I recently moved out of The Ashland this month and wanted to share the incredible experience I had during my time there. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by the warm and attentive staff, including the handymen, resident manager, concierge, and porters. Every interaction felt personal, and it was clear that they genuinely cared about the residents. Whenever I needed assistance, whether it was a quick fix or just some advice on the area, they were always willing to help. Their dedication and kindness made me feel like more than just a tenant – I felt like part of a community. As I move on to the next chapter of my life, I will always cherish my time at The Ashland, many thanks to the wonderful people who work there. If you’re considering a place to stay, I can’t recommend The Ashland enough. Thank you all for making my time there so special!

As a resident of Ashland, I truly enjoy my experience here. The front desk staff and porters are exceptional, always providing great service. Resident manager Beni and the handyman are quick to respond to work orders, ensuring that repairs are addressed promptly. The Ashland management team keeps all residents well-informed about building updates and activities, which I really appreciate. Overall, we love living at Ashland!

I am writing to share about my experience working with Humberto to lease an apartment. Humberto was so helpful in the process. I had many questions and he answered them promptly, and was unbothered by the amount of them. Meeting him in person was the icing on the cake. He has a bubbly personality that made me genuinely excited to be living at the Ashland. He is clearly a dedicated worker and I would recommend anyone to work with him when looking to lease at the Ashland. Thank you, Humberto!

I recently toured the Ashland with Shaida and I immediately fell in love with the building. When you first walk in, you notice the attention to detail in the design and also the maintenance. The front desk staff was very friendly and professional. Everything was fresh and clean, and they even have a refreshing custom lobby fragrance! The application process was super smooth and the entire leasing team was a pleasure to work with! Hats off to an incredible building and staff!

It was an absolute pleasure working with Humberto during the process of securing an apartment at The Ashland. He went above and beyond to provide outstanding service. Not only is he highly professional and prompt in his responses, but he also took the initiative to address my questions, even outside of regular working hours, ensuring I felt supported throughout the process. Humberto’s remarkable dedication, clear communication, and extensive knowledge of the property and procedures made what could have been a stressful experience seamless and straightforward. He demystified the entire process and provided quick, accurate answers that put me at ease. His exceptional service truly stands out, and I can’t recommend him enough!

It makes me sad to write this because the staff here are amazing, but this building seems to be deteriorating and/or poorly built even though it looks nice from the outside - BEWARE! the elevator situation has been horrifying and management seems to do nothing to remedy it. I’ve lived here for 3+ years now and one or more elevators are always out. Most of the past 3 months, 18 floors have relied on 1 small elevator. Earlier this year, there were no working elevators for lower levels and only one elevator for upper level floors (another 20+ floors) was working, resulting in literally 1 hour+ waits during rush hour for people to get into their homes and lines outside the door. Management continuously says they’re “waiting for a part to come in” and there’s zero transparency on when these issues will stop. It’s gotten to a point where I’m used to waiting at least 10-15 minutes for an elevator everyday and that’s inexcusable. Additionally, the walls are paper thin - i had a smoke issue from neighboring unites that persisted even after i covered up my vents and was told that smoke seeps through the walls… UPDATE: The negative reviews have pressured management into finally telling us that it will take another 3-6 months. so potentially a total of 9 months with one working elevator for 18 floors. what a joke!!!

My Granny has lived in the Ashland for a few years now, and through the ups and downs of life, (especially the elevator situation) the front desk and management has always done their best. Elizabeth, who handles her renewal for the past 3 years has always been kind and patient in answering any questions I have. She is always trying to make the process smooth. My family is happy to continue to do business with them.

Yelp
Wouldn't recommend this building for my worst enemy. Customer service is horrendous, the elevators for the high rise apartments have been dysfunctional for months, and I had an untreated gas leak. I would have broken my lease sooner if I could. Horrible

Yelp
I can absolutely vouch for the below post. The elevators have been a constant issue over my 3 years living here. If it wasn't such a pain to move, I would have already done so. The issues rotate between the high rise and the low rise (although sometimes impacts both concurrently). Hard to say who is at fault but seems like owners simply will not spend the money needed for a permanent fix. Recently one of the two low rise elevators was down completely for 3+ weeks. It came back online and has since broken again. Has been down for 3 days and counting. Updates from management are very vague. No credits are given for these inconveniences. With all the new product coming into the neighborhood, not sure how anyone could honestly recommend this building given the elevator issues.

Yelp
I've lived at The Ashland for nearly a year, and have been so so happy with my experience so far. The location is ideal, sandwiched between a few grocery stores, Ft Greene Park, a ton of subway options, and great Brooklyn neighborhoods. The building itself is meticulously maintained, clean, and the common areas are wonderful (gym, grills, laundry room, patios, etc). I felt compelled to write this review because COVID has of course made day to day life more stressful, but in these times I'm even more appreciative of the staff at The Ashland. Everyone at the front desk is amazing -- they remember your name and apartment number (how?? Magic.), they're always super friendly and funny, and have been in overdrive wiping down elevator buttons, wearing masks, and ensuring everyone in the building is safe. Our community manager, Johnny, is also A+. While I really loved the in person events before all this madness, the digital events he's arranged have been fantastic! I've attended a virtual embroidery class (with materials provided by the building, enough for the class and many many embroideries more) as well as a cooking class hosted by the head chef at Colonia Verde -- it included all the food materials needed AND a cocktail. Like, amazing. I'm so so pleased with the building. It's certainly not a cheap option, but I encourage those who can afford it to also consider the value of friendly, trustworthy, and truly caring staff who make this high rise feel like a community. And...the views ain't bad either. See photos!

Yelp
It's hard to describe how bad of an experience living at the Ashland has been. The first year I was here things we're pretty good - friendly staff, decent amenities, and generally safe atmosphere. However, since COVID-19, the management company has gone out of there way to squeeze existing tenants beyond reason & morality. Here is an outline of my situation & how I have been treated. After living at the Ashland for 18 months, my lease was up for renewal, which happened to occur in April/May 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in NYC. I spoke to my leasing agent that moving didn't feel very safe (due to the pandemic), but I was also in a precarious employment situation (also due to the pandemic). I was assured that I would be able to assign my lease if times got tough, as "many tenants" had been able to do that successfully. Well fast forward 4 months, I am now unemployed, and unable to assign my lease as Gotham Properties decided to lower the rent for new renters effectively undercutting my ability to sublet or assign my lease. Subsequently, I offered to pay the company two months of rent + my security deposit to let me out of my lease early so that I could find a more affordable place to live. This request was denied and I was subsequently informed I would incur any legal fees if I tried to exit on my own. Long story short, it's a decent building, but Gotham Properties has proven to be even more heartless than their commercial & private equity counterparts such as Related Companies, Two Trees Management, or Dermot. If you are viewing an apartment in this building, just walk across the street to 66 Rockwell for a significantly better experience.

Yelp
Even though nobody will read this, I need to respond to Mr. everything is dirty at the Ashland on 6/26/2020. The area outside with all the butts, bums and garbage is not part of the building property. In addition almost everyone goes there to smoke and let their dogs leave their wet droppings that can't be bagged for disposal, especially when the weather is nasty. The building had to tell the tenants to stop letting their dogs piss on the concrete planters that line the building entry. So it's the people who don't care, not the building. As for the picture of the dirty laundry room, the laundry is outsourced and technically not the building's responsibility. And if a tenant makes a mess, the leasing office is literally 12 inches away from the laundry. They could stick a head in and politely ask them to call someone to clean it up. I'd bet $100 they'd say sure and Thanks for telling us. I really like it here and my very few problems are definitely first world. If you want to live here and can pay the price and be respectful of the property, check it out.
