Tony had a meal with Chef James Syhabuot and his friends/family. They had aw lahm, which is made with wood ear mushrooms, dill, pepper wood (a key ingredient infused into the dish, which imparts flavors of star anise and white pepper), two types of lahm made with buffalo (one raw, one cooked), and leuat paeng, a dish made from raw buffalo blood and herbs.

We had such a fantastic day at the bamboo experience. We learned so much from the friendly team. We enjoyed learning about the history and importance of bamboo in Laos culture. We had lots of fun and giggles with the staff trying out dancing and playing the bamboo instruments. The cooking class was also fantastic. We cooked a delicious lunch, including stuffed bamboo, steamed fish, sticky rice and papaya salad. Everything was really fresh and we had plenty of food. We also enjoyed the demonstration from the master bamboo weaver and getting to make our own bamboo gift. A really excellent day out. Highly recommended. Thank you so much to the team at the Bamboo Experience.

My partner and I had such a fantastic time on this tour. They picked us up from our hotel in an air conditioned vehicle. When we arrived, we were offered a welcome drink. A lovely Laotian man gave us a lovely tall about the uses of bamboo, demonstrating them and allowing us to test some of them out. Following on from that, we got taught how to weave bamboo. One of the last parts of the experience was the cooking class. Each dish involved bamboo in some way. It was lots of fun and the food tasted delicious! Everything was so fresh. Lastly, we learnt a game that was traditionally played at parties and events. Overall, we were extremely lucky on this tour as no one else had booked it so we had a private tour! This tour is one of the most memorable moments of my holiday!

100% recommend. The whole experience is just amazing, they pick you up from the hotel, they explain everything about bamboo and how important it is in the lives of the people of Laos. You get to try so many different things, see amazing things made from bamboo and learn so much. You get to make something out of bamboo by yourself and cook some delicious meals in an outdoor kitchen and then of course eat it with some other tasty dishes. In the end, you get to see a performance of bamboo musical instrument and even try it. My boyfriend and I got this as a private tour and really enjoyed it. Recommend to everyone who comes to Luang Prabang.

We had booked this experience from Singapore before taking off to Luang Prabang. Often, these pre-booked experiences fail to meet expectations - not so in with The Bamboo Experience. This is one of the best outings I have been to ... regardless of destination. It was relaxing and entertaining with great service, yet educational. From the trip to the morning market, learning about bamboo - from food to housebuilding - via practical weaving of bamboo to the cooking class, it was always engaging. A bonus was the lunch (where we participated in the preparation). It was the best meal - not only on this trip to Lao but overall - I have had in a long time. The staff was very serviceminden and knowledgeable. Kudos to the family business. Highly recommende as something to do when in Loang Prabang!

This was one of the best experiences I’ve had in Laos. Everyone was friendly, engaging and the appreciation for bamboo and its many uses was evident in our half day session. You will be picked up from your hotel by tuktuk and transported to the family home where there are many activities planned. The half day session went by so quickly because there was so much to do. I left with a happy heart and full stomach.

I had an amazing day learning about how bamboo is used in Laos, weaving with a bamboo master and cooking a traditional and delicious variety of dishes to share with everyone in the group. Would really recommend pairing it with the Kuangsi falls tour which they offered online. This was such a wonderful day!

Best Loa experience so far! We were picked up from our hostel and transported to The Bamboo Experience, just outside Luang Prabang. All of the team were polite and friendly and passionate about what they do and all things bamboo. We were taught about the importance of bamboo to the Loation people, the different species, and their uses. Afterwards, we had a bamboo weaving workshop, followed by a cooking class where we made several dishes with bamboo being the core ingredient. After eating our lunch on the balcony overlooking the rice fields, we enjoyed music and dancing using, you guessed it, bamboo instruments! Informative, enjoyable, delicious, and great value for money. Would highly recommend The Bamboo Experience.

I think you need to be very aware that this is not really a cooking class. To be fair to the location and experience name, it does imply some heavy emphasis on bamboo, but it also came up on Google as a lead cookery class. It is not interactive enough for children (ours are 5 and 7). We spent 90 mins receiving quite a dry lecture on uses of bamboo from a lovely Laos man who was so keen to share and impress but could not really see it had gone on for a very long time. The master weaver and activities with him were good although not enough time was spent on these. Similarly, the cooking just seemed like a rushed afterthought. We didn't cook all the food we ate, veggie options just meant more bamboo with our bamboo, and everything was preprepared or done for us, right down to the cracking of an egg. My kids were excited to cook and all they really got to do was chop a shallot and slice some bamboo. Beautiful location, lovely staff, and similar price to other activities in the area, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to others visiting.
