The Glittery and Edible Gold Food Trend Is a Plague | Eater

Comedian Tim Heidecker Takes Down Jonathan Cheban’s Gold Chicken Wings | Eater

"A bro‑centric New York City sports bar that served as the backdrop for a viral Food Insider video hawking $1,000‑a‑plate gold‑encrusted chicken wings. The ostentatious, Instagram‑friendly dish—favored by trust‑fund diners and driven by clickbait—generated both good and bad press and drew crowds despite being widely mocked as a passing fad; much of the attention came from spectacle and posed photos rather than culinary merit. The bar’s association with the trend even prompted comedian Tim Heidecker to lampoon the concept in a scathing song, using the wings as a symbol of excessive, performative food culture." - Greg Morabito

Easily another addition to my favorites, the Ainsworth Midtown offers delicious food, amazing cocktails, exceptional service, and the perfect vibes for any occasion. They have an awesome happy hour offer every day from 4PM to 7PM that features all appetizers and signature cocktails being half-priced. Lizzie was very attentive and knowledgeable about menu items, and it was thanks in part to her insight and suggestions that I was able to choose the perfect dishes and cocktails. Every single item was delicious and well-portioned, and I especially loved the liquid snicker cocktail. They have an amazing bottomless brunch option of $45 or $55 which includes an entrée and bottomless drinks for 2 hours, that I'm dying to try!! They offer both indoor and outdoor terrace dining, and are an absolute must-visit restaurant.

It's a cool spot. It's a restaurant with loud music with a DJ, which can get you moving a bit. I have no complaints with the food. The critique I had was that the service was a little bit slow. I remember my friend wanting dressing on her salad and asking the waiter for it, only to come when we had already finished with our food. Also, I wish there were a reservation option for the rooftop. My friends and I specifically came for the rooftop and we were told we have to wait an hour to get a table. If we had known, we probably would've chosen another rooftop. Overall the place was nice as a regular restaurant. The food was good. I like the coconut drink I had. If you're looking for a restaurant with lively music and a DJ. This spot is great.

I had a late lunch with my daughter and sisters on a Saturday afternoon at the Ainsworth Midtown. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice. We were greeted and seated right away. Our waitress was very nice but she appeared to be working the front of the restaurant alone so the service was slow. My sisters and I had the steak and eggs, which was good. My daughter had the French toast sticks, which she liked. The white wine sangria was very light. The music selection was very nice but it was extremely load like we were in a club. We had to yell to speak to one another.

We did not enjoy the food, the service, nor the atmosphere. The mac and cheese burger pictured below was especially tasteless and although I ordered it medium, it was tough, grating, and honestly gross. The truffle fries were simultaneously soggy and hard, while the pickle on the side seemed to be the best part of the meal. My table also ordered the chicken sandwich, the breakfast burger, mac and cheese, and fries. Everyone felt similarly about their lackluster and sometimes inedible meals. The waiter and bartender were trying their best, coupled with a side of attitude and ridiculously long wait times. We waited one hour to get our food after ordering and nothing was as promised. The automatic 20% gratuity was very surprising, as we were incredibly disappointed in the quality of the meal. I definitely would not recommend dining here at lunch, but maybe their options are better at dinner? The staff certainly seem to think so.

I was staying right next door to The Ainsworth Midtown while in NYC to sit on a panel about AI at NYU. After a long day of meaningful conversation and insight, this place was exactly what I needed. The Apple Poppy Salad with Blackened Salmon was absolutely delicious. Fresh, vibrant, and filling without being heavy. The staff were friendly and attentive, and I had the pleasure of meeting one of the owners, Alfredo Bethune, who was incredibly warm and welcoming. It’s rare to feel that level of hospitality in such a busy city. It really stood out. While waiting for my food, I ordered a Hendrick’s and tonic (my usual) at the bar. The bartenders didn’t hold back. Let’s just say they weren’t shy with the pour, and I wasn’t mad about it. Great food. Strong drinks. Outstanding service. The Ainsworth Midtown is definitely going on my list of go-to spots in the city.

Remy was an amazing bartender and server. He went above and beyond to check on us and made sure our mimosas were definitely bottomless! The food was was great, recommend the pancake tacos.

Good food. Great drinks. I had Faith as my bartender during brunch and she was on point, hand delivering the drinks. We had lemon drops and they did not missss. And she’s such a vibe with great energy and customer service. Our server was Karin and she was very attentive and cool. Alex gave my nephew free ice cream and he loved that

Google
I went brunch with a friend. We didn't reserve, but the bar upstairs had place so we stayed. Not being from NY, I loved the place. I loved the interior. The food was okay, the ambiance was nice, and the music was not too loud. I'm definitely recommending it.

Yelp
Found this place randomly for brunch and came with some friends who were visiting the city and in need of a solid Sunday recovery bottomless brunch. If you've got a big group, definitely make a reservation, but if you're walking in, there are two bars and a terrace where you can usually find seating. The space is huge. There's a front bar area, a big back room with large tables and projector TVs, and apparently an upstairs area too (I didn't get to check that out). The brunch deal is unbeatable - $45 gets you any entree (sweets and salads count) plus bottomless mimosas, Bellinis, sangria, or screwdrivers. My friends got the steak and eggs (a $5 upcharge), and I had the eggs Benedict. Both were tasty and hit the spot. The staff were super friendly and attentive, and the DJ had great music going the whole time. If you're looking for a boozy brunch spot that's fun, lively, and perfect for a group, this place is a solid choice!

Yelp
I love a fun brunch!! And The Ainsworth has delivered that with their "Bad & Boozy" Bottomless Brunch series. And y'all know if it's bottomless... it's for me. Starting from the moment you get your drinks with their sparklers and signs you feel like you're at a club but it's only 3pm . And I always love when they leave the champagne so you can make your drinks to your preference (I only add a splash of OJ) You can also upgrade your bottomless experience to include all of their signature drinks for only $10 extra but the whole table must participate. The food was great. The DJ was doing his thing and overall I had a great time. Perfect for celebrations and birthdays this is one for the books As always, save this post for later and be sure to join me for more NYC Foodie Adventures. Yelp
I like going here because I stay at the Hilton next door who I believe are partners. Drink prices are average and I'm usually interested in sports games on tv. Ribeye was not it. It was sweeter than expected. Mashed potatoes tasted watered down Rib eye: $60 Asparagus: $15 Mash: $15 Service is usually pretty decent Ambiance is dimly lit bar with sports on tv typically Good for after work night caps

Yelp
This bar is where we play cornhole every Wednesday that's ran by Volo. We were placed in the back of the bar which was very spacious. We had the entire back bar to ourselves so there was never a wait when trying to get drinks. The bartender was very friendly, outgoing, and attentive, and while playing, we grabbed a few drinks and food. For food I got a classic burger with cheese and shoestring fries which was delicious. My friend got the lemon pepper wings which he said was delicious as well. There's so many TVs so you can def catch any game there. We were able to watch the Thunder vs Timberwolves game after cornhole. Would recommend if you're looking for a bar with decent food and lots of TVs.

Yelp
Had an amazing experience! We went for a bottomless brunch on their rooftop! Amazing vibes and great cocktails! Brunch food is always great here especially their burger and chicken waffle sliders

Yelp
Well, wish we could comment on the food but we never got sample anything. We went in at 7:30pm - maybe 1/2 the tables were occupied and 6-8 stools open at the bar. The hostess/greeter was not very welcoming. After some back and forth we sat at the bar because everything else was "reserved." Made eye contact w Bartender. He let us sit for 5 minutes. Got menus but he didn't take our drink orders. Vibe was negative so we bailed and found a nice spot 10 minutes walk.

Yelp
11/08/24, 11/12/24, 11/15/24: Yum My newfound lunch spot while in the city. Bar type decor. High Tables, big screen TVs. Friendly engaging staff. Was craving a salad and it satisfied me to a T. Trying to be healthy however the flatbread pizza was calling so I answered and had both. lol. Only consumed half and reminder was dinner. I also love they are on seated. Download the app Seated use code Michelle1454. Basically a reservation app that rewards you for eating out. Their Spotify playlist is top notch. At times it's a toss up between singing and chewing. All in all great experience will continue to return.

Yelp
The drinks are strong and delicious, food is great. Love the rooftop scenery. Service is quick and efficient

Yelp
Happened to be in Midtown for the Christmas Festivities! Decided to check out Ainsworth for their weekend Brunch !! We got there super early but it's was truly amazing the food and service. Staff were very welcoming and super fast. Loved the Beer Garden vibes definitely could watch Sunday Football with the Fellas !! Their holiday Espresso Martini was delicious , we started with the Mac and Cheese bites and Chicken and Waffles Slides I believe it was called . Sooooooo good!!! We ended up ordering Steak and eggs , Avocado Toast and Pancakes !! Yeah we ordered like it was our last meal. Definitely Must Try If In Midtown. They also have a 90 Minutes Bottomless Brunch!!! Service - 10/10 Ambiance - 10/10 Parking - Street Good Luck Reservation- Not Needed (Great for Large Groups)

Yelp
As for the food; this was my first time at brunch (had dinner here before) and had the steak and eggs. Great flavor, crispy waffles, eggs cooked well but I wish they seasoned it a tad bit and I asked for a medium steak but it was medium well. 4.7 outta 5 Service was great and our waitress was dope! Table was wobbly and she fixed it. She never missed a moment on making sure we had a fresh carafe! Ambiance is a nice sports bar vibe but a little nicer since it's attached to a hotel.
google avatar

Michael X.

Yelp
don't com here, worst service you'll ever experience. The waitresses aren't even working, just watching tv and making you wait 1.5 hours+ for some damn calamaris. what a joke

Isabella C.

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere. Macie and Micheal at the bar were amazing, they always made sure I was taken care of. Definitely coming back soon!

Yelp
Ainsworth blessed my palate with the best turkey burger I've had in NYC. The mac & cheese was a bonus bustling with flavor. First of all, I deeply appreciate the option to substitute my burger into a turkey patty (as I do not consume beef). That was an automatic win for me! The fries wee delicious, too! A little stingy on the portion, but that wasn't surprising for a restaurant in nyc. Everything was absolutely delicious. The service was great and hassle free! The seating is spacious. I'll be back again!
google avatar

Terry K.

Yelp
I actually came here for brunch before but was texted a really good deal since I'm on their mailing list and came again St. Paddy's weekend. The service was super fast and friendly, the food was pretty good (albeit cold) (my partner loved the chicken fried over biscuits, and my steak was fatty but flavorful), and the drinks kept flowing. Huge place and I'd love to come for a sports game!
google avatar

Christine H.

Yelp
Decor is pretty Service needs more training for sure Not kid friendly nor do they have a kids menu We were told we could only sit by the door or front bar area because we had our son and there was a dj and alcohol The brunch entrees are tasty and well presented The Bellini's were good but not memorable I don't believe I will be coming back to this place mainly because of service and too many do's and don't's There are too many restaurants in NYC to have unfriendly service.
google avatar

Carlton R.

Yelp
Delicious!! We came here for holiday lunch and it was amazing! The staff and ambience was top amazing. Drinks were also very well prepared and were delicious.
google avatar

Nissa M.

Yelp
Went for lunch today with a large group of coworkers for a holiday gathering. Restaurant is nice and decorated for the holiday which was a plus. Our waitress, was really friendly and helpful. The food took a while to come out but I guess it's because we had a larger party, but we were pretty much the only diners there so not sure how we could've really slowed them down. The food taste and quality was just ok, not bad but not great either. Prices are reasonable for the location.

Anna B.

Yelp
Had an amazing time at the Ainsworth. Great service from Remy who bartended, he was amazing!

Rachel B.

Yelp
REMY!!! he was our bartender and was so accommodating, and gave us great drink recommendations. We went during a love island watch party and he was so funny during the whole night. He balanced quick service, sweetness, and good jokes. We also loved the vibes of the bar as everyone was watching.
google avatar

Jamie L.

Yelp
Contrary to some of the reviews, I really enjoyed this place. It's a fantastic sports bar with multiple screens, making it perfect for catching a game. The space is large, ideal for bringing a big group of friends, and the music adds a great vibe to the atmosphere. I ordered the hot honey bone-in wings, which were absolutely delicious, and we paired them with a bucket of beer--both reasonably priced. I'll definitely be coming back here for all the football games! However, I do have to say the bartenders are not really attentive.

Demi L.

Yelp
avoid at all costs- truly do not have a good thing to say about my experience. went with a group of 14 for bottomless brunch. they sat us at two separate tables because they didnt have one big one available. took over 30 minutes to get drinks and water. we had to go up to the bar and ask for refills ourselves- but i dont blame our waitress as she was clearly stretched thin. appetizer platter arrived almost 2 hours after we arrived, and then our food came out almost immediately after. my order was wrong and stone cold. and we did not receive dessert lol. overall, dont waste your money or time.
google avatar

Clèm B.

Yelp
It is the first time I have been disappointed for a brunch. It is a sport bar, offering brunch on weekends. The menu itself is fine but I was quite surprised they did not offer any coffee or hot drinks for brunch. I visited the place with a big group and they were not ready at all. The waitress was nice and efficient to take our orders but we waited almost one hour for the first of us to be served. And the service was messy, the order of some of us was not taken correctly and they had to wait an extra thirty minutes to either get their meal or their extra ( like toasts). I do not think I will go back However, the food was decent.
google avatar

Shrina S.

Yelp
We had made reservations for rooftop but when we got there, they refused us, saying the website overbooked. After waiting we got to the rooftop. The service was ok, they were slow. The food was good and so were the drinks. The rooftop is a fun vibe but I don't think I'll be coming back again because of the service.
google avatar

Jenise A.

Yelp
The dinining area with the low tables and chairs was off limits. The DJ wasn't there during the brunch today 1-25-2025, but they still played good music. We had to sit in the bar area. I wasn't too thrilled since I hate sitting on bar stool type chairs. The foods' presentations were great. The food was good , and came out cold. The bottomless drinks were good. The server was ok, though She took her time to bring my mom and I the things we requested. She rarely smiled when interacting with us. But she wasn't even the initial server, she took over and we didn't know they switched shifts. Poor communication on their end. This restaurant also takes out the gratuity automatically. They took $10 , not sure if I would have tipped that much on own . The bathrooms are located inside the hotel lobby , outside of the restaurant.
google avatar

Geraldine E.

Yelp
I came for the bottomless brunch on the outdoor terrace. I came with my cousin and we enjoyed ourselves. The drinks were definitely felt. What we had: Mimosas Bellinis Strawberry Bellinis Chipotle BBQ Wings Hangover Burger Fried Chicken and Biscuits (English muffin) The food was good. The wings were delicious and my burger was yummy and super filling didn't even realized it had two beef patties. The chicken was good some parts were a little crispier and it was a huge piece. It came with English muffin instead of the biscuit, I'm assuming they didn't have any. There wasn't a DJ however, they did play music and they have TVs outside. Indoor there are plenty of seatings and on the weekends at night there is a DJ. This is a perfect place to watch sports and they occasionally do food and drink packages during the sports season.
google avatar

Shafina I.

Yelp
Came here for brunch. They have a good deal where you can get cocktails with brunch for an upgrade from the regular $50 bottomless price which only includes mimosas and bloody Mary's. The upgrade was worth it even though it was not very packed, yet I only got 3 drinks during my 90 minutes. The food was okay at best and took a very long time to come out. There are definitely better brunch spots in the city.

Jessica P.

Yelp
I had made a reservation for two a week in advance to celebrate my birthday. Going there, we were seated at a table next to the entrance, the people that were waiting for their table were leaning on ours, to show how close we were to the door. After many people leaning, we finally asked the waitress to move to a different table, which after that was done, we were ignored. The service that we received after was completely disgusting. Our reservation was for 11:30am for bottomless brunch. We got our food at 1:40. ALMOST 2 AND A HALF HOURS, while others who came after us were getting their food before, mind you we are only two people who didn't order much. The food was also cold and at that point I lost my appetite. Gratuity was already included in the bill, and after swiping my card, the waitress had the audacity to stand next to me to see if i would add even more of a tip. I will NEVER come to this establishment again, my birthday was RUINED!!!!!!!!!!!!
google avatar

Chad H.

Yelp
Party atmosphere with all the 2000s club hits, but the food was actually pretty good. I had a grilled chicken wrap which had lettuce, rice, chicken, and a caesar dressing on it. Came with a pickle and fries. Pretty big portion, so my hunger was satisfied. My wife had a salad which she enjoyed. Good place to watch a game, as there are plenty of TVs. Definitely recommend if you are staying at the Hilton Garden Inn next doors and are feeling lazy.
google avatar

Kelly D.

Yelp
Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me twice, shame on me! It's me, I take the blame for coming twice. The good: place is nice, big, staff are nice. The bad: food is gross, bar is sticky and doesn't seem clean, restrooms are weird and located in the hotel lobby. Probably a fine place to watch some sports and have a few drinks (though I'd avoid the draft, was flat and skunky both times I tried). Food was underwhelming, and bf couldn't even eat his burger..yup, that bad..he eats EVERYTHING! Chicken and biscuits was edible but overall not good. Might be a fun late night place, but I'm a day drinker so couldn't tell ya! Verdict: could be a fun spot for a large group up grab drinks and watch a game. Much better places in the city to grab a meal. Will leave this place to the tourists!
google avatar

Beth M.

Yelp
It's the service........ The food was really cold and I don't know if it was because the AC was too high. It just was very mid. I went in with a pulsed voucher, and I really think that turned off the server as if we were not gonna tip correctly. The energy of the server was honestly the issue.
google avatar

Kimie W.

Yelp
Service was good, I was able to use the voucher without issues. the host at the door was friendly and nice. food was good. the music is screamingly loud, not a good place to talk with friends . it is a nightclub vibe. otherwise it was All Good
google avatar

Christy J.

Yelp
Where else can you go and get a Mac & cheese burger (my 2 favorite things combined into one!)? @ainsworth has you covered. They offer a 90 minute bottomless brunch with the options of Bloody Mary, mimosas, sangrias, screwdrivers, & beer. We ordered: -Country Fried Steak & eggs w/ waffle fries -Strawberry Churro French Toast -Fried chicken & biscuits We also stopped by for their New Year's Eve party which was also a vibe. I've been here on multiple occasions to try different menu options and this spot is basically always a vibe. The gold wings are still on my list to try so I'll definitely be back.

Autumn B.

Yelp
The service is slow. Would not recommend eating here - something about my food was off. I ordered the boneless wings which were lukewarm, and tasted like grease. The bleu cheese looked & tasted weird, and the carrots had a funky scent. I have a feeling the kitchen isn't clean.
google avatar

Mark R.

Yelp
Food was but the service was slow and lacking. Waitress was distracted by chatting with customer at the bar and didn't see when i called her several times. Hardly anyone was in the place so being busy was not an excuse. I'll come back but probably on a different day or location where the service hopefully is better.
google avatar

Rosie B.

Yelp
Found this place on a pulsd package of bottomless drinks and dinner entre for two. I made a reservation through OpenTable since I couldn't get anyone on the phone or an answer to my email. We arrived on Friday night around 8 to a very small crowd. The hostess sat us next to two other couples in the back area, which I found weird cause there was plenty of seats and we were sitting quite close to each other. But I think the other couples were also dining with a purchased Groupon/pulse. Didn't care much for the waiter it felt like he was being annoyed when we asked for anything. The food was ok, my partner was disappointed with his burger he asked for it medium and it arrived well done. The music was good, maybe we were too early to feel and see the vibe of the place but idk we'll be going back.

Katelyn M.

Yelp
Do not waste your time. The food is fine if you have 3 hours to spare to wait for someone to come wait your table. Don't even think about ordering Sauvignon blanc Don't bother ordering Pinot Grigio either because they will give you Chardonnay. Grabbed dinner here with a 90 minute bottomless drink deal - incorrect drinks, and mixed drinks that were not made with standard pours (sub-standard). Again, the food was fine. Just not worth the experience with the staff + the drinks. Had to keep asking the hostess or bartender for assistance. Place was relatively empty for a Friday night (makes so much sense). Staff was either no where to be found or doing the bare minimum - ex) when our waitress finally arrived after 25 mins, we received no introduction and were just asked "you ready?" We came here for a friend's birthday & ordered dessert for the table but had to ask the staff (not our waitress because we couldn't find her) if we can have someone come clear our dinner plates. Not worth it, even with the deal. There's plenty of other establishments in this city I would've preferred to spend my money at. I've been to the Ainsworth in RVC and have had an experience opposite of this one. It was very disappointing to see such a stark difference

Yelp
One word TRASH... to start off no ribeye.. slow with getting drinks. Got the chicken waffles app tasted old then the wagyu burger tasted horrible and over cooked.. NEVER AGAIN... ohh and on top of everything the server has such a "im done with this attitude" horrible experience

Yelp
This was the most amazing experience of all time. the food was fantastic the service was even better and it made my Super Bowl and birthday!

Yelp
Came here for brunch last weekend and it was delicious! The service was great and our server was so helpful and friendly. The hostess also kept coming to check in on us as well. We got the cinnamon french toast sticks was super yummy and perfect for french toast stick lovers. We got steak and eggs as well and this was a perfect way to get our protein in. Steak was cooked exactly how we wanted it to be. The chicken and waffle sliders was GOOD. especially with the maple syrup in it - so delicious. For dessert, we tried their churros which of course is always good - how could you mess up on churros!? it had caramel, chocolate and vanilla sauce. For our drinks, we tried their espresso martini which I thought was too sweet but still very good. My friend got the strawberry basil lemonade - also too sweet but we added more ice and water which helped. Would recommend adjusting the sweetness level if you order their cocktails. The space was big and a vibe. Perfect for group brunch/dinner. They played really good music too. Super close to herald square!

Always happy to come stop before heading exploring NYC. The burgers and the food always keep you you full and drinks list is very excellent.

This place is solid. Great rooftop patio white decorations, lights, and TVs. Also lots of good vibe indoor seating and not too loud. They have a CRAZY Mac and cheese burger that you have to try (for the taste and the look) and some great other apps and desserts as well. Big menu with options for all. The service and staff are super

Yelp
Service was great despite how busy things were with the Super Bowl going on. The vibes were perfect too for the game.

Yelp
I can't really attest to this place too much, as I was here for a quick drink before heading off to other festivities. The Ainsworth is kind of a known entity at this point. You really know what you're getting - whether it's a mac and cheese, burgers, a million different sides, beer, etc. etc. There's multiple locations and even websites too. This one is connected to the Hilton Garden Inn. I can see this place as popular for travelers that are in town, of course. If you're at the bar, I'd recommend the corner seating as you'll get some nice sunlight there. Apparently the interior is much bigger? I didn't bother venturing that far There's a select menu of happy hour beers for $4 too. I'd recommend that as you can't really find that anywhere. Otherwise, this is a predictable place. If you want your fix of American cuisine or a business meal of sorts that isn't boring or exciting, this is for you. As you're right off Park Ave, you avoid a slight bit of the noisiness of the area, which can be a good thing.

Yelp
I came with a Puls'd deal for $49 dinner for two with 90 min bottomless drinks. The last new restaurant I visited for the rest of 2023. It was loud in there in the seating area in the back. Great Hip Hop and R&B music was played on a Sunday night. It's more like a sports bar as well. The food was great but small portions. The drinks were watered down with ice. But good drinks still. The waitress Karine was so friendly and a good server. I would explore the rooftop when I visit again in nicer weather. I wanna try the wings also. I love the Led lights quotes!

Yelp
Poorly run. I've emailed them, the events manager and even called about a reservation for 75 people and no one has responded in over a month. Luckily there is no shortage of restaurants in Manhattan that can host us, but it's frustrating to be brushed off.

Yelp
Pls shut this place down. Had a reservation to watch the NFL games. Sat down along with 3 other tables and not one server. We all looked at each other and were baffled. Place is the most poorly run bar/restaurant I have EVER seen. We told the hostess we were leaving cause we literally had no one to take an order response "ok" could give a sh*t. As we left we saw the two other tables. Total of around 20 people whoever is the manager should be fired.

Yelp
Server was Ivonne on 6/1. Me and my friends had the BEST time. Food was yummy, drinks were great and Ivonne was really nice. After our bottomless dinner we had one more drink on the roof top. I highly recommend for brunch or diner. The vibe is great for a friend meet up or date, not really for a families.
