The Baker Next Door - Review - Redwood City - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The long, white-and-green-checkered counter at this popular bakery gives the airy, sunlit space a subtle but welcome old-school diner vibe. This spot is known for its bread and pastries, and for good reason—do not miss the pain au chocolat, with its buttery layers and generously filled chocolate center, or the flaky kouign amann, topped with oven-caramelized sugar. But the breakfast and lunch offerings shouldn’t be ignored. Go for the decadent mortadella sandwich with stracciatella on focaccia or the breakfast sandwich with a runny egg and bacon on crusty ciabatta. There’s no wifi, so it may not be the best spot for getting work done, but it’s perfect for settling in with a friend or a good book." - Gabi Moskowitz

What a delightful discovery in Redwood City! Stepping into Baker Next Door feels like entering a haven for all things sweet and delicious. The sweet morning bun and kouign amann are absolute works of art—buttery, flaky, and caramelized to perfection. And their coffee is equally amazing, a perfect partner to the pastries. While the pudding was a bit average for my taste, the rest of the visit was a true joy. This little bakery is a pure gem

I am really pleased that I stopped at The Baker Next Door. They offer a nice variety - from pastries, to bread, coffee and other beverages, to sandwiches and toasts. I had the avocado toast, along with matcha tea. The toast was delicious, generous in size, and accompanied by a very fresh looking and tasting salad. The matcha tea was very good. I got some bread and look forward to returning for pastries in the future. Nice amount of tables inside. Additional seating on the sidewalk. The only thing I wish they would add is internet access, since it is a good place to sit down with a computer!

Google
Excited to have a neighborhood bakery we could easily walk to. There are various bread options throughout the day, both the baguette and seeded country loaf made excellent sandwiches. The loaf is so heavy, great texture! Also decent flat whites.

Google
Pretty new coffee shop at Redwood City Downtown. It has various of pastries made at the shop fresh. It also has various of coffee menu and some breakfast item like avocado toast and also sandwich. The latte is good. I like the Kougin Amann. The worker is very nice. I like coffee house and bakery at same place.

Google
A must-try in downtown Redwood City! The avocado toast was amazing! The pastries are incredible, especially the kouign amann, they really nailed that one. My Americano was equally delicious. I will be back to try more from their extensive and unique menu. Highly recommend!

Google
The food is great overall, but the avocado and pesto could use a bit more seasoning to enhance the flavor. The environment is clean and welcoming, making it a pleasant place to dine. The bread on the mozzarella cheese sandwich was especially delicious—definitely a standout!

Lev S

Google
Rosemary focaccia was incredible. It worked so well with balsamic vinegar. Strawberry chausson was great too, sweet and flavorful with great contrast to acidic filling. Kouign amann was great, flaky and delicious.

Google
I love everything about this place! Breads and pastries are all delicious...you can tell they are made with quality ingredients. Breakfast or lunch, you can't go wrong...recently had their BLT on a beautiful croissant...it was the best I've ever had. Staff is super nice

Lindsay F.

Yelp
The staff is outstanding--friendly, professional, and full of great recommendations! We have been many times since, but our first time going, my daughter had the avocado toast and described it as "THE BEST," along with their iced cold berry drink, which she loved. I had the turkey club and the "Under the Pink Sky" drink, both of which were amazing. We also love the whole feel of the café--the ambience is so inviting, and the open kitchen lets you watch everything being made! I mean, how can you not love getting to watch them make what you're about to eat? I highly recommend visiting, whether you're just driving through town or live in the area. We're counting down the days until we can go back to our go-to spot in town!

Yelp
After hearing about this place at a Yelp Elite event at @Cardomomo--where they literally call them "our baker next door"--I had to check out the source. Turns out the pun is well-earned and the bread is even better. The lineup here is solid: flaky croissants that shatter just right, a baguette with that perfect crispy-chewy thing going on (made excellent next-morning toast), and a peanut butter sandwich cookie that I'm still thinking about. The coffee holds its own too, which is saying something when you're literally in the middle of what looks like a functioning baking factory. Everything tastes like someone actually cares about what they're making. The baguette alone justified the trip--crackling crust, airy interior, gone by noon the next day. I grabbed it to go but ended up eyeing their sandwich menu pretty hard on the way out. Next time. If you're nearby or visiting RWC, swing by. Your breakfast table will thank you.

Yelp
Came here after a workout to get some carbs in since it was nearby (I went to Powerhouse Gym Elite). I ordered a morning bun as well as a kouign amann, and initially intended to bring them home to split with my husband. Unfortunately that did not happen because I took one bite out of each one because I told myself just one bite and then I ended up eating both in their entirety in about 5 minutes in the car. I tried, but if you read my other pastry reviews you know I am a complete sucker for the crisp-to-fluff bite experience and this definitely had that. If I had any complaints it would mostly be that the morning bun had all the carmelized sugar collected at the bottom, so that part of the morning bun was a bit more sticky and chewy than I'd normally prefer and ended up being too sweet. Anyway, solid pastries! I probably wouldn't go out of my way to eat here but will probably stop by next time I'm working out in the area!

Yelp
Definitely my go-to bakery! It is located in downtown Redwood City and is such a nice, casual spot to grab a pastry and drink. There is seating inside and outside. Also plenty of parking around the streets. I probably frequent this shop weekly. I love getting the ham and cheese morning bun. I've had the regular croissant and pain au chocolat as well. Everything is so buttery and flaky. Sometimes they'll offer to heat the pastries up for you. Everyone is friendly. Highly recommend you stop by!

Yelp
I visited The Baker Next Door early in the morning, before it got too busy. The interior was bright, with a green checkered counter and a handful of tables. I didn't notice the specialty coffee drink in time (Limon-nana, looked fantastic) so I got a Cappuccino. I also ordered a Chocolate Croissant and Feta-Tomato Bateau to-go. Service was quick but a bit lukewarm. The Cappuccino was well-made and got the job done. Both pastries tasted fresh, with nice flaky dough. However, neither one was life-changing. The Chocolate Croissant was pretty standard and the Feta-Tomato Bateau was a little too salty. Would return to try more items in the future!

Yelp
a very cute cafe. I love their vanilla latte and all of their pastries are to die for! My favorite is the morning sweet bun. The staff was pleasant but could be a little friendlier though.

Yelp
Pastries are good. The staff is not friendly with an attitude. A good bakery that could be great with care. Great location and lovely decor.

Yelp
Honest take out review: One of the most interesting combos and it works!!! 5/5 Awwww, the smell of fresh bread in the morning... you can't beat it! The aroma of just craft taking place like this makes for a delicious morning and wonderful stroll if you're walking by the area, let's get to the food! Walking in we were delighted to see the food being offered in display for you to see what you like, the menus easy to decipher, and the clientele gives you their opinions on what's delicious! Always good when your clientele knows your menu! We just walked in for a snack for on the road and I was recommended the lavender latte and the broccoli rab on a baguettes. -Lavender latte: 4/5 If you like lavender lattes, this is for you. Floral in essence and taste, you will get everything you're looking for! It's definitely one that if you're looking for a drink with sweetness, it's there! However it's not what you'd expect. It's delicious in nature and paired will with the sandwich I ordered. This is a drink that I would say it's for most, but not all.... -Broccoli rab: 5/5 I normally don't go for a vegetarian sandwich, it's not my style. However... this sandwich changed my mind. It was one of the best things I've eaten in a long time. The flavor profile made this feel like you weren't missing anything! It was savory, salty, and the bread was perfect. This was one of those bites that you salivate just thinking back to. The broccolini was Smokey, met with a goat cheese that gave you a punch, and met with a pepper relish that was just.... The perfect combination. It was garlicky, it was the perfect bite. There is no other way to describe this. This walk in hole in the wall experience for us. May just win best bite of 2025. It was that good! The service, the food, the only thing id say is parking can be a little rough, but.... It's worth the walk for great food!

Yelp
Yet another lovely upscale cafe in downtown. I came here recently with my daughter for our Saturday coffee date and had a steamer and chocolate croissant. Pros: Pastries were hands down top notch. The croissant was fresh and excellent compared to other cafes nearby. Service was friendly. Cons: Parking is tough downtown but that goes for any business here. Only whole milk, almond and oat milk - no lowfat milk options. While that might make drinks tastier I would have gotten a drink if they had lowfat options. Drinks aren't as wide in variety as other places (coffeebar, coupa).

Yelp
Have been here few times now at different times. First time I tried their avocado toast..felt little too crunchy toast with generous avacado..comes with fresh salad. Loved the cappuccino- reminded me of my Italy trip. Great open kitchen to watch the bakers in action. I have also tried their chocolate au pain croissants , and I noticed they warm up few other bakery items. I just hope they serve cappuccino in glassware if one is dining there which look's inconsistent ...‍ Parking is street or public parking lot across the street (metered).

Charlene C.

Yelp
Spontaneously happened upon this amazing place, walked in and thought "this is as close to a european bakery" as one can experience. The leek goat cheese bateau is lamination to perfection! Watching the bakers roll and care for the dough/pastry shows artisan and craftsmanship in a very clean, brightly lit and spacious environment. Hands down, one of the best pastries I've had in the Bay Area. Next time, will try the breads....!

Yelp
As you enter The Baker Next Door, you are greeted with an intoxicating aroma of buttery goodness. It's difficult to resist buying everything on the menu. But I had some self-restraint and settled with five items: croissant, pain au chocolat, kouign amman, pain suisse, and ham & cheese morning bun. I'm a savory person, so I really enjoyed the ham & cheese morning bun, which had a good ratio of flaky pastry to savory fillings. The pain suisse was another personal favorite, which had a beautiful chocolatey filling. And of course, you cannot go wrong with the classic croissant. The cafe is moderately sized but has scarce table seating along the wall and some bar stool seating in front of the kitchen.

Yelp
A new regular spot for me! Super cute cafe; love that you can sit at the counter and watch staff prep baked goods - very fun. This would be a 5 star review but they DESPERATELY need more seating. We (and others) had to wait around a little after ordering to get a table. I had a ham & cheese morning bun. My boyfriend had a savory scone. Their pastry was very good. Would try different things next time. Also got a bread to take home. $12 for a huge loaf - good flavor. The pastries were around $5-$6 each I'm not a coffee drinker so I was very happy they had so many tea and non-coffee options! It's nice to be able to get something more fun than just plain tea at a cute place. The best thing this place does is take care of their staff. They have sign near the register that explains they don't ask for tips because their prices reflect paying their staff a fair wage and providing benefits. Even with this, their prices are the same as any other similar place around. They still have a tip jar if you want to leave something. Every restaurant should value their staff this way.

Yelp
I'm glad I finally stopped in after seeing this pop up on Yelp a while back! Three friends and I stopped by here after brunch yesterday and we each got a drink and split one of the peanut butter sandwich cookies. The space is cute and clean inside, and all of the staff members were great! I had an iced matcha latte. It was fine but I was a little disappointed that they didn't have honey, only simple syrup and vanilla syrup. Because of that, I probably wouldn't get this drink again, and I'd opt for something I usually would get unsweetened. Some of my friends were a little disappointed by their tea drinks, as they tasted a little artificial (maybe made with syrups? Not sure). However, we all thought the peanut butter sandwich cookie was great, especially the filling! Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to come here, but it's nice to have a coffee place on Main Street if you happen to be in that area!

Yelp
Tried some of the cafe items this time. We got the grain salad and the croque monsieur. The salad was excellent. Ton of flavor and also nice portion size. The two pieces of bread that came with it were also great. The croque monsieur was very crunchy and had got amount of cheese and the bread was nice and buttery. Bread maybe overpowered the filling a little bit, but still great. Before we left we took one of the seeded country loafs home. The bread is definitely what keeps me coming back. Best bread in RWC by far.

Yelp
PHENOMENAL!! This is hands down our favorite bakery in the bay area. The pastries are so fresh and delicious. Some of our favorites are the monkey bread, pain suisse, croissant, sour dough loaf, apple chausson, pain au chocolaté...basically everything. They also make the best BLT sandwiches on fresh croissants with heirloom tomatoes...it's to die for and sometimes gets sold out. The atmosphere is so beautiful and spacious and the workers are so friendly. We come here every weekend with our toddler (who is crazy about their monkey bread) and then hit up the public library across the street. It's our favorite weekend activity!

Yelp
I was excited to try this new bakery, but unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. The pastries were okay...nothing special. Having worked in a bakery before, I might be a bit picky, but my $6 morning bun was uncurled and lacked the neat presentation I was expecting. I also didn't taste any orange zest in the bun. The biggest disappointment was our drinks. My matcha latte was the worst I've ever had. Rather than being properly whisked, it seemed like steamed milk was just poured over dry matcha powder, leaving clumps of powder in every sip. It seems this bakery has a strong focus on coffee but others in my group had complaints about their cappuccinos - specifically that the milk was not steamed properly, had large bubbles instead of latte art...more so just milk dumped on top of the espresso. Another issue was cleanliness. A friend ordered a pastry, and I watched the cashier wipe the serving plate with the same towel they had just used to clean the counter which is not a great look for food safety. Tongs to grab the pastries were put down in the register area where our cashier was taking payments, just directly on the counter rather than on a plate or board where the pastries were. We felt like we were being rushed when ordering and just didn't really feel like we were being welcomed, even when there was nobody behind us in line. On the positive side, the space itself is cute, and the bakery's story on their website is lovely. Their menu looked extensive but we didn't order any of their food. I hope they work out these service kinks, but based on my experience, I wouldn't return.

Yelp
The Baker Next Door continues to wow! I brought a box of pastries into work and everything was a hit. The pain au chocolat and morning buns were beautifully laminated. The monkey bread had an amazing sugar crust. The serrano cheddar scone was a wonderful balance of spicy, salty, and sweet. I have yet to find something here that I didn't thoroughly enjoy!

Danielle L.

Yelp
I've been here twice and both times the employees were unkind with an attitude. The pastries are just okay and definitely don't justify the poor service. Not worth it.
google avatar

Yelp
The most scrumptious avocado toast I have ever had!!!! A MUST ORDER !! The seeded levain (sourdough) toast is so soft and pillowy with a great chew. While the outer layer is encrusted with a variety of seeds adding roasted nuttiness, crunch, and more texture. The bread was truly the best foundation to uphold this beauty. Perched on top, were generous slices of ripe, creamy avocado garnished with pickled onions, radish, and micro greens. The grain salad was more than your average lettuce and dressing. It was hearty, well-dressed, and tender. The farro had a gummy chew complimenting the softened kale, crunchy cucumbers, fennel, almonds & savory crumbles of feta. The sherry vinaigrette was drizzled with a light hand just enough gently coat the ingredients without making it soggy. The menu mentions strawberries, but I can't remember if it had it/see it in the photos. Inside the cafe is bright and welcoming. Small tables line the walls, and additional seating at the bar. The bar offers a front row seat to bakers preparing loafs of dough. It was so satisfying watching their effortless expertise, had me mesmerized! Can't wait to come back and try other times on their menu.

Yelp
This is a beautiful new-ish bakery and coffee shop located in RWC! They serve delicious fresh pastries, breakfast sandwiches, salads and Proyecto Diaz Bay Area coffee. I personally love getting the plain croissant, it's simple and you can definitely taste the difference in the quality of the ingredients. The staff is always really warm and welcoming. The space is large with plenty of seating, even at the counter watching the bakers in action! They're open pretty early, as most bakeries are and close early also, at 3 pm, as a heads up. I've definitely tried to go there after work then realized it was closed so just something to be on the lookout for :)

Yelp
My friends and I decided to dine here for lunch since we work within walking distance. As soon as you walk in, it smells amazing! All the freshly baked bread and pastries look so appetizing! The place is clean, brightly lit from natural sunlight and inviting. You order at the counter and they call out your order when its ready, so not much service is provided. There is limited seating as there are only a few tables and bar seating available. One friend and I decided to share the Croque Monsieur and the Grain Salad. The Croque Monsieur was prepared well on seeded country levain, which provided nice texture. It also came with a side salad that was simple but dressed perfectly. The Grain Salad was a perfect combination of sweetness from the strawberries, bitterness from the fennel, crunchiness from the almonds, creaminess from the feta and acidity from the dressing. My only request would be for more kale in the salad as there was an abundance of farro in my opinion. It was served with a slice of toasted bread, but I didn't even try it since I was stuffed! When finished, you bus your own dishes into the dish pan. Overall, it was a pleasant, healthy meal. Food is enjoyable and high quality!

Yelp
Delicious new bakery in downtown RWC! Starting with ambiance - nice & bright perfect for a meetup with a friend - if only they had more seating! We brought the whole family here for an early morning pastry run - the ham and cheese morning bun and seasonal muffin were a hit with the little one! He's a picky eater so glad to see he enjoyed these items. The smoked salmon plate was more of a smoked salmon toast but it was also delicious - loved the addition of the pickled onions for extra tang. The cream cheese and smoked salmon seemed to be very good quality definitley tastier than your casual bagel shop. The side salad it came with was light and came with a vinagrette type of dressing that paired well with the food. I got a cappucino which was as a good cappucino but if you're looking for flavored drinks or specialty coffee beans this probably isn't as much of a coffee spot as it is a bakery! Overall would come back again for the pastries and food!
google avatar

Yelp
Don't let the name fool you - this is not a spot for common, run of the mill pastries. All the baked goods here are strikingly top notch in terms of technique, on par or exceeding the quality other established expert bakeries in the Bay Area (Tartine, Manresa Bread, etc). What I ordered: Matcha latte - unsweetened pure matcha, quite good Pain Suisse (seasonal item) - shatteringly crisp puff pastry filled with specialty dark chocolate and baked pastry cream - not too sweet, flavorful and balanced, a delight to look at and taste Almond snail - delicious, not cloying like many similarly-styled almond croissants in the area Pain au chocolate - went to my kiddo who inhaled it before I could sample (a resource ding endorsement) Bright, airy, mix of tables and counter seating. Does not appear to have wifi, but I found it a pleasant place to work and watch people baking. Folks here are knowledgeable and creative with their craft. I look forward to trying more of what they have to offer!
google avatar

Jesse Y.

Yelp
We had the pain suisse and a breakfast sandwich. Pain suisse had a very nice thin crispy crust and wasn't too sweet. Breakfast sandwich of bacon, egg on focaccia. Bacon a bit salty but focaccia was well done. Matcha latte was good and latte art was on point.
google avatar

Allison M.

Yelp
The space is so light and inviting, I feel like I can't have a bad experience here. Have come a couple times for lunch now and a few more just to pick up pastries. Service for their food is pretty quick and there is ample seating. The grain salad was extremely filling and lasted me two meals. I appreciate the ability to add on items like avocado or an egg. Of their pastries, my favorite so far has been the morning bun. But I'm very excited to try their croissant pudding some time!

Yelp
I tried Baker Next Door's pastries during their pre-opening Friday pop ups. I'm happy they are finally open! The restaurant is airy, bright, and beautiful. You order at the counter and they call your name when it's ready. Seating is first come first served. FOOD: -- Croque Monsieur: Tasty combination of crunchy bread, ham, melty cheese, and cornichons. The bread is a tad greasy. Comes with small side salad, which helps to cut through the richness of the sandwich. -- House Salad: Bright dressing. Love that it comes with bread. Can add meat (smoked salmon or bacon) if you want protein. -- Focaccia Slab Sandwich: It was filling and came with a small side salad. I added bacon. PASTRIES: I enjoyed their morning bun, Kouign Amann, and cookies.

Yelp
Delicious!! Love the focaccia and croissant were amazing. Service was rude and in a hurry.

Yelp
I manage one of the apartment buildings in the neighborhood and I believe the daughter of this bakery came in to my building and introduced herself to us. I finally made it in to check it out over the weekend! My husband and I ordered some pastries as well as some iced coffees. Everything has been yummy so far! Our order came out pretty quick too. The place itself was very spacious and clean. Rating is 3/5 because the staff was ok, they didn't seem very welcoming :/ the cashier was pretty rude to be a cashier. The young lady bussing tables was the only one who greeted us nicely and smiled.
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
We come here not an infrequent amount. It's a nice cute bakery in Downtown Redwood City. Seating is a little hard to get on weekend mornings, but not impossible. We have tried numerous things on the menu. I really enjoy the pain suis, with a crispy outer layer and inside is a creamy chocolate filling. The sandwiches are tasty as well, though the sour dough is a bit too chewy and hard, and not my preference, but nonetheless, still tasty. Quality of the food is definitely high.
google avatar

Ruchika J.

Yelp
Seating is hard to find in this small shop, especially on weekends because everyone seems to love this place. I enjoyed the indie music playing. The beet sandwich and leek pastry were so yummy and filling. They picked really great flavor combinations. Make sure not to make a mess as the pastries are so flaky. There is a self-serve kiosk for water and napkins. The coffee was okay. There is a nearby lot across the street to pay to park, or metered street parking. The baristas made sure to greet us and use our names despite being so busy.
google avatar

Reanne Z.

Yelp
Came by before noon and it wasn't too busy, they still had all of their pastries on their menu as well. Ordered a focaccia sandwich and a mocha, there isn't a whole lot of seating but you can find a seat if you wait for a bit. The focaccia sandwich was delicious, it was fresh and flavorful with a small salad on the side. The mocha I wasn't a huge fan of, it tasted a bit watered down. I also got a monkey bread to go, it was caramelized and so good! The prices are a bit on the higher side, but they are a no-tip establishment!

Yelp
We had an excellent first experience at this fine bakery just around the corner from the restaurants on Broadway. It's too bad (or maybe a good thing?) that this place is so far from home, because this could now be our preferred bakeshop on the Peninsula. We had just finished a light lunch and were looking for something sweet. Though the ice cream shop was enticing, we wanted something lighter. A quick Yelp search turned up this place. The place was bustling - not a single seat available at a table or at the counter - so we got our order to go. The folks behind the counter were quite friendly and helpful. The selection is not huge but sufficiently varied, and we considered our selections carefully. I was tempted by the morning buns (they have a traditional sweet and a savory version) and of course the kouign amann, but after getting descriptions of the guava and cream cheese and the pain Suisse. Shortly after walking out the door and taking our first bites, we realized that we had made a grave mistake: we should have ordered more. Both pastries were fantastic. The chausson was crisp and perfectly laminated, and the filling was a wonderful balance of the sweet guava (one of my top two favorite fruits) and the cheese. The pain Suisse was similarly excellent, and the chocolate filling had a subtle spiciness that hits shortly after the sweetness. Very, very well done. Yes, this was just a small sampling, but we were rather surprised how good they were. Far better than Maison Alyzee in Burlingame, Alexander's Patisserie in Mountain View, and Adorable French Bakery that sets up shop at the local farmers' markets, and on par with The Midwife and the Baker in Mountain View. Despite the distance, I suspect that we will make our way back here quite regularly.

Exciting that downtown Redwood City has a bakery!!!! I've only been here once so far, I need to go again in order to bump up my star rating. We picked up a loaf of bread it was good, yet pricy. I know that's the way of the world these days. It's a splurge going here. The decor is well done. Modern and simplistic. You'll have to hunt for street parking or find one of the garages. Next time I'll try to pick up one of their pasteries.

Yelp
New spot! Cute. Read the story on their website. I like how they open early. Lots of parking on the street during the morning. Good coffees and pastries! Light and fluffy and was ordered the breakfast sandwich and that was very filling. Option of oat and almond milk for a bit extra. I appreciate how it doesn't cost an arm and leg for it. Prices are great!

Yelp
Found this place by wonderful accident. The baked goods are amazing. Ordered the breakfast sandwich and the avocado toasts. Both were perfectly prepared and delicious. Runny yolk, perfectly crisp bacon, ripe avocado, and lovely vinaigrette on the greens. The bread on both sandwiches was so good be bought a whole loaf. We also tried the liege waffle (delicious) and had lovely espresso drinks. I'm sorry this place is miles from my home because it would be my go-to for breakfast, elevenses and my weekly bread. The shop itself is clean, bright and cozy -- think bakery cafe not restaurant. Service was gracious and they quickly moved the line. Lucky Redwood City locals! Take good care of this treasure.

Yelp
Went last month to celebrate with a snack for a friend's birthday. Had heard that this bakery had finally opened so def wanted to give a new local place a try. My friend and I went to Philz (she'd never been) and then walked over to this place. Appreciate that they tolerated outside beverages. There was a line but it moved along well. Looked at the display case and decided on a ham and cheese bun for both of us. Bun was fairly good. Ham was nice and the cheese good as well. We were lucky enough to score a table so felt lucky. The cashier was nondescript. Didn't do anything special. But. The woman who gave me the rolls made an impression because she thanked me for not taking another of their luxurious napkins (we already had some). Liked the leaning toward conserving resources. I was dismayed at the super slick small plate with the bun. It all slid all over the place and I nearly dropped my expensive snack. The tables weren't kept up with and some folks are just piggy about cleaning up their crumbs. If you ask someone will help wipe down a mess. The place was constantly busy and I'm happy to see that. But. 7 bucks for a roll (and I treated my birthday-friend) is sort of understandable but way too rich for me rn. Will perhaps return when I want to indulge and can deal with a hefty tab for a light meal. (Note: I was a pastry/baker for many years and so greatly appreciate the work)

Yelp
The first time I got there everything was tasting fantastic ( avocado toast and coffee) ; the service was great. The second tim and third time it was ok. It really depends who is cooking and making your drinks and who is at the counter. Some are really great and some just slap things together. My last avocado toast was not good at all, which is disappointing. I feel sad that the quality is inconsistent and goes down. The bread is still really delicious and fresh

Yelp
I love this place and they've got the most amazing kouign aman ive ever had ever!! The coffee is good too but their pastries are out of this world!! If you are planning on sitting inside, good luck though because seating is almost always full. The baristas are also very sweet.

Yelp
I love bakeries and wish we had more of them on the Peninsula! I was very happy when this placed open since it's in downtown Redwood City and pretty convenient to visit with all the parking nearby. I really liked the focaccia slab sandwich I got. The heirloom tomatoes they used were incredibly large, juicy, and sweet. They added a lot of flavor to the sandwich. I love cream cheese and arugula so the sandwich combined a lot of my favorite foods. I ask for cucumbers on the side. The bread pudding here is also pretty tasty. I like the caramel sauce on the side. This bread pudding is best when heated up so if you bring it home cold I recommend microwaving it first. The monkey bread here was also not bad (not my favorite pastry but would eat it again if someone wanted to share). I want to try all the pastries here at some point since they have a very large selection. The interior of the shop is also very sunny and bright so hopefully your mood is brightened up if you eat here!

Yelp
Great vanilla latte and sugar croissant. They need to have the restroom cleaned during closing hours. Three of us waited outside for TEN MINUTES to use their bathroom. I finally gave up and was later told it was because an employee was cleaning it. Would have been nice for the employee cleaning to have seen the three of us outside waiting and then continue to clean after we each used it.

Yelp
I don't think service could be any slower. With 10 people working, the ONE register person was moving in slow motion. . When i KINDLY asked if someone else can help, i was essentially told to f-off bc the other 10 people couldn't help. Good pastries, but seriously.

Yelp
We recently visited The Baker Next Door in Redwood City after a coworker recommended it, and I'm so glad we did! My wife and I stopped by on a Friday morning before work, and the experience was fantastic. The space is clean, open, and welcoming, with the wonderful aroma of freshly baked goods greeting you as you walk in. The open kitchen setup is a nice touch--you can see the team working hard to create delicious treats for the day. My wife ordered the waffle and a matcha latte, which she found flavorful and refreshing. I went for the chocolate croissant, the morning bun, and a vanilla oat latte. The latte was perfect, and the croissant was wonderfully flaky with rich, decadent chocolate inside. The morning bun, while great as is, would have been even better warmed up. Overall, we were very happy with everything we tried. That said, it did seem like two of the baristas making the coffee didn't want to be there, which could detract from the otherwise excellent experience. A little more enthusiasm would elevate what this place already has going for it. We'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu--especially the baguette, which I've heard is amazing. Great job to the team at The Baker Next Door!

Yelp
Discovered this Bakery close to work and I'm HOOKED! I've gone twice now and it never disappoints, even the drinks are good. I'm so happy a decent bakery/cafe has opened up locally. The open kitchen concept is so fun to watch too you see the baker himself creating and thinking and putting all his work into each piece. Love it!

Yelp
Amazing new bakery in RWC! I stumbled upon this place after a workout at nearby studio. I tried the avocado toast with pickled onions, radish and micro greens on toasted seeded levain. The pickled onions added a sweet kick to it! The pastries looked fresh out of the oven. The staff members were friendly and the service was quick! I saw the cook preparing my order with fresh ingredients. The cafe is quiet and clean. It's perfect for anyone looking for a place to study or work. I will definitely come back!

Yelp
This was a solid spot within walking distance of the hospital. Nice lil cup of coffee & pastry to start my day. Ordering is a bit confusing regarding the line but not a big deal.

Yelp
i've been here twice now and this is one of my favorite local bakery/cafes now! this is a cute, spacious store specializing in baked goods, savory lunch/breakfast items, and coffee. the inside is clean, modern, and equipped with plenty of seating. the location is great as well, parking can be a little hard. the pricing is great, also considering that they are a no tip establishment - i assume that means that they pay a livable wage without tips (i hope ), taking the burden off of the customer! the workers are very helpful and kind as well. the space is really great for chatting over lunch or getting work done, although they don't have chargers or wifi so i assume it's not really intended to be a work spot! you can make it work if necessary, but be prepared if necessary :) i've tried their chocolate chip pecan cookie, pain suisse, focaccia, and turkey sandwich - all amazing! the chocolate chip cookie is a medium sized cookie that's firm on the outside and softer on the inside. very classic and hits the spot! the pain suisse was unbelievable - perfectly buttery, layers and layers of crispy laminated dough, rich high quality chocolate and almond paste (i think) inside. HIGHLY recommend this pastry!! the focaccia is great but it's fairly easy to make, so i wouldn't get it again tbh, i've heard their focaccia sandwich is great though! the turkey sandwich was delicious and simple. ciabatta layered with pesto, mozzarella, and turkey - you really can't go wrong. i only wish there was an acidic element, like some roasted red pepper or sun dried tomato, but besides that i have no notes.
