had our drinks, listened to the music, and had some chicken wings. Exactly what we were looking for. So while it may not be as cool anymore to the younger adults for my age group it was perfect.

Yelp
My stars are for Decor, Crowd Energy, Setting, All the TV's & our great waitress. My stars are not for the food & drinks. Drinks - I did a Lemon Drop Martini, he did Black Label. Super small size sips, downer. Catfish Strips- the flavor was there but they were over fried. We did 2 servings and both were fried too hard Mac & Cheese- or better called pasta dumplings and paper mache. Unfortunately, places will believe so much in the antics and superficialities that the food can and will be comprised. I've said in other reviews that a recipe can be revisited or maybe it was a bad day in the kitchen however this M&C is an exception. Remove this from the menu! The noodles are over done and gummy, the "cheese" is basically a rue (is it assumed we wouldn't know the diff?). Look at the pic, it's literally soup. I'm trying to understand how this item has been on the menu as long as it has. My remarks are not be mean, it's just with all the hype around Mac & Cheese these days- we have to start calling things what they are. When I was growing up M&C was not something everyone could and would attempt to make. I'm here to give Mac & Cheese it's just due and this recipe is not acceptable.

Yelp
Came here for my friends graduation & birthday party . We had the elite lounge package that came with bottles & food platters . We added another bottle & platter to the package . My only thing is we didn't get checked when coming in . However , the place was loaded with security . The host for our room was amazing . The room size did not sit the 36 ppl that was there although it's a room for up to 50 . We had bottles so the drinks were good . The food was cool . The plain chicken was good . The chicken fried rice was good & I couldn't tell the difference between the crab cakes & lobster rolls . My home girl said the BBQ wings were tough . Place was clean & crowd was cool. They didn't allow us to decorate prior to the event time, even when asked to arrive 10 minutes before the event time , therefore we had to arrive around the start time to decorate , which is crazy being for the amount that was spent that night which was damn near 5 racks or a little over.

Yelp
We visited here for a friend's birthday and he had rented out one of the rooms for a private party but we still had access to the rest of the spot. It's a very swanky venue with nice decor. I didn't eat anything at this time but we definitely had drinks/bottles. From what I experienced, the bartenders and bouncers were friendly and professional. I will definitely come back again to see what a normal night is like.

Tamara B.

Yelp
We traveled to New York to celebrate my cousins birthday. The vibe was amazing!!! The DJ was on point, he played a little bit of everything. We are from DC, and he didn't have any Chuck Brown.. but we wasn't mad! If you go on the weekend, there is a dress code. Bottle service was great, private section was nice, and they cater to you well. FOOD WAS BOMB!!!!

Matt S.

Yelp
The 40/40 club is the closest thing NYC still has to ESPN Zone (RIP). Great service (shoutout to Tiana), tons of TVs, above average food, and surprisingly very reasonably priced. They also have an insane happy hour deal which makes everything even cheaper if you can get there before 7. And despite all of these great things, it's somehow still very easy to make a reservation. A true, well-kept secret for watching sports in NYC.

India W.

Yelp
Upscale bar/lounge . they have an enforced dress code , so business casual only . the food and drinks are reasonably priced . the service is friendly and fast . our waitress was very attentive to us and our needs . if i'm ever in the area again , i'll def stop back in .

Adelina M.

Yelp
I could not have had a better time. It was everything I dreamed of and more. The DJ played my birthday song exactly at 12 o'clock midnight and she even came to take photos with us. Her vibe with everything. The food to die for!!

Sharisse B.

Yelp
I was supposed to meet my friends at a different venue. However, the other venue was closed for a private event. I suggested they go to 40/40. I've been there in the past & had a great time. I was the last one to join them. When I arrived I had some wings, a shot & a couple of drinks. I had a long week & wanted a strong drink suggestion. The bartender suggested a Long Island Iced Tea. I asked if she could make a Blue Long Island Iced Tea. She said yes & I said let's go for it. The vibe was nice. The DJ was spinning, but you could still have a conversation without screaming.

Yelp
Ok so I made reservations for this place weeks before we came to New York. The day of our Reservations, we walked here from our hotel it started to rain on us. When we got there it was closed. It was a Sunday at noon, which I had noon reservations. I seen a man unlocking the door at about 12:15pm. I told him we had noon reservations and he said they don't open until 1pm and to come back then and they will accommodate our reservation. | even showed him my confirmed reservations. We went back at 1pm and we were the first ones there. We seated ourselves and discovered that they no longer offer brunch ( which is why we came)... they said that ended a month ago. Since we were there, we just ordered off the menu available. They had a nice selection for any type of eater and TVs everywhere. They did inform us that this is not a nightclub but a sports bar. The bathrooms are under the stairs and they are a bit spacious they have a tiny corner sink, but the soap os terrible... it is so watery that it's just colored water it's not soap.... After washing my hands I used my hand sanitizer. Tip: Doesn't seem like the reservations mean anything and bring your own soap.

Chris G.

Yelp
Don't bother spending your money here. This establishment is just a money grab. They charge you $40 to get in, then $60 to just stand around, and finally, $100 to sit down near the bar. Such establishments are simply a cash grab. This is just a ghetto mess. To make matters worse, they don't even honor their reservations. I made a reservation weeks in advance and still had to pay $40 to get in and sit by the bar without even having a table. Stay away for your own good. Plus, they don't even bother to have air conditioning.

Dimitric H.

Yelp
Is it the ultimate sports bar NO But is it ok? Sure! I've been here many times over the years, what I like about this place is that it's definitely an upscale sport bar which is very different from your average neighborhood one. It's also a great place to watch sporting events, the large multiple TV screens at the bar makes it a great place to view many sporting events. I wouldn't come here without watching a big game or event to be honest though. Food is subpar, really wish they had better food it would make this place 10x better. Drinks are expensive and not really strong They also take your ID and credit card to start a tab which is quite annoying. 3.5/5 stars Come here for a major sports event or if it's your first time for the experience being that it's Jay-Z's club.

Josie J.

Yelp
Me and my sorority sisters visited 40/40 club to watch the NCAA championship game and we decided to get bottle service since that was the only way we'd be able to sit in the booths. Our waiter was super friendly and helpful with our requests. I got the chicken as my appetizer which was okay and then my sister got the Mac and cheese which she said she really liked. Since we were watching the game there didn't seem to be a dress code enforced. The DJ played the tunes during the commercial breaks and half time which was appreciated. This was my second time attending an I'd definitely come back again and recommend others to visit as well.

Unique D.

Yelp
Stopped by 40/40 Club after the Eddie Griffin show was canceled. The door staff were very kind and helpful. The fried chicken wings were recommended. We tried the shrimp and pasta, salmon with pasta, chicken wings and Ceasar salad. The wings are worth a visit...my mom said if you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all. Ways they can improve is on service.

Mary S.

Yelp
I made reservations on fight night . But once I got there the line was around the corner and there was an $80 cover :( Soooo we never made inside maybe next time

Jon M.

Yelp
If you're reading this you're already on your way to making the best decision of yo life. I'm talking rih, I'm talkin Jay Z, I'm talking nice couches n drinks. Enjoy yoself.

Tina M.

Yelp
Despite them not honoring my yelp check in offer (it was only 10% off the bill so whateva) I still had a decent time having drinks and watching the game with my peoples. Definitely more ladies than gentlemen in the spot this particular day which was kind of weird but then again it's very cutely decorated so it's very picture worthy. Those steps alone make for dope shots. I had the Mac and cheese and the turkey sliders and they were both ok. I can't really speak too highly of them but I can't really put them down either. They were basically just iight.

Stephanie G.

Yelp
First off this club is so beautiful! Walked I. Here on a rainy Tuesday afternoon looking crazy. I didn't think they would let me in due to it being so fancy but it was a Tuesday and they open the door with open arms. But there is Dre's code on the weekend. Andre was the bartender on duty that day. He was so cool and nice. Took us in a tour of the place showed us all the highlights of the club. We ended up eating dinner there and that was really good too! Prices aren't to bad either. Walked in here looking for a drink and got a whole experience! Can't wait to party here!

Kwame H.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday night. We had a section for the night and a group of people. The bottles & food came very late, about 90 mins past the time we got there (I think we had to talk to a waitress and tell them we never got them delivered before they actually started working on them). We had the platter of wings and empanadas. The food was OK, I'd give it a 7/10. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't top-tier. Some wings were better than others, but it was doable. The music was good for most of the night and it did have a nice aesthetic look. They had a lot of TVs as well and a full 360 bar. It wasn't crazy packed, but it had a small crowd and some sections rented.

Big S.

Yelp
Always a good time for sporting events Especially fight night Great crowd. Great service. Great Dj's

Robyn R.

Yelp
I made a dinner reservation, only to be advised upon arrival that there is a $40 cover charge per person. I asked the doorman to kindly confirm, as I had a reservation and would be sitting for a meal. It didn't seem right to me to ALSO have to pay for entry. Interestingly, the cover charge was required to be paid in cash. I refuse to spend money to spend money. All in all, it's bad business. I would've spent much more in food and drinks, but instead said "never mind" and walked away to spend my money elsewhere.

Chauncie R.

Yelp
Love the ambiance the food did reflect the menu and we went on a Saturday and it was not that pack would orefer to go when it was more of a crowd

Priscilla B.

Yelp
Great happy hour here if you're ever in the area. Lots of tv's showing multiple sporting events. All of the food had good flavor & the happy hour cocktails are $7 and vary daily by the bartender. Different levels all with great views & an awesome ambiance!! Was hoping to see Jay-Z walk thru the door lol

Rafael Q.

Yelp
Every year my company sponsors an NCAA basketball viewing event and 40/40 never disappoints. The staff is always on point from the moment you walk in. The floor staff is extremely attentive and friendly. Keep up the great work. Host your next event here!

Destiny B.

Yelp
We didn't know what to expect at this place. Our reservation was early so there were not many people there which actually worked in our favor. Jim waited on us and he was Terrific! He actually gave us a tour and was extremely knowledgeable about the venue. Now the food wasn't all that, it deserved maybe 3/5 stars. The drinks were great, we went with Jim's recommendations. Gave this place 5 mainly due to Jim. We had a great experience... Thanks Jim!!

Kiara F.

Yelp
The security here is corrupt. They're pocketing cover charges and capitalizing on people who don't live in NYC. Half of my group went in, no cover charge. When we arrived, before them we were asked if this was our first time and told the cover was $20 pp and sent to an atm. We paid it because apparently this is a new thing in NYC (I moved in 2019, used to frequent 40/40 before moving). When we purchased as section I advised the waiter to add to he $50 we paid at the door ($20 per guy and $10 per woman) - the waiter said, no way, there's no charge tonight. I advised "you go figure out what they did with our money then." My friends were underwhelmed to say the least. I wish I could post the video of our bottle coming, a disgrace to say the least.

T W.

Yelp
It did not live up to the hype. Music was good and that was it. Ordered the shrimp spinach dip and it was runny, the crab cakes were the size of a half dollar and mainly breading, wings were barely warm. Our server Terrell was very attentive and we appreciated that. Had looked at the website to make sure we were within dress code. Got to the door and had to wait outside, only 5 people in front of us and then told we could not come in because my boyfriend (who was dressed in casual wear-no athletics) but had Timberlands on could not come in. We told them we were from out of town and they charged me $20 and him $40. Only to get inside and it was literally 12 other people in there. Vee watched plenty of men come in wearing sneakers and it clearly stated on the website no sneakers. Not to mention the all the Santa suits that walked through. Again very disappointed in this establishment.

Christine R.

Yelp
Went afterwork for Happy Hour for a birthday celebration. The Happy Hour food menu was good but the Happy Hour drink choice was limited. They had beer, wine, sangria and one specialty drink (some type of lemonade). I enjoyed the food, we ordered the Cajun fries and the nachos. I wasn't impressed with the one specialty drink that they had on the Happy Hour menu. I think they should have more options outside of beer, wine and ONE specialty drink on the Happy Hour menu because everyone is not a fan of a lemonade mixture. The decor of the place was immaculate and the servers were very attentive. Its a great place to hang out but don't plan on getting Happy off of their Happy Hour Drinks unless you are a beer drinker. Be prepared to buy regular price cocktails for $16 each.

Day S.

Yelp
My first trip to NYC from SFO for my sisters 60th bday. First place I thought of going was JayZ's its near hotel in Manhattan to watch my niners play. Big screens were great but that is the end of the good story. Service was horrible! We were brought an extra dish that we did not order but server did not take back and we ended up paying for it and tossing it. Every chardonnay by the glass was sold out. When my sister asked for a recommendation on a mixed frozen drink with vodka as a base she was met with a blank stare. The catfish nuggets were ok, the shrimp spinach dip had no flavor and two small pieces if spinach, the guacamole was great however. And no acknowledgement of my sisters birthday at all. Price did not match product at all. Needless to say we won't be back.

Daniel D.

Yelp
To be honest. I really like coming here. Great service. Awesome vibes. I come here for UFC fights. Your almost always guaranteed to see an athlete or celebrity. My only issue is that I was given a coupon/certificate for my birthday to dine there and they refuse to accept it. But its still the best sports bar in NYC

Roro B.

Yelp
Too much confusion. Website says one thing security says another smh the worst. Now this was at the Barclay's location on a concert night.

Larae A.

Yelp
This place has always been my favorite stop when I come to New York and I can garante a good meal!

Julia T.

Yelp
Arrived on a Tuesday night around 6:00 and it was very empty which was fine. Sat at the bar and was greeted by a bartender and a trainee. Had to use a QR code to read the menu and saw they had $8 sliders for their happy hour. Went and ordered 2 of the sliders and they came out great. The reason I'm giving this place 2 stars is for 1: the bartender felt the need to pay more attention to the trainee than provide attentive service to the customers. And 2: when we got the bill, expecting it to be $16.. it was $37 and change. We told the bartender we ordered the $8 sliders from the happy hour menu and he said "you didn't specify which sliders you are getting". And despite it being our first time here, he still charged us the $37 and change. Pretty disappointing, he should specify which sliders customers are ordering next time. Overall, beautiful place and nice decor, but would not return!

Yelp
I made 4 attempts to make reservations for an event at this location. Sunday, 7/18/2022: My first attempt was to call in July. My information was taken and I was told a sales manager would contact me between 10am and 5pm. This never happened. 8/8/2022: 3 weeks later when I did not receive a call, I attempted to complete the online reservation form and received an automated response that someone would reach out to me shortly. This never happened. 8/28/2022: I call and leave my information with Lea (because now I'm frustrated and have tot ale names) who informes me that a sales manager will reach out to me on Monday, 8/29/2022 between 10am and 5pm. You guessed it. That didn't happen. Today: I contact the restaurant and speak with Justin. I ask to speak directly with a manager and, when asked provide that the reason for my call is to follow up on a reservation I've been trying to make for over a month to no avail, and my need to speak with someone who is accountable for customer satisfaction and can advise me on next steps. Justin proceeds to refuse to explain that I would need to speak with a sales manager about my issue. When I explain that I would still like to speak to a manager on duty (because Justin clearly didn't understand my frustration about the many attempts I'd already made), Justin (clearly annoyed and rude because of my persistence)stated that managers are "on the club floor" and I offer to wait. Justin proceeds to put me on hold and strategically hang up on me after leaving me on hold for 15 minutes as I customary for youth inexperienced in customer service. I am disappointed to write this review because I desperately wanted this place to at least have a standard of customer satisfaction and prioritize marketing and sales management, but apparently missing out on a few grand in sales alienating future customers in the process seems to be the standard upheld at the 40/40 club.

Romy G.

Yelp
My friends and I could not seem to find anywhere in the area that would take us on a Friday night without reservations. Who knew you needed reservations for a bar? We were told there would be 2 hour waits for all the speak easy type lounges in the area. Anyway we were excited when we saw this place as we were walking around because they actually were open and ready to accept patrons! I've definitely heard about this club before, but had never known anyone who actually went. So first thing is they don't allow hats or head scarves? The hats rule I had definitely heard of, but never the scarf rule. I think it's kind of a questionable rule considering security wouldn't know It it's being worn for religious purposes? Didn't sit right with me. My friend who looked very put together had on a scarf tied as a head band kind of thing. Looked very cute. The bouncer asked her to remove It and then followed her in the club to make sure she did. Weird. First thing we notice when we walked in, It was totally empty. Now, It was a little early for NYC, like 10:30pm when we got there, so I can't speak on If It gets crowded later or not. A cocktail waitress Christine asked us where we wanted to sit. They had some high tops in front of the bar so we sat there. Christine was very sweet and checked on us multiple times. Next thing is while the DJ played great music, It was SO LOUD. Like you couldn't hear the person directly next to you loud. I'm all for a good time, but It was like ear drum rupturing loud. We stayed for one drink and decided to go elsewhere. Can't say I would come back or recommend this spot to someone.

Charnise J.

Yelp
Really chill if you're looking to grab food & watch the game great music select. If you're in town this is the place to catch a vibe and the food is amazing too

Ade M.

Yelp
Great food ,music, service. Awesome atmosphere. The design is top of the line. Try the spinach dip.

Monique M.

Yelp
My daughter and I went after work this past Friday. We had a great time drinks were on point music was great decor was fabulous. Staff was super friendly. Except our girl bartender was not friendly at all never filled our drinks until we asked she was the worst but then she left and was replaced by a male bartender. who was super cool and was very attentive to us! That was the only hiccup too bad they have to share tips because I honestly felt she did not deserve one!

Taifha B.

Yelp
I visited 40/40 for my bachelorette party and purchased bottle service for the purposes of securing a table. In the past, I celebrated my birthday at 40/40 and had a memorable experience which is why I to have my bachelorette party there. But that was a mistake. When we arrived, my party of 4 was escorted to a table in the back of the club away from the middle of the club, where we had been seated in the past. After inquiring about possibly relocating to a more prominent table, we were told that no other tables were available. We tried to make the best out of the situation and ordered some appetizers, but they were lack luster. And to add insult to injury, the DJ that night, DJ Suss One was mediocre at best. His playlist was essentially on a loop. He replayed songs and it became apparent which songs he'd play next so my friends and I made a game out of it - the person to guess correctly which song would be next won imaginary points. Overall the experience was horrible. I won't be going back.

Whytne W.

Yelp
Very beautiful ambiance with reasonably priced food and drink options. However there was virtually no crowd on a Friday night. The music was also great as well. I think they should improve their marketing strategy to gain more attendance

Ana Z.

Yelp
I always have a good time every time I come. The Tequila Sunrise tastes really good. I ordered a vodka soda and it tasted so bad (that's why it's getting 4 stars). First time we came here was for a random meek mill afterparty and it was such a great time. Second time was for a chill Tuesday. Both times there was never a cover.

Nyasha B.

Yelp
This experience here is HORRIBLE! DO NOT go here! First of all, they don't serve real alcohol, they did not even have Casamigos in 2021. Then, the service is trash, nobody checking on us, the food taking a LONG time to arrive. And watered down fake alcoholic beverage drinks, then it's way to cold in here. The DJ is just playing playlists big chillen in a lounge you'd think would host a vibe. My expectations were so high just to be highly disappointed. Then at that CHARGE to get into this beautiful lounge that DONT got nothing to offer, just sad. I hope someone calls Jay-Z cause this shit is outrageous.

Yelp
Came here for basketball playoffs. The surround sound is amazing for sports since it totally feels like your fully immersed in the action. They only have bottled beer or cocktails. The beer I ordered happened to be a low alcoholic one... 0.5%. not sure why it's listed under beers. It tasted just like a beer so there's that. Music during commercial break was extremely loud to the point where I felt like I was in a club. Might want to bring earplugs to save your hearing.

Yelp
Came here on a friday night for an open nar event. The staff were super helpful and Amber took grear care of us. Id go back again. Its a sports bar/lounge and not so much a "club" though... Its a bit pricey but I plan to go back and try the food.

Yelp
Hot spot with popping music. Dance areas are a bit tight but the place is big, clean and fresh cut. The DJ was great, spinning up great hits old and new. He was having a great time as well. Security is tight which is great and club goers were yo themselves except the guys who were trying to pick up chicks, but they were cool too. Fun time. Can't wait to return. Mera's Tip: lean back

Yelp
They treat you like a criminal holding your id and credit behind the bar to hold a tab. That's not cool and allows the staff access to a lot of unnecessary information. The doormen lie to people coming in saying that it's business casual meanwhile there's several "special people" they let in wearing whatever. The location looks great but the wait staff is unfriendly and a bit stank. It's a shame too cause the drink menu is very bar/sports friendly. Maybe I'll return but it'll definitely be off peak hours where I can see if there's a real difference in experience.

Yelp
This was a nice place. Laid back! The food was okay. I was upset because I was told I was getting broccoli and it was a mux of Broccoli and Spinach. I don't like how the guys outside don't open the big doors for the ladies. It's two gentlemen out there. But over all the place was nice. I would come back again.

Yelp
The service is topnotch and welcoming. Environment / decor ....gorgeous and sexy! Don't forget to take pics and flicks in JAY-Z suite upstair ;-) Food - American sports bar menu ....decent quality at a reasonable price. Overall this is a place to enjoy & experience sports bar atmosphere AND for parties, events and occasionally you may spot celebrities / hangouts. But if you are interested just food then this place is not the place which offers creative menu.
