Best Filipino Restaurants in Houston | Eater Houston

"With a location off Houston’s Main Street not far from Filipino fried chicken joint Jollibee, and another adjacent to the Seafood City complex in Sugar Land, Baker’s Son is a dessert haven for anyone with a sweet tooth. Diners will also find plenty of ube treats, including purple-hued ube cheese rolls and ube coffee cake topped with cream cheese. Be sure to try the custard egg pie, a sweet Filipino dessert reminiscent of egg custard, or the puto flan, a rice cake muffin that combines leche flan and puto into one delightful dessert." - Marcy de Luna

3 Houston Restaurants to Try This Weekend: May 1 | Eater Houston

"A Filipino bakery known for an extensive lineup of ube-forward pastries and breads, with shelves often lined in deep purple treats. Offerings include pan de ube, ube cheese rolls, ube doughnuts, ube pandesal, milky ube cheese bread, ube pastillas, and more, demonstrating creative uses of the sweet purple yam across both traditional and hybrid pastries. A standout is the ube coffee cake—moist throughout and topped with cream cheese frosting—which pairs perfectly with barako coffee sourced from the Philippines; the Sugar Land location is attached to a large Filipino grocery, making it a convenient one-stop for Filipino ingredients and pastries." - Brittany Britto Garley

The 12 Best Restaurants In The Medical Center - Houston - The Infatuation

"Filipino bakery The Baker’s Son originated in Jacksonville, FL and the first Houston location is right here in the Medical Center. Fresh baked goods are mostly sold in multiples here, but there are some individual treats for sale at the counter. After shopping around and filling your basket with pandesal, ensaymadas topped with parmesan cheese, and ube-flavored everything, grab a passion fruit calamansi for a citrusy refreshment loaded with fresh fruit and herbs. The Baker’s Son is open daily until 8pm, and it’s perfect for healthcare workers (or anyone, really) in the mood for a sweet treat at any time of day. There aren’t any seats in this action-packed bakery, but biting into a pan de dulce filled with ube always tastes delicious from the driver’s seat." - gianni greene, chelsea thomas

Where to Find the Best Tres Leches Cake in Houston | Eater Houston

"A growing number of Filipino bakeries have introduced ube-filled and sweet-savory combo treats to cities across the United States. At this Houston bakery, sweets ranging from pandan drinks to flaky ube hopia are an education in the many variations of Filipino baked goods culture. Taking inspiration from its Mexican and Spanish influences, its three tres leches offerings include mango, Biscoff, or the ube Oreo — all with traditional tres leches cake base and a distinct infusion of Filipino techniques and flavors." - Lane Gillespie

Google
Hands down my go to bakery for Filipino goodies!!!! They have a bunch of options from traditional Filipino desserts to fusion desserts with popular ingredients like Oreo + biscoff!!! If you have ever wanted to try Ube this is the perfect spot for you!!! Their Ube pandesal is sooo soft and it’s not overly sweet!!! I also love their Ube and cream cheese crumble’s! What I love about this bakery is that they have every pastry labeled with the name of the dessert, a description, and pricing!!! This is very convenient in case you aren’t familiar with their pastries as well as avoiding any “surprises” at the register. The employees are very welcoming and greet everyone that walks in. Everything is soooo tempting and you’ll always come back for more.

This was a complete hidden gem in the Houston community!! I told my friend I loved ube and he delivered! They had so many amazing treats at great prices. My favorites were the ube roll cake and the ube cream bread.

Google
The best Asian baked goods - and best prices. Beautiful and clean. My fave is the ube coffee cake and torun. Great location around other Filipino based eateries.

Stopped by here for some Filipino bakery items while visiting Houston. It was later in the afternoon, but there was still a good selection of fresh bakery items available. There's a good selection from breads, sweets, desserts in both individual and larger sizes. There's also the option of freshly made drinks and desserts such as Halo Halo, Buko Pandan, Calamansi Juice, Lattes, Shakes, etc... There's a small sitting area for you to enjoy your food and drinks in the store. Good place to come for Filipino breads and sweets.

Google
I will fly out to Houston from Maryland just for this bakery. Everything was DELICIOUS! Lots of ube options (I tried the ube shake, ube cookie, ube and Oreo treat, and ube coffee cake). I am highly satisfied overall!

Google
This authentic Filipino bakery brings me back to the Philippines. I’m so glad there’s this legit bakery in Houston. Waiting for them to open in Dallas! The 4-hr drive was worth it! Not all the options were great as there is some improvement needed but the variety is amazing and overwhelming. Clean bakery and the staff were super friendly and helpful. On a Sunday morning at 9 am, a lot of the goods were fresh and some items were not ready yet. A lot were still warm but already packaged so there was some moisture in the plastic packaging (needs to be cooled down longer before packing). I like that there are options to try individual items rather than only large packs. I bought a lot of items to try and many more I need to come back for! The buko pie and chicken empanada were good! The plain ensaymada, milky cheese bread, and pan de ube were soft only when eaten fresh or heated up so make sure to eat it warm! These can also be frozen! I made the mistake of getting the plain ensaymada which was just sugar and butter on top! I missed the queso de bola ensaymada which is the one I wanted! The milky cheese bread didn’t really taste cheesy. The bibinka was soft and flavor was good. Wish there was cheese and butter sugar on top with the salted egg then it would be amazing! The egg pie was abit too sweet but the crust was good. The cheesy rolls were almost like Porto’s but it’s not the same. It had the right delicious cheesy flavor but the crust was doughy and totally different. It’s not crispy even after toasting it. The siopao asado was ok. The filling was nice without too much fat but not enough inside, imo. The bola bola was just ok. Tasted like siomai? There was no egg in it which was disappointing. I thought the sauce it came with was unnecessary. The dough was nice and fluffy after resteaming. I was disappointed with the turon as the plantain inside was really small and nothing special about it. There was a lot of wrapper. Overall it’s a great option for legit Filipino baked goods and I need to come back for the halo-halo, the queso de bola ensaymada, ube pandesal, kutsinta, and pastillas! Can’t wait until then!

Robert R.

Google
Rolls are good but I could do with out eating plastic bristles from a cleaning brush. 3 out of the first 5 rolled had bristles baked in. Cashier acted like it was common and didn’t really give a shit about making it right. This will be my 3rd box trying to eat a clean ensaymada

Yelp
I have to put myself on a budget before I walk into this bakery. I'm so tempted to buy everything! Their shop is well lit with bakery shelves are lined with colorful Philippino desserts and food. If you have questions, ask the staff because they're all very friendly and helpful. I dropped in on Sunday and was delighted to find hot food such as pork asado siopao, palabok, arroz caldo, and so much more. The siopao was so soft and fluffy, felt like pillows and tasted delicious. I should've bought more, great for breakfast and snacking. This was my first time trying palabok and I loved it with the squeeze of lime. The arroz caldo was thicker than I'm used to so I had to add a little bit of water to thin out the soup. Otherwise, it tastes great as well. I loaded up on desserts such as the fried turon, Suman Cassava Ube, and Suman Malagkit. All were great snacking but my favorite is the halo halo - must try. I've tried their choco Milo coffee drink (hot) and find it to be overly sweet, even when asked for less sweet. There is plenty of parking spaces, easy to stop by to grab and go. There are a few seats available to dine-in. Prices are very reasonable.

Yelp
My family and I only stopped in to grab to go items bc we were in a rush. NO ONE TOLD ME ... they had this DUBAI Chocolate Croissant and it was the BEST THING EVER! I wish I didn't live 45 min away bc it was the BEST THING EVER. We love their pandasals, cheese ensemayda, babinka with egg.... These are our staples. I'm so glad to have tried that pistachio chocolate croissant! You are welcome, let me know how you liked it if you try it!
google avatar

Virna L.

Yelp
Review on the "Dubai Croissant" is refreshing but on the heavy side. The chocolate was well distributed, the pistachio were just not crunchy, solely because I waited a few hours before I ate them and got the pre-packed as opposed to the ones they have displayed on their glass counters. So, having them later may change the consistency of the pistachios. The filling was really heavy so, having half is sufficient for me and may be for others. Four and a half stars for the Dubai croissant. Will try the other flavors for next time.

Yelp
Always great coming here! We love the ube milkshake, halo-halo and all the baked goods I can't make myself like everything on their shelves! Try everything here!

Yelp
This bakery is right next to jollibee and the two were destined to be neighbors. The baker's son is amazing. They have so many yummy treats. I got the buko pandan drink, Dubai chocolate croissant, and ube pistachio croissant. I enjoyed every bit of what I got. I wished I lived closer so I could come here at least once a week!

Yelp
Came here for the pandesal, but stayed for the incredible variety of Filipino desserts! I grew up loving freshly baked pandesal that my aunt would buy me from the local neighborhood bakery in Manila. When I was back in the States, it was impossible for me to find pandesal even half as good as what I was used to until I had some from Valerio's bakeshop in LA. They don't have any Houston locations, so when I moved back here I felt sad knowing I wouldn't have regular access to freshly baked pandesal anymore. Then I was so excited to hear that the Valerio family was opening this new bakery, with a location here in Houston! I was initially bummed to find that they don't serve freshly baked pandesal the way I'd come to expect from Valerio's (they are baked to sell packaged, not fresh at the counter), but instead, I was amazed by the sheer variety of baked goods they offered, both traditional and modern. Most of their goods are pre-packaged except for the center display and the front counter, where it looks like they sell more freshly made items. I especially enjoyed browsing the center display which was filled with croissants, cookies, and ensaymadas, ranging in flavors from traditional plain to adventurous/trending flavors like ube-pistachio. It's a bit of a contrast compared to Valerio's, which to my memory sold mostly traditional Filipino baked goods. The interior is very spacious. There are a few seating areas off to the side but it's not really designed to sit and stay awhile. Parking lot is large and shares space with other Filipino/Fil-Am businesses like Jollibee and Max's Restaurant. Everything I've tried here so far has been super delicious with beautiful textures, even after taking them home and eating them a few days old. I highly recommend the pistachio-ube croissant, Biscoff ensaymada, and Korean cream cheese garlic bread. They also have a large cafe drinks menu which I didn't have the gastrointestinal real estate to try at the time, but really hope I can soon! Ambiance: 5/5 Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5

Yelp
I love this place so much. I had visited their smaller location inside Seafood City first and had a really good experience. So when I was in the area I wanted to check out this location. I was not expecting for there to be such a big selection of stuff. We bought so many things because it was impossible to choose. Everything sounded good and everything was good as expected. Their drinks are also good. Super friendly staff. It was really busy when we came but they got our drink order out pretty quickly. I wish this place was closer to me because I'd come here all the time if I could!
google avatar

Flola T.

Yelp
Love this bakery! All the bread was pillowy soft and flavorful. I go to a lot of Asian bakeries that often use similar flavor profiles, such as ube and coconut, but I'd definitely go here for the flavors they specialize in. It was also super clean and the ube latte was great
google avatar

Robert Z.

Yelp
I'm glad that there's an Asian bakery close-ish to me and seems I lucked out with having this Filipino bakery. Its a mostly, pick and choose your own bread/baked goods type place but they also have some drinks and desserts you can order up front. I've tried a few of their drinks as well (buko pandan, various calamansi drinks) and they're good but quite a bit sweet for my personal tastes. Flavor-wise they're great. The baked goods have all been a hit for me, with all the various ube flavored treats as well as just regular pan de sal, I love to just get some nice, fluffy buns. The ube pistachio croissant was also a nice surprise. Prices are fair for everything.

Yelp
After a few visits, I have tried about everything available, and I am a big fan! The items sold are appeasing to the eye and receives the highest bakery compliment possible from an Asian: not too sweet. The packaging of the items are intricate, and the service is extraordinary! The bakery appears to be family run, and the ambience shows; I definitely feel taken care of from the moment I step in, just like when you enter a relative's house. Although I'm not Filipino, I appreciate the treat selection and all the ube options as many of the treat concepts are similar across Asian countries. As a baker myself, I also know that some of the treats look easy, but can be hard to reach the perfection that has been met by Baker's Son. I surely will be returning to here again and again. Pro tip: if you are new to the bakery, I suggest purchasing one of the dessert sampler boxes.

Yelp
The Baker's Son is my favorite spot to go for filipino desserts! Everything is soo fresh and delicious and they have a great variety of filipino desserts. Inside is clean, spacious and there's plenty of parking. - calamansi juice: 10/10 Omg this drink was SO SO good and SUPER refreshing! It has a distinct sugary citrus scent and just the right amount of sweetness! Literally the perfect drink on any hot days. - hot dog bread.. ( we forgot the right name of this) : 8/10 Good savory pastry, however it was kind of greasy. - halo halo: 9/10 Really good and not too sweet! I loved that they added a leche flan which added to the overall richness and creaminess of the halo halo I'd definitely come back and bring my family and friends here to try Filipino desserts! Dessert

Yelp
First time at this bakery and looked forward to trying out some of Filipinos bakery items. The store was clean and abundance of options to choose from. The staff was friendly. We ordered few things to try and also the halo halo dessert. Overall everything was good.
google avatar

Yelp
A very well run Filipino bakery with so much to choose from if you never experience a Filipino bakery, if you come here on a weekend it will be packed and hard to just look around because it's very crowded. But everything I tried there are very good. You can't no go wrong with anything at the bakery. It can get pretty noisy on the weekend. Some of the must try are Biko (Classic), Puto Fiesta, Classic and Pandan Palitaw Duo.

Yelp
Stopped by on a Saturday morning and WOW. I'm not familiar with Filipino bakery goodies and now I'm a fan. The space was huge and clean. Service was super friendly. Ok now the food! Ube is a purple yam and is used in many of the offerings. It makes everything a beautiful violet color. And it tastes amazing. Sweet but not overly so. Kind of like an orange yam vibe. I got pistachio ube croissant. Huge and delicious. Pared with mocha latte. My date got a Dubai Chocolate "Knafeh" Croissant. Giant, super rich, filled with crunchy pistachio filling. I'm totally getting that next time! He also got the Ube latte- once PSL season is over, I'm converting to Ube lattes.
google avatar

Ly N.

Yelp
They have updated their pastries and now have a case with a fan! I really appreciate this case of new goodies as their offerings prior were a bit too much in quantity for me to finish alone. I definitely recommend the dubai chocolate croissant and the ube brioche!
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
My partner and I really enjoy visits to the Baker's Son. They have so many Filipino baked goods that are fresh made from scratch. On our most recent trip, we both were in awe of the mango coffee cake and just had to take it home. The mango was subtle but the cake was very tender and done well. We've also had some of their ube rolls in the past, which are equally delicious and satisfyingly sweet. There are even more savory, protein based options. As you can see from the photos, there is really something for everyone. Their drinks are refreshing and seem to be made with fresh fruit juice (they are a bit sweeter than standard boba) with my favorite being the passionfruit calamanasi. I've yet to try their coffee or lattes, but I'm eager to in the future. Each visit has been a delight with friendly service, a clean and organized series of displays, and a cute seating area.

Yelp
Updating my review - I came back for the baked goods. Focusing on just that, it's a solid 5/5.

Yelp
the almond croissant was delicious. the passion fruit drink was too sweet. the ube cookie was great. mango slice cake not as good.

Yelp
I was so excited to finally check out this bakery! It's located within a complex with other Asian eateries & grocery store that has a good size parking lot. The bakery is very big and looked immensely stocked with so many goodies that I didn't even know where to start! The staff immediately greeted me upon entering which I always appreciate as a first time customer. The overhead music was upbeat and I enjoyed it while perusing the many, many options of baked snacks. This place was like ube heaven! There is also a refrigerated area for cold treats & a good selection of drinks! They also had a very cute small sitting area. There were small samples at check out too. I ended up getting the ube white chocolate chip cookie for my son, ube cheese tart & beef empanadas for me. My son couldn't even wait to take a bite as we walked back to our car & greatly enjoyed it. I really liked the ube cheese tart which came in a pack of 3. The beef empanada had a little more sweetness flavor to me than I'm used to but I'm excited to return and try many more things as well as a drink next time!

Yelp
Despite opening in late 2022, the hype for The Baker's Son by Valerio's has remained constant with budding Houston Filipino community. In terms of quality, selection, and price (#1) no other place comes close. It is by far the most extensive Filipino bakery in the city. With a super successful location in Jacksonville, FL, this location caught the eyes of owners Jun and Kathleen, as a central hub for what is now known as Lil Manila square. This is a genius move and I hope the area continues to expand. The list of items they serve is so substantial that I can't begin to break down their selection. There are freshly baked goods on display, along with ones that sit on the shelves and refrigerator, and a separate drink area as well. Ube lovers will appreciate the immense variety as there is a lot of purple in so many of the pastries and drinks. Equally impressive is the bustling Filipino staff in the back, non-stop baking and churning out freshly made goods. Among the many things I've enjoyed: hopia, siopao, empanadas, sapin sapin, ube pan de sal, turon, ube oreo tres leches, ube loafs, pandan macapuno tarts, bibingka w/salted egg, crinkles, piayas, and pork sisig buns. Their halo halo and ube shakes are decent, but I really like the buko pandan. A really nice one is the iced ube matcha latte, a rare find in these parts. Parking isn't exactly vast, but the constant in and out traffic means a spot will eventually open up. The fact there is no seating available means it's strictly a takeout spot. The lines on the weekend can be intense at times, but it always moves quickly. Whether it's for a casual pick-me-up drink, a snack while waiting in traffic on Main, or a potluck contribution, I'll always find a reason to come back. __________ (#1) Not saying they're low or anything.
google avatar

Samettria B.

Yelp
This food is amazing. The ubie OMG. When I say perfect I mean PERFECT. Not too sweet but just right. I was pleasantly surprised. The staff is really nice and service is great. It's very clean and sanatized in there. They had these honey cheese pepperoni mini pizzas. My goodness it was a another great surprise. It's something about the bread that can cause you to eat a million of them. This is all coming from a person who is not a bread or pastry eater like that. Therefore if you love bread you would be in heaven bc I was definitely in heaven. I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Sofia C.

Yelp
-food poisoning- I stop by from time to time after work, yesterday I bought two of the ham croissants 30min after eating them I threw up and spent the rest of the afternoon and all night in the toilet with awful intestinal cramps and explosive no.2. Today as I'm writing this my stomach is still upset.
google avatar

Yelp
Great staff and tasty, authentic Filipino baked goods+sweets :) A must-visit spot if you love ube!!
google avatar

Lily N.

Yelp
Omg if you love ube, you haveee to go here. I always see this place when I go to Jollibee and finally gave it a chance. As soon as you walk in, you're met with a delicious aroma of fresh bread and fillings. Decor is more bare bones, with shelves filled with bread and fridges with cold desserts. I have never seen desserts or baked goods like this, so I was a little overwhelmed, but everything was so good! They were giving away samples of the ube cheese melt in the front, which was DEFINITELY my favorite. MUST GET!! The ube cheese roll was also very good, both are not too sweet, creamy, fluffy, and such a satisfying bite. I do not really like their savory items as much like their Korean garlic cheese bomb and pork adobo. I did not try their drinks bc I got so many breads haha, but their halo halo looks so good. The only thing I would recommend is that they have pictures and descriptions of the items below each tray like they do at 85C. Otherwise, the cashier was helpful with recommendations. With their unique offerings, this will def be part of my bakery rotation with 85C and Six Ping. Highly recommend for their ube desserts!!!

Yelp
I've had a countless number of tasty Filipino pastries from Valerio's, but it has taken me way too long to actually visit the store in person till now. Walking in, you're hit with that freshly baked bread smell. Heaven. Baker's Son is probably the best Filipino bakery in Houston, and for good reason. Their selection of Filipino treats is unmatched. Ube has started to become "mainstream" now, but ube anything is so nostalgic to me from growing up as a kid. My favorite thing being their ube cheese rolls. Warm them up for like 15 seconds and the gooey ube filling is my favorite bite. Even if you're not Filipino, you need to check this bakery out. They have refreshing calamansi juice, hopia baboy, ube oreo shakes, fresh pandesal, and so much more. 10/10 would recommend, try everything!
google avatar

Andrea P.

Yelp
I've never had filipino dessert, but it was a lot like mexican desserts. It was Ube overload, but I like Ube. The one dessert I really liked was their Mango Cream bun.

Becca J.

Yelp
I've been to Valerio's in the Bay Area and San Diego multiple times and was super excited to have one in Texas. Really great selection of all my favorite Filipino savory and sweets. Pan de ube is a staple. Everything is well priced. I'm based in DFW and wish we had a location in North Texas, but until then I just stock up whenever I'm in Houston.

Yelp
Sooooooo much to choose from! Definitely will need to have some time to check everything out. StFf were friendly and food was fresh!

Yelp
Thanks to my Yelper friend Clynton M's review that drew my attention to The Baker's Son by Valerio's. I absolutely love everything about this bakery. It's located at the newly-built storefront of Pinoy Corner in the Medical Center area. I came here one day after my doctor's appointment. There weren't many people at the restaurant. So, I took my time to browse everything. I could smell the ube baking aroma from the moment I opened the door. I spent about $45 on all kinds of goodies. I love the sampling trays. I got to taste a variety of Kakanin (sticky rice snacks) without buying several boxes. Another thing I love about how it operates is there are 2 different sizes of packaging, big and small. So, I don't waste anything. I only want few pieces of pastries. The small box would do just fine. p.s. I uploaded 40 photos to go with my review. You need to use a computer see them all https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/the-bakers-son-by-valerios-houston?userid=jwPVqdHpVHCBfAe4pZBbgA

Yelp
We tried the pork siopao ($4), corned beef and beef asado($4), hopya monggo (yellow bean), hopya ube (purple yam, 4 for $5.25), pandan tart (3 for $6), ube coffee cake (8 slices for $9), ube Oreo tiramisu slice ($5). There is so much selection! I was able to try so much because we went twice! The pork siopao had a flavorful, tender filling. The bun is more wheat colored and less sweet than your typical chinese sweet bread. The Monggo were fun to eat! Similar to desserts we eat on Chinese new year, where there are thin flaky crusts surrounding a bean paste filling. The pandan tart did not have that much pandan flavor, would not get it again. The ube coffee cake was so delicious! One of my favorite. You could taste the ube. It was very moist. The butter crumb was a nice touch. The ube oreo tiramisu was fun to try! On the sweeter side. It seems like a family owned business. It is in a plaza with other Filipino restaurants and supermarkets. Very clean inside!

Yelp
The baked goods are always fresh and delicious. The service crew are very friendly and helpful as well. Everything that is tried is delicious. I tried their Dubai chocolate croissant and its delicious. The garlic ham and cheese croissant is always my go to here.

Yelp
My family wanted a quick lunch on our way to my apartment and wanted to get some jollibee at this little Filipino plaza by the med center. However, they told us that we had to wait 30 mins for some new chicken and we did not want to wait that long. We decided to get some things to go at this bakery across the plaza instead. I got a buko pandan drink, it was pretty decent. A lot of pandan jellies and some crunch as well. However, the straw is not big enough for some of the jellies in there. They would get stuck or not even fit in the straw and I had to get a spoon to finish the rest. We also got various pastries. I only tried the ube cheese roll but it was way too sweet for me. We got a variety of beef and chicken empanadas, sisig and pork adobo buns, and a hotdog bun. The hotdog bun was decent, the beef and chicken empanada was a little bland but did have some flavor. The pork siding bun was kind of like eating crunchy pork and the bun was really soft, like almost too soft. These items were probably made all in the morning and left sitting out in the open all day, hence why the dough is soft and they're not warm. We probably should have air fried them before eating them. Overall I was not satisfied with what we had at all. We also checked the receipt later and saw that we were accidentally charged $19.68 per beef empanadas, $60 for 3 beef empanadas. We were already out of town before we realized this so we will not bother trying to reverse it.

Yelp
I died and woke up in ube heaven, so many ube flavored desserts! Everything was fresh and delicious and not overly sweet, my only complaint was not having 4 more stomachs so I could try it all. The lattes are also very good. Will be back

Yelp
came here after dining at max's which is in the same plaza. the bakery is big, clean, and brightly lit. such a large selection of pastries, especially ube flavored. i got the ube cheese roll which was okay, the ube pistachio crossaint which was good, and my ultimate favorite was the ube coffee cake. it was perfectly sweet with a prominent ube flavor, super moist and a perfect crust. already planning my next visit to get more! other than that, there are lots of filipino desserts you can order at the counter, as well as beverages including coffee drinks.

Yelp
I was in town for the holidays and convinced my sister to make the drive to The Baker's Son with me to stock up on Filipino goodies that I can't find in Austin. This place did not disappoint! They have a wide selection of pastries, desserts, and drinks as well as helpful staff and plenty of parking. We originally came here for the kakanin platter, which included puto, sapin sapin, palitaw, kutsinta, and puto bumbong - a little bit of everything! Everything tasted exactly as it should. My only two complaints were the puto with flan as those should definitely be separate dishes, and the puto bumbong that was drowning in coconut flakes and didn't include enough butter. We ended up walking out with a lot more pastries from the sheer nostalgia of it all. The plain bibinka was missing the cheese chunk on top, but it was still sweet, airy, and fluffy even after refrigerating and microwaving. The siopao was a pleasantly hefty portion with nicely seasoned pork inside. The ensaymadas were sweet and filling. The hopia tasted like hopia. I'll definitely be back to satisfy my Filipino pastry and sweet tooth craving!

Yelp
This is a family owned Filipino bakery that has all the Filipino pastries your heart desires as well as drinks. Even if your not familiar with Filipino pastries, I recommend visiting to try one on a whim and maybe a cup of halo-halo. I loved it there and would visit again.

Yelp
Since their neighbor, Jollibee, stopped carrying halo halo, I had to find another spot to buy it. Luckily, the closest place to find it was only steps away! TBS' halo halo is truly delicious, but has a pretty steep cost to it coming in around $7/$8 for one. I haven't tried much of their other items here, but they all look very tasty. I did recently try their Carioca balls which tasted like coconut - those were really good! They serve them on a skewer and wrap them in foil. This establishment requires that you spend $10 or more if you plan on using a credit card, which is why I ended up trying the Carioca. I will add that this bakery is SUPER clean inside. Like amazingly clean. I am always impressed when I come in since it's always so spotless! It's nice to see that establishments actually care what their customers see!

Yelp
I've been to a couple of Asian bakeries but never a Filipino bakery. Not familiar with Fillipino cuisine either but I'm adventurous enough to try. Beef empanada - 5/5 It's more sweet than savory but juicy and decently sweet. The way they made the pastry is different than other empanadas. I enjoyed it and would get it again. Chicken empanada - 2/5 It was too sweet for me. It looked baked. I wouldn't get it again. Ube brownies - 5/5 Love the flavor, moistness, and that it isn't too sweet! It has an earthy flavor that reminded of 7 leaves Taro milk tea.

Yelp
The first Filipino bakery we've ever been to, we were excited to try everything! We picked up various bread and of course, their famous calamansi juice and halo halo. Most of the bread we chose had ube in it, which we love. The ube cheese bread was very good. Powdered ube on top with a creamy cheese filling. Loved their halo halo. Ube ice cream with red bean, jelly, little ice bits, coconut milk, cereal flakes, etc. It was sp refreshing on a super hot and humid day. The calamansi juice was also very refreshing. It was a bit too sweet at first but once the ice melted a bit, it was just perfect! Overall, great bakery with lots of options to choose from. This is a must if you are in Houston!

Yelp
The Baker's Son by Valerios in Houston is truly a hidden gem for authentic Filipino pastries and desserts. Offering an array of traditional delights at affordable prices, it's quickly rising to be one of my top Asian bakeries in Houston! if you're an ube lover like me, you will equally adore this place. Their modern, clean setting and friendly, efficient staff creates a welcoming atmosphere. The goodies are organized in shelves and you can pick up a basket and personally select which bread or dessert you want to bring home and then bring it to the cashier to check out. Unfortunately there is no seating or tables inside, it's more of a grab and go bakery. My faves I've tried here include the ube cheese tart and the ube pandesals. The ube coffee cake was also good but too sweet for me. It also looks like they make fresh pastries everyday. There's also plenty of parking in the huge plaza!

Yelp
I had previously tried out Valerio's bakery back in Hawaii and heard about The Baker's Son opening. I have wanted to try this spot out for some time. Since we were already checking out Jollibees, we figured we'd check out The Baker's Son prior to getting our fried chicken fix. There were so many items to try out here and we ordered A LOT of food. Lol. To be fair, we did eat all of this food over several days. The theme we got from most of the items here was that they were sweet. So, here's a breakdown of all of them: Beef and chicken empanadas: sweet. But, the filling for the beef was meaty. Pork sisig bun: sweet. Pork flavor was ok. But, the flavor that stood out right off the bat was orange peel. I didn't care for this. But, other people may like it. Pork asado siopao: the filling was sweet. But, the steamed bun was great. Awesome textures. So fluffy. Plain Ensaymadas: my lil bro and mom loved this so much. They said it tasted like a fluffy cloud with a little bit of cream cheese icing and sugar on the outside. They'd get this again. Nutella Twist: it didn't have much Nutella inside, and the bread was kind of dry Regular pandesal: it tasted like Hawaiian bread, but drier. Turon: it was ok. I've had turon before with ripe banana and caramel on the outside from Godo's and that was delicious. But, the turon here contained plantains and jackfruit. I'm not a fan of either fruit, tbh. But, if you love these fruits, try it out for yourself to see if you like this version of turon. Overall, my fam and I would give this bakery a 3.5. There were other items we haven't tried yet, like their mocha rolls, pineapple and coconut pastries, and their leche flan shake. If you're a fan of ube, they've got a ton of ube desserts. Come and check them out if you want to try out Filipino baked goods.

Yelp
OMG this bakery is my new favorite!! It is literally ube heaven!! I came here after my friend recommended it, and it is literally sooooo delicious!! We have gotten the ube coffee cake, which is my favorite because of the strong ube flavor and light sweetness. The ube oreo bons is delicious with a good blend of ube and oreo but is a little sweet for me. The ube cheese bread is also delicious and my friend's favorite but a little too cheesy/creamy for me. My favorite salty items includes the chicken pandesal and the beef empanada!! The empanadas are perfectly crispy and have delicious beef inside. They also have a chicken one that is tasty as well. I also tried the buko pandan drink, which was DELICIOUS. I've never had a pandan drink before, so this was a delicious new experience. I liked that it wasn't too sweet and it had perfect textures inside. 10/10 drink! Overall, I love this bakery and will continue to keep coming back. It is definitely a plus that its near the med district and next to a Jolibee!! Definitely recommend :-)

Yelp
A Filipino bakery!!!! I'm coming from San Antonio and it's so exciting to see a Valerio's Bakery. We picked up all of the goodies we love from Senorita Bread (Spanish Rolls), Pandesal, Ube Everything, etc. This is a must visit when you're in Houston. It is slightly different from the original Valerio's Bakery but they offer all the things we love to get. They also offer drinks from Halo Halo, shakes and etc. There are items in the refrigerator like siapao and imputido.

Yelp
We came here on Mother's Day and as soon as I walked in I knew this place was going to be good. The place was bustling with people and they had so many variations of breads! Max Carb galore. To be honest, my husband and I wanted to buy the entire store. But after exercising our best self control, we ended up with the pork adobo pandesal, chicken empanada, baked chicken siopao, cheese pastry, hot dog pizza bun, and the ube and brown sugar muscavado. Everything was delicious! The bread was super soft and fluffy and there was a good amount of meat filling in the pandesal and the siopao. The cheese puff pastry took me by surprise as it was sweet, but nevertheless also super yummy. In addition to the flaky puff pastry, the was a crunchy layer of caramelized sugar at the bottom. It really is hard to stop eating. My favorite was probably the pork adobo pandesal, as it was slightly more savory than the siopao, but I also enjoyed the chicke siopao and the ube muscavado very much as well. Again, we had to exercise extreme self restraint not to devour all the breads in one sitting. My four year old kept saying "this restaurant is so yummy!" as he quickly stuffed all the goodies in his mouth. My husband is already wanting to go back, and so am I as there are so many other items in the store that we didn't get to try! FYI Parking is a bit difficult during peak hours as the lot is small and there are many restaurants. I didn't get to ask the workers if they change around their menu sometimes, but given how much variety offer, it's going to take me a few more trips to try everything. If you love sweet fluffy breads, be sure to come check out the Baker's Son! You won't be disappointed!

Yelp
I came here with my friends this weekend and bought many bread and drinks! Whenever I'm back in Houston, I must shop at this shopping center for Filipino food. My mom wanted spaghetti at Jollibbe and then a lot of variety of bread/pastries from this bakery, so I did just that. One of my friends, it was her second time here, and she bought halo-halo again (she loved it the first time she was here), and her younger sister ordered the leche flan drink. I, on the other hand, ordered buko pandan drink.

Yelp
The bakery itself is nice and clean and small but not cramped! The staff is kind and I love that you can see them baking goods! Almost everything we got was a hit, I think the ones we didn't enjoy were more traditional Filipino treats that we weren't used to. All three tres leches we had were amazing (mango, biscoff, and ube Oreo). My favorite items were the ube piaya and ube hopia, both had a flaky pastry element. The bread itself is like a pillowy dinner roll and the milky cheese bread is the perfect salty sweet combo. I also ordered the buke pandan drink and I've never had anything close to that flavor (in a good way). I will definitely return to this place for more goodies!
