"A true locals spot, this Ocean Avenue mainstay is open every night of the week with local breweries including Standard Deviant, East Brothers, and Dokkaebier all on tap. Pull through for NBA and NFL games to watch on the bar’s six TVs." - Dianne de Guzman, Paolo Bicchieri

Google
The Ave is an excellent bar. I love the vibe. Eight of us came here after our CCSF night class semester ended. One of the pupils paid for my first round of drinks. When I heard the bartender talk about Native American tacos $5 each, I knew I had to try it. They were delicious. It was a fried bread type of taco. They came in two versions, a vegetarian version and a beef version. The chef also let me take photos. It was cool to be able to talk to the chef.

The comedy show was incredible tonight. Great comedians, great crowd and bartender was amazing too. Hours right now are less than pre Covid but with the live performance I’m going to be there for as much as I can on those days. See sign I uploaded on hours and check website and social media on performance and events.

Cool bartenders and folks. BUT... It's not a place for super socializing. You're not going to meet your future anything here. Lol!!! Serve alcoholic free beverages, too... that's a plus! No food, either. BUT PLENTY OF EATERY JOINTS AROUND ALL WALKING DISTANCE! The pop-up BBQ guy food was horrible 😫.

Please bring back the ave not sure if it's gonna open back up

Great place to drink. Feels like a family environment. Nadia and Ben are incredibly attentive bartenders. Live music is played. Also P-Town Birrias, an Afro-Mexican fusion company, brings serves birria tacos and burritos.

Google
I liked this place because it was a very chill and welcoming atmosphere. The bartender was a nice guy. They dont offer food and have a surprising whiskey selection, which is a plus. I did not go when the warriors were playing so it was not packed at all. On game night this place gets packed like every other place.

Google
Ocean Aves staple, the Ave bar is a great spot for locals. Always a new beer on draft, rotating local breweries and the owner really knows his beers. Lots of whiskies to choose from. Friendly bartenders, with a very local crowd, so act like a guest until you’re treated like family.

Google
Gabi is a great bartender and host. She recommended a pilsner by a local brewery. It's the best Pils I've ever had. Thanks Gabi!

Liliana C.

Yelp
Great local bar. Bartender is friendly and knows everyone. It's noisy but not an extremely loud. Parking might be hard to find but accesible through public transportation.

Yelp
This bar has changed a lot since the first I went. The noise is too loud and the atmosphere I got by walking in was very unwelcoming. The music that was playing I didn't even want to hear at a bar. I didn't see if they had food to sell. The bartender only was just focusing on her friends. I have been to better places than this. I will not come back to this bar.

Jesus A.

Yelp
Great vibes and great cocktails and cider. Friendly and easy parking! Service was phenomenally again!

Angela T.

Yelp
Today is my first visit here. It's on Ocean Ave but we found parking right away. First impression is that this is an A+ little dive. Loving the nostalgic vibe. They've got a great celestino of beer, including a cider on draft today. The bartender is super friendly. And the crowd here today is friendly. Vibe is a friendly neighborhood bar.

Yelp
My favorite bar from comedy night , dj's , to hanging out with my neighbors this dive bar exceeds expectations . The staff always remembers my name and is welcoming / engaging in conversation .... a true gem in regards to service. The Ave is and will always be the best bar around and a place that I call home.

Jesse C.

Yelp

Brenda M.

Yelp
Tooo small no ventilation. Service is slow and did not feel welcomed our first visit, it's a neighborhood bar I get it! But businesses should be welcoming to outsiders. woman's restroom has no door knob etc etc

Yuri C.

Yelp
What can I say, this is one of my favorite spot in SF, it never disappoint, nice local bar with a amazing vibe. Strongly recommended...

Yelp
After having a booze free dinner at Champa Garden across the street, my girlfriend suggested we go to The Ave. I'm always down for a drink, so we stopped by. This was back in September 2013. Our group of 6-8 found a table in the back and started with some hennessey: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-ave-san-francisco#PVa4kbLGxmnEKPY9_cHczg Looks delicious huh? I'm sure you're getting thirsty too! All kidding aside, we were that Asian group in the back of the bar playing deuces for shots of hennessey. No one bothered us or told us we were being too loud. It was nice being in a bar where everyone just kind of did their own thing. Everyone was there to drink and have fun. A fun place with great people and a nice vibe.

Justin A.

Yelp
Chill bar, good music, and a great bartender. Summer makes a killer drink and the vibe was great for friends. The drinks we got were a peach Margarita. Really delicious. Will come back soon. Thanks for the fun time.

Thomas P.

Yelp
Hours not accurate - tried to come, paid for parking, and they closed. Only open th/Friday/Saturday now

William S.

Yelp
The Ave is everything you look for in your local SF neighborhood bar. Great staff, friendly folks from the neighborhoods, and great selection of drinks. They have TV's set up for local sports (Warriors, Giants, Raiders, 49ers). Atmosphere is great, it's lit but not too crowded or loud. Very chill spot and can be intimate - lighting, volume, vibe is super cool. Jukebox have great selection of oldies and is frequently updates with new music. They have the best and most knowledgeable staff. Gabby is awesome and funny, Ruby is the sweetest and such a warm soul, Amaker is hilarious and have incredible stories. They have events regularly. You can also check out their Instagram page @theavebar for the events. They're my go to bar.

Lily W.

Yelp
Came here the other night with a friend, and I frigging love this place. It's hella old school SF feeling. Folks were friendly, without being creepy. And they happened to have a beer company doing a promo that night so I also got swag. SWAG!! Also, if you check in on yelp, you can get a free shot. I tipped big anyway, since it's rude to just check in and bounce. They also had a taco bar on the side, serving food until around 10 p.m. I kinda wish I knew, cause I'd have eaten there instead of elsewhere. But I was also with a vegetarian, and I didn't see veg options on the tacos. They smelled hella good though. I generally don't promote a chill native SF spot unless it's already been discovered...but I also have a feeling it would be extremely hard to gentrify this particular bar. If you happen to look/walk/talk/act like a gentrifier though, feel free to go to the bar - and tip big.

Jennifer P.

Yelp
I have been wanting this drink for awhile and Gabby and Ben like to try new things and I'm so excited they made me this. You guys are awesome!

Lupe R.

Yelp
I usually dont go to bars but after going here once I'm hooked, Gaby gives the best service and the drinks are fire. You have to come and see for your self.

Angel A.

Yelp
The ave has quality drinks and service! The staff are friendly and inviting and will always make you feel at home.

Earl G.

Yelp
Hanging out and watching a Giants game at the Ave is like chillin' at a barbershop. Bunch of guys talking, sports, smack, ish', and what not. There isn't a pool table or anything else to keep you occupied but the friendly regulars are lively and will keep you entertained. They do have some old school pictures on the walls for decoration. As well as some old school class and football/basketball team pics from the local all boys HS that's right around the corner. Riordan is the barkeep's alma mater as well as mine. There's some serious male bonding to be had here.

Sean C.

Yelp
The Ave the perfect Ingleside dive bar! A decent selection of micro-brews on tap, Giants game on the TV, friendly people, and and not a 'hipster' in sight!

Fiona M.

Yelp
This is a local bar in the best way. I hope it will make it through the pandemic. San Francisco should protect places like this. Best of luck and we'll see you again when we can!

Simi J.

Yelp
This was the first bar I ever entered 5 years ago. It holds a special place in my heart. That is the kind of energy you will feel at this bar. It's very welcoming and neighborly. Bay Area game days are on point, and you never know who you are going to run into or how many funny conversations you're gona have. The jukebox is on point and the 90s hiphop will make you happy! I love them especially because they carry ginger beer! That is usually the missing ingredient in most mixed drinks! If you're looking for a nice lowkey place to hang out and drink, come here! You won't be disappointed. P.S. Be ready to get hit on you beautiful ladies! Hahaa

Adrian C.

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood bar! Always have a good time when stopping by after work. Gabby is a great bartender and happy to help you ease out of a stressful day.

Adrina C.

Yelp
I found this hole in the wall bar by chance and this bartender Summer is so nice. She's got a great smile too!! Made the best apple martini I've ever had ! Will come again on a Saturday and hope she works

Brody R.

Yelp
Damn... Gabby can make an impressive Old Fashioned, chill vibes and great service. Definitely will be coming back to the bar that is close to the neighborhood

Sean C.

Yelp
Great neighbourhood bar with fantastic staff. Summer really made us feel welcome, taking time to give us top tips of things to see whist we are in San Fran and made the best drinks.

Remy M.

Yelp
Ruby the bartender is very kind. Made me feel like it was "The neighborhood spot." Super down to earth vibes.

Joe S.

Yelp
I love dive bars through and through, but this place is the worst. Been into this bar a few times and not once has it been a comfortable setting or experience. The music is blasting at an 11/10 for such a tiny place and you can hardly hear yourself talk. That, combined with the horrible nature of the regulars that the bar attracts makes for a terrible time. On several occasions I've been harassed by drunken "ghetto" dudes, clearly looking to start a fight, while the bartender kept pouring them drinks and half ass paid attention to the uncomfortable atmosphere these guys create. Train your staff to not only pour drinks, but to make everyone feel welcome and not just their pals. If someone is being rude and aggressive toward other patrons, don't ignore it.

Anastasia Z.

Yelp
Super. Mixed. Feelings. Great beer selection rotating on tap and nice bartenders any time I've gone... But I've also been harassed by clientele on a few occasions. If you are a male bodied person or if you're going with male bodied company or at an off time: enjoy a cheap and quality beer! If not... You might end up with an aftertaste of misogyny.

Gabe S.

Yelp
They will rip you off if you don't pay attention. We went there tonight and the first bartender charged us and extra 5 dollars for the first 2 beers. We weren't paying attention so we paid and tipped. She left and must have told the other bartender that took over, " these guys are suckers upcharge them" and sure enough she tried to charge us an extra 4 dollars for the next round. This time I questioned the charge and she was like oh I accidentally charged you for something or other. Yeah right. Avoid this dump! Ruined our time out.

Ariella P.

Yelp
Ruby is the best. Be nice to her and she takes care of you. Come Sunday's to meet the fabulous Ruby

Elizabeth K.

Yelp
The bartender was so drunk, she had the black out wobbles, bad ones. Couldn't stand up. Is this really how you man your bar?!?! I've been here quite a few times and while it's usually got the shit show feel, tonight was bad.Check out Ocean Ale House instead!

Michelle M.

Yelp
Tried this bar out on a Sunday night. I was visiting from outta town. I am use to dive bars, but this by far is ghetto. Bartender took forever to serve us. You can tell this is a locals only bar and they don't take well to locals..

Colby G.

Yelp
We need more places like you in Ingleside! Thank you! You guys have the best beer selection in the area.

Kevin W.

Yelp
A dive bar. Mind you, not one of those charming, quirky, hip dive bars. Plywood walls. Unwelcoming brick front fascia. Mostly barstools. Jukebox and big flat screens. And the best kind of friendly, young owner/bartender. "Sorry, my handwriting on the beer specials is bad. Let me tell you about our local beers. ::lists beers:: Want to try the 10% beer? It has a bitter aftertaste, but it's 10%." How could I say no to 10%? Or to three rounds of $6 Jameson on the rocks?

Manny F.

Yelp
This is a great neighborhood bar! it's unpretentious and the prices are great but too friendly and well stocked to be considered a dive bar. They have a full bar and feature northern California craft beer on their seven taps

Jeff L.

Yelp
I used to go here when it was owned by a guy named Bernard and it was called "The Avenue Club". The Ave is to the Avenue Club as John Legend is to Marvin Gaye. The Ave is a newer, younger version of the Avenue Club. Cheap drinks, lots of football, and nice, friendly regulars. The lineup in the jukebox still consists of Soul classics like the Temptations and The Delphonics, but Sam Cooke and Donnie Hathaway have been replaced by Boyz II Men and Outkast. I've been there on a few Sunday afternoons when Rodney, the owner, will buy pizza for the bar or a regular will bring in homemade ribs and meatball sandwiches. As I said earlier, everyone here is very friendly. It's a great place if you live in the area, or know someone that does.

melissa g.

Yelp
This place is definitely a low key locals bar (relative to its location). I'm a bit biased bc I know one of the guys running the place. Both guys are SFFD, need I say more ladies? That said, I went here last minute with a couple of folks late night. I had such a great time although my head wouldn't agree with me the next day. There are some characters in this place. A couple of the local old guys (60+) would get up and dance, sing and bob their heads to music playing from the juke box and make comments that literally could have gotten them roles in the movie Friday. One old guy started to dance and called out another old guy, at the end of the "battle" one says to the other... "man, you a foolio!" I wasn't anticipating a night like this, but seriously, it could have BEEN in the movie Friday. I loved it.

Matt B.

Yelp
Bartender was very rude to my girlfriend, giving her a 5 minute lecture and telling her she was living her life wrong based on an off hand joking comment. Service was fine up until then, but I do not appreciate getting the "holier than thou" treatment, and I very much do not appreciate bartenders that make my girlfriend cry. Get off your high horse, we're all in a bar for a reason. Our first and last time visiting here.

Lucy T.

Yelp
Dude, this place closes at midnight. I came at 11:50pm and they said they could serve me a shot then I'd have to bounce. Lame. Shouldn't bars be open till at least 2am?

Anthony F.

Yelp
If you know what your getting into, there is not a better bar to go to even more so if you live in ingleside/lakeview/daly city, a real local bar thats slowly turning into more of a college scene, but the people in there are always extremely nice and welcoming, and the bartenders are awesome, i could not be happier with my local bar, plus the beer on tap is unbelievable, usually all local brews, switching weekly, i love it. Oh, each drink always at least $1-2 cheaper than every other bar in SF, $4 pints?? cant beat that!

Gerard Y.

Yelp
I went here to watch a Giants World Series game. No stouts on tap :( but the bartender had some alternative suggestions and even allowed me to sample some of those beers. Staff here are friendly. Excellent atmosphere as we were cheering as loud as we could whenever the Giants made a play. It's an unassuming, neighborhood divey bar that I wouldn't mind watching another sports game again over here.

Brad R.

Yelp
I have to roll this bar back a star. I've been back here a couple times and the taps of beer were a little more expensive. Maybe the girl bartending when I was here the first time was just really cool. Also, they don't serve pitchers of beer. C'mon now how can you not have pitchers if you're a bar with beer on tap. One more thing, nobody poured me up any free Jameson, I had to pay for my jamo. So yeah, I guess the girl bartending the first time I came through was just really cool.

Vicky C.

Yelp
Great place to just sit and talk over a few drinks. The atmosphere is cozy but not dank which is always a plus. Minus one star for not having my go to alcohol but for what it is, it's a great place to chill and is definitely on my radar.

Brian A.

Yelp
The DJ on Thursdays is the best! He plays old school hip hop, funk RnB, and even mixes in some old school Bay Area rap which makes the crowd go crazy! The crowd here is cool. Local SF cats from the neighborhood, no transplants here! I should add a disclaimer... the DJ on thursday is my younger brother =).

Sheila G.

Yelp
Owned and run by some friends of mine, I love this place. I can drink, watch a game, listen to music I LIKE (not like everywhere else in this nutty town), play Wii, eat my own food, and catch up on gossip, all in one spot. I've been trying to get them to name a drink after me, but they say nobody wants to drink something called the "Angry Asian", or the "High Killer". I say, them folks don't know what they're missin'! Anyway, The Ave is a good, friendly place to be yourself. Just don't be no fool.

Darrin C.

Yelp
Great place, nice people! Owners and staff are very friendly. Great neighborhood bar. Beau and Lucia work hard to keep people happy.

Aili P.

Yelp
I have recently turned this into my Monday afternoon bar and go whenever possible before my Monday night class. They have a great beer selection and it is always full of regulars which I find a great sign. Gabi behind the bar is super sweet and fun to chat with for a minute and she is always cool if I stay and do homework for an hour or so. Good prices for good local beers and it is only a ten minute walk away from the CCSF campus.

Diana J.

Yelp
Got lost and sidetracked in traffic so my friend exited the freeway and decided to find a random place to grab food. But we found our way into this random dive bar first! We entered the bar and was like uhh... should we just go back out. We kind of looked out-of-place based on how the other clienteles looked like, but hey, no discriminating and no prejudicing, alcohol is alcohol. And we've both had a long day being stuck in traffic and being stuck in the airport, so a drink was very much appreciated! There was a good selection of tap beer and we quickly order double ipas. Gotta get that buzz on before dinner of course.. While we were finishing up our drinks, the nice owner lady has a conversation with us. It's funny that she asked us how we wandered into her bar. Then friend and her had a conversation about the tap beers, and although I enjoy beers, I am by far not a connoisseur, just an avid admirer :) So we were only there for 30 minutes at most. But had 3 beers and a free shot of tuaca (first time trying tuaca but did not know it was vanilla-dominant) Pros +very personable, friendly owner. She is also attractive. Knows her beers +juke box Cons -kind of reeked of stale/dried alcohol which is reminiscent of pee smell

Ming L.

Yelp
This bar is a hidden gem in the Ingleside district. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it's a cool and hip place to hang out with a small group of friends. It brings in a very diverse crowd. The vibe is super chill and friendly - no judgement or pretentiousness from the bartenders or the other patrons. They offer a wide selection of whiskey. Their beer selection is stellar! They rotate and change out their beers so often that every time I visit, there are 10 new local bay area beers to try. The workers here are always friendly and down to earth. I highly recommend checking this place out.
