Where to Have Afternoon Tea in San Diego | Eater San Diego

"Nestled in the La Mesa Antiques district AubreyRose has been serving its English-style tea since 2003. The Queen Victoria ($31.95) and Lady Anne ($28.95) each come with a selection of sandwiches, savories, seasonal fruit, scones, and petite sweets, plus unlimited loose-leaf tea. There’s a walk-in only cream tea too ($16.95) while a glass of Champagne can be added for $7." - Keri Bridgwater

Google
ArbouryRose is a really cool spot if you’re into a classic tea experience. The place has an old-school, vintage vibe with fancy china and a cozy setup that makes it feel pretty unique. Good finger sandwiches, tasty scones, and some nice pastries to go along with a big selection of teas. It’s a nice place to relax, especially if you’re looking for something different from the usual coffee shop or bar scene. Definitely worth checking out if you’re into tea or just want a laid-back spot to hang out.

Google
We took my daughter to the AubreyRose Tea Room last weekend. She had always wanted to go to "fancy English tea" and the entire experience was amazing. There was potato leek soup, a variety of savory and sweet small bites, and unlimited tea pots. They even have fancy hats you can wear. Everyone was very nice and not snooty at all. We will definitely be back.

Scheduled an afternoon tea to celebrate my best friends birthday. We were a little frazzled because we didn’t know La mesa changed the parking lot to paid parking and we didn’t bring coins so we had to find street parking. If you know a tea lover i highly recommend having them come here for afternoon tea! The place was decorated brightly and they offer different hats if you’d like to wear them during tea time. Plenty of cute tea cups and all items needed for tea time for purchase. Our waitress was great, highly knowledgeable in the tea opens and great with suggestions. She stayed on top of keeping our teapots filled and moving us through the courses. I will definitely be back to try more teas and for the delicious accompaniments with the tea. I highly recommend the almond tea and loved all of the savory options.

Google
A sweetly decorated tea room on the main drag in la mesa. Went for a friend's birthday. Many delicious flavors of tea served in beautiful tea cups and tea pots. The savory's and pastries were delightful and beautifully displayed. The staff was helpful and kind. We quite enjoyed ourselves.

Google
Small location, very proper on high tea. Street parking with meters or a free municipal parking lot at 3rd off lemon ave. Different tea flavors, sandwiches, light fate, savory and sweet 😋 snacks. Soup was cream of broccoli, very tasty.

Google
This place exceeded my expectations. The atmosphere, decorations, dishes were beautiful. The tea was some of the best tea I have ever tasted. Aubrey Rose and Peaches and Cream were to die for. The tower of goodies were all delicious as well. The service was 10/10!! It was worth the price. Thank you for an amazing experience I will be back :)

Google
It’s so difficult to describe how amazing this experience was. The food and desserts were so delicious. Please give the eggplant and red pepper soup a try, you won’t regret it. The tea selection was so good that I bought some to take home. I recommend Strawberry Fields and Paris, they’re definitely a must try. The tea room also has hats prepared for you to try on to enhance your experience. Overall, I can’t wait to come back again. This would be a really great gift to someone who enjoys drinking tea and feeling like a princess/queen.

Google
I've been wanting to try Aubrey Rose for a while because I'd always walk by it. I've never been to a tea room before. I think it's really cute for sure. They have a large tea selection and you get 2 pots of tea at a time. I like the chilled melon "soup" which was like sorbet or something like that. I also enjoyed the savory part of the tower. The cucumber sandwiches and the cheesy toast were great. The sweets though didn't really do it for me and maybe I just don't like that type of sweet. I tend to think scones are dry but they do come with lemon curd and cream. Anyway, maybe tea isn't really my thing or just a once in a while thing but I still enjoyed the experience. The service was very attentive. Parking is pretty easy if you park in the large lot a street over.

Yelp
Such a fun and unique way to spend a girl's day or special event. The staff was so friendly I loved how nice and accommodating they were. The room itself is super cute and makes you feel like you're at your grandma's house. The food itself was actually good - I didn't know what to expect but I enjoyed everything I ate. It was also pretty filling even though it didn't feel like a lot of food. It's unlimited tea so we were able to try a few different ones which I enjoyed. Would definitely come again!

Yelp
I have been to many afternoon tea rooms around San Diego but Aubrey Rose Tea Room has impressed me for several of reasons: - They are open 4 days a week. Another tea house I know is only open 3 days. - They take online reservations. Other places do phone reservations only. - It is about than $42 for afternoon tea. Other places charge at least $10-20 more. After tip for 2 people our total came out to $110. - This is by far the biggest tea room I have been to. There are over 20 seats. This is a two hour dining experience. I arrived a bit late but they were still able to accommodate me. It is located on a main street in La Mesa with other neighboring shops. There is plenty of parking as there is a lot behind the building. However the parking around here (even on the street) is all metered so make sure you bring your quarters! Let's talk about the actual food and tea. There were so many choices of tea to choose from. We were able to choose 2 at a time and switch them out at any point. Our tray of assortments were absolutely delicious and so much food that we ended up taking to-go boxes home. This is the perfect place to go if you want to catch up with a friend over some light food and I can also see this as a great place to go and celebrate an occasion.

Yelp
Absolutely love coming to Aubrey Rose Tea Room every time I'm in the area. They have a preset afternoon tea menu where you can order unlimited pots of tea (two at a time). So many of these teas are delicious. Some of my favorites are the Kyoto Rose, Strawberry Fields, Buccaneer, Once Upon a Tea, and Almond Delight. The prefixed menu changes, but they always start with the house blend tea, a soup/appetizer, and then a three tier set with sandwiches, scones, pastries and other desserts. The portion size is great - I always struggle to make it through the dessert round and am always left full. The place is cute, classy, and enchanting. They even have a bunch of extravagant hats in the back that you can try on and even wear for your tea experience. I highly recommend making reservations as they book quickly. The pricing is around $45 per person, and is definitely more affordable than other tea places I've visited (usually see around $60 without unlimited tea options).

Yelp
Went here because I was just itching to experience having a cute little tea party with my girlfriends, so one of my girlfriends secured a reservation and we even took her sweet 3 year old daughter with us and it was a BLAST! I love that there's always a prix fixe menu of delightful sandwiches, various pastries, and desserts and that they even go so far as to personalize a super cute name card with everyone included. Our littlest guest also had a fun time just munching on the fruit and simplified sandwich for her, so if you're thinking of taking younger guests, just do it! Their tea selection was also excellent and we stayed with the house blend, and loved the strawberry kiwi tea also. Would absolutely come here again for the vibes and delicious arrangements. The service is also amazing - every server we had was excellent and super kind. I appreciate the time they take out too, to answer questions and explain every tier of what you're getting.

Yelp
Adorably quaint tearoom in downtown La Mesa with lots of character. Service is up to two hours and costs $45 per adult, reservations recommended (unsure if they allow walk-ins but there were a couple empty seats). Excellent selection of teas, I really enjoyed the Chaucer's Cup and Marrakech Chai, but all I tried were lovely. The soup was a cream of celery and absolutely delicious, the savories and pastries were nice. Very nice service and I'd return for another afternoon tea in the future.

Yelp
I had a fabulous time enjoying afternoon tea with my girl friends. We sampled so many teas since it's "bottomless" for the two hours. The first course was a soup, followed by the three tier display of scones, sandwiches, cookies, and other treats. The space is well decorated to make you feel like you're transported to a traditional tea room. The serve ware and teapots were all unique which gave an authentic feel. Really loved the experience overall, it's worth it for a fun time with friends or family!

Yelp
Incredible experience! I used to live near London so I LOVE high tea and this is a super cute place to get some in San Diego! The service is excellent and everyone there seems to be having a good time. The interior is Victorian themed and they have really cute uniforms and tea sets. They even have hats you can borrow! The food was ok, but the tea selection was amazing and it's all you can drink!

Yelp
Had the loveliest time celebrating our annual holiday tea! this was our first time visiting this tea room, and we can confidently say it instantly became one of our favorites!! The decor was perfect for the holidays, the entire staff was so helpful and kind, the tea was so yummy and never ending! and the food portions were vast and delicious. We had a wonderful time and cannot wait to come back next year!!!

Yelp
What a special experience! Celebrated my birthday here with dear friends (33 with tea)! ;) Ambiance was on-point. They have all these different hats that you can wear to go with the afternoon tea setting. How fun! Service was astounding! Unlimited tea. Amazing! 4-star rating is because I felt the food fell flat (pastries were a little dry). But all considering, had such a great time. Would definitely come again. :)

Yelp
An absolutely luxurious and relaxing experience. It has been a dream of mine and my best friend to have afternoon tea here together for years, and we finally got to live out that dream today. When you plan your visit, dress up and get excited to try on all the fancy hats for the ultimate experience. When we arrived, the table was set with a welcome card for us, as well as a pot of their house blend. From there, we got to try UNLIMITED pots of tea within our 2-hour tea time and were served a soup appetizer, tea sandwiches, savory scones, cranberry orange scones with clotted cream, and mini desserts. Our server was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable; she was sure to let us know which teas absolutely should not have milk (Chaucer's Cup) and ones that she highly recommends with milk (Florence). We enjoyed: - The House Blend - Buckingham Palace - Chaucer's Cup - Paris - French Countryside - Florence Highly recommend this experience to anyone who will be near La Mesa.

Yelp
This is a really nice way to spend time with good company. The soup at the start was really surprisingly good. The teas ofcourse were delicious and too many to choose from. The food and the desserts were really good and plentiful. We loved the decor and the service and the eclectic collection of tea pots.

Yelp
What an adorable tea room! Highly recommend Aubrey Rose for anyone looking to celebrate a special event or if you're just feeling extra fancy. The tea selection is fantastic; the tea menu gives a lovely description of each flavor profile and also offers decaf options. The high tea pre-set menu rotates seasonally and boasts a variety of sweet and savory goodies. I absolutely loved everything and was especially impressed how they handled my food allergy (swapped the bourbon in the bread pudding with maple syrup). Oftentimes I just resign myself to missing out on certain things, but the thoughtfulness of their kitchen was very much appreciated! They also have fun hats you can borrow while you enjoy your tea time. They are located on the wall towards the back of the tea room. Definitely a surprising delight! In addition to a wonderful tea service, there are so many adorable tea and home related things that you can buy, many of which are hand-made. Lastly, be sure to make a reservation as space is limited. Parking is aplenty up and down the high street and there is a mini-lot out back. I will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
This is the absolute best afternoon tea ever. The service is stellar. We enjoyed the superb treats on the tiered tea tray. The tea is always strong and beautiful described and taste, smell are delicious.

Yelp
Amazing experience! I had a very vague concept of what afternoon tea / high tea was but one of my closest friends planned to bring me and my gf for our birthdays and now I can't wait to go back. Food: UNLIMITED TEA. They have so many flavors and I loved pretty much all the ones we tried. The afternoon tea food course started off with a small sandwich and a cantaloupe "soup" that was more of a slushee texture that was perfect since we were outside and it was a warm day. Then came the 3-tiered tray that had an assortment of savory and sweet pastries, sandwiches, and fruit. We found out everything is made in-house and they change the menu every month. Came in thinking it wouldn't be much to eat but it actually was a great amount! Service: Our waitress, Aaliyah (don't know if that's the correct spelling), was the best. Continuously checked up on us and was fun to talk to in general. She recommended us teas to try and one of them ended up being one of my top 2. Ambiance: We had to sit outside cause of a private event that took the entire inside room but it was fine since it was a nice day. Got to check out the inside though and it is really spacious and definitely gives the whole elegant tea-time vibe. The best part is they have a wall of fun hats that you can choose from to bring out all your posh, tea-time personalities! Water: Option of regular water or an infused water. I believe it was a strawberry infused water when we went but I just remember it was great and we got regular refills.

Yelp
I wanted to leave a review because I did enjoy my experience dining here. The service was very attentive. I can't quite rate the ambience since they sent me outside under a tree by the street. I did not have the full tea room experience I was looking for unfortunately. I was quite upset because I recall booking an indoor table. Then when I got to the location, they sat us outside under the tree where leaves falling. so close to the street cars pull right beside us as we dined. I felt for the amount of money spent on this experience, I did not appreciate being forced to sit outside. I was also gaslighted when I tried to challenge it with the hosted. I thought most of the tea I samples were delicious. The food was scarce and I felt left me wanting. Though it was great to being able to experience little nibbles of treats, but sometimes I wanted a little more than just a bite-size of one item. maybe that's just me. also, the table was supposed to be reserved for us she said but the table reservation name plate Had someone else's name on it, not my name or my reservation . so I felt that the hostess saw us as only two folks and thought why not just sit them outside even though I didn't want to. to be honest, if you want to have the full experience of this place sit inside if you're even allowed.

Yelp
I had been tasked with finding a venue to host a Mother-Daughter Tea event for a party of 35 women (range of ages) and found this establishment while performing my initial research. From my very first interaction with Renda, I felt like this would be the perfect place, considering her professionalism, excellent communication, transparency concerning pricing, location and offerings. We decided to move forward with Renda and her team and were very excited to offer our group the experience of the special Mother's Day 5-course Victorian Tea. We booked well in advance, but Renda made the process extremely easy, always promptly answering any questions and returning phone calls immediately. Fast-forward to the day of. Renda was so gracious to allow early seating for many of our guests who had arrived early. I received multiple rave reviews concerning the ambiance, meal, tea, and the amazing service! Everybody truly enjoyed themselves and had nothing but fantastic things to say! This is the perfect place for a tea party, girl's day, or a tea experience for everyone! They even offer a gluten free menu! If I could reward 10 stars I would! A very very special thank you to Renda and the entire staff for making this such a successful and memorable event! We truly appreciate it!

Yelp
We chose it because we needed a place that had afternoon tea on a Thursday. So glad we did! The food was great without being too fussy. It was beautifully presented and even had a few seasonal items. The Service was super friendly and the tea was unlimited. We tried so many different flavors. The tea room is located in a quaint little area of downtown La Mesa. Everything about it was lovely.

Yelp
My mom and I had the best time having tea at the AubreyRose Tea Room! The ambiance is very classy and is well decorated! It is exactly what you'd want for a tea experience. The food was delicious and the tea was yummy too! There were plenty of options- and we had fun trying all different kinds! I often gravitate towards black teas and we Ioved the Paris tea and the AubreyRose tea. The service was wonderful and we saw that this is the perfect location for kids and adults, and for all different occasions. I would highly recommend! And I plan to go back and continue to share this experience with others!

Yelp
Love love love! Great service, a beautiful tea room, and delicious snacks. They have a great tea variety and all are very good. I went during the holidays and it was absolutely beautiful! Will definitely be going again.

Yelp
I could not love this place more! I've been more times than I can count and I've never been disappointed. The food is a culinary delight, absolutely delicious and very filling. You get unlimited tea of 30? Different flavors and the service is top notch. We celebrate all of our birthdays here and it's always so special and fun!

Yelp
The experience was delightful. Renda was extremely kind and made sure to that we were accommodated so that we could be safe. It was a lot of fun. Thank you again Renda for being kind, patient, understanding, & accommodating. Thank you to everyone who I spoke to and/or emailed/messaged on yelp for making today extra special for us!

Yelp
The Aubrey tea room is charming, casual and tasty - with a long list of teas that I enjoyed. The chill atmosphere makes this a perfect entry level tea room for maybe a first timer, good for a small group or a great place to bring your kid for their first time. It's the kind of place that is approachable, and would set a future tea house lover off on a good first footing. I would not call it cozy, because the room can actually get pretty loud with groups chatting and having a great time. It's not pretentious, despite the super satisfying cottage core decor. They pour their signature hour tea to begin if you'd like and then check your pots to make sure they're hot, switching out your selections as you'd like. An expected tower of treats arrives, and the food offerings rotate. For folks with dietary restrictions, its likely helpful to know that they can accommodate Gluten-Free, Vegetarian and Nut-Free but are unable to create a Vegan or Dairy-Free option. Beyond a holiday, the cost is 35.95 for adults which I felt was reasonable. You DO need a reservation (always) and throughout May they'll be serving their Mother's Day tea on the weekends. (May 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 18th, 19th, 20th & 21st) it is about 10$ per person more than the normal price but it's unclear on if that's just a premium for the holiday or if something extra is included. In terms of food quality, I felt the savory items won out in terms of flavor over the desserts. I'd love to see them partner with a local business to elevate the sweet bites. We have so many amazing bakeries and patisseries in SD, I think they could bring them in and have a slam dunk. I'm not sure if they bake items in house or order them from a supplier, but beyond the scone, I'll leave you to judge what's worth the calories. Service is kind and lovely, this place is a staple.

Yelp
Absolutely loved our time at AubreyRose!! Everything was wonderful, the ambiance, the tea, the treats, the servers! The owners are so sweet and really love what they do and it shows! We came for a mother daughter tea with our soccer team and it was so fun. The girls loved dressing up and having a fancy tea party! Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
As always, Aubrey Rose never fails in hospitality. My party and I were transported to another world where the ambiance took you to a time in the past where the little things made impact moments. The bottomless tea definitely relaxes ones senses and the finger sandwiches were absolutely delicious. Definitely making this a regular.

Yelp
Aubrey Rose Tea Room is a fun experience if you want to catch up with your friends. They offer a variety of favors to try. The soup with the croissant was my favorite. Everything was nice and simple. Our waitress was friendly and wanted to make this experience great for my friends and I. Just wish the decor could be elevated a little bit.
google avatar

Yelp
This is my second visit to Aubrey Rose and I can't say enough about it! Cute decor that really sets the stage for "High Tea" Each tea comes with unlimited tea and I definitely recommend "Buccaneer"! It was delicious! The tower of pastries that comes with each tea is amazing! different pastries and fruit and small sandwiches along with the most amazing pumpkin soup! Such a fun idea for a birthday or a girls outing.

Yelp
I like this place a lot more than all the other ones I've tried in San Diego (Shakespeare, coral tree house, fairmont in Del Mar, hotel del Coronado) The service was great and I love the variety of miniatures they served. I like that you can rotate teas so you're not only limited to just what you and your partner ordered. I also love the feel of this place it really does make a great environment for tea time.
google avatar

Sandi R.

Yelp
I thoroughly enjoyed our visit to AubreyRose Tea Room. The ambience was quaint, just as I imagined it would be. The house blend of tropical tea (peach, mango, apple, orange & guava) was my favorite as it was very aromatic. We also tried the Buccaneer tea, but I couldn't really taste the coconut or chocolate. The 3 tiered tray was a very nice presentation. I was pleasantly surprised that the soup (red pepper & squash) and savory dishes were very tasty and of course the assortment of sweet treats (muffins, scones, cookies & bread pudding) were divine.
google avatar

Grace N.

Yelp
Enjoyed a wonderful mother-daughter afternoon tea at this cute establishment. We were greeted immediately and warmly upon arrival. They had an amazing selection of teas to sample and savor. Our favorites were the original AubreyRose, Strawberry Field, and Buckingham Palace. The variety of finger sandwiches, scones and desserts was also really nice. You gotta try the whipped cream that came with the scones! So rich and creamy and not overly sweet at all. The bread pudding was divine. All the teas are available for purchase at $10.95 per 2oz bag. Overall, a fantastic tea experience. Will definitely come back for more.
google avatar

Yelp
The cutest little tea room!! My friend and I brought our moms here for a Mother's Day celebration. There was a preset menu that came out in courses. We had free flowing tea and could try any tea from their selection. The staff recommended a tea and we gave it a try! All the teas were amazing. At the table, they have a tiered serving tray with fresh scones, English cookies and cucumber sandwiches. Everything was delicious! My friend and I are obsessed with cucumber sandwiches so we were so excited. It was the perfect way to celebrate our moms and can't wait to come back here again!
google avatar

Camille H.

Yelp
It is so cute in here! The little treats were all delicious and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. You need to make a reservation in advance. They do full, sit down teas at 11am and 2pm on certain days of the week. The table is reserved for your party for 2 hours. The whole restaurant is seated at roughly the same time. Everything ran very smoothly and service was well-paced. You start with a soup course (red pepper squash-delicious!) and then you are served a tray with many different sweet and savory snacks. One for each person in your party. They even put a little placecard at our table with our names on it. It was a special touch. The table can try 2 teas at a time and we ended up being able to try 6 different ones which were all delicious. My personal favorites were the "peaches and cream" and the "Buckingham palace". My only complaint is they don't really have options for those with dietary restrictions. They ask if there are any on the reservation page but they couldn't really accommodate them. One member of our party was vegan and she just got a fruit plate. Disappointing for her.
google avatar

Mae O.

Yelp
Metered parking. Sunday parking free. My first time experiencing a tea party. I think they only take reservations. It was really busy and loud inside. We were seated outside and it was pretty chilly. Good thing we were having hot tea! We were able to choose 4 different teas at a time and it was unlimited tea. My favorites were the AubreyRose, Cha Cha Chai and Strawberry Fields. I love the different designs and styles of the teapots and the sugar cubes. The soup was smooth and flavorful. I believe it was an eggplant bisque with roasted bell peppers. The 3 Tiered Tea Tray was just okay. There were a few good things on there. The cucumber sandwich, egg sandwich, the fruits and dessert scone. The dessert on the top tier were not a hit for me. Sugar overload and one of the dessert was pretty chalky.

Yelp
Absolutely love this Tea Room. Pixie was a gem. She consistently check on our table, making sure we had all we needed. My first tea room where it started with a delicious soup. Unlimited teas to try & amazing finger sandwiches, and deserts.

Yelp
I haven't been to this place since before the pandemic. The food was mediocre and over-priced. The service was amazing. I do like all the little things in the room and the cozy decorations.

Yelp
OMG! such a hidden gem in La mesa. I am surprised nobody told me about it before. Cutee as hell. Perfect for a girld day out. Birthday. Stylish cute and the owner were very attentive to each detail. Loved it for sure. Honestly did not think the pictures online does this place its justice. Finger food all great and soup delicious. So many tea choices. I liked alot of them. You can try as many. Parking was not hard. There is a big parking lot in the back of the street.

Yelp
It was very cute and a perfect place for someone or a couple or a family gathering or even a bigger group for an event! It's a great place where you can enjoy your teas with all kinds of flavors that goes really good with cute small bites of everything on the tiers. Mini sandwiches to all small treats like fruits and pantries. It never makes it heavy so it was great!!!

Yelp
Lovely place for a cup of tea and a little more. I was in the area and wanted to try this place. It is sharing inside and I love the decorations. Service was nice too. I order a tisana and it wasn't what I was expecting. All I could taste was water. I got it replaced for a simple tea. I order the option that comes with a couple of pastries. Like a miniature scone and a cookie. I didn't like it too much, it wasn't anything special for the price. I am glad I tried this place but doubt I will go back. Food it's not amazing as well as the teas but it looks really cute inside and service was nice too. If you are in the area, please try it out and let us know your experience. I wish you a lovely one. Happy tea time!

Cynthia C.

Yelp
What can I say but WOW! We've known about this place for years, and I had planned to take my mother there so many times and we finally did. It has the cutest decor, perfect for a tea room. The wait staff was exceptional, and knew just how often to come by, etc. The teas are out of this world (we bought several to take home), and the food was ample, tasty, and beautifully displayed. There was enough food to fill everyone up (we had three men in our party). My mother (82 yr old) had a wonderful time, so it was a perfect event. Could not have asked for more, loved it.

Yelp
Food: First off, know what you're expecting. This is not an all you can eat buffet and it probably won't fill you up, but that's not the point. It's an experience and a fun one at that! Not sure how they brew their teas, but they are VERY flavorful! We tried, I think, 5 different ones. They were all good! The Aubrey Rose is a solid flavor if you're not a huge tea drinker, but I liked the almond one. Now for the food... they had a carrot soup which was robust and flavorful. I loved every little pastry they brought! Chocolate cake, eclairs, bread pudding, scones, garlicky-bread rolls, egg salad sandwiches... everything was so good. I can honestly not say what was my favorite. Service: Our Server lady was so sweet and attentive! They all seemed like it. All of the waitresses seemed like a giant family, they all seemed like they enjoyed their jobs. No complaints on any of the service. Atmosphere: Probably one of the biggest things - it's a cute English-style tea room! My daughter also noticed that the tables all had different sets of plates/cups. And presentation was where it was at! A cute 3-tier pastry tray, classic tea kettles, you name it. Any young girl or even if you're older... who cares... it works for everyone! Price: Probably the only downside, but like I said, you know what you are getting into when you reserve a time. Its 40$ flat price per adult, so a family of 4 racks up fast. But again, it's the EXPERIENCE and everything was spot on, so I didn't mind making my daughter happy on her birthday. Overall: This place was incredible, my family was just so happy coming here. It was such a great experience and I have to thank the Aubrey Rose cafe for making the experience memorable! I want to come back with other family members so I can show them how cool of a place it was.

Yelp
Came for a large group event. Delicious food and many tea options. Tea pots, glassware, and cutlery are very cute and vintage-like. I'd love to come again!

Yelp
I never venture to La Mesa but headed there this afternoon for an event at Aubrey Tea room. The entire tea room was taken over by our party of 60 women. Parking was a breeze and lots of options available around the area. The place was so adorable and well set up for all of us. The teas were really good and not the ordinary tea flavors you find at the super market. And the food - everything that I tasted from the scones to sandwiches to the bread pudding was just delicious. And then the service - teas were offered and poured, food was served with a smile. Highly recommend this gem of a place - already thinking about how I can get my girlfriends together for our next outing to this lovely place.

Yelp
What a lovely experience from start to finish! We enjoyed tea as a party of 3 celebrating a birthday. We were escorted to a table with a personalized sign wishing the birthday girl happy birthday. A pot of tea and cookies were already in place as we were seated. They have an impressive selection of teas, and we were thrilled to learn we could try as many varieties as we wanted. We had 6 pots of tea! The Aubrey Rose house blend was wonderful, but the Paris blend was our favorite. And as suggested by our server, the Almond tea was perfect to finish our meal. There is plenty of food at this tea service so come hungry! The meal started with a delicious soup and a savory croissant, followed by the 3-tiered stand with finger sandwiches, savory bites, scones, fruit, and mini-desserts. Each bite was delicious! Our server was wonderful! Friendly and attentive throughout, her cheery personality definitely added to the positive experience! When we were finished, the server asked the birthday girl which tea was her favorite then surprised her with a complimentary small bag of her favorite blend. We visited between Christmas and New Year's so we got the Holiday Tea service that also included a mini eggnog and candy cane. The tea room was festively decorated for Christmas and had adorable tea-related items for sale in addition to take-home packages of their teas. We purchased ornaments and some Paris tea to take home. We definitely recommend Aubrey Rose and look forward to returning ourselves.

Yelp
Overpriced $140 for 2 adults and 1 child $18 corking fee for the bottle of sparkling wine I brought. The service was fine the food was fine too. Service seemed a little slow when bringing out the tea and single tower of finger food. I absolutely will not go again. The ambiance was ehhh I would rather spend my money of something else.

Yelp
I definitely want to be genuine and authentic for this review as I myself love to leave reviews to give people a heads up! It all started really well, we had a surprise baby shower for our coworker. They even made cute signs on the the table for her.... And then, kept getting hushed down from management. I was told multiple tables are complaining of our volume...We were playing baby shower games (party of 10) and we made reservations with them knowing it would be a party of 10.... It wasn't like we were roaring and yelling... it was more laughter from the enjoyment of our event, not to mention, the other guests that were not part of our table were laughing along with us while doing the baby shower games???? Maybe thats why it was loud because others were also having a good time watching our games! I was just caught off guard because we booked this place before for a bridal shower event (about the same amount of people) and we were just as "loud" but we were not being hushed down or warned by management (this was last year).... One of the ladies saw I was upset because she WAS NOSEY and looked at my phone while I was on Yelp, then asks about it. I explained as well as my boss what we were upset about. She then admitted "house rules" show limited games are allowed and the volume had to be at a certain level BUT...... she said she forgot and did not send us a waiver that shows game restrictions or that we need to be quiet PRIOR to the reservations. Nor was there a VERBAL warning????? It just sucks because we don't normally get to have team bonding moments due to always working, and it came down to this... us being uncomfortable because we were told that multiple tables are complaining about a 10 persons table having fun (but again, surrounding tables around us were laughing with us while playing the games?). Please make it make sense. Out of good gesture, our boss still paid a 20% gratuity + full price for each person ($65) and just a "Sorry" was given in return... This will be the last for us. Also... food is literally just finger food and not entrees, not a bad thing but in case you guys are hungry this is not the place. Also, good for like a party of MAX 4, unless it's a serious meeting then this is the place for you!

Yelp
Just the best time. Wonderful service - so sweet and attentive. Tea was to die for. Tables were spaced out well, so it felt intimate.

Yelp
I was impressed with this place. I honestly took forever to try it because from the outside and pictures I thought it didn't look as nice as other places and therefore wasn't worth trying. By other places I mean The Grand Del Mar or Westgate. I have also been the Shakespeare. But for Mother's Day I wanted to take our 2 year old along and this was, I felt appropriate. I then had anxiety after talking to other moms thinking it was too fancy even for a 2 year old, maybe she'd break things, etc. The inside of this place is huge and it is very nice, yet still caters towards kids as well. It's casual enough that you don't need to dress up, but you still feel fancy being there. The service was slow but friendly and gracious. The place smells delicious like the different savories they serve. Those are my favorite part and I was in love with the little cheddar bacon biscuits, cheese toasts, sandwiches, and palmiers. The scones were good and the sweets were ok, though not as fancy and well done as more expensive places. Most of the food though was better than Shakespeare and I was very happy. They even had a icy cantaloupe soup that I thought I wouldn't like as I hate canteloupe, but it was delicious! My kid ate a lot of it. She also ate most of my chicken sandwich. Overall she ate a ton for her. It was a hit. The tea was good but I did not sample too many kinds. Some of them are definitely more for kids, and my daughter seemed to enjoy it. The hats to dress up helped entertain her, and the things to buy. We got her her first tea set and my dad got her a teapot nightlight to remember the trip. It was definitely a special experience that I will treasure. Thank you for taking such good care of us, especially my baby!

Yelp
The staff made us feel uncomfortable! Rude to our huge party. Prefer to accommodate small groups! Bad service m.

Yelp
This place was such a great experience! I've been to 1-2 other afternoon teas and I can say that this one is genuinely worth checking out. Atmosphere: The decor is very cute! Tons of tea pots everywhere, any little girl would feel like a princess here. Theres tons of seating and you're spaced far apart enough from other tables to feel some privacy. Tea: WOW, the tea here is very good. The menu is pretty big and theres a tea for everyone! The afternoon tea is unlimited, but you're limited to 2 at a time. I love that the pots are decent sized, not too big, so you can try a ton of teas easily! Personally, I thought the Paris tea was the best of the bunch. My part of 2 got 4 teas total and finished it all! The sugar cubes are so cute and are the perfect portion for your cup of tea. If you really like tea, I would suggest coming here Food: Im not the biggest fan of pastries and afternoon tea snacks, so they didn't impress me too much. BUT thats just me, even though I wasnt crazy about the food, I still had such a great experience! Service: Everyone there was SO SWEET! The ladies were so polite, helpful, and friendly. Overall: Everything together makes this place a 5/5! The best part: price is pretty good!! This cute shop in La Mesa is def worth visiting

Yelp
Only book here if you want to get harassed by the staff and the manager. I love to support small businesses as I have to myself. But this place was horrible. They were constantly harassing my table and another parties table for " being too loud." Please do yourself a favor book at other tea places. Save yourself the bad experience of dealing with ignorant racist people. The food tasted old and stale. The tea was weak at the very least. I thought we were still gonna have a good time but to my disappointment, the manager and the staff made sure we didn't.
