The Alexandra

I like to go here after a day at Wimbledon Tennis Grand Slam. Always great atmosphere and the food is amazing. Had the pie and it was so good. Salt and pepper squid was nice too. There is a great selection of beers wine and spirits. The crowd is very relaxed and there is always a chat to start somewhere. Looking forward to my next visit

Very nice pub. We watched the England Semifinal and the atmosphere was fantastic. The food (fish and chips) was mediocre. Service was bar service and friendly.

The food was amazing. The curry sauce with the fish and chips was the best I've ever had. They didn't have the chicken burger, but the normal burger was pretty good.

Really nice staff and great place to watch the tennis. Bizarre experience with the £21.50 Camembert - they've saved themselves 25p a wheel by buying Tesco's own brand 'cricket st thomas' rather than a name brand. The tesco cheese has an inexplicable ammonia/chlorinated taste - feels like you've been at the municipal pool. Would recommend the place for a pint. But not the cheese.

I had the BEST beef and onion pie here last night! It was insanely good, proper mash, tasty cabbage and great wine.

Headed into The Alexander for a cozy pub experience and a roast dinner that I didn't have to cook myself. Young’s pubs have a reputation in London for being top-notch, and this one is impressively large, complete with a sports bar. This means it can get quite busy on football days, but the lively atmosphere is part of the charm. I decided to go for the chef’s roast to get a feel for the overall quality. Unfortunately, they were out of one of the meats, so I chose the slow-roasted lamb shoulder. It was presented well, and the server did a great job explaining the dish. However, I was a bit let down when I found a smaller piece of lamb than expected under the Yorkshire pudding, particularly for a £28 meal. The plate was cold, which didn’t help on a chilly day, causing the gravy and food to cool down too quickly. The lamb had hints of garlic and rosemary but was a bit dry in places. The carrot was cooked perfectly, though the cabbage and celeriac didn’t impress much. The roast potatoes were crisp but lacked flavor, overwhelmed by the oil. The Yorkshire pudding was good, but that's expected. Overall, it's a bit of a roasting, excuse the pun, but I've had better for less recently. Once we ordered our food and drinks via their app our drinks came very quickly then our food. We couldn’t believe how the service was very quick in a pub even if in a rush hour. The ambiance, food and everything was great! My fav in my local area💙

Fantastic roast beef dinner. Was hot, fresh and very very tasty! Roast potatoes were also top tier crispy roasties!

Strangely, pubs are not thick on the ground in Wimbledon. The Alexandra (locally known as "the Alex") is centrally located, a short walk from the railway station. It is very popular, benefiting from an off-street outside seating area, plus a terrace upstairs. It has a full bar, including a good range of real ales and craft ales. They serve food throughout the week. I've always found service to be friendly, and reasonably efficient (it can get very busy in summer). I have only eaten here a few times, and the food has always been perfectly decent: the main issue in terms of both food and drinks is that it is quite expensive, reflecting the area it is in. A couple of pints of lager, with some snacks, won't leave much change out of £20. But the upstairs Terrace in particular is a nice place to chill out, and it feels away from the hectic traffic of the Broadway.

Food was good (7/10), Service was ok (6/10), Restrooms and overall cleanliness fell short (2/10). Had the fish and chips and scotch egg. Both very good. Also tasted the steak hot pie. Good but a bit too salty. Would I go back. Hmmm... probably not.

I called in one afternoon as I noticed that they where doing a hog roast & fresh burgers outside, the brewery also owns a streamline American style trailer that cooks & serves various burgers, a sort of street style type food, the trailer moves around to other bars owned by the chain pub depending what is on in the area. The food served was pretty good, rather expensive but worth waiting for. With the only down side being the bar, did not have a welcoming atmosphere. For drinks took a little while to be served, staff didn't observe who had been waiting in line first. Food 5* Bar service 3*

Best pub in Wimbledon! I've been here during day time and night and always had a good time! During the day we've had lunch here in the terrace and in the main pub area, the terrace is always hard to get a table in the summer but it is really beautiful checking out the view and the food here is really nice! Love the chips in a small bucket but there is just not enough of them! And in the evenings it can get pretty busy on a football night/Friday and Saturday night where there are bouncers at the door ensuring it does not get too crowded inside! Same again getting a table is also pretty hard to get and queuing to be served can be up to 15 mins! But there is seating areas outside and after a certain time no drinks are allowed outside! There's normally a DJ from 9pm onwards and the dance floor gets fully fast! The only downfall is the drink prices are London prices and the terrace is impossible to enter at night as they are so busy!

Big fat yes to The Alexandra's roof top terrace! Strolling back from Wimbledon after a long day of soaking up the British sun and British rain, we were already well weathered and fancied staying outside! Luckily a friend of mine is from around here and recommended this place! Drinks aren't the most extensive, at least not on the beer front, but I did get a nice pint of local amber ale - I can remember the brewery name but it was a decent beer! Nice environment with a live guitarist walking round playing tunes! Perfect place to spend an evening drinking!

This is definitely better in the summer. Great terrace, perfect for a sunny lunchtime or lazy afternoon. I recently dropped in on Christmas Eve, and it's fine. Apart from the eye-watering prices - £6.20 for a single g&t, yes really. Still, we were a large group and managed to get a big enough set of tables. Whether that would be the case on a weekend, I can't say. Another plus is the proximity to buses and train station. For a more characterful pub experience, I'd head up the hill to the village.

I had so much more fun here than I thought I would! It seemed kind of an odd atmosphere when we arrived - quieter at the front bar (although still no seats) so we decided to brave the room at the back where it looked darker and much busier but we were naturally gravitating towards the live music. My eagle-eyed friends spotted a table and moved through the crowd with the speed and precision of pub-table-nabbing pros, promptly plonking themselves down and spreading their coats along the chairs to reserve enough for all of us. Once settled we enjoyed the band playing all your usual pub-band classics. You know... 'A Town Called Malice', 'Mustang Sally'... don't ask me to name any more, I'd had a few glasses (bottles) of wine by this point. Although I found the pub a little intimidating up front (you know when it feels like everyone knows everyone else and you've interrupted a 'regulars-only' evening?) it was actually great fun at the back - a real mix of young and old all just having a really fab night! Some friends danced, the rest of us had slurred "I love you... no no NO, I LOVE YOU..." conversations. All in all a brilliant evening - I'd definitely return to The Alexandra!

I only popped in for a quick pint, though there atmosphere and there staff seemed nice enough. Quite an old fashioned style pub, which gave it a nice character. Totally didn't know they had a roof top terrace until I read some of the reviews! I'll have to go again and update this :)

Stopped by the Alexandra on a Sunny Monday evening and got a table on the roof terrace. Great spot for summer outdoor dining, but I imagine it's hard to get a table on the weekends or towards the end of the week as it was pretty busy on a Monday. Good selection of wine and beer, food was a little disappointing - BBQ platter that clearly hadn't been cooked on the BBQ, but was tasty enough. Think we'll return again to check out the downstairs areas as it has the potential to be an excellent local option.

This pub used to be a real old man's drinking pub, and half of it still is, they have a kind of lounge-bar where the old guys still hang out. Through the doors though and it becomes a bit more lively. There is also a really nice roof terrace; which is pretty much occupied by smokers at the moment but perhaps in the summer there will be non-smokers up there too. Good for a quick pint on the way up to Wimbledon village; to prepare you for the walk up the long hill!

A great pub. It is almost several pubs all in one, each quite distinct from the other. There is a proper traditional pub bar area, another part with sports on tv's, a relaxed lounge area, a restaurant area, and a rooftop patio for warmer days. Each of these areas has quite a different feel/vibe and the pub is all the better for that. They have a few regular nights through the week (poker/pub quiz etc), and those seem to be well attended - but at the same time if you are at the pub on those nights but not for the event, it still feels fine. Poker/pub quiz can be going on in the one part of the pub, but in the other you would never know it. There is usually a good selection of beers as well as lager on tap, as well as a good selection of bottled drinks including ciders. The food here is definitely worth trying and I don't think we have found anything yet that we didn't love. The Alex is well worth a visit.

Just the place for those cold mellow ones! Lovely roof garden, friendly staff, good selection of lagers and your basic ales coupled with great menu, it's all a winning combination!!! 3 bar areas/rooms so take your pic depending on the atmosphere you're looking for!

Split a meat platter that was part of the weekly "Sunday Roast". It was slightly better than expected, but I couldn't find a beer I liked (tried four of them). They had something claiming to be an IPA that tasted more like a weak APA, about 4 light lager styles, and pink lemonade light lager mix. If they had a wheat or hefferveisen or any not-light-style, it would go a long ways with me. I think they are more focused on wine/mixed drinks here.

The roof terrace is a favourite of mine in summer and we always have had a good time here.

A great pub, especially in the summer with the roof top terrace. The food's good enough but I've always used it as more of a place to start the night off with. The staff are very friendly and the price's a reasonable for Wimbledon. Always a nice friendly atmosphere and it's a good place to watch the sport without going too mental. Just down the road from the station.

The food in the main bar used to be fantastic but the menu has recently changed to boring stuff like penne pasta with vegetables! Bring back the minute steak and the alex burger!!! Good service and location but really disappointed the menu has gone downhill!

good traditional pub. roof terrace excellent inthe summer and useful to smokers. they even have tv on the roof for football. food a bit average
