All the Latest Restaurant Closures Around the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"I read that Chef Soleil Ramirez shut down her Midtown Global Market Venezuelan restaurant Arepa Bar in early February citing concerns for the safety of her employees; Arepa Bar is partnering with Ramirez’s other restaurant, Crasqui, and transitioning to a catering business offering Venezuelan dishes like ceviche, croquetas de yuca, polvorosa de pollo, and golfeados." - Justine Jones

Google
The food in this place is amazing, we have been a couple times and everything we’ve tried is delicious. We have had amazing handful of plates and they have all been good. The service is great as well, the waiters are very attentive and nice. We have brought empanadas to make at home and even those have been great. We love their empanadas, arepas and today my husband had the churrasco and it was delicious. It is a bit expensive but there aren’t many choices in the area that sell what they have.

Google
Enjoyed the atmosphere, which was very authentic, as if I was in a “Sodita” back in my country. The food tastes fresh and delicious. The proportion was perfect, and having a dessert on the spot was an evil detail, as I wanted a portion of everything!

Esmeralda J.

Google
Food great. Prices not so much, if you look at the prices on the website the plate we wanted it says it is $35.00 dollars but when you get there it is actually $55.00 dollars. Very disappointing on the price difference, more when we drove 2 hours to get there and had to pay higher prices for everything we ordered.

Google
Delicious Bandeja Paisa! From outside, looks like a boring establishment BUT in the inside, its a whole little vibe. Beautiful decor, amazing attention to guest service and most importantly delicious and fresh food. Must try, you will not be disappointed.

Every time I've been here, the food has been exceptional and the staff very friendly. A local gem for sure.

Google
As Brazilians, my husband and I love rice and beans and we were crazy to eat something like that. We started searching for Colombian places on Google and found this one. We really enjoyed! The food is so tasty, and staff is very kind! We will definitely come back to try other plates 😋

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 What an amazing experience at Arepa Bar! My wife and I had dinner here last night, and we were blown away! 😋 The food was absolutely delicious, and the service made us feel like we were guests in someone’s home—so intimate and thoughtful. 💖 The food came out in a reasonable time, and the restaurant was spotless. Cleanliness really stood out! We ordered the Picada Arepa Bar platter, and wow! It had everything: tender churrasco steak, juicy grilled chicken, crispy fried pork, flavorful Colombian sausage, tostones, cheese arepa, two empanadas of our choice, fries, and a side of guacamole! 🥩🍗🍟🥑 Every bite was a new layer of flavor. Totally worth every penny! 👌 If you’re in Wake Forest, Arepa Bar is a must-visit! 🍽️ You won’t regret it! 😍

Delicious food and desserts are amazing also. Space is limited inside but it’s well worth it.

Yelp
Great Columbian food and lots of options. There are also delicious deserts and baked goods. Service is quick and friendly. It has become a regular family favorite!

Yelp
We were quite surprised by the variety on the menu. It's also nice to be able to see how the food is prepared. Very good food, very good ingredients, very helpful staff.

Yelp
Came here early evening on a Tuesday and it was not very busy at all. Sometimes not a good sign. But I was pleasantly surprised. It's a counter service restaurant and vibe. Friendly staff. We had a salad that the chef was actually cutting up in front of us. Fresh to say the least. We had a chicken arepa that was good and a churrasco with tostones that was very good. Great place to go for fast casual and good food. It's on the go to list.

Yelp
We found this gem! The Arepa bar is a small mom and pops Columbian place, the food is incredible! We have been here a couple of times already and the food has been consistent in flavor. My husband ordered the Bandeja Paisa, and the Caldo de res soup bowl which he says it's really good, i've had the Churrasco every time i come. I just love it. The tostones are a bit on the dry side though.. The people who work here are warm and friendly. The place is small and not a lot of tables, but it's worth the wait.

Yelp
Nice family owned establishment. The food was great. Best part for us were the empanadas. They were full of tasty meat and potato's. The fresh made juice of Guanabana was also well worth the money.*please note, we have tried the empanadas at other places in the area and none are anywhere as good as the ones offered here.

Yelp
I'm not familiar with Colombian food so I can't compare this to anything else. Not too bad, though. The restaurant is counter service. Order at the counter, pay, and the food is brought to your table. They will also clear your table. The restaurant is bright, clean, and contemporary. I ordered 1 arepa for lunch, the shredded beef with mozzarella, onions, and parsley. There was no parsley which, on one hand, might have boosted the flavor. On the other hand, it probably wouldn't have made a difference due to the way the arepa is built. The arepa is filled in layers so that it seemed like the pousse cafe of Latin food. The onions were on top, followed by the beef, then the cheese. There was no intermingling of ingredients or flavors. Honestly, the bottom cheese layer was the best. It came with what I believe is golf sauce but since I don't like mayo I didn't use it. It looks like other salsas are available, though. There's a bread and pastry counter that seemed to be getting good business, too. I'll give them another try with a different dish and see what I think.

Yelp
Arepa was so goooooood! We ordered one and went back for a second one before we left. DELICIOUS! I will definitely be back if I'm back in Raleigh!

Yelp
This place was amazing! Clean, bright, warm and welcoming. It felt like we were eating in the owner's kitchen. The ordering was easy and can see them prepare everything from your seats. You can tell a lot of care and love goes into this establishment and it comes out in the food. Everything was fresh and flavorful and on point. They provide a sauce assortment with your order, which again, felt like you were being cared for. My date and I both had the Bandeja Bowl. a It was a delicious South American delight with different meats, flavors and textures. And worth the price. We will be back!

Yelp
This place was a nice Colombian gem in the Raleigh area. There are build your own options or in house recommendation for arepas or bowls. I ordered mondongo soup, chicken empanada and a build your own arepa with shredded chicken, avocado and mozzarella. I was hoping for more avocado on the arepa not just a tiny slice considering is extra but the food is extremely fresh!

Yelp
Muy buena la comida la espera vale la pena todo esta sabroso las empanadas la hamburgers las l arepas y el.pabellon muy bueno y buen servicio lo recomiendo grasias suerte

Yelp
Went in on Christmas eve afternoon for lunch time. The food was delicious! This is more like a fast casual place so anyone walking in you're going to get table service don't expect that. I would definitely come back! They brought our food to the table within minutes even though they were busy. They food, staff and atmosphere was great! They are very nice and fast.

Yelp
These were the worst Arepas we ever had! Dry tasteless and looked like dog food. We both threw them away. I purchased a bottle of water....it was warm! Go to Guesaca or Arepa Culture they make delicious ones.

Yelp
I don't usually make negative comments but this time I didn't like some things, I have visited the arepas a few times, I never looked at the payment receipt but today I did, what I found was really not pleasant, they charge whatever they want for this reason they should check their bills before paying because they steal from your face, otherwise they charge 18.8% for service, they charge the tip when the tip should be voluntary,

Yelp
I came from Florida a year ago and travel miles here in North Carolina to get 1 or 2 ethnic products. My husband is Colombian and I am Cuban. Yesterday we were super homesick and decided to drive 45-50 minutes to this above amazing restaurant. Wow is a tiny word in comparison to how we felt, perhaps overwhelmed and emotional! Amazing! Love the food, the bakery items, the service. Small, very personable and pleasant atmosphere. I give it a 10 but you decide. My husband and I will be back for sure. Oh by the way, we stocked up on Arepas, Pan De Bonos and Colombian bread.... it tastes delicioussss!

Yelp
It was our first time here and I want to disclose I am Colombian so my expectations where high for this place. Unfortunately I was disappointed. I did read some of the reviews before and though there was some negative and positive, I still like to give places an opportunity! So started with the veggie arepa, a side order of tostones, side salad, the chicken, pico de gallo with avocado arepa. A build your own arepa for my nephew, which he wanted black beans, beef and grilled onions and my dad had the steak Al Caballo. First they were out to main things that Colombians love to drink. Manzana soda and maracuya to make a natural juice. So we had water! We had a few disappointed people!! The arepas came out one by one! Not sure if they were short on help but letting a customer know what's going on is always helpful. As each arepa came out I noticed that they didn't really take time on presenting the dish correctly. Meaning if the dish is topped with cilantro, bring the dish out the way it should be served. Cilantro on this particular dish was to be on top not on the bottom of all the other ingredients. The next disappointment was the lack of flavor! This is suppose to be a Colombian spot!! Cmon we love flavor! What happened??! Their dips are good but we need to work on the aji! Aji and pico de gallo are 2 different s sauces!! Also I would say for sanitary reasons they should serve them differently to prevent contamination with the many customers that come in. The waitress was nice and place clean. Not sure if I will come back when I can drive a few more minutes and go to the Venezuelan place.

Yelp
Ive moved here from jersey and finally found a colombian restaurant. Did not disappoint. The food, service, and desserts were spot on and delicious. Definitely will be coming back for more

Yelp
Came for lunch with my coworkers (group of 10) and ordered a variety of dishes, all excellent. Great service and food quality although there were only two staff members cooking, taking to go orders, and serving tables.

Yelp
Stopped by this restaurant this morning by chance. Delighted with the breads and sandwiches and desserts. Absolutely delicious! The service was fast and very courteous. The staff are friendly and informative. This truly is a must visit location for foodies in the research triangle park Raleigh Durham area absolutely a gem.

Yelp
Great food normal price, service was excellent, I enjoyed the different tastes, enough to be different but not enough to be weird. The place looked clean and kept up. The staff was very friendly. I would definitely go back again there's a few things I would like to try

Karen D.

Yelp
Love the food here. Desserts are really great and all homemade. Staff are super nice. Clean resteraunt. They do breakfast bowls which are good as well.

Yelp
This place is under new Ownership and management. I highly recommended giving it a try if you haven't been since. Everything is fresh! Made to order, if it's busy expect a little wait. The arepas with a "Lulo" (drink) is my go to! Shoutout to Don Alex!

Yelp
Finally a good colombian joint to enjoy in Raleigh. My husband and I are happy we gave The Arepa Bar a try! It is a small restaurant with a couple of tables inside and outside, latin music playing in the background and the food is delicious, full of flavor, decent prices, good portions and excellent service! Don Arlex - Im hoping Im not butchering his name - chat with us for a bit, he was so attentive and gave us good ideas on what to order without being pushy but actually genuine. We ordered: The Arepa sampler which is 4 mini arepas with different toppins and beef and chicken empanadas as appetizers which was a good way to start our dinner. Then we got our main dishes: my hubby ordered the Desmechada Arepa and I got the Bandeja Paisa. My husband said the beef in the arepa was really juicy and full of flavour and the Bandeja Paisa was delicious!! The beans were as close as the ones we get back home in Colombia! Sooo good! Very generous portions we had left over to bring back home! Ohh and they have a little bakery as well: Miloja and buñuelos made their way home too ;) We definitely are coming back to try more of their dishes for sure!

Yelp
Best, best arepas I've had in Raleigh. Very nice, clean, very quint atmosphere. Employees super nice and very informative. Overall we had a wonderful dinner. The food was amazing!! So full of Colombian flavor.. will be back soon !!!!

Yelp
This spot is Arepa perfection. Delicious sauces, perfect quality on the food, unique choices and great prices! I had the cuban arepa and tostones- both of which I love in general and they were some of the best ive had. I was missing our favorite Arepa spot from up north and found this one in a yelp search. The positive reviews led me there- and it was worth my 40 plus minute trip to N Raleigh to check it out. Other friends had the ceviche and this meat combo plate with an egg both of which looked and I was told, tasted amazing. Do not skip this little hole in the wall. 5 teeny tables but takeout works too.

Yelp
AMAZING!!! I am not sure where to start. Found this place as we were driving home and stopped for take out. We ordered a variety of food and everything was delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
I'm super super disappointed to leave this review. There are no pics or food tastings why? After driving 45 mins we get there and they tell us they are not taking orders. They want to keep the current customer satisfaction rate up. My husband even called them earlier to confirm their hours, if they had inside seating so it was planned, ready to go! Nope! It's a shame, I really wanted to try some real Colombian food, I guess I'll have to wait until I go see my parents. I want to be so sensitive to the situation all food places and the lack of staff. I'm usually really understanding, today, well today I have a hangry family searching for a place to eat at 8pm on a Friday night! Hope their logistics gets worked out.

Miguel V.

Yelp
El peor servicio de cualquier restaurante. No lo recomiendo. Se tardaron 1 hora para tomar mi orden y se olvidaron. Mejor me fui a comer a otro restaurante.

Yelp
I've eaten here twice in two weeks. Tried an arepa, fries, chicken soup, and the bandeja bowl. All filling, all delicious!

Yelp
We had our second take-our meal from Arepa Bar today and it's our family' new favorite spot! 1.) The online-order process is a snap! 2.) The ladies in the front are LOVELY, just the sweetest. AND, responsible for hand-making our order! 3.) The food is DELICIOUS, tastes homemade, and packaged up beautifully. Our 18-month old's favorite is the chicken and cheese arepa + plantains. As struggling parents of a newly picky eater, we are delighted he gobbled up his lunch. My husband and I split the chicken and beef empanadas (shredded beef, not ground). I had the veggie lovers arepa with pink beans, plantains, cheese. Perfect combination of flavors/textures & salsa verde was a fresh, punchy accent. Hubby had the Cubano arepa w/ pulled pork and cheese-to die for. He said he could eat 3 more! Shared tostones, plantains -perfect. 4.) ALL of our food was gluten free! Highly satisfying to find a gluten free meal that doesn't feel like a sacrifice /compromise. 5.) GREAT DEAL -very reasonably priced for the high level of quality and amount of food. We are making The Arepa Bar a regular on our take-out rotation!
google avatar

Dina D.

Yelp
Very excited to find arepas in the area. Got a takeout order. Ordered Cubano and veggie lover arepas, chicken empanada, arroz Colombiano, arepitas de queso, aborrajadas, and rice pudding. Never had aborrajadas before, and it was delish. It's a sweet plantain and cheese fritter with guava jelly inside. Everything was hot and made fresh. I will be back!

Karen W.

Yelp
Ugh -- bad experience here today. It started when the total was higher than I thought it should be. When I asked to see the receipt (after I paid), I saw that they added a 4% credit card fee on. I was not told about this, there were no signs anywhere, and it was a total shock to me. A very sharp business practice in my mind. I ordered the Caldo de Res which I have been eating for years at El Chapin Restaurant in Durham. It was served after about 10 minutes and was lukewarm. I asked them to put it in a pot and heat it up, which they did, and 10 minutes later I finally got to eat it. Very poor soup. The beef tasted and looked just like corned beef, not short rib beef. They were very few vegetables in the soup other than potatoes. The broth itself was not tasty and looked almost creamed. Did not enjoy the soup at all. I am giving this place two stars because my friend said the arepa was good. Not going back. It's really too bad, I would have loved to find a Central American restaurant somewhere near my house.

Yelp
I tried this place a few weeks ago, i had one of the bowls, I don't remember the name, it was good and i will come back.

Yelp
Just finished up my food that I didn't take a picture of, but it was good! I got two arepas, the carne desmechada (roast beef), and the la campesita (pulled chicken). Restaurant -The restaurant is clean, and the staff seemed friendly - Ordered online and was ready a few minutes early - The food itself was wrapped in paper, foil, and in a box, definitely packaged with care. Food - The arepa shells were good. Could have used a bit of salt, but the chargrill lines were a nice touch. Dense consistency white corn and didn't break apart with the fillings. -The avocado and pico in the chicken arepa were good. Chicken was tender, but could have used a bit more seasoning. All the toppings were at the top of the arepa, so once you got through them, it was just chicken. - The sautéed onions on the carne desmechada were good as well. Mozzarella was good quality. Beef also could have used a bit more flavor, but overall decent. - Both came with a green sauce on the side that I didn't try. Overall, I would recommend you check them out, I'll eat there again for sure.

Yelp
As Hispanic and new to the area I was so excited to try this place due to the reviews, i placed an order for pick up and Uber eats stated ready to be picked up, husband went to pick it up and was told I ordered one item only( order was confused with another order) after going back and forth with my paid order he was told it was not on their system or even accepted, that they will start preparing( according to them they didn't receive or accept my order but they were gonna prepare it anyways after they saw my husband was frustrated) totally unapologetic staff, like they were doing the best by preparing now after my husband assured them and showed them the receipt of my PAID order! Around 10 min already passed they seem not bothered at all for mistaken the order twice, customer service I would give 0 starts if I could, also my husband over heard them saying they were about to close at 6:45 but they advertise 8pm on Google. My husband is the most patient person and he was definitely shock how he was treated and ignored. The food was flavorless coming from Florida where we had so many Colombians restaurants to choose from this place totally felt short, no salsas for the arepas specially when lacking flavor and the little salsa for the empanadas was ok. The chicharrón was definitely just fried pork meat not Colombian chicarrón, as Hispanic I know what chicharrón is and can't be tricked. Due to the lack of customer service we won't be returning, you are not doing a favor to a customer for preparing my paid order, I paid for something it's not a favor in return for something paid! Yes the negatives reviews were correct the place is not worth it.
google avatar

Jacob A.

Yelp
Delicious food, I had the beef empanadas and my girlfriend had one of the beef bowls. Ive eaten lots of Colombian food and this was perfect. The people working were nice and there's a good space to eat inside if you want.

Luzelena R.

Yelp
terrible service! would not recommend. Decided to give them a second chance and they have the rudest attitudes.
google avatar

Gregory R.

Yelp
Second time trying this place and it is absolutely amazing. I had a build your own bowl first and then the La Campesina with Spicy Avocado Sauce. I honestly can't say enough about this place. Also unique soups and drinks that are authentic. If you are looking for something new this is a must try. Family of 4 with sides and drinks about 40 bucks and well worth it. The people are super focused the food is good and you see all kinds of Colombians and Venezuelans frequenting here so you know it's good.
google avatar

Zac T.

Yelp
No flavor. I guess if your are from Colombia and its nostalgic then you'd appreciate it. We got a two arepeas and neither had any flavor. We were hopeful but just disappointed as it appears no salt was used or any other spices! Let alone any other flavors including the green sauce. Try it and have your own opinion! Not bad just not good. We will not return.

Kimberlyn A.

Yelp
I will not lie.. the food is great! Which is why I wanted to come back a second time. BUT the service was absolutely disgusting - it's horrible. Recently, we visited and saw a table outside and asked to sit outside to eat since inside was very busy and they said ok. we sat outside for close to an hour with absolutely no communication and acknowledgement.. we then went inside to the cashier and asked to order the food at the cashier since no one went to our table to ask for our order and they turned us away and said someone would be with us shortly to take our order at the table. So we waited again - the entire time waiting there were about 5-6 other families after us being seated, orders that were taken from them and drinks that were handed to their table, some of them even getting their food. They finally came to our table and took our order for food and drinks, 15 minutes passed and still NO drinks. Enough was enough. We got up and left. 2 hours WASTED.

Yelp
Im from VA I come to Fuquay-Varina to visit my daughter and for the past two years since I found this place I cannot leave without stopping by, highly recommend it, the serving size is very good and at a fair price as well as the flavor and the authenticity of the place itself, I love coming in and seeing the decor as well as the atmosphere; very energetic, you hear the timeless salsa songs you would hear from a Colombian household and the warmth and friendliness of the staff is top notch, I cannot recommend this place enough, if you're in for something new and don't know what to try give this place a try you won't regret it
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
We've been looking for Colombian food for years! This was a great meal that hit the spot. It wasn't exactly like 'mom's' but is a great substitute. I had Churrasco Steak and it was flavorful and tender. The husband had a Bandeja Paisa platter which was (as usual) so much food!
google avatar

Tommy K.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! All of the food is extremely fresh and simple and delicious. It's extremely clean and the staff really has Colombian hospitality down cold. They're wonderful to my kids and take a lot of pride in their food. We've been here several times now and it is very affordable.
google avatar

Caroline A.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING! We ordered 2 carne desmechadas, 2 beef empanadas, and French fries. Best arepas I've had and the French fries were to die for! The restaurant is clean and the service is great, the lady at the front is the sweetest! I will be back for sure:)
google avatar

David J.

Yelp
We found this place by accident. My wife is Colombian and instantly fell in love. Very authentic and great tasting food.

Cory M.

Yelp
So excited we stumbled upon this place!! Everything was delicious, super fresh, and very clean. The staff were wearing masks and were also very friendly! We tried several things, but our favorites were the Cuban Arepa and the Bandeja Bowl. We've tried a lot of the other local arepa and empanada places and this definitely competes- especially in freshness and authenticity! We will be back again soon!!

Svitlana S.

Yelp
Update review. In Friday come again. Ordered two arepas,so delicious, fresh, fast served,in arepas was a lot meat. Come back again. Thanks

Laura S.

Yelp
It was definitely disappointing to see the prices on the menu coming from my husband and I that usually eat Colombian in Charolette. Prices are way to high for the food in our opinion. $8 for TWO empanadas???? Like what? I'm just leaving 3 stars because the staff was nice and the arepa I had was good. But the prices? For sure not coming back.
