Izakaya Replaces Bar Boulud Burgers at Mandarin Oriental Knightsbridge | Eater London

"Set to replace Daniel Boulud’s recently closed American burger restaurant, this upcoming Japanese restaurant and bar is described as an eccentric izakaya that showcases traditional Japanese cooking techniques and a focus on sustainable, locally sourced produce. Expect a sushi section alongside judiciously seasoned prime cuts given grill time—catering to local tastes for high-quality protein, raw fish, and citrus—plus two separate bars with distinctive, creative cocktail menus intended to provide culturally rich drinking experiences. Backed by Hong Kong–based Maximal Concepts making its U.K. debut, the concept promises a fully immersive blend of art and design with high-quality drinks and innovative dining, and is scheduled to open in the new year." - Adam Coghlan

The vibes was good, the sashimi was good too but we found the fish bone in the sashimi that shouldn't be happened in sashimi. I love the fresh wasabi but I hope it will be have more. The sauces in each dishes were too salty that I can't taste the original seafood taste. I expected the wagyu should be melted in the mouth because of the fat of the wagyu but it was too chewing for this signature dish. I appreciated it was pet friendly however as a 5 starts hotel restaurant, I would expect more in the ingredients and tastes. A Little bit disappointed for the tastes with that price. As with seafood dishes it would be always with less sauce to let customer to taste the freshness of the seafood.

Amazing food! You can taste authentic Japanese flavours and some of the dishes have a slight wester/international spin, adding that international umami flavour. Great service and beautiful location!

Dark and atmospheric restaurant serves high end Japanese. Very good. The music was a bit loud, the atmosphere felt more old school English than Japanese. Food was great.

For the decor, ambience and extremely good service, the food was underwhelming. From the 10 or so items we ordered only 4 were worth mentioning as being decent, the rest lacked flavour or weren’t seasoned properly. We’ve had a lot better food for a lot less money and you have to consider this when the bill was that high - Michelin star pricing without the quality. I would recommend anyone coming for an evening out for drinks (the wine list was fantastic) and nibbles, but not anything substantial as would not be worth it.

Karage chicken was yum and interesting as it was black and didn’t feel super fried but was still crispy, sushi roll and pork delicious and fun desserts. The crab leg was super expensive and not really worth the price as it was kind of plain in taste as well. Looks cool but I wouldn’t recommend ordering. Service was lovely and vibes very nice.

Food tasted like a chain restaurant, service was not good took 30 mins to get served a drink and constantly having to go to the bar to get service, the average food came cold and small portions didn’t match price, table was guaranteed for 2 hours but were asked to hurry and leave after 1.5 hours due to another booking coming in (this was then sorted with another waiter and we didn’t have to wait). All in all just completely not worth the money.

I came to visit my son in London and we spent our last night at the Aubrey. The restaurant was exceptional, from service to food! Tried the lobster popcorn, prawn tempura, lobster fried rice, and wagyu fried rice, everything was incredible! The lobster popcorn was crispy and flavourful, the tempura perfectly light, and both fried rices were rich and full of umami. Great quality, beautiful presentation, and worth every bite!
